Well, an extra 22 hours and 20 new achievements later I still love everything this game has to offer. This DLC has been an absolute pleasure to play, my personal favourite of the three new classes being the Plague Doctor (With the Necromancer being a close second). The endless mode is challenging yet rewarding, allowing you to max out your inventory and truly test builds for the late game. The farthest I've managed is Floor 47 on the Golem whilst playing Difficulty V and the build was really fun to make and I ended up doing over 300k super-crit damage with some weapons, with the rest easily putting up 6 digit damage numbers too.
The new gem system is really intuitive and lets you change and augment your builds to do things that weren't possible before and can enhance weapon and summon stats even further. Speaking of summons, they are another great addition to the game and open another avenue of gameplay. The design of each summon unit is unique and interesting whilst besides the turrets they all have a blue sheen to them so you don't get confused on who's friend and who's foe.
There is also the favour system which is another neat addition, allowing you to modify aspects of up to 3 weapons and summons on a run that could greatly increase your builds power and your enjoyment. Alongside this is the ability to banish up to 5 items from the loot pool per run so you can get rid of any items that you have no desire to use and are stopping you from getting the powerful items that enable your build.
The only issue I've had is during a Plague Doctor run in the original tower I got to Floor 40 and the game spawned thousands of enemies at once, including outside the arena which cause my game to drop into the singular digit frames, which I thought might be the original tower not really being meant for endless mode but it may have also just been a bug.
Now to the pricing, when this DLC was announced I saw a lot of people complaining about this being a paid DLC, even though the game is £4.99 whilst having at least triple that value in content in my opinion. I was happy to pay for the DLC, expecting it to be along the same price point as the base game. So I was pleasantly surprised to see it was only £2.49, even better was the bundle of the game and this DLC was discounted as I already owned the base game so it ended up only costing me £2.24. Now if you're one of those people who equate an hour of in-game time to £1.00 value then I've got 10x the value from this DLC at the time of writing this review, which is insanely good.
I will keep returning to this game and trying out new builds and trying to get further in the endless tower and I do hope there's more DLC in the future that will add more fun content and achievements for me to hunt for. If you own the base game then getting this DLC is a no-brainer. and if you don't own either and are a fan of Rogue-likes or something fun and casual but with a bit of challenge then I can't recommend this game and this DLC enough.
Final thoughts:
This is a must have DLC that I have loved every second of playing 10/10!
