Please note this review is temporary until they patch the game and fix the issues I will mention in this review. The Good: - I like the graphics. - Cool manga story in between the missions. - The atmosphere is very good. The Japanese vibes pop off! - The map is cool with many tight, winding, mountain roads. The Bad: - Traffic is sometimes wayyyy too dense, especially when doing an underground drift session. It sucks to lose money because RNG acted like it's rush hour... in the middle of the night. Also, the roads are too tight for the amount of traffic the game generates sometimes. I feel this is a bug, cause it usually happens on certain parts of the map and you will see a long string of cars all of the sudden. - Handling feels off sometimes (understeer while drifting outta nowhere). The Ugly: - Driving in the rain sucks the joy out of this game. It's like driving on ice and you can't control the drifts anymore. Verdict: I really, really want to like this game, but I'm gonna wait for a few updates. They really need to fix the handling issues.

This was a great game until it was updated. The games main story now has segments that are censored. I purchased this game before the update, I am a consenting adult, and i don't appreciate a developer treating its customers like children. Change the rating if you have to, but this is some of the crap from developers that people cant stand. Don't censor, or rewrite your game stand by it. They made something beautiful, something that is fresh, and new. To me its tainted to change the story to satisfy the easily offended, or because they realized they couldn't sell it to a younger audience. The racing is great though, they nailed the driving, the sounds, the music. I want to recommend, but they took a part of the game away after it was already purchased. Now i'm sure a watered down updated version will come. Update. Thank you for your response. Unfortunately all you did was solidify what i said in your own carefully chosen words. I went ahead and spent the extra 5 dollars for the supporter pack. Started up the game and what do you know censored lol. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling what do you know still censored. I hope you enjoy my 5 extra dollars though.

This is the most weeabo game I've ever played. Polish devs made a game about a polish guy that goes to Japan to drive cars and bang Japanese girls. 10/10

Game is fun but flawed and with more time it could be really good. For a little team it's definitely worth the price imo, but it has some big issues atm. Graphics are great, runs fine (but I have a 4090), no suttering on my rig (it's an UE game). Playing with a wheel is very hard, I'm not really good in drifting and I had to practice for like 2hrs before winning the first race (and setting the game on easy)... this shows my main issue with the game and that's the balance : you are thrown in a race with a bad car and no experience at all, it's very frustrating and it keeps happening. After that you get your own car and you have to do a Drift contest, except your car is stock and almost can't drift while your opponent has an overtuned drift car... you can see the issue. The AI is also really bad, traffic or opponent it's the same. Apart from that, map is gorgeous and varied, finally a game with real narrow roads. It might be the best map in any arcade racing game (played most of the others). Lastly OST is glorious, eurobeats is so good it feels like I'm in intial D. Love it !! Recommended.

Nigh on unplayable with a wheel. I played for 3 hours, tried so many different settings and it was just impossible. The accelerator is either way too sensitive or not sensitive at all. The steering is either snapping hard or the most sluggish thing ever. Yet to play with controller but I bought this game to play it with a wheel. Disappointed at the moment.

Fun Casual driving game, love the graphics and drifting. I dislike the racing parts and wish it was only focused on drifting personally. I will be honest I skipped every cut scene and I am not in to the story at all but I just like driving around its cool. Don't take this game too seriously and you will have a good time. I have only played on controller so I have no insight into the racing wheel complaints I am sure they are valid they just don't apply to me.

As much as I enjoy this game, I can't get over the amount of crashes I've gone through and no settings have helped it. It could be 10 minutes, or it could be an hour before my game crashes. Sometimes I'll just be driving around, other times I could be in a race where I placed a large bet. I've lost so many credits just due to crashes that I've completely avoided the races you bet on. This game eats up RAM like it's nothing too. I want to enjoy this game because when it does run, I'm having a lot of fun but I just can't. No other games have crashed this much for me recently. Unfortunately for me, in the current state, I can't recommend it.

I highly recommend this game if you are into drifting and want to drift in a fictional japanese map with Japanese cars the Developers are very active in responding to feedback of the game especially when it comes to troubleshooting issues game still has many bugs but aside from the minor bugs the game is enjoyable also has a great story so if you love JDM? and you love Drifting? this is the game for you

Super fun game. Drifting feels great, and the Japanese setting just hits. It’s easy to jump in, cruise around, and throw down clean slides. The fact that it has real licensed cars makes it even better, just adds to the vibe. Definitely worth it if you're into the scene.

Old a** racing games player says: The game is not perfect, but it is so fun and relaxing to just go drifting around the map with any car. At first the physics seemed a bit too specific, coming from playing Forza Horizon 5 the week before I bought this, but you can get pretty used to them, quickly. You can encounter some bugs but none of them have been game-breaking for me, and did not make me lose any single race. I did not expect this game to have lincensed car brands, so that was an amazing surprise (Except for Mitsubishi :c) Updates roadmap seems interesting. The main story could use a bit more freedom of track routes, sometimes different "street circuits" seem too similar. Thanks a lot for all the people involved in this, as I had it on wishlist for a long time and it did not underdeliver at least for me! Unlike some X Street, which surely did get a refund.

The story? Meh... The grip races? kinda suck/are pretty mid but the drifting man.. its amazing. And thats what you should expect from this game. I played it on controller so no idea how other stuff feels but on controller the drifting just clicks with you after a few hours and it feels better than in any other racing game i've ever palyed not even close. The music also slaps so thats a plus. Its simple really.. if you wanna drift you buy.. if not you don't. Oh and turn off the traffic its annoying as fuck.

For the short positive review. The game has a lot of nice aspects such as environment, car variety and overall sound. For a small company this is a great game with hopes of improvements in the future. The long regular review. I think the first chapter is just to hold people on the game past the return window because it just give you a lot to take in with very few ways to make money. There are only two things you can do. A race in the main story and sushi runs. Although the environment is great, the ai vehicles ruin the atmosphere as they appear out of nowhere and in some cases will stop in the middle of your path. One match I was racing to deliver sushi and the same road I had just used to get to the shop was suddenly stuffed with cars. Some were stopped in the middle of corners and others were stopped at T junctions. I tried to speed through but I had to restart and when I did, all the cars were just gone from the map. I also had a situation where I grabbed my phone and put it on my desk and when I looked up there was two cars blocking me from leaving my house. Like it knew I was there and just stopped them in front of me. The variety of cars that take queues from actual carmakers are great but the sounds they produce, although powerful, are devoid of lows and mid to low frequency. The sound they product is that of something that a low quality mic would pick up. Some cars don't even sound like the original but the sound is alright. The cars also have an issue with realistic RPM limits. Like the subaru's having a rev limit of 6.5k but they sound like they hit 4k. Or the RX7 clone going 7rpm when the irl limit is 8rpm and it absolutely kills the ability to hold drifts without wringing it's neck. The bugs I faced were crazy weird. One situation I tried to get into a race and the framerate dropped from 90fps to 40fps and then hung there at that exact number until like 10 seconds later and I got back to 90fps. Or the time I had a betting match and put half my money only to lose it because I alt tabbed to message a friend and came back and then the game went windowed but at a small screen. And when I tried to bring it back to windowed fullscreen, which it was, it crashed. Came back and money was gone. I'm gonna try to get a refund but I doubt it 3 hours in.

JDM: Japanese Drift Master is an absolute gem for any JDM or drift fan, tbh for anyone who loves arcady racing games. The driving feels great, the open world is stunning, and the vibe is super authentic. I especially love that they included the Mazda RX‑8 – it drives beautifully and looks amazing. The manga-style story is a nice touch, and even though it’s not perfect, I’m having a blast with it. Highly recommend! PS: The mostly licensed cars are a hugeeeeeeeeeeeee plus!!!

Fun game but like others have stated, still not fully developed. Mad fps spikes at certain areas and lags. Drifting is ok, time and drag is definitely not ready. Still early but hopefully devs can continue to update and possible online in the near future? Still a lot to work on.

There is a lot that I like about this game. I love the map as we rarely get open worlds with very tight roads like this. I also like the drifting, as it feels really good. Also, having some cars be actually licensed is really cool to see. However, the reason why I can't give this game a thumbs up right now is optimization. I'm losing my patience with so many games running poorly, and while JDM isn't the worst, it also isn't great either. Currently, I'm running at 4K, all high settings, with TSR upscaling set to quality. Yet, I'm still getting dips below to around 40FPS in some spots with pretty consistent microstutters. This game does look good, but not good enough that it should be running like this. Also, the loading times seem abnormally long too. Here are my specs: OS: Windows 11 Pro 64Bit Storage: 2 TB Samsung 980 Pro SSD CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X GPU: GIGABYTE Gaming Radeon RX 9070 XT OC Motherboard: GIGABYTE X870 AORUS Elite WiFi7 Ram: Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR5-5600 CL36 I hope that there will be optimization improvements in the coming updates because the game needs it.

Game is beautiful. Driving is good but the physics are definitely arcade based. I'm a grown man with kids so I could definitely do without the anime ladies, but I haven't had this much fun playing a racing game since I played need for speed underground on the PS2. PLAY WITH A CONTROLLER NOT EVERY GAME IS A WHEEL GAME. I have a fanatec podium DD2 it works but not well, that being said though you can tell from the moment you start the game that it is not designed for it. This is a GOOD racer with a GOOD(ish) story and some decent drifting (USE A GAMEPAD). I hope the devs keep working hard on the game and I'm super excited to see what comes in the future and I would spend another 30 to experience the game for the first time again. Keep up the good work!

This game is bad. The physics are clunky. The pacing and choice of story missions are truly insane. Often leaving you with an akward choice. Do a frustrating or bad (usually due to the outrageous AI behaviour) race/drift mission to move forward. Or go do side content that can't help you to make the bad story mission less frustrating in any way. The AI is so under baked that most of the ingredients are still in the cupboard. The story is nonsense, not a big deal if it played well but it definitely does not play well. The overall vibe here is great. The visuals are messy but charming and the music is good. Unfortunately as soon as you pull out of the garage the disappointment begins and never stops. 2/10

honestly thought the game would be better but it is what it is. I played the beta and it was alright, but it should be really priced at half as much. Pedal sensitivity recognition is awful, 20% pedal pressure and im red lining, ive done all sorts of tweaks to wheel and pedal settings but literally feels the same no matter what ive done. You can spin out going 4mph wtf and the tire grip feels like im ice skating half the time? Maybe in the future when wheel and pedal physics get better it might be worth and sure the game looks awesome and its japan but unless you play on controller it's not worth it IMHO

The game isn't very good, the mechanics suck, same to the npc, just awful at driving. Some missions are suuuper tedious like driving your busted car for a very long time without being able to teleport, or drive a shiddy lil cappuccino and get 60k pts in 5mins... on a mostly straight road. Just dumb shid like that

I dont usually give negative reviews, I really tried to like this game. The graphics are crisp and the environment beautiful but the most important part of the game: the car controls was terrible. The car doesn't turn for nuts and its almost impossible to start a drift with a controller. Perhaps it might be easier with a steering wheel but I bought this game expecting to play it like an arcade game. If I wanted a simulator, I would have gone for the Gran Turismo series or something along those lines (just my personal opinion). Until the developers fix this part, I suggest not getting the game.

great game in concept, great drift mechjanics and great graphics. however, i got stuck inside a fence and no way to respawn and lost 400k yen in a bet race. never gotten a better score than D in sushi missions because all the deliveries are at random places on the map and dont allow you to drift because it sends you on the long straight roads every time. this game is not ready for release. EDIT: this game is garbage. if i tune a car it starts losing grip at high rpm and it wont change gears and no control over the car. this game is a waste of fucking money

game is amazing. anyone complaining about handling issues just has a skill issue. the game is way less arcade feeling than nfs. its a nice balance. if you love old nfs games like underground this is a no brainer. you must try. i played a full play through the first 4 days the game came out playing all day and had almost no issues i can remember. (leaving a late review sense i last played). i was able to tune my cars to my liking and the game had some interesting mechanics to work around. some racers are slow and get a lot of drift point some are fast and get alot. you kind of have to see what you need to build your car for and tbh i had a great time doing it. if you consider yourself a true racing game enthusiast you will appreciate what this game has to offer.

Just as expected, polish people know how to drift. The physics are pretty good and enjoyable. However I realized that my personal experience with polish programmers remain mediocre and can be generalized. They are probably having an infinite amount of abstraction layers in their code, which makes them take 10 years to write hello world because they use 10 thousand functions to abstract it completely. The loading time is outrageous (even for restarting a race you just did). I have a Samsung SSD 990 PRO with Heatsink 4TB (top notch NVMe SSD) and it reminds me of load screen in GTA V prior to their update (at the time I didn't have an SSD but just a good old hard disk). I spend more time loading than playing :') hit me up if you fix the loading times (send me a video with proper benchmark metrics). until then, refund.

I waited until I had a full free day to play this because I wanted to give it a fair chance and a good review, and here's what I have to say. I see the vision. I really do. I do like this game so far, however in its current state I wouldn't recommend it. The physics do this thing that every modern racing game does where it's too stiff until you snap. I don't understand why it's so hard these days to just make a racing game with loose, flowing handling. Sushi missions are frustrating between the mediocre physics and the big heavy car they give you. Also the Initial D reference on the livery isn't cool, original or funny. I think it would go a long way letting you use your own car for deliveries. Maybe you could automatically have the delivery sign put on top of your car? Speaking of your own car, as someone else has already said, the one they give you is too sluggish, I understand the point is to build up a crappy car into a proper drift machine, but this is a bit of a joke. HUD sometimes disappears after leaving the smartphone menu. You have to go in and out of the map to do it. The Mazda RX-7 redlines at 6K. Sometimes if you hit a traffic car you get stuck on top of it and lose valuable time. There is no way to reset your car in the sushi delivery missions and you can sometimes spend minutes just teetering on top of a Nissan Micra. The map sometimes just doesn't let you set a destination. Very frustrating. The UI is far too slow - on the first delivery mission a prompt came up forcing me to change radio station - I ended up crashing into a wall trying to change it back to the one I wanted because it scrolled so slowly. Other UI elements also suffer from this. Some of the car models look pretty bad. The S15 Nissan Silvia isn't even on a stock body kit. I don't know why no racing game can't get this car right. However, it's not all bad. The soundtrack is good (I'm hooked on the rock station, can't speak for the other genres on the radio) and when you're in the groove of things chaining big drifts and blowing by traffic on the mountain road, it feels just right. It's a good vibe. Having played it a bit more I'm also hooked on the story, and the physics feel far better when you're used to them - but still too stiff. I can see the whole game having potential. A lot of love has been put into it. I want it to be so much better than this because I know that the dev team have clearly been pouring their heart and soul into it. But having said that, until it's streamlined, tweaked and properly finished with a good release, this is going to be just another dead on arrival shovelware racing game set in Japan and fueled by the naïve hype of 14 year old Initial D fans on the internet.

Well, it is a ride. Before the review, I feel I need to mention that I have finished the game. I can't say it is perfect, but TL;DR, I'd say it's worth to endure the downsides. ESPECIALLY for the price. PROS: - great customization - frequent updates - some decent JDM cars (even some of them are licensed, which is a surprise for an indie studio) - good choice of music to drift to (thats how you do it, Forza Horizon) - good *drifting* physics - honestly beautiful and large map CONS: - poor optimization. forget about playing on older gpus. - the story feels incredibly rushed after act 2. I literally had no idea what happened at the end - I had issues with my controller not working at all (despite it being supported as an x360) - brakes feel waaaay too weak. I can accelerate faster than decelerate - grip physics need a change - the comics, at least for me were sometimes confusing. Even with the reading help option, the amount of characters that are in the story, and all of them being black and whitem you just get lost after a while who's who. Not to mention the
fight between the Scorpion and the American dude
just made me feel like I'm a background character honestly, lol. - some gameplay need testing. For example, food delivery missions are often making you go back to a place you have just been at, and driving to the other side of the map for 5 minutes and then going back the same way is frustrating. Some events force you to catch up to an enemy AFTER you had a drift event, and maybe that's a skill issue, but I always had to go back, change to a grip car, somehow beat the drift event in it, and then do the event. just kills the vibe. I honestly think that for the price, this game can with some updates be one of the best indie racing game (and maybe even racing game) out there. There might be a long road ahead, but I do have hope in the devs. My rating (at the moment) : 7.0/10

A flawed but fun game. The good: Fairly solid physics Accurate cars Gorgeous and detailed open world The bad: Buggy in places Poor story writing Lack of end-game content At the moment this game feels like it should be an early access title; poor AI, numerous graphical bugs, lack of liveries, general lack of content (especially post-career). But, a lot of love has clearly gone into this title and if you enjoy JDM culture, drifting and Japanese touge it's definitely worth picking up.

Honestly this is such a hidden gem of a game, i've always longed for a racing/car sim game based in a Japan setting or even Japan-esque. This really scratches the itch of not only placing the story (which is honestly surprisingly deep and eye catching even while being told through manga pages) in that setting but also really capturing the feeling of the street car culture. The cars included are mostly cars you will see in a street racing culture scene and the modifications you can apply to them are the most advanced ive seen in any game without mods even doing whole Veilside+ kits, although i wish they would've had time to acquire the licenses to more brands like Lexus or Toyota. Regardless you can still slam, race and drift them around tight corners and beautiful landscapes as much as you want. Only things missing imo are minor things like wraps/liveries, running into other racers on the open road and like i previously stated more cars, all things i believe they said were coming down the road so i will be back to see the progress later. As of now, amazing game and it only plans to be more so later.

After waiting months for this game too release i have to say that i'm impressed with the overall feel and vibe of the game! This game finally scratches the itch a lot of us players have been wanting for years of a open world racing game being set in japan. Playing this game for a couple of days now i still have high hopes for this game to be a masterpiece but the bugs and flaws on some of the cars and with the world in general it kinda draws a disconnect from fully enjoying the game. Taking into full consideration that the game is still in early development i keep my cons on this game too a minimum because the developers are taking actions on the bugs and flaws that the players are experiencing and i'm very great full the developers are hearing us and taking action to fix the issues! this game is a breath of fresh air and i'm very excited too log on and play and progress through the campaign plus see everything new the devs have too offer!

Dev promises steering wheel support. Actual wheel support is currently not great. My entire playtime has been spent trying to fix a nonsensical and pointless toggle that defaults to on and cannot be turned off for my Fanatec wheel. If I wanted controller and keyboard assists, I would play with a controller or a keyboard.

I've been looking at getting this game for a while now, I finally pulled the trigger because of the Steam sale and I'm so glad I did! The vibes are awesome, the Japanese countryside looks amazing and the roads are perfect for drifting. I like the concept of the story being told through the pages of a manga, it's something unique and nothing like I've personally seen before. The selection of cars is large enough that most people interested in drift and JDM cars should be able to find something that excites them. The car customization is great, Plenty of options for rims, body kits, and interiors. Also tons of options for the performance of the car so you can tune it into your own personal drift missile! The missions that I have done so far have been fun, though the first couple I did with the first car you buy were kind of torturous just due to the lack of performance in the car. I personally did a fair few of the sushi delivery runs to save up enough money to upgrade my car, which made the first car much more enjoyable to drift with. The game definitely has a bit of learning curve, but since it is more of a simcade game the curve isn't too steep and I was able to get the hang of it after the first couple of hours of driving around. Highly recommend this game to anyone that is into cars, drifting, and JDM goodness! CURRENT RATING: 8/10

If you’re using a wheel to play the game and struggling with oversteering, don’t worry! Head back to your garage and check the car setup — do you have too much toe-out? Are the wheel alignment angles too negative? Try resetting to default, then fine-tune things step by step to find the best settings. Still having trouble? Well… this game has some mods that might help. Add some money and get yourself an R34 — I bet you’ll change your mind instantly! Have fun! It’s a great game — the street scenes are really authentic, If you’ve ever been to Japan, you’ll know exactly what I mean. It's probably because I grew up watching "Initial D" that I feel so deeply connected to this game. I've played all sorts of racing games--Forza, GT, AC...but none of those ever given me the same feeling as this. After finishing Event 8, I'd like to say, this game is the best racing game I've ever experienced!

Great game so far! There's occasional frame stuttering when entering an unrendered area, but I haven't had any crashes or game breaking glitches. I'm happy about that. Devs took what we wanted from the Forza Horizon series and executed very well (not perfect yet, mainly because there's still no photo mode, multiplayer and the ai being a little too aggressive with ramming into you if you are near it, at least I've had it happen quite a bit in my almost 10 hours of playing the game which will mostlikely get fixed in the near future). Have high hopes for this game, am willing to wait and hope they can make it Perfect. So far I'd give this game a 8.5/10, it's not perfect, but has potencial and one of the few car games out there with an open world version of Japan. Playing at 1080p Specs: i7 13700k, 4070 super, Z-790 P Wifi, 32gb ddr5 ram, using a cheaper gen 2 nvme 1tb ssd

Really really wanted to like this game. But there are too many glaring issues. Its clear the devs ignore optimization and performance and solely relied on upscaler's. They force them on, including forcing TSR which ruins image clarity, and the scenery that is Japans countryside (Inaka -田舎). First of all the brain dead AI. You can't bump into them but sure as hell can bump into you and force you to lose points and bonuses. Most of the time they dont even try to move out the way, and just drive straight into you or rear end you to fuck you up. Streets are way too tight, yes its realistic to japan but there needs to be a balance between play-ability vs realism. It leans way too much into the realism aspect and with the traffic density being over crowding, it tends to be even more tighter than it needs to be. Sushi missions. Love this but they give you the most shit car to play with. Yeah its a challanged but it understeers too much and has the most shit handling for drifting "Ah yes my father was a racer and knows cars" proceeds to make the most shit car. Story is luke warm at best and feels like a 14 year old's fever dream after watching Initial D. Love the references but the story and manga is.... needs some heavy improvement. Love the story being told via the manga but needs some heavy work. Played in both FP and 3rd person. First person needs some heavy work, as the camera orientation and automatic movement is too heavy and you easily lose where you're looking at. 3rd person is great and feels smooth. Inconsistent geo. Meaning some fences look breakable but are not and the same model is used interchangeably which causes you to think "Oh hey this can be broken" but you end up slamming into it. Sound effects are great and feel accurate to the location, and the music variety is great. Major cons. Forced upscaling and TSR which ends up making everything a mess and blurs the hell out of the image. Shadows are way too dark and gives a blochy look. FPS and optimization needs heavy work in this department. Phone. You constantly get messages but you can't clear them after reading so you have to wait for them to clear before being able to see the mini map. Also you cannot change the scale of the mini map. Until improvements are made i dont recommend it. Story shows a cop stating that he will arrest you for racing/stealing companies vehicle but... there is zero cops in the game, so... it kind of makes the open world feel less important and more of a back drop.
