As a rule I don't play Early Access, but I've been beavering it up for awhile now, and can definitively say the beav is worth the beav. Some beavs would say the beav isn't up to beav. But you better bebeav it is.

I'll hold my hands up and be totally honest, I played a lot before I purchased on Steam, uh, officially. I was somewhat sceptical of the game, and for the life of me I don't really know why. I like colony sims and thematic ones are always good. Not sure, may be just it was "unproven" to me and I did not know how good it was. One day decided to watch a video on YouTube, er yeah it immediately sparked my interest and made me question what I had been waiting for. Played for multiple hours on install, until I realised - "Damn, 3am? Really?". I have not done that with a city builder/colony manager for a bit, Rimworld is another culprit, and I had to wait until I got paid to get a hold of a proper copy. Then happens to be on Sale, so I got it at a great bargain, even if I was willing to pay full price. The short of it is, I absolutely adore it! The building on buildings to utilise vertical space to add a complexit and intricacy is so wonderful. Reminds me of RCT/RCT2 with the path options and elevated walkways creating multilayered and threaded paths weaving like a circulatory system. Buy this game. It runs great, looks lovely, captivating management, lateral and vertical/stackable buildings, water physics and management including water damming and sluice gates etc...the new Ziplines are so absolutely adorable I might die every time I see it being used. Sincerely, do not skip this one.

If I were more into the engineering and min maxing the colony I think I would have gotten more out of it, it becomes more of a 'make your own goals' type of game once you've unlocked and implemented a few technologies.

Honestly I loved this game but the moment you switch from leisurely playing to serious maps the game cpu usages generates lag that is extremely annoying to the point of being unplayable. On small 128x128 maps I’ve made multi tiered max happiness without any major hiccups. Moment you try to play hard core to get that max on a bigger map you inevitably need longer power shafts, more open water, more paths and more districts. All of those each impact performance. My decent rig suffers as the game is built for CPU entirely. Chewing up 14-16 GB of RAM and 80-100% CPU. Playing the game a few times is fun, you get serious and it becomes unplayable.

Super Excited to see where this goes at Full Release. The game has a good balance of early game survival mechanics, with late game production chains. It uses the beavers as a measure of your progress with their happiness as you add more and more amenities and foods to the available reserves. Vertical building is super unique and challenging with the stairs limitation and entrances being above for some buildings. Where at first I wanted a wide open map, I now want to go to a smaller map to see how it plays. However, Its missing a few key features before it can be as easy to play as its competitors. We do not have any resource graphs or monitoring aside from a live counter, so Im always wondering if a new change in my district is trending anything down or up. The beavers clearly prioritize certain foods above the rest, but you don't notice it until the blueberry storage stays full for multiple seasons. The game also really needs help when it comes to building at scale, like clicking an existing building to go into build mode so you can place the same again while copying its settings. Little QoL things like that are sorely missed. The biggest issue however is that its missing a good tutorial that covers more than just your starting home. The game has very "in depth" water mechanics that you realize actually goes quite deep. (sorry) Districts that can be established in remote regions for more efficient work and you can make it easier with district crossings. A lot of "Badwater" harvesting content comes up late game. And it all just gets thrown at you immediately all at once on a craft menu that doesnt hide anything as you launch the game. So you will be overwhelmed at first and thats what stopped me from getting deeper into the game when I first checked it out years ago. A good "story" style guide that introduces you to all the mechanics throughout the game would make it so much more enjoyable and easy to get into.

Extreme tedium is the name of the game. While there is something truly special hidden beneath layers of frustrating micro management and slow gameplay. I would not recommend this game. It seems to be that the developers wanted to make a game that was relaxing, which comes at the cost of progression (slowing things down). I don't mind that, however couple that with the tedium in getting things done makes this all in all a deeply frustrating experience, where the relaxation is never achieved and you have a very slow sense of progress.

This is the kind of game you start playing around 6 in the evening, and you blink once or twice and it's 6 in the morning. Very original idea and a good city builder, one of the best I played in years. I hope they will be able to fix the laggy loading screen and auto-save when it's out of early access, especially with a bigger world you start noticing it. But the game didn't crash once, my PC just has to work hard, so that's positive haven't lost any progress.

If you played oxygen not included, this is basically a 3D version of it for me. Runs pretty smooth, the different difficulties are challenging. In the lategame there is not much to do, but I believe that's how this genre is you just go for next fun creative project you come up with. Watch Francis John if you want to check out how it works!

This is one of the best civ games I've played. Timberborn acts an ever evolving, addicting puzzle that also implements both creative and engineering design. Your map is essentially an ant farm; a living organism that you build from scratch. Success and failure depends on how quickly and wisely you decide to increase your population. Too quickly, then your colony will starve. Too slowly, then shifts in the weather will overwhelm your limited power to protect yourself. Meanwhile you design your city to be as ergonomic and efficient as possible. Have a wheat farm? You probably should have it near your buildings that produce bread. Yet, those buildings also need power, which also takes up space and resources. Oh, and the bread should be near your homes so your beavers can eat before they go to bed. This will cut down on their commute time. Dang, but there isn't enough space for all those structures to fit in the same nearby space. Maybe build a zipline between the farms and the homes? Then suddenly, just as you're considering all this, you get an alert that a severe [i]30[/i] day drought is coming. Your crops are about to die. These are the types of decisions you make in Timberborn. Every challenge presents itself as a direct consequence of your previous design decisions. It's very easy to experience time blindness and play this game for hours. And then there's the most important element in the game: controlling, anticipating, and landscaping the flow [b]of water[/b]

The game is a well built city builder/strategy game however after the first 3 droughts it becomes easy, badtides are also hard at first if you don't prepare for them. Once you finish the early stage it begins to become repetative droughts and badtides aren't hard, and you're ultimately stuck trying to complete the game or work on your next mega project which is fun but you can't really afk since you usually have to controll something during badtides, yes you can argue you can slucices to automate everything but something always ending up going wrong. Other than these issues the game is strangely addicting it's fun and it's always nice to see your mega project finally go together.

Timberborn is a great game, i love how it feel's like your dealing with real creatures, it's so immersive and i find myself lost playing it for hour's on end. I 100% recommend you buy the game it's well worth it and I think this game deserves to be way more popular then it is, have a nice day and i hope you get to enjoy playing Timberborn.

This game is a fantastic city builder in 3d. I've watched a lot of RCE play this game so I knew the mechanics but it is so much fun coming up with creative solutions. Love it! Although the game is in Alpha it is incredibly stable and feels complete but thankfully the devs are active in adding new features. The latest update with tubes and ziplines is wonderful!

I had never played any colony sim or city builder before this, so i thought this game would be a little complicated. However, it is easy to get into and very enjoyable and fun. In this game you can build the beaver colony of your dreams. Very easy to put lots of hours into

After playing this game, i can see this is a good "building city type" game. How player manage resources, manage your beaver colonies, how to manage dry season and badtide, and that's all. For every map and beaver type, it's always follow same rules, build city, watch resources (water, food, wood, etc), and build the wonder (if you wanna "finish" the game) With that, there is some caveat about this game: 1. Its repetitive, for every map and every beaver, different map makes your early game feel different (how much land you can convert to farm/forest, is there a lot of mountain region near your district, how much river flowing through your colonies, water sources and badtide sources placing, is't at edge or center of the map). but at mid to late game, its always same for every map and beaver because if you can manage early very well, then later mid and late game become manageable (build factory and robot, adjusting land by dynamite or dirt, make new district center or transportation center). Different difficulty needs different cycle to finish, but in the end, it's always same 2. Water mechanics in this game borderline not good, if you only dam water with floodgates with plain terrain, then it's normal, but if you combine with different terrain dam, sluices adjacent with floodgates and different cliff tiles, and a dirt in river that somehow makes your river flow become weird, it's makes your game annoying enough. if you play this game because water mechanics, then you'll be disappointed 3. Water sources sometimes not consistent enough, sometimes it have a lot water flowing, sometimes it dry before dry season, or badtide form water sources come a lot that makes your dam useless. at least player being told how much water sources generate water. 4. Need more building and beaver faction to make different enough from another one. This game has been early access for ages and only get 2 beaver factions, just hope it didn't take another ages for add another beaver faction With those caveat, this game still looks promising and good enough to play, different enough form another building city type games, that make you have more creativity and flexibilty to play it

So I kind of wish there was a neutral review. TL;DR If you like cities builders there is a good chance you will like this game. Overall, this is an interesting city builder. It's cute. This is not an economy sim, you will not be dealing with taxes and services. You will be dealing with getting food and shelter. There are some interesting challenges. The tutorial is good for the very basics and then you are left on your own to figure things out. Most things are clearly marked, but that said you have to be careful about grabbing new buildings to early. Because you can easily use your science to grab a building and then not be able to build it for a long time. I still can't figure out how to make a new district without losing a chunk of my population. The districts don't appear to share resources so I have lost many residents to thirst while trying to get a new district set up. I bought this with the summer sale discount. I don't think I would want to pay full price though.

The hands down best thing about this game is the replayability, every new game is different and 6 different starts on the same map can have wildly different games. You have the tools to rebuild the entire map if you are feeling really ambitious. 10/10

This game is wonderful. It's a challenging game where a simple mistake can suddenly become a near or totally ruinous disaster. It has excellent features and keeps getting more. Each of the buildings and their function and costs are well thought out making it essential to monitor what you are doing so it doesn't ruin your entire beaver colony. This is probably the best game I've played in years. I would highly recommend this game, it is so much fun!

I've loved playing this game. Each update has added something different and unique. I'm not normally a city builder gamer, but this game hits the spot. I generally play with extra mods (ladder, rotating sun). I've been playing each map to completion on at least one faction.

This game is very low stress and fun to play just for relaxation. The opening stages can be challenging but once past the first cycle you are pretty safe and its just how imaginative with your building and water movement you can be. I am playing with updates including zip line for reference.

This a real nice captivating game. You can play a world to try to understand the mechanices, then you can select a different world (or re-start it) - or even choose another tribe. The water mechanics are quite elebarote, but not over powering. All in all, a greta game to relax and forget your everyday stress!

I've played this game to death and keep coming back to it. It's one of the very, very rare examples of early access done incredibly well. Updates are quick and generally add great content, the recent Ziplines & Tubeways update is a perfect example of that. I really can't recommend this enough for those who like settlement builders, especially if you like a quirky theme! There's so much potential here with the water management element too, it's a real sandbox experience. I would like the end game to be made a bit more challenging, since once your settlement is self-sufficient, there really isn't much challenge left. I hope the devs will work on that. For an early access game, the level of polish is really impressive - I've played around 15 hours this week without noticing a single bug. I know there are some that exist, but the devs are tracking and squashing them proactively. Very immersive game, easy to learn and fun. Hate the auto-save pauses. If they can warn the player that it's going to save so I don't smash the same icon repeatedly, that would be great.

You know when I saw this game I just liked the beaver part of it. So I was only expecting it to be a simple game. After playing for 9 hours... This game is a wet dream kind of Theme Park Tycoon. The hights you can build stuff is crazy. Once I realized I can build up... Oh boy, it was game over for my brain. I went insane with it. I even forgot I'm supposed to clean up the land. Normally the way I do reviews are I explain why I liked it then I talk about pros and cons. This game? I don't know if I ever seen any cons. Well I see one but it's not really a con. They don't have beavers like a cute mascot. Beavers being amphibian really gives you a lot of options like farming under the water. Making roads across the river, cutting the trees with their teeth, etc. I really liked that. Cons... It's not really a bad part of the game but tutorial is... Not enough. Especially once it comes to cleaning up and fighting against the waste water. I never watched anything so I was fresh into the game. I figured it out soon enough but I have tons of city builder games under my belt. For a normal player it'll bore them since the waste water slowly damages your food supply. Other than that, smooth game. Totally worth the price. This game still being early access would put some of the released games to shame. It looks that finished to me. Go buy.

This game is stated as early access still but it is better made and more complete than many games i have played. The game has and still is evolving and we are on major update 7, which for a company like paradox, ubisoft or 2K would be the equivilent of realeasing the game unfinished and having 7 major DLCS. All of which probably costing the same price as this game currently costs. If you have any interest at all in management sim/city builder type games you really should buy this game even with it still in early access as while the game is still evolving the devs do a great job of listening to and working with the community to mean that updates actually mean improvements to the game and make it better and more in deppth to play. It might look cute and have beavers but it is a fully fledged and deep city builder with freedom and flexibilty (much of which has evolved and been added) to pretty much do anything your imagination can think of. Each update has an extensive beta testing phase which means you can just play it if you wish and while you do risk bugs the beta release is often of a better standard than most AAA games. This also means modders get extensive opportunity to make sure mods work and are updated for the oofical relase of the latest version. The devs are also happy enough to see what mods are out there and integrate them into the game so each release i tend to use less and less mods. Not because they broke, but because i don't need them any more. The development of this game and the devs themselves should be seen as a model for the games industry for how it should be.

Fun game but it keeps crashing. Something like every 5 minutes or some the game finds a reason to crash. It all started with the last update, which was cool, except for the crashing. Hoping they fix it. I probably wont play again until the crashing is fixed.

Lots of fun, and lots of mods, and lots of fun mods! Not minecraft, but it's still REALLY good.
