I bought this game thinking I could have an enjoyable experience with the graphics and gameplay, but every 2 seconds the game stutters even with a 4070 ti super and i7 14700k and 32gb of 6000mt ram. After it ran it's internal benchmark, it said my recommended settings were all ultra with rt on, mind you this is only 1080p with nvidia control panel set for max fps and not for good graphics, but it couldn't even run on dlss ultra performance with low settings without stuttering every second. Like atleast optimize the game and it leaves you with a very enenjoyable experience. I would not recommend this game to any1.

One of the best open-world games I have ever played! The story, adventure and creativity make it truly special. It's so relaxing, so refreshing and absolutely worth every penny. A magical experience from start to finish!

Visually and mechanically, the game is amazing, it looks stunning and plays smoothly. The story is well-written, easy to follow, and does a good job capturing the magical world. On the surface, there’s nothing wrong with the game.
But here’s where it falls flat for me: the RPG mechanics feel pointless. Gear is uninspired, and the stat progression adds little to the experience. The open world is massive, yet filled with repetitive camps, collectibles, and shallow side content. Exploration quickly becomes dull, and the constant rinse and repeat gameplay just doesn’t hold my interest. Combat, unfortunately, is also flat and underwhelming. Despite having a variety of spells, most encounters end up feeling the same, spam attacks, dodge roll, repeat.
I haven’t finished the main story yet, simply because I’m struggling to get through it. I can barely play more than two hours at a time without getting bored. Honestly, I think the game would’ve been far more enjoyable if it had focused on a tighter, more linear experience rather than trying to be another big open-world sandbox.
I don’t understand the obsession game developers have with turning everything into massive open-worlds, especially when it means stuffing them with filler content. I’ll probably push through and complete the main quest, but I dread launching the game at this point.
If you’re a die-hard Harry Potter fan, you might be able to sit through the shallow gameplay just to soak in the atmosphere. But for anyone else expecting meaningful RPG depth or engaging exploration, temper your expectations.
5/10 - Nah, I'd rather go do IRL things.

Even though I gave this a thumbs up there are some very big negatives. Thankfully none of them are gameplay. Gameplay is fun and graphically amazing.
MANY sidequests as well a LOT of mods from players that work fantastic. I have SEVERAL mods running smoothly.
The story is.. ok to good.
Minor spoiler alert
Killing people because they are capturing animals which,, we can as well,, and,, it's weird. .really really weird.. That part of the story is almost like peta wrote it.
But the bad and what REALLY hurts this game is the +++++ against white people and traditional England, J.K.'s own writings and a ++++bsbs push..
I'm not allowed freedom of speech if I'm against this so I have to write like this.
Most times it's hardly any actual English people. AND it was stated it was pushed. soo, yea.. purposely removing people because they're white is in fact Ra____. I don't care where you stand on this as I'm not even stating a stance. Simply ruins immersion..
This is silly it has to be said and I'm sure I'LL be called something for it.. But it hurts the game badly..
It would be like creating a school in middle Africa and making over half the people non black and removing them because they thought there were too many black people.. SEE how it sounds ra____ now. Well, that's why it is ,,,,,, to do it here. Then pushing ,,, ,, well, it won't let me post it?
Pushed on purpose.. This is the 1800's and again it was stated it was pushed so..
It hurts it..
cept for most of the villains, their mostly white and british.. ... yea

This game is more of a collecting game than a choose-your-own-adventure story game or combat game. Choices do not dramatically impact the story line early on, and this game gives the feeling that I would only ever want to play through it once since choices are so insignificant. You collect all these magical book pages around town, all these different clothing items from chests, and so forth. There are many miscellaneous side-quests to complete as well. Completing these things level-ups your character, raising your HP, and the clothing you collect acts like armor in other games.
The combat on a computer keyboard feels very awkward when it comes to memorizing which keys are tied to which spells. By playing on story mode or easy, keys appear on the screen, stating which defensive key to press at which times. Easy mode has helped reduce the frustration and annoyance of the learning curb by leaps and bounds. Combat is straightforward but can quickly become redundant. Yes, most of the enemies are spellcasters and use the same spells you use. Shield, dodge, and attack are your main movements with some flashy spells on the side.
Following the directions at the beginning of the game to get to the first class was so difficult I nearly quit the game for good. It's better to look at the map directly sometimes than use the in-game markings to reach your destination.
There are a number of bugs remaining in the game at this time, including walls disappearing. I thought I found a cool room with a pond, but no--the pond was actually the sky, and I fell to my death because the floor disappeared in Hogsmeade. There are chests that won't let you open them after you've cleaned our your gear, so it's not full anymore. The easiest way to get around these is to save and close out of the game before reopening it. You won't necessarily be at the same location you saved at when you load the save file again, but at least you can open those hard-to-find chests... if you can find them again.
Many instructions are absent. One reason I always had so much gear is because I thought they were the outfits. In actuality, you just keep the stats from the outfits, and you can change them to match the appearance of other clothes you own.
You can't skip or fast-forward through dialogue, making the game exhausting and more time-consuming than it needs to be. At least 1/3rd of my play hours are probably due to dialogue cut scenes. Some have taken half an hour to get through.
The art and the world are absolutely beautiful, and I appreciate the day/night cycle. However, they aren't any ambient sounds of nature in the environment, which is a major loss when it comes to helping players relax.
When I stopped thinking about this as a story-driven RPG and started thinking of it as a casual collecting game, I began to enjoy it more. I'm still at the beginning of the game, so my review may change. Thus far, it looks like the developers were quite ambitious and tried to include a number of different types of games, such as combat, choose-your-own-adventure, puzzles, and collection, but only the collection seems extensive and well-done at this point. Hogwarts Legacy feels like it only consists of mini games. If the developers focused more on exactly what kind of game they wanted (or a good storyline) rather than tossing in a little bit of everything, I think it would've been made better.

The game is a broken mess with terrible optimization, The ray-traycing is completely broken and DLSS dose nothing to help with performance and it runs worse than Cyberpunk 2077.
Avalanche Software should be ashamed of themselves it's been over 2 years and the game runs worse now than it did back in 2024.
Fix the game already...

I really wanted to like this game. The atmosphere of Hogwarts is superb and the cast of characters is charming. Game would be a 8/10 or even 9/10 if there would not be a heap of bugs. I don't mind some clipping, stuttering and a rare crash. But Hogwarts legacy has game breaking quest bugs. Do quests in a sequence that you were maybe not supposed to do and you are in for broken main quests. Quest system is opposite of robust. I don't want to rely on walkthroughs just to avoid being stuck in the main quest.
Atmosphere: 9/10
Characters: 8/10
Quest Bugs: 1/10
Graphics: 8/10

I don't get it. Janky controls, not intuitive UI and map is awful, its a massive go fetch quest, boring story, uncompelling NPC's, everyone looks the same, forced to use controller in combat otherwise try hitting shift (run) - ctrl (dodge) - caps lock (target) at the same time while using letters for directions + Q (shield) plus mouse, plus 1/2/3/4 for spells.
you need 2 left hands. horrendously designed controls for keyboard. I'm already tired of the side quests, and everything is about changing your appearance. Many of us aren't playing to interior decorate our characters. Further, you run out of space for "gear" real quick and have to manage that when you want to pick up something else. Graphics are really subpar for 2023 and man does this game suck the resources out of your PC.
Unless you're into the Harry Potter lore, which means you've already played this, I would stay away. It feels, well, like a cash grab with a 2019 engine. Oh wait, it is!

Maybe I could give it a better score if I could play the game but sadly I cannot so can't recommend it. Basically, I bought a game awhile back while I had an older PC so I couldn't play it with the game being some demanding. I bought a new (reasonably powerful) PC and was hoping to give it another go. Sadly, the game is still in such a poor state that it just randomly closes down (I vaguely remember experiencing same thing with my old PC) and all the progress is lost. In the past, I could blame my older PC but as it is the second PC experiencing the same issues so I can conclude that it is their buggy software.
Unoptimized Waste-Water
More than 2 years later the game still runs like complete filth on overkill hardware no matter what you do. Reddit is littered with people with 4090s bawling their eyes out. I'm getting over 140fps constantly at 1440p ultra while the game stutters like Porky Pig in the middle of a panic attack. I've tried everything. Different settings, dropping fps, capping it in several ways, upscaling, frame generation, engine file tweaks, mods, nothing works. Same thing on my girl's 3070 rig at 1080p. Stuttering no matter what we do. Half the areas in the game run like butter while others stutter horrendously. Never paying for a WB game again. Money don't grow on trees. Hogwarts? More like Hogwash. How much you wanna bet Denuvo isn't helping either.

TLDR; the game is all surface no substance.
I'm surprised at how highly reviewed this game is. After playing just under 12 hours, I'm not sure if I'll even bother to finish it. If you enjoy exploring and don't mind repetitive puzzles—which are the only way to earn money and level up—you might enjoy it.
The in-game economy is pretty pathetic. Gear and supplies cost the same at the beginning of the game as they do at the end. While the gear scales with your level, the costs remain stagnant. You can farm items after what I assume is the midway point, but you can't sell anything you farm or any potions you make from those items.
Progression is locked behind exploration and puzzles, which got old once I wanted to earn money for more expensive items. The game is very much on rails; there are no choices to be made, which results in dull dialogue and a lack of character build personalization. I can't imagine anyone would want to replay this game because of its exploration- and puzzle-driven gameplay.
I bought the game over a year after its release for $20, on sale from $70+. Review the DLC options carefully, as some of the cosmetics are just recolored versions of items available in the game.
The combat is short lived and lacking in any depth.

Was really looking forward to finishing the game and completing achievements. Game has become so entirely buggy, laggy, its next to impossible to do anything at this rate. It was fine at first, and slowly devolved into one of the buggiest laggiest things I've ever played. Don't bother unless you're OK with not being able to finish the game

Played 20+ hours and genuinely enjoyed it. Beautiful game, great chance to walk around a place I've dreamed of being for decades.
After an update sometime this spring, I haven't been able to launch the game. It shows the epilepsy warning then the game closes itself. Searching the web it sounds like this issue is common and largely unacknolwedged by devs. Solutions/fixes posted online - including clean installs - do not fix it.
Super, super disappointing. Do not buy. It won't work anymore.

Ultimately the game was just "ok." It was mostly a rehash of Assassins Creed with a Harry Potter skin except with a horrible camera and clunky controls. Exploring wasn't really engaging as it was primarily just looking for more trash items to sell or things that trigger achievements.
Most of your time in the game will be spent collecting crap, popping balloons, landing on platforms, or doing an excessive amount of repetitive Merlin trials. The actual storyline is quite short. There is some interesting lore and nods to Harry Potter but it ultimatly a short game wrapped in a collection package.
Get it on a steep sale or not at all unless you like wandering around for hours at a time.
Just FYI steam glitched. I only played the game for 51ish hours. I collected a ton of stuff hoping it might be useful but most of it was not.

This game is the reason I bought a gaming PC!
Little storytime before we get into the review:
I preordered Hogwarts Legacy for Nintendo Switch, since it was the only gaming device I had at the time.
After the second delay for the Switch version, I had a bit of a rage moment and bought the game for PC—basically forcing my boyfriend off his.
Two weeks later, after some gentle persuasion, he convinced me to get my own PC. Totally worth it!
Two years and over 100 hours of playtime later, I still love this game.
As the Potterhead I am, I had high expectations for this one. And I wasn't disappointed.
There are so many little details taken straight from the books, I felt like I had physically fallen into this well-known world.
And yet, the game still manages to feel unique. There are characters you might have heard of before, others are brand new.
The story is great, and it's easy to get emotionally invested in everything that's going on.
Personally, I struggled a bit with combat at the beginning—probably because I had almost no experience with action games back then.
But I love the variety between exploring, fighting, and solving puzzles.
One thing I really appreciate is how the main story slightly changes depending on your house.
Even the way and time you meet certain characters is different.
That gives the game a high replay value in my opinion.
I can’t say much on the technical side. I don’t have a high-end graphics card, but the game runs fine for me—no major issues, and the graphics still look good.
To sum it up: Potterheads won’t be disappointed!

Can't be bothered to write a proper review so I'll just list some things in no particular order:
- There are no characters in this game, everyone is the same painfully bland, overly pleasant dullard.
- The story is not interesting and barely progressed in the 40+ hours I spent on this game. A sizable chunk of the story missions are just unlocking stuff you should've had from the beginning.
- I suppose the combat can be quite visually impressive but never once did I experience a remotely interesting fight, the only time I died in combat was when I zoned out due to boredom.
- I actually quite enjoyed exploring the castle, which is quite detailed and impressive, unfortunately most of the map is taken up by an open world that is far too big and consists of copy-pasted content.
In summary, I bought this game at a discount and still feel like I got ripped off. Would not recommend.

Amazing game, Shadows of Mordor and Assassin's Creed meet Harry Potter. Great story line, engaging quests, brilliant combat system. You have to school your own brain to deal with the slower reactions of game character, but it's just the way they had to make the game. The blending of both movie worlds is amazing, the beasts, the spells, the potions, it is all a Wizarding World Fans greatest dream come true, minus being in the actual universe. Handling the broom definitely takes some practice, but luckily it factors very little into the story itself, it's just a means of travel. Riding a hippogriff or a graphorn is amazing, if slower than the broom. Bring on part 2!

This one is hard because while it is not entirely without it's merits, it was way overhyped and I do regret buying it so I can not recommend it to everyone. Honestly it was a massive disappointment to play - the quintessential mile wide but inch deep game.
The Good:
- It is the single best Harry Potter game, so if you are a fan of that world then it might be worth it on sale. I am not a massive fan but I did enjoy the books and films when I was younger so I was excited to try this game.
- It is absolutely gorgeous. Hogwarts in particular is a true joy to roam around.
- SOME of the VA is outstanding.
- I did really enjoy customizing my room but it is a slog to unlock items for it.
- Capturing and keeping magical creatures was a ton of fun for me.
- The ability to wear any gear but choose how it appears is a great mechanic which I wish more games would use.
The Bad:
- All of the mechanics are incredibly shallow. There just isn't anything beyond what's on the surface. For a game about magic one would hope for at least a shred of depth to the magic system at least.
- The fighting is very simple and feels like a generic beat em up game. Switching between spells is clunky and annoying mid fight.
- There are constant annoying puzzles which slow you down for no reason and have essentially no pay off.
- Needing to find collectibles to unlock doors when you literally know magic might be the single stupidest thing I have ever seen.
- MOST of the VA is downright atrocious.
- The loot system is ridiculous, you are always running out of inventory space because you find new items every two minutes and each one is just the slightest bit better than the last so you are constantly in the menu swapping and dropping.
- NPCs are static and entirely nonreactive.
- The story was simply just not engaging, frankly I do not want to judge this aspect too hard because I could not even finish it. Maybe it gets better but I doubt it.
The Ugly:
- Bugs. I ran into only a few but one was literally game breaking and it prevented me from progressing. I tried every fix I could find and eventually had to mod my game just to keep playing. Honestly this alone warrants me not recommending this game.
As a side note, the lack of role-playing and simulation elements in this game was also very disappointing. I know that the devs did not advertise Hogwarts as a simulation game but they must have known that the fan base wanted to feel like they were a student at Hogwarts and you really do not get that sense at all. There are also no role-playing elements, you make very few decisions and none of them matter - even the decision to use unforgivable curses has zero repercussions.
In Conclusion:
It's very pretty but there's just nothing under the surface. This game gets old very quick.
If it wore a different coat of paint than Harry Potter then I suspect Hogwarts Legacy would have been a massive flop.
If you are a fan of the Harry Potter universe then maybe buy it on sale to walk around Hogwarts, but this game just does not even come close to meeting expectations based on the hype it received.

This game is incredibly open world and you can basically go where ever you want whenever you want. The quests are entertaining and the main plot line, along with some side plots, are incredibly interesting. The map is better than I could have imagined, and the creators of this game did their research about Harry Potter lore. Of course, no game is perfect. Most of the time, you feel very lonely. There is limited time spent with other characters. You can not interact with them outside of the main quests. You can't sit in the game. You have to have a bit of imagination to connect yourselves with these characters because you spend most of the game time alone. I wish you had the ability to connect more deeply with specific characters. Most of the voice lines you choose in a conversation don't end up mattering. The ending is frequently the same. Again, I definitely recommend this game.

All my friends are playing this game and loving it.

Performance can be a bit unstable, even on relatively high-end hardware. FSR and setting a frame limit helps.
Story is fun, though it's pretty guided compared to the likes of RDR2 or GTA V. I like that as I have a short attention span, but it may not be for everyone. NPC interactions feel a bit forced but it's not a dealbeaker. Overall a fun game, 7.5/10

At first glance it seems that Harry Potter series finally has received the entry in video game medium that it deserved for so long! But the more you play this game the more you realize that it lacks substance and it's just a beautiful shell without anything on the inside!
What made Harry Potter books great was great stories with lots of twists, and a lot of warmth caused by likable characters and slice of life stories in the school. Things that are unfortunately missing here completely! The game's story is very boring, generic and most importantly very illogical in all sense! Characters are flat and uninteresting and while walking in the mysterious hallways of Hogwarts with high definition graphics can be enjoyable, the relationship between your character and the teachers or other students is very shallow and there is no charm that ties you to the whole school year at Hogwarts! (for instance they can learn a thing or two from Persona series for the next installment). To be completely fair, some side quests like buying the new shop or the Slytherin student's side storyline are surprisingly better than the rest of the stories but they are scarce and not enough!
The fight game play and spell casting as well as flying around in the large areas around Hogwarts with broomsticks and magical beasts can create a fun experience for a couple of hours but even that is not enough to validate the meaningless activities throughout the game. The activities such as hundreds of Merlin trials and generic dungeons that are out there just to increase the playtime of the game!
The last thing that I want to mention is tons of graphical and even game breaking bugs (like when your character gets stuck in the environment objects and you have to reset the last checkpoint)
I wished that Avalanche had put more effort and focus on the story telling and game play (RPG elements for instance) instead of adding repetitive activities or tons of customizations for a room that you barely spend time in it! Maybe Avalanche was a wrong choice for this series though, since they never had any experience with great quest designs or rich story telling!

It lags a lot, even with good specs. I spent most of the time changing the graphics, but at the end I only gained 3 fps. At the start of the game, you may be happy you're getting really high fps, same for me, but when u reach Hogwarts or Hogsmede, you will start losing lots of fps and stutter a lot

The game itself is good enough and at a discount it isn't a terrible value. However after about 15hours of playtime on a save the game has started lagging a LOT! Nothing i do seems to be able to resolve it either, and it even seems from some quick googling that I'm not alone.
Mind that the game ran perfectly until this and nothing was changed before the game started lagging. The only thing that was different was about 4 hours of time where I wasn't on my computer.
I really wish this wan't the case as otherwise I'd be happy to recommend it.
That said, if you buy it, be sure to grab it at 50% or more in case you get a similar issue. At least then the money won't sting as much.

Its a good game but its the furthest thing from optimized and it runs like shit. If i paid anything more then 20 bucks i wouldve refunded it immediately, theres no reason for a game like this to run so horribly. Theres mods on vortex you can find to try and fix the stuttering and frame drops, the fact that in the past 4 years modders have done a better job at optimizing this game then WB says enough. I wont buy another WB branded game until someone can honestly tell me theyve done well and it runs smoothly.

I had a blast playing this game. So much do to and never got bored. I was sad when it was over and wished there was more. It was kind of annoying to replay the game 3 extra times as different houses to get a few of the achievements - but its not as overwhelming as it sounds as you don't have to play the entire game each time to get the achievement. Great game, wish there will be more additions or maps in the future.

Game is clearly targeted more for kids and young ones. Everything in this game is easy to primitive, puzzles, quest etc. Where game really shine is capturing HP atmosphere. Graphic is astonishing. It's good game if you love HP universe or want something really relaxing and easy going. There is plenty of MMORPG style repetitive "quests", but those are absolutely optional, you can easily skip them without fear of losing anything.

They introduced a mods feature, which I decided to try. Unfortunately, there was no option to revert or switch between the modded and unmodded versions of my character. When I deleted the modded character, it also erased my original character and all associated save files — resulting in the loss of over 30 hours of gameplay. This reflects a serious oversight in design and user experience. Disappointing implementation from the developers, and based on this experience, I cannot recommend the game.
