I started the adventure alone, hunting humans and building my castle in silence... but it was when I played with others that the game truly came to life. PvE becomes much more dynamic, and bosses that were already fun turn into real events when you face them as a group. I really enjoyed the balance between action, progression, and base-building. Exploring, gathering, upgrading gear, and expanding your vampire fortress has that addictive rhythm that keeps you coming back. And doing it with others takes it further: dividing roles, helping each other, and progressing as a clan gives every session more weight. Solo? It’s good. With friends? It’s on a whole other level. Besides, it’s always more fun to sink your teeth in together.

What a breath of fresh air. Every single boss fight is completely unique. This was suggested to me by a friend and since then I have roped in a few more friend to join in the fun. We are enjoying every min of it.

Played this in early access a few years ago and had a great time, but there were a few issues. Playing through it again I noticed that many problems I had were fixed and several quality of life features were added to make it even more enjoyable. I'm just over half way done with the bosses now, and can say for certain that this game was worth my time and money. If you like RPG's, souls-likes, survival games, and vampires (or even just one of those) you will have a lot of fun. Note: I'm a solo PVE player, so I can't speak on COOP or PvP.

This game is one of the most well designed games I've ever played. It's well worth your time and money, even alone, even if you're someone who doesn't enjoy isometric games or survival crafters at all. The combat is best in class. Base building is meaningful to progression and has interesting twists. The atmosphere/exploration/environmental story telling are awesome. Progression feels much more dynamic than just "mine X to make new tool to mine X+1" like so so many other mediocre titles. This game is worth more than its full price. I'd recommend it to anyone. 10/10

So I left this game alone for a couple of days since I have a job and a life and such and when I came back, everything I've built was gone. On a PvE Server. Not sure what the mindset behind this is, but I can't babysit a game and I'm not looking for a second job. *edit* apparently your stuff decays in real time even when you're not playing. just WTF! Nothing in the description points towards an online/multiplayer heavy experience, of course you realize these things past refund time.

This game is a fine bossrush with cool unique blood type thing, but it is absolutly not a open world rpg as it claims. Everything (and even character progression) is defined at level expected from linear game, and so playing it feels like sequentially filling the checklist. Zero player agency is not something expected from open world, not something expected from rpg, and not something expected from survival game.

I want to like this game and with a few tweaks I would but the combat is clunky and the respawn rate insane for pve players. Not designed for me.

Have enjoyed this quite a bit (console), but seriously, I want to know how the controller support in this ever got out the door. It's got to be one of the most convoluted, obscene schemes I've ever seen. Moving the camera should not require holding a button and moving the stick, this was established back on the PS1, 30 years ago. It's a solved problem that was broken by bad design. It's insanely clear that the developers had no real intention of people playing this game with a controller. The fact that, on the default layout (of 2), a main face button is dedicated to building is absolutely beyond me. Trying to fire abilities? Yep, that's going to be an R1+L2, but don't confuse that with R2+L1, and certainly don't accidentally hit R1+L1 unless you want to blow a massive cooldown. It's just crazy. What really got me though, was inventory management. I was trying to split a stack, and this is what I'm presented with: Y to move. X to quick split (divide stack in half). Hold X to drop. Hold Y to split stack manually. Why, why why why.... are these things split up. Y should be move, Holy Y should be drop. X should be Quick Split, Hold X should be Manual Split. Someone should look in to, you know, modes. I shouldn't be trying to build while I'm in the middle of combat. Conversely, when I'm building, WHY ARE MY BUTTONS STILL ATTACKS? Instead, the developers decided that convoluted button combinations that have no sense of flow was the better option. It's like they just took a list of functions, sorted them randomly, and then assigned them out. There was clearly no thought or care put in to button layouts in this game at all. Seriously. Controller support absolutely RUINS an otherwise great game.
Ever wanted to feel like a vampire in a survival crafting game?
Me too. I can't wait for a game like that to come out. This one kind of squandered that premise. I feel less like a vampire and more like an overworked administrative services manager, filing requisition forms every 16 hours to make sure we have an adequate supply of lumber and Ghost Shrooms. What had a decent start and a strong premise becomes a mind-numbing grind by end game and I found myself booting it up just to be done with it, all sense of joy sucked out of my body. The combat and building mechanics are the strongest parts but both are mired by an unintuitive control scheme, the camera needs a major overhaul(or mod), and for the love of Megara can we please use the coffin to "sleep" and turn day back into night?

The game gave me strong Castlevania vibes from start to finish. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute spent playing, both solo and with friends. We built our castles, crafted weapons and armor, hunted for materials, and fought bosses, among other things. This game was an absolute blast for me and all my friends who had the opportunity to play it both before and after its public release. Kudos to the entire Stunlock Studios team; I’m excited to see what more they will create in the future.

Great game! Played it with my girlfriend and we both loved it. The gameplay strikes a great balance between exploring, fighting, and building up your vampire castle. Progression feels really rewarding, every boss you beat unlocks something new, which keeps things fresh and fun. Highly recommend, especially if you're into co-op games with a dark fantasy vibe.

Fun to play alone on a private server for a bit but once you get to a certain point it's meh. Playing online I'm sure is great if you have a party to constantly log in and make sure the ol' castle door didn't get blow open and the whole base taken over. If you're by yourself most severs are over populated so you end up either surrounded by enemies or are forced into the high level areas where hunting and feeding are so much riskier. If you do have a base set up you better hope it's hidden/ somewhere bullshit to get to because some one will come along some day in the week and rofl stomp you. Also i paid $30 extra originally and got 2 whole skin packs with transformations in one (Both are $10 still) and it costs $20 for the new skins? WTF?

V Rising is a fresh take on the survival genre, blending vampire mythology with base-building, exploration, and intense PvP combat. Developed by Stunlock Studios, it invites players to awaken as a weakened vampire in a dark, gothic world—and rise from the shadows to become a fearsome nocturnal lord. At its core, V Rising combines classic survival elements—resource gathering, crafting, and progression—with unique vampire mechanics. You start fragile, vulnerable to sunlight, and hungry for blood. Managing your vampiric needs adds a compelling twist to the usual survival formula. Combat is visceral and strategic, relying on timing dodges, using a mix of melee, magic, and ranged attacks. Boss fights feel challenging and rewarding, requiring you to carefully prepare your gear and tactics. Base-building is a highlight. Your castle isn’t just a safe haven—it’s a statement of your power. You can design sprawling gothic fortresses with everything from crafting stations and blood wells to defenses against enemy players. The depth of customization encourages creativity and personalization, making your vampire lair truly your own. The game’s world is atmospheric and richly detailed, filled with dense forests, ruined villages, and eerie castles. Exploration rewards you with rare resources, powerful bosses, and hidden lore. However, some areas can feel a bit repetitive, and the map, while large, sometimes lacks distinct landmarks to aid navigation. PvP is a double-edged sword in V Rising. On one hand, it adds tension and stakes to your progression—raids on castles, surprise ambushes, and clan warfare spice up the gameplay. On the other hand, some may find the PvP encounters frustrating, especially if they’re outmatched by veteran players or larger groups. That said, cooperative play and clans foster teamwork, and surviving with friends against the night’s terrors is incredibly satisfying. V Rising boasts a moody, gothic aesthetic that perfectly suits its vampire theme. Environments are richly textured, with haunting lighting effects and atmospheric weather. Sound design enhances immersion, from the ominous creaks of your castle to the tense music during hunts and battles. The progression system balances leveling up, unlocking new abilities, and upgrading your gear and castle. With frequent updates adding new content, bosses, and events, there’s plenty to keep players coming back. The mix of PvE and PvP objectives ensures varied gameplay experiences. V Rising successfully carves out a unique niche by merging vampire lore with survival and building mechanics. It’s not without rough edges, but its atmosphere, combat, and base-building shine, offering a satisfying and fresh survival adventure. If you love gothic horror, strategy, and a bit of competitive edge, V Rising is a thrilling blood-soaked journey worth sinking your teeth into. Rating: 8/10

Coming from a guy that didnt really like survival and base building games. This game is LIT. Base building mechanics are awesome and the design is really good, while the rest of the game consists of research, boss battles and pvp. A bit grindy but it can capture your attention and make you enjoy it for quite some time before you get tired of it

Played the game since it started Early Access, and the constant improvements by the developers have been the bees knees. The game is challenging, immersive, and full of fun. The multiplayer feels fantastic and the character progression is on point. The option to configure the game settings for things like resource drops and the like is a godsend for replaying the game. I was excited when this game first came out and it has kept delivering experiences that would knock the socks off of the most securely-socked sourpuss. 10/10, looking forward to what comes next.

One of the best Vampire experiences, you can ignore half of the mechanics and still have fun exploring. Worth buying just for the PvE imo. You can still interact with other players even if you are not in a PvP server and play together. Needs more vamp goth badddies tho.

No story and minor lore, just excellent gameplay. Got me hooked over hours for weeks on. The main focus is to take down bosses over and over again. Each boss is different, other mechanic and some require to change your load-out/ equipment. You don't have a leveling system or experience, but you upgrade gear. This keeps you in nice balance with bosses. There are some resources to be collected with slim number of events. The resources are used to build your castle, workshops to build your equipment. Summarized: No story, minor loot, there is base-building but the main focus is clearly the shear number and major variety of the bosses.

Every major patch to the game requires you to fully restart if you wish to enjoy any of the new content/changes/fixes etc. Given how much time and effort goes into making it to the endgame it is incredibly frustrating to repeat 60+ hours of content just for a couple new weapons and a handful of bosses. Given the game plans future updates it needs to be more clear that you are locked into the current version of the game and will never see any update content unless you make a new save and complete most of the game again each and every time a major patch comes out.

A Vampire Power Fantasy With Castle Walls, Fangs… and Missed Potential V Rising isn’t just good — it’s honestly one of my all-time favorite games. The moment I stepped into this gothic world as a freshly awakened vampire, built my first castle, and began draining the life out of everything that moved — I was hooked. It’s dark, stylish, atmospheric, and the building mechanics? Near perfect. I spent hours designing massive, intricate mansions with winding hallways, blood forges, and throne rooms that deserved their own cutscenes. Of course, my friends barely noticed them (rude), but I knew I was architecturally slaying. The castle-building system alone makes this game a must-play for any creative soul. But here’s the thing — V Rising could be a true masterpiece, if it leaned more into deeper PVE systems, like Diablo does. Imagine MMO-style co-op raids, more dynamic skill trees, deeper character customization… it would be next level. Right now, the character development feels a bit too basic, and while the classless system is flexible, it lacks the weight and depth that could make each vampire feel truly unique. And don’t even get me started on the endgame. After the amazing early and mid-game progression, the excitement slows to a crawl. The lack of meaningful endgame content — and the decision to drop cosmetic DLCs instead of actual story or equipment expansions — feels like a huge missed opportunity. This world begs for more: more bosses, more gear tiers, actual story DLCs, and complex missions that keep you playing for more than just vanity items. Still, despite its flaws, I can’t help but love it. Few games make me feel as immersed, powerful, and creative as V Rising. With just a bit more attention to content depth and progression systems, this game could easily sink its teeth into the legendary tier of ARPGs. V Rising is a gothic gem with near-perfect building, stylish combat, and endless atmosphere. It’s already awesome — but with deeper endgame content, expanded character builds, and meaningful DLC, it could become immortal.

I love a lot about this game and I will continue to play it. There is a lot that needs work/needs to change. Most bosses are just annoying. Bosses spam AoE attacks. That wouldn't be so bad, but they also move around way too much and way too far. As soon as you get close enough to attack you either must retreat from something like a bomb or they run very far away. Boss fights are also rarely ever a 1v1 experience. They either start with 2 minions of their own, or more frequently are joined by a large pack of roaming enemies. Trying your hardest, whittling a boss down, just to get ganked by 3 brutes and 2 archers? Feels bad. There is a serious imbalance in status effects and damage. An enemy can stand in fire indefinitely, yet you burn like a wicker chair. That could be forgivable seeing as you're an undead and, traditionally, fire bad but then there's getting frozen. This game takes being frozen to an extreme. I understand being stalled for a full second, even two but 3+ seconds of being frozen stiff? Again, that just feels bad. Crafting certain resources takes a ridiculous amount of time. 2 full minutes real time to craft 1 iron ingot? That is way too much. That's even after you use the right flooring and get a reduction to the time it takes. Yes, your stuff will continue to refine while you're offline. That's great, but it's just not respectful of the players time. When something requires nothing more than the player wait, it is a bad mechanic. There is an imbalance between physical and spell power. There is so much that buffs spells to the point they're OP, but physical damage feels like a game of catch-up[, even with the right gear. I would like to see there's an actual difference in my physical and magical damage output. Why give me a whole bunch of awesome weapons and weapon skills if they're always dwarfed by spells? The negative status effects in this game are the absolute worst. I could honestly change my review to positive if they changed this one aspect of the game. 4 full seconds of being frozen for hitting the enemy shield once? 7 full seconds spent as a goat? Being charmed, then stunned, then charmed again? It's extremely annoying. There are many aspects of the game that just involve taking up too much of your real life time. Status effects last too long. You're too slow. Anything takes way too long to craft and requires too many resources to do so. Why do I have to wait 48 minutes for the next rift incursion? Why does so much of this game require so much extra time? The game feels very much like a MMORPG in that you're just waiting for a lot of things to happen or finish. Castles decay? Why? No, generally speaking it isn't a game ruiner but it's not adding anything to the experience for me. "Hey, there's a chance you may log in after some time and your whole castle may just simply be gone". Excuse me? What purpose does that serve? I have seen posts sating that it helps prevent server death. Okay, sure I guess. I could also have the availability to not play the game for some time, come back, and pick up where I left off. The way spells are unlocked could also be changed. You want to go frost, but you have to wait until you've unlocked several abilities in unholy, chaos, blood, etc. It's not really a big deal, I can understand how the devs maybe want to expose you to a taste of everything first. I think it would be nicer to have the option to decide right away where it is I want to go with my build. Movement speed is just awful. there is a pretty lengthy timer on your dash, so how does it make sense to also have the player move at a snail's pace? It's very frustrating. Your helmet is for nothing other than cosmetic value. That doesn't make sense. In addition, why does the helmet un-equip when you die? Your regular armor and weapons all stay equipped, but your helmet and any potions all un-equip...? Why? Enemies, and especially bosses, should be stationary. As mentioned before, it's pretty frustrating when you're working down a boss only for a pack of 5-6 enemies to come along and decide they want in. I came here for a boss fight, not a bullet hell. It's made much worse when you're fighting a boss and another entire boss shows up to jump in. Having enemies just out and walking around sort of makes sense, but it's not working well here. When I want to engage in combat I go looking for it. That's part of building/crafting games in general. You have a safe place, a base, so you get to decide when it's time to fight and when it's not. Enemies should stay at their bases. I'm going to keep playing. I would recommend this game on sale. It can be a lot of fun. I've experienced too much frustration and heard too many complaints from friends to warrant giving a positive review.

One of the few games which i would really like it to overstay it's welcome, but it doesn't. 10/10. First of all i want to emphasize that i played only solo PvE on my own server with some obvious QoL features (like ability to use teleports with any type of resource) and completed the game 2 times. First on normal, then on brutal. Lovely MOBA based gameplay in a survival setting. Juggling cooldowns while avoiding random bullshit from enemies just clicks with you, the right amount of everything. Gameplay loop is you farm resources, construct/upgrade your castle, craft/improve gear, kill bosses. Every aspect of it is enjoyable. Some bosses on brutal are extremeley ruthless and require a lot of attempts to figure out but nothing is impossible. I also really like that it is almost impossible to get lost as UI and UX in this game is just next level. Everything is sound and clear. My probably biggest complain is camera. You always have to manage it and at first it's inconvenient af but you get used to it pretty fast. Big con a lot of people complain about is full reset of the game with big patches meaning complete loss of your save files and of all your progress. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with it, consider it more like seasons in poe-like games. Plus it doesn't really take long to finish the game (just about 30-35 hours) and periods between updates are pretty long. Though to be fair i was lucky to buy a game with 1.1 release and i guess i would be salty if i bought it just before big patch so i can relate to people who complain about it. But overall game is a mustbuy.

Very nice game. Played without any PvP. Just PvE with a friend. Combat is good, you get lot of options and combinations. Bosses start easy, but gradually grow more difficult, so the combat doesn't get stale and all throughout the game you get various upgrades to fresh out the gameplay. OST is alright, nothing really special. Last boss fight music is the only one that I remember. Base building is amazing. It's easy, intuitive and for everyone. For the no-effort gulag makers as well as the royal castle architects. The one thing I disliked is that the game gives you very little vanity items and a lot of them are locked behind stupid, small percentage loot from small percentage appearance of chests. If you are playing a vampire, you have to look cool. Though I have enjoyed the expierence a lot and if new updates like 1.1 appear again, I will probably revisit.

I had my hopes on this one but it appears I was 3 years late. The game is dead for me. I like pvp, and enjoy solo aspects of it. There is ONE populated solo server out there. You get so outplayed there's nothing to learn and nothing to gain in any way, I cannot recommend this as a pvp game.

V Rising is one of those games that immerses you into it's world, and then just grips you: The gameplay is outstanding and intuitive, and it fits perfectly with the fantasy of the vampire. You're gradually introduced to mechanics and getting very powerful upgrades. The game doubles as both a base-builder and an Action-RPG, and excels at both - It's the perfect mix of genres, both in terms of gameplay, but also balance of time spend doing both, and difficulty. Everything is introduced to you gradually, and all mechanics just makes sense. Your base is initially very small and simple, but it slowly grows and becomes more and more organized and separated. It's usefulness increases ten fold, but you never feel overwhelmed by it - Again, because it's given to you in small portions. I have only delved into the PvE aspect of the game so far, but love the fact that there is PvP in V Rising as well! I might give a go at some point - Who knows? The only negative things I can say about the game thus far, is that loading times are a bit long and that brief freezes/FPS drops are occurring a little too often for my liking. But that might just be my PC - It isn't that old, though... All in all, a very solid game, with lots of progressing, unlocking, power to achieve, distinct bosses to kill, vampire mansions to design and build, servants to convert, and things to figure out. So far, Id give V Rising a 8 / 10 score.

I don't know what else to say but that this game is great. The progression, combat, and base building have such a good gameplay loop that it just makes you want to keep improving and gathering more resources. The game does a great job at making you feel more powerful as it goes on; from your castle expanding to your vampire becoming more powerful with weapons, armor, and spells. I have only been playing solo offline so I can't speak to the PVP or co-op aspects of the game but I hope to explore them in the future. Great game that I recommend to anyone looking for fun and rewarding progression system and great combat mechanics.

There's something wonderful about splitting your time between hunting the landscape as a nightmarish creature of the shadows and building the coziest little castle around. Definitely a game you can lose yourself in for a while.

Great idea, horrible gameplay...... impossible to play. Developers must be mad. Find a game that is actually playable. This could have been awesome, now it is just maddening.

Great concept, annoying as fuck bosses. They become straight up annoying after the first few bosses. Whenever I wasn't spammed by AOE bullshit I had fun fighting them. Otherwise, I just would kill them to get over with it. I kept playing to justify my purchase.

Not usually a fan of overly melodramatic edgy vampire stuff, but Palworld got me into the survival genre, so I grabbed this one on sale rather than let it languish in the wishlist. It was pretty good, quite light on the pure survival elements and more focused on giving a visceral and responsive combat experience. A challenging game even on relaxed, timing and cycling your dodge and counter/block are essential to surviving bossfights. I suggest swapping out offensive spells for 2 defensive spells as needed, use weapons with inherent dodges like the Greatsword and Pistols, and use ultimates like Raging Tempest that give immunity as an escape, if you're struggling to stay alive. The servant system of the game is nice but a bit limited, I suppose the game design is to make your character do things instead of relying on passive income. The game is quite lonely on solo PvE, it's probably intended to be a multiplayer experience primarily, so play around with the difficulty sliders and the console to just make some things easier for yourself if you feel burnout. Near the end of the game, I found myself poaching different mobs like pokemon and trying to raise their blood quality to 100%. It can get to be a real slog with the 2 options available, the gamble fish and the 35% death chance gruel; you can bump a 45% prisoner all the way to 89%... then all the way back down with the gamble fish (even though statistically it's 60% good outcome with 0-2% gain), and you can kill multiple 99% mobs with the first feeding of the gruel. All I can say is don't get too obsessed, blood taps are pretty good already at 90%, and servants from 65% and up are quite usable irrespective of locale as long as you upgrade their gear as soon as you are able.

The vampire POV is unique and you really have to think about daylight. Boss fights are interesting and there is a lot of spell variety and combinations for lots of different styles of play. Build system is good with the usual too many valheim style boxes of bones and skinns. Beat bosses to skill up and take on more biomes. I'm 45 hrs in and having a good time.

Extremely addicting! Take notes, Blizzard. More people would be playing Diablo IV if it had a fraction of these survival/craft features. I set up a small private server, and we've been having a blast.
