Rich and cinematic take on 1930s America. From rain-slick streets and jazz clubs to smoky alleys and vintage cars, it oozes period detail and classic noir atmosphere. However, the lack of meaningful freeplay is a letdown, especially for a modern remake. Lost Heaven begs to be explored beyond the main missions, but the game keeps you on a tight track. Anyway brilliant, stylish, and faithful, but just short of perfect. A timeless classic, reborn. Compared to its sequels, this game remains the strongest in the series. Thanks to its period-specific charm, and emotional depth. It’s not just a visual upgrade, it’s a respectful reimagining of a beloved classic.

This is one of my childhood games I fondly remember, so of course there was no way I'd miss out on the definitive edition. At times I had a few problems with the inputs on the Steam Deck, so that I could navigate the menu, but not in the actual game. This could get fixed though and after that it was just a pure joy to relieve this great game once again. I was really happy that they kept the classic mode as well even if I felt my age, where it was way harder than I had remembered. All in all I got what I expected and really enjoyed this game.

This game nails what it’s like to step into the shoes of a mobster in 1930s Lost Heaven. The story is gripping, the atmosphere is rich, and the attention to detail makes you feel like you’re really living that gangster life, from the smoky bars to the roar of vintage cars. I genuinely enjoyed the narrative arc of Tommy Angelo, and the game’s cinematic approach keeps you hooked throughout. The gameplay itself feels solid, especially if you’re a fan of story-driven action-adventure games. Driving is smooth, gunfights have a weighty, satisfying feel, and the open-world environment is well-crafted to encourage exploration. Switching between stealth, shootouts, and high-speed chases keeps things exciting. Graphically, it’s a mixed bag. The remake looks stunning overall, but some textures and lighting effects seem inconsistent. Also, the driving physics are fun but occasionally floaty, which might bother players seeking ultra-realism. Gameplay : 8/10 Story : 10/10 Polish : 7/10

I just wrapped up Mafia: Definitive Edition in about 11 hours, and honestly? What a ride. This isn’t just a game — it’s a gripping, cinematic experience that pulls you deep into the smoky streets of Lost Heaven and doesn’t let go until the credits roll. From the very first mission, I was hooked. The atmosphere is rich with 1930s charm — vintage cars, jazz-infused ambiance, rain-slick streets glowing under streetlamps — it’s pure noir magic. The story is sharp, emotional, and beautifully told. You’re not just playing Tommy Angelo; you are Tommy, caught in a spiral of loyalty, love, betrayal, and consequence. What really impressed me is how focused the game is. No unnecessary fluff. Every mission serves the narrative. The pacing is tight, the writing is strong, and the voice acting? Chef’s kiss. It’s a rare gem where you feel the weight of every decision, every moment of silence between gunshots. Gameplay-wise, it's not over-the-top or arcade-y — it’s grounded, deliberate, and immersive. The shooting mechanics, the driving, the hand-to-hand — all solid, all satisfying. But more than anything, it’s the emotion that stays with you. That final monologue? Gave me chills. If you're into story-driven games, Mafia: Definitive Edition is an absolute must-play. It respects your time, delivers a powerful narrative, and leaves you sitting in silence once it’s all over — thinking about the price of loyalty and the cost of a quiet life.

A graphical remake, obvious enhancements to lights and effects and better character mechanics thanks to motion capture tech, taking cover and cover shots has been added to the gun fight better melee mechanics and unfortunately rolling has taken away from the game play. All in all it's just about graphics if you've played the original game like me you won't miss many things, game play and story wise.

ive tried everything to playing on the lowest settings, re installing the game, bypassing the 2k launcher, literally every "fix" i can find online and in the community tab and nothing makes it run smoothly its terrible. this shouldnt even be on the steam store if it isnt optomized. im truly dissapointed. this is apparently a common issue too and its definitely not my hardware because i can run cyberpunk 2077 on ultra and be perfectly fine. so im not sure what the issue is but i could not figure it out

Don't toss this game in a lake with cement shoes simply because of the racing portion... Granted, you will want to. Outside of that mission it's a great story which is hard to come by in many games. Don't be afraid to lose the race a few times in order to learn where the scripted crash scenes are, and use those to gain the lead. There's one each lap depending on where you are in the lineup, don't be near them though or you may find yourself joining the wrecks. Otherwise, if you gain the lead early... don't crash. The race car handles like drunk horse on the turns, so you'll need to learn how to hit them without hitting the wall. Don't be afraid to slow down where it's needed. The first turn is tight, then there's one that's near the cliff, hiding a small hill just tall enough to launch you into a wall or flip you.

The story is super engaging—feels like you're in a classic mob movie. The city looks amazing, especially with the 1930s vibe, and the characters actually feel real. It’s not an open-world game where you can do whatever you want, but the focused story missions make up for that. What I liked: The story’s actually good, not just filler The city looks beautiful and feels alive Voice acting and cutscenes are really well done That whole old-school gangster vibe hits perfectly What could be better: It’s pretty linear—don’t expect a GTA-style open world Some missions feel a bit slow or outdated Not much to do outside the main story

Mafia I is a... decent game. The story is forgettable, the characters are weak, but the gameplay and environment are top-notch. If you want to feel like a gangster, this is a solid pick. The 1930s city is incredibly well-built; you really get a strong sense of time and place. Honestly, that was the part I enjoyed the most. Does it offer anything unique? No. Not really. Final Verdict: 🥈Silver🥈 Rating Units: 🗑️ Trash – Never even think about this game. 🥉 Bronze – Not worth your time. 🥈 Silver – Decent game, worth looking into. 🥇 Gold – You should try it. It offers something unique. 💎 Diamond – Throw it into your bucket list and play this game before you die.
Introduction
Mafia: Definitive Edition is an open-world, third-person shooter remake of the original Mafia game, developed by Hangar 13 and published by 2K. Set in the fictional city of Lost Heaven in the 1930s, you play as Tommy Angelo, a Sicilian-American cab driver-turned-mobster within the Salieri crime family.
Pros

Gorgeous graphics.
A fantastic story with great characters.
A beautiful and detailed city to explore.
Good driving physics.
Realistic mechanics such as stopping at red lights, filling up your tank and obeying the speed limit.
Good gunplay.

Cons

Bad borderless windowed implementation. You can see your taskbar after restarting the game on borderless windowed.
The fullscreen refresh rate is locked at 60 Hz, for whatever reason. Download THIS and install it into the game directory to fix this.
Forced TAA. It makes the game look like a blurry mess and the implementation is so poor that vehicle wheels and pedestrians have bad ghosting issues, more so than the usual.
Washed out colors.
The lock-on during car chases is clunky.
Collectibles.

Conclusion
Despite being a bit of a technical mess with issues that should've been fixed before the game came out, Mafia: Definitive Edition is a fantastic game for those who are into crime dramas. It delivers an excellent experience for both new and old fans of the series while also modernizing a now extremely dated game.

In this wonderful remaster, they didn’t just upscale textures and call it a day, they literally rebuilt the entire game from the ground up. And the result is stunning. Lost Heaven feels alive in a way the original could only dream of. From the rain-slick streets to the glow of vintage headlights, it’s like stepping into a living noir film. But the heart of Mafia remains untouched, and stronger than ever. Tommy Angelo’s story still hits hard, maybe even harder now with the incredible voice acting, motion capture, and refined pacing. The Voice actors did a tremendous job. My Final thoughts: Mafia Definitive Edition isn’t just a great remake, it’s what every remake should aspire to be. It honors the past while delivering a modern experience that feels fresh, polished, and emotionally gripping. This isn’t nostalgia bait trust me. This is remastering done right. 10/10 – A proper mobster tale, reborn in style.

Like watching a great movie with a great story, actors and so well directed. I usually dislike remakes, reboots, recycling (especially movies) but this one was done perfectly: they made an entirely new game apart from story and characters, and even the story and characters are vastly improved (no idea why some deluded 'fans' prefer the original game.

This is not just the best game made on this weary, rotting sphere—we call it a game, but it is salvation wrapped in code. It is joy distilled into light, sorrow undone by motion, a cathedral of color and sound built for the weary heart. When I play, I do not merely live—I ascend. This game is a sunbeam in a cave, the bloom of spring in a dead field, the last true magic left in a world turned gray. Happiness didn’t exist before this—it was only theory. This game invented happiness. It taught my soul to dance, my heart to sing, and my mind to breathe fire. Time bends around it. The stars burn for it. If divinity could be downloaded, it would look like this. No words can cage what this game sets free. It is the purest expression of why we endure the ache of living: to feel this.

If you’re a fan of the folklore surrounding Italian-American mafia families in the pre-WW2 era, Mafia will seriously impress you. The original version was a gem of its time, but this completely reworked edition is sheer perfection. From acting and storyline to the soundtrack, the game radiates top-notch quality. Saying I was shocked by the remake would be an understatement - it’s so well-crafted that I can barely see the connection to the original. At times, it might feel a bit too hard on classic difficulty, but that's a minor complaint compared to the typical console-style checkpoint system, which makes you replay the same sequences over and over again until you’re sick of them. Another thing that slightly spoils the experience is the camera, which, combined with often sluggish controls, can make certain missions feel harder than they really are. The way they’re executed makes them frustrating. It’s a pity that such a large, beautifully detailed city - Lost Heaven - isn’t used in a less linear way. The game leads you chronologically through the story, giving you little freedom to “live the city” the way games like GTA or Watch Dogs do. Still, despite these flaws, they don't overshadow the obvious quality. Aside from a few minor complaints, Mafia: Definitive Edition is a game you definitely shouldn’t miss - even if you played the original years ago!

A Stunning Remake of a Classic Rating: ★★★★★ Mafia: Definitive Edition is an incredible remake that brilliantly captures the essence of the classic game that fans have cherished for years. From the moment you dive into the world of organized crime in Lost Heaven, the gripping narrative pulls you in, immersing you in a richly detailed gangster tale. The gameplay is smooth, making it a joy to navigate the city streets and engage in intense missions. The modern visuals are nothing short of stunning, transforming the original experience into a visually captivating journey. The attention to detail is remarkable, with the environments and character models polished to perfection. Revisiting this iconic story with contemporary graphics and gameplay improvements is a treat. This remake not only honors the original but also elevates it for a new generation of players. Mafia: Definitive Edition is a must-play for both longtime fans of the genre and newcomers alike. Whether you’re familiar with the original or experiencing this story for the first time, it’s an unforgettable experience that you won’t want to miss!

Mafia: Definitive Edition looks great on the surface, but once you actually sit down and play it, it just doesn’t hold up. It teeters on being a good remake but never quite gets there. Let’s start with the driving—it’s awful. Every car feels like it’s on ice, and handling is all over the place. Even for a game set in the 1930s, this is just bad design. Driving is a huge part of the game, and it’s frustrating that it’s so unpleasant. Voice acting is surprisingly weak, too. Some characters sound flat or bored, and it kills the emotional weight of important scenes. It’s hard to care when the delivery feels phoned in. The character development is shallow. You get glimpses of something deeper, but it never fully clicks. Tommy’s journey should feel tragic and layered, but it ends up feeling rushed and a bit hollow. Same goes for most of the supporting cast—they just don’t leave much of a mark. The game looks amazing, no doubt about that. The city is detailed, the lighting is beautiful, and the overall atmosphere is strong. But none of that matters when the gameplay is clunky and the story doesn't land. It’s not terrible. There are moments where it feels like it could be great. But those moments are rare, and the rest is just okay at best. If you’re looking for a deep, story-driven experience, this one comes up short.

This is one of the most cinematic and story-rich games I’ve played in years. Mafia: Definitive Edition nails the 1930s atmosphere, from the smoky jazz bars to the tense mob sit-downs. The characters are believable, the voice acting is phenomenal, and the plot feels like it was pulled straight out of a classic Scorsese or Coppola film. If you're here for story, this game absolutely delivers. BUT... Like many others, I ran into a frustrating crash right at launch. I'd hit "Play" and the game would crash before even reaching the main menu. No error message. No logs. Just silence. After an hours of googling, countless youtube videos watched. I finally figured it out

The original was fantastic and way ahead of its time. But nowadays there are so many good games and much better stories than Mafia 1. This game is clearly a 2002 games masked with better graphics. The gameplay is tedious, Repetetive, and ungeneric for todays standard. And the story makes absolutely no sense. But for the price its a great game to play through once. Mafia 2 is still by far the best game in the series. TL:DR: Game is mediocre but at a very good price, The original version was a masterpiece at that time but it does not hold up today

Honestly, it's a pretty decent game, especially if you're new to the whole gaming scene. The gameplay is super easy to pick up, nothing complicated, which is great. Now, the story. It's... fine. Nothing mind-blowing, just your average mob tale. I have to admit, though, considering how often people rave about this being the best Mafia game, I really hoped for a bit more depth. It left me wanting, which was a bit of a letdown after all the hype. But here's where it really got under my skin: no manual save. Seriously, you're at the mercy of the autosave, which is just annoying. If you quit before hitting a checkpoint, poof, all that progress is gone. It's a real pain in the neck and definitely pulls you out of the experience.
