The re-release of the game had a rough start, however, I can say it is the best life simulation game out there and is running smoothly now.

I haven't personally had any problems with the game crashing but I know this is absolutely on a case by case basis. This version runs far better than the older Ultimate Collection for me, which was crashing and after some play time would cause the dreaded 'pink soup'. Game wise, it's the Sims 2 as we know it, in all it's buggy lovable state. I have played this game since I can remember and it remains my favourite of the series. If you started with the Sims 4, Sims 2 will be a shock in some regards - needs deplete far quicker, no multitasking, the graphics, etc. But on the flip side the wants/fears system is great and the family play is pretty top notch and simple. I personally play rotationally and have an excel spreadsheet to keep track of the ongoing families. I'd say if you're returning to the series and already own the UC version (and it runs well for you) then there is not anything you're missing here. If you're a new Sims 2 player then this is the safest way to play, steam has a 2 hour refund policy so if you experience any concerning performance issues be sure to use that.

I grew up playing the game but it's not the same. When I try to play it, the game constantly crashes so I lose all of my hard work and there are so many bugs. Whenever I try to make certain foods to eat or even to serve it will have my sims goes through the motions but then act like they didn't make anything. I would love to be able to play this game all day like I want to but it's so hard when there are so many bugs and crashes. If they would fix that then I would play it even more than what I have.

Still a good game in 2025 As for a Steam port, I encountered no issues or bugs

Played this game for over 50 hours with no crashes, after installing tons of mods. Game runs a lot better than The Sims 2 Ultimate Edition that I got for free on Origin years ago.

Might be luck but it's running smoothly for me. I had been avoiding buying based off majority of people's experience from the reviews. One night I said screw it and brought it. Glad I did. I've missed this game so much. Hopefully one day everyone will get to experience a smooth game play.

The game ran fine on my Windows 10 laptop but after upgrading to a new Windows 11 laptop, I can't get the game to work anymore. It crashes after 10 minutes, and doing the recommended "turning off shadows" does nothing. The last time I played, all my custom content hair and clothes started flickering before it crashed again. I tried for two hours to no avail. I'll play again when they fix this mess, but for now I've uninstalled the game.

BUG! The game crashes as soon as you click on the first female hairstyle (the long hair with bangs) everything else works and never crashes except this bug thing, please fix, love this game!

i would’ve wanted to give this a good review because it’s one of those games i’ve been unhealthily attached to for the longest time since i was 5 but man the crashing sucks

This is probably the best Sims game out of the whole franchise, there are lots of items to use and different colour schemes which makes it feel less repetitive, I also love how there are aspirations that give you points so you have something to work towards if you don't want to just create your own story. There is so much you can do here! And it keeps on giving years later.

First of all, to clarify what you get in this port of the Sims 2. You get all Expansions and Stuff Packs minus the IKEA stuff pack, and minus anything that came out of the Sims Store. So it's not quite 'All content', but it has all the content that matters. Secondly, the port is suffering from a 'Your Mileage May Vary' scenario. On the current patch (31st May) I have only two bugs, and it's that the cheat to force alien abductions doesn't work, and sometimes when returning from school, the game auto-teleports all of the Sims inside the house, with no homework (Thankfully this has no negative impact on grade.) Both are not game breaking for me, so I'm not concerned! But I must therefore warn you that you may have a vastly worse experience compared to me. In terms of the game itself, it's Sims 2, with almost all content! It's cheaper than buying The Sims 4's offering, and I'd argue a much more fun experience. I've maintained that The Sims 4 should be called 'The Sims Bustin' Out 2' because, especially on launch, the comparison between Bustin' Out 1 and Sims 4 was not flattering for Sims 4. The hours on Steam so far are just me playing all the Pleasantview Households, I'm sure before long I'll be in Strangetown following the storylines there and making chaos.

Runs perfectly on my AMD Radeon-based desktop. I got it a couple months after launch, and it's released several updates since then, so that probably fixed the issues it was initially having for a lot of people. Never had a single problem on my end after 34 hours of play. The Sims 2 is a legendary classic, and playing it in the present on a modern system is a real treat.

Crashing every 15 minutes now. Game worked for about 4 hours, can't seem to find a fix, seems like the only thing that will get the game running again is deleting everything, and starting the full saves fresh.

I don’t recommend putting out a fire with your only Sim. Even if everything seems under control, you might end up deciding to eat the burnt food — and then your Sim just randomly catches fire and collapses to the ground in flames. Meanwhile, your cat just watches… silently judging. Then a hooded stranger appears and says: “If the goal of the game was to eliminate all your Sims, you’d be a true master, but unfortunately, The Sims 2 is still a life simulator.” Moral of the story: never underestimate a burnt lasagna.

ahhh ts2; i loved this game in my childhood. being able to return to it once again without struggling thru pirating everything etc is a beautiful thing. No micro-transactions, no extra anything. Just pure, simple sims fun like I was a kid.

So far no issues! I have an everyday, not specifically for gaming, laptop and in the 3 hours I played after I downloaded it I've had absolutely zero issues. Hopefully it continues to be fine! important to note tho, I haven't tried the University feature or lived in an apartment yet, so those could cause something I haven't seen yet, but so far loving being able to go back to my Sims roots!

It's just as fun as I remember playing as a teenager and loads a hell of a lot faster, but it crashes quite a lot (more than I remember it crashing years ago). Expect it to just suddenly close 3 or 4 times per play session (of a few hours). There doesn't appear to be a trigger for crashes. It happens coming back from lots, going to lots, clicking up a floor level, anything. If you save all the time, it is a non-issue in terms of progress, but you're now obsessively saving all the time, tainting the enjoyment of a long play session.

So, I do have a 5080, and relatively good computer setup. I would say, I have not had a single crash and I've been playing sims 2 non-stop. The game looks pretty good and if you check the patch notes, they've been fixing things like the UI. Something I consider a missed mark is not adding story mode from console to the legacy mode. I believe story mode was a great addition to the game and also needs to be preserved before it's completely gone. Most people who have played the Sims games from the past remember story mode as being one of the greatest parts of the Sims franchise as a whole -Myself included. I actually only stopped playing sims because they never decided to continue with it. Sims 1 and 2 both should have the story mode from console.

I hate EA for charging so much for a game that is 25 years old... BUT hot damn is sims 2 a bag of nostalgia. It's honestly everything I remember from when I was a kid but so much better. I wish I could just have sims 2 with sims 4 graphics and build mode and I'd be a happy camper. But maybe that's the nostalgia in me. I have yet to experience any issues as far as crashes go, I have had nothing but good performance *knock on wood*. I'd say maybe hold off til a sale unless you're a lover of the series and just cannot get into ts4 because you miss the old sims, this, this is it, along with ts3

this isnt what i remember when i played growing up. why is it so hard to keep their needs green they eat but it barely raises the hunger bar. also it says it comes will all these packs but where are they?? i see the university and city maps but it says its the mansion one. am i suppose to live on the map for the benefits of that specific pack? i feel like theres nothing to do and its hard to do anything bc their needs get low so fast and you need to eat like 4 times in one setting to get a full green. how do i do careers? i thought pets were playable in this one bc 4 and 3 arent. im so lost! is this remastered or original i just remember so much more as a kid than what im seeing now

I had bumpy installation with problem with the display resolution. But It is perfect, NO problems or errors as of right now. I am very happy to have my favorite games centralized in one place. Without having to install discs. YES I DO RECOMMEND THE SIMS 2 GAME, THE SIMS 4 is also running smoothly as of right now. All my past purchases installed and playable. The only problem is that my SIMS 3 is playable but all the content of my different past purchases is not installed . They just installed the basic program The Sims 3. I need the rest of the content be downloaded into my game. For example: Late Night disk is not installed nor the rest, just The Sims 3. Please check this...

The Sims 2 was my first ever Sims game growing up—I was absolutely obsessed with it as a kid, and my mom even got me all the expansion packs. So when the Legacy Collection dropped, I grabbed it mostly for the nostalgia. Yes, modders had already figured out how to make the game work on modern PCs, but it’s nice to have an official version. It had a rocky launch, but thankfully it runs pretty smoothly now. I ended up playing around 30 hours, reliving those cozy, chaotic sim moments. I raised a Sim from baby to teen, sent her off to college… and then she lit herself on fire using the fireplace. Classic Sims energy lmao. I don’t plan to play much more, but it was such a fun trip down memory lane. If you loved it back in the day, it’s definitely worth a revisit.

Just bought this game, and I’m not experiencing any of the “issues” others are talking about. So I guess the real issue here is the consumers themselves—people who regret their purchase and decide to leave a negative review just because they changed their mind about buying it in the first place. This is a nicely remade game, and it doesn’t deserve that. And guess what? I’m playing on LINUX, and I’m still not experiencing ANY problems at all. The game runs fine, and anyone claiming it’s broken is just a straight-up classic liar Karen.
