Big Ambitions is a deep and surprisingly addictive business management simulation that lets players live out the fantasy of building a corporate empire from the ground up in a detailed and semi-realistic urban sandbox. Developed by Hovgaard Games, this title blends life-sim elements with robust entrepreneurial mechanics, allowing players to go from humble beginnings—working basic jobs and renting small apartments—to managing a sprawling network of businesses across various industries. The game excels in how it gradually scales in complexity, giving players the tools to micromanage everything from store layouts and product inventory to marketing budgets and employee schedules. It’s a game not just about making money, but about learning the mechanics of capitalism in a digital city that feels alive and filled with opportunities. The core gameplay revolves around identifying gaps in the market, launching businesses to fill those needs, and expanding strategically. Players start small—perhaps by opening a gift shop or coffee store—but soon find themselves exploring new sectors like fast food, law firms, nightclubs, and even logistics companies. The simulation aspects are impressively detailed: every decision, from choosing store locations and designing floor plans to ordering stock and setting pricing strategies, affects customer satisfaction and profit margins. Managing employees adds another layer of depth—players must consider wages, schedules, satisfaction levels, and even training to keep operations running smoothly. One of Big Ambitions’ greatest strengths is how it ties business management into the player’s personal life. You don’t just build businesses—you also have to eat, sleep, commute, and maintain personal well-being. Balancing your character’s needs with the demands of growing an empire gives the game a life-sim quality that sets it apart from more sterile management sims. Buying better apartments, vehicles, and office spaces not only serves as a visual reward but also boosts efficiency and quality-of-life benefits in meaningful ways. It’s a subtle form of progression that makes growth feel tangible and earned. Graphically, Big Ambitions adopts a clean, low-poly art style that isn’t flashy but serves the gameplay well. The city is filled with pedestrians, cars, and a day-night cycle that reflects the pulse of urban life. The UI is functional, albeit a bit overwhelming for newcomers due to the sheer number of systems and menus to navigate. However, the game does a decent job of onboarding players with tutorials and tips, and once the mechanics click, the interface becomes a powerful tool rather than a hurdle. The sound design, while minimalistic, is serviceable—ambient city noise and simple musical cues complement the gameplay without becoming intrusive. Despite its strengths, Big Ambitions is not without its rough edges. The pacing can feel slow at times, especially early in the game when grinding capital to fund larger projects. There are occasional bugs and balance issues, particularly in the later stages when managing multiple locations becomes complex. AI behavior for customers and employees can also be unpredictable, sometimes requiring manual intervention that disrupts the game’s flow. That said, the developers have shown consistent commitment to updates and community feedback, suggesting long-term support and refinement. In conclusion, Big Ambitions lives up to its name by delivering a comprehensive, rewarding simulation of entrepreneurship and urban life. It offers players a sense of progression and achievement that few management games capture so intimately. Whether you're micromanaging a fleet of delivery trucks or choosing wallpaper for your luxury apartment, every action ties into the broader goal of empire-building. For fans of tycoon games, business sims, or even life-sim hybrids, Big Ambitions is a standout title that successfully merges depth, freedom, and realism in a way that makes each virtual dollar feel hard-earned—and incredibly satisfying. Rating: 9/10

Big Ambitions is a fun little business management game. It will get you hooked and has a lot to offer. Businesses do seem to get a little repetitive but really fun overall. It does not seem like a stale installment money grab game. It is refreshing and adds its own flair. Worth the buy.

Nice addictive business-life simulation sandbox game. Great potential. UI is good. Musics and effects are good. Economy simulation is not too complex. You can choose different type of works.

This is the best and most fun business simulator I played in a long time. I hope that after releasing 1.0 they will make DLC that would make map 5x bigger and add a lot of more businesses types, items etc. I would pay for DLC like that :)

This is a surprisingly really good game, i was hesititant to get it in the first place judging from the store page but glad i did and i definatly recommend it. The entire city is purchasable and interactable either as a customer walking through the shop isles to choose what you want or a real estate mogul picking your next target. The only downside i found is while the game transitions from early to mid-game really well with you going from buying from a wholesaler up to importing and even producing wares at a factory, mid-late game there isn't really much to do for your character. Once a store is setup how you like and sufficiently supplied it runs itself and doesn't need your input anymore so it becomes a waiting for more money (or to pay off ur current loans) to take over the next store and fit it out then back to waiting again. I think having a reason to go revisit places like doing a monthly inspection that boosts producticity because the boss is checking up on you would help or maybe even board meetings at your HQ you have to attend once at that scale. I also can't help but think that the phone menu shouldn't pause the game unless you press the pause button to tell it to. But genuinely those are my only concerns on the whole game and they are minor, it is a really good game and the freedom to drop your own music/signage in and customise so much of how you play is great.

It's really fun and has content for many hours. It does lack some late game content though. You just slowly get to a point where you can't really progress anymore. The whole factory part is still lacking adjustments to be usable. That's a really big feature waiting to be fixed. Also some sort of way to expand outside the city would be nice. It's a game I could start all over multiple times for trying out different approaches if it wasn't for the lack of late game stuff. The whole blueprint and layout features being added is nice enough, but doesn't add to the lack of late game content. I prefer gameplay over visuals. I still have my hopes up for any upcoming updates. I would even be willing to pay for a good DLC. The game is worth the money.

Big Ambitions is, fittingly, a very ambitious game. It offers a ton of freedom and depth, with an impressive amount of things to do. That said, it definitely requires patience—there’s a learning curve, and it takes time to really understand how everything works. The game is packed with info windows, menus, and panels, which can feel overwhelming and even frustrating at times, especially when you're just starting out. If you're willing to stick with it, there's a lot of rewarding gameplay to be found. Right now, it’s still in Early Access, and the developers are actively working on improvements, which I really respect and appreciate. Personally, I’m waiting a bit longer before diving back in, but I’m excited to see where it goes.

Its an incredibly ambitious, almost Sims-like (mostly focused on running a business) game. Its incredible how much the developers cram into the game considering this is a relatively small team from what I can tell; and its at a great price too!

Excellent so far! I love the amount of control I have over each aspect of my businesses. The obtainable "to do list" and freedom on how to obtain financial goals is motivating. The graphics are good, the expanse of the map and interactions with countless buildings keeps it interesting. I also enjoy doing things such as running down streets with boxes on a hand truck if I don't feel like taking the subway or cab. I look forward to more updates.

This game was my jam for a while. It’s really cool and interesting, especially if you like economics games, inventory management, and that whole style. I’m personally not a campaign player, I prefer creative mode. I’m sure the story is cool, but I don’t really enjoy the grind in games. Based on pure content and where it’s at now, it’s worth the buy. The developers update it frequently and listen to feedback. 8/10

gameplay loop is very stale, 88mins and i feel like i've experienced the entirety of the game: rent a business -> stock shelves -> ffwd time -> repeat obviously there's more to it with elements like employee management and expanding into different business areas, but what's the point of expanding if it's the exact same loop? there's no distinction between selling cheap gift shop knick-knacks or fresh food - it's just a box and maybe a different display model. the life sim mechanics are interesting but feel like they were tacked on to give the game the illusion of depth. what's the point in me creating a character if there's no social aspect to the game? so i could watch my character sleep? ultimately the game just lacks any sort of depth. once you've played for an hour you've pretty much done everything - all that's left is to do it over and over and over again.

Game is a simple loop, no challenge. Just open a store, stock it, hire employees, etc. and then rinse repeat as you make money. That is it. I don't understand how there are so many positive reviews and I wont be so trustworthy of them in the future.

Fairly polished but very tedious and grindy. Looking for what exactly is the game "simulating", the randomly spawning customers that disappear into nothingness as soon as they leave through the door of your store? The game just loves to throw unnecessary time-consuming tasks at you, just for the sake of role-playing. The gameplay loop itself is repetitive beyond belief just after an hour. Buy shelf, buy product, sell product, sleep, repeat. There's a large variety of types of stores you can have, but what's the point if it's always the very same loop, just a slightly different looking product? Plus, who the heck enjoys "energy meters" and "hunger bars" in a sim management game? It's just meh.

This game is not challenging at all — everything you do generates money. Go and play The Sims instead — it has smoother gameplay.

This game has a long way to go before it becomes playable for me. The biggest and most glaring problem for me is not having a basic tutorial which most descent games will have so you don't have to fiddle around for hours trying to figure out how to use the basic interface. The next is not having more control over the view point of your character. You can only pan the camera left and right and zoom in and out a little bit. They need to add the ability to pan the camera up and down a little so I can actually see where I'm going. The camera controls are enough for me to put this game on the shelf and it will not come off the shelf until these things are added. Considering asking for a refund.
