Insomniac's Marvel Spider-Man Remastered is an overall memorable experience & a freaking blast to play, it's a 9 out of 10 for me in my book because the Remastered version enhances the game's experience, whereas I gave the Original PS4 version an 8 out of 10.
Without going into heavy spoiler territory here for those who have yet to play the game, the Story & Gameplay is Great, gadgets are fun to use in situations where they come in real good handy if you really utilize them, like for example, the Minigun Brutes you will come to face in the DLC can be a handful to deal with especially on Ultimate Difficulty, to deal with them just use Electric Web tasers to stun them & they'll become vulnerable to attacks + Two Full Focus bars will work on them too, just use the your Focus bars & Battle Focus suit power wisely for them. Web Bombs for crowd control, giving you some time to recover, Trip Mines for instant efficient stealth takedowns, that's just one of the few good gadgets mentioned here.
As for Combat, not every game needs a Freeflow combat system like in the Batman Arkham games, in fact, during my time playing Marvel Spider-Man, I had a familiarity like I played this game before & that's when it hit me that Insomniac's Marvel Spider-Man is basically a Remake of Treyarch's Spider-Man 2 The Game 2004 back on the PS2 & Original XBOX but further developed & improved here, which is pretty neat because in Marvel Spider-Man you're relying on the Spider Sense Dodge system in groups of enemies as well as the combo hits in an open world game doing midair tricks & attacks Spider-Man can perform, Angry Joe said it best in his Review of the game. Combat is so fun in Marvel Spider-Man, it's hard not to compare it with the 2004 game & a small light spoiler for Marvel Spider-Man, Story wise, is in a way similar to Spider-Man 2 2004 but Insomniac's own way, if that isn't enough then I don't know what is. Web swinging is also good here too, not as fast as Insomniac's 2023 Sequel Spider-Man 2, but relaxing enough to just swing cruise through New York City at a fairly good speed, my guess I think they don't want the island of Manhattan to feel small because that's where we are only set in, can't explore Queens or Brooklyne yet, they saved that for the sequel.
The City That Never Sleeps DLC is a great addition, in my personal opinion I think it's more enjoyable than Main game, The Maggia storyline reminds me of 2K's Mafia games but set in the Marvel Universe with new variety of open world crime activities, challenging Maggia enemies, & Hammerhead making all 3 main female characters angry. Only thing I dislike about the DLC are the Screwball challenges but it's nothing that hard or serious, certain requirements to get Spectacular or Ultimate (Silver or Gold) is just a nuisance at best. Another gripe I want to point out in Main game & DLC is that once you completed all the Crime activities in all the districts in the City, besides the usual Thug Crimes, other gangs like the Demons, Prisoners, Sable's Forces, & Maggia Crimes don't reappear anymore, which is pretty lame because if you're a completionist & beat entire game, all you're really left are just regular Thugs. I suggest making a New Game + save file & leave out the Gangs that won't spawn anymore until the very end, that way you could Sable's Forces, Demons, Prisoners, or Maggia run around for you to stop & not get bored by the same Thug crimes. Variety is good, I just don't get why Insomniac Games had to make specific Crime events so limited & interesting collectibles like Audio Logs & J. Jonah Jameson Archives missable in some parts of the game. Oh well, at least there are guides on websites or YouTubers to get help with that.
Story, again not to spoil it for anyone who haven't played the game yet but the characters, you already know Peter Parker's deal, living in a dump apartment behind on rent with a lousy landlord & going to his real Job not as Spider-Man. Other characters in the game that revolves around Peter aren't written too overly dramatic, most of them are relatable & act like real humans, same goes with the antagonists with justified motives in why they became villains in the first place which lore wise I don't blame them at all but they go too extreme about it, so obviously Spider-Man has to get involved & prevent it. Also, it was pretty obvious who was going to be the Main villain of the Main story building up to the grand finale when I first played the game but still an iconic main villain. Speaking of antagonists, some of the Boss fights are great & some could be better & like the fact that Bosses don't have any health bars at all, it's like they're going for a realistic approach where you can tell you're almost done & about to knock them out.
Played the Original PS4 version of this game, but playing the Remastered version of Marvel Spider-Man on the PS5 & on Steam with the Steam Deck OLED handheld is great. I love experiencing this game again with updated Remastered graphics & features like Fidelity, Performance, & Performance RT. Personally, Performance RT is the sweet for the PS5 version, having the game run very smoothly with Ray-Tracing Enabled.
Overall, Marvel Spider-Man Remastered is a good time, would play this again on New Game + mode for years to come.
