Workers & Resources is worth the money. (And was cheap until they got a publisher.) Biomes wasn't worth the money, World Maps wasn't worth the money and Early Start isn't worth the money. The developers put so much love into the game that they now want to be paid for all the pain. But they lost the track, I guess.

Overpriced, underwhelming. Custom maps maps made before the dlc are not able to be played on early start settings unless you go into the map folder and delete a nearly empty file called settinglock.ini. Users should not have to delete files to make the game function as intended.

Amazing work on the latest updates guys! Actually listening to the community and implementing them fast! *cough cough Paradox* Sure there was need for improvement and fixes, and you'tr listening! (I feel like I have to restart a new game each update though ;-; but that's ok!) I do wish there was more variety in building sizes, just so you can start smaller from a tiny town and build up slowly, instead of having to have everything down pat, and possibly a function that you don't need a heating plant for early start houses/houses with chimneys. as you could supply them with coal at either the grocery/store (that would be a cool feature!) Glad to see more in the future!

I'm a big fan o this game. I like the content of the DLC. I want to support the game. But its far to less content for this price. We need vehicels from the 1940s, we need western vehicels and we need more ships expecally for rivers. And we need pavement from cobblestones. We need newspaper. And sorry guys, this is not Early excess annymore, but this DLC was not ready for realease. I hope it will be better in future

Although I love workers & Resources, I simply cannot recommend this particular DLC. Yes, it does add new buildings and vehicles, but most of them were already available in the workshop and were just slightly polished in this release. Many buildings still don't have a early stat equivalent and the vehicle selection is very limited, specially in the 1930 start. For instance, there are no new factories for fabric, clothes or food and there are no new resources. The steam trains function exacly like diesel trains, only with coal instead of fuel. This isn't to say that the DLC is bad, just that it leaves a lot to be desired, specially considering the prince. Previously, i would have recomended this, but as all releases up to now have left things to be desired, I can't keep turning a blind eye.

early start is a bit highly priced for what it feels like you get, but it is definitely a new challenge to build everything once and then have to upgrade it later. The old food factory for example has the same footprint as the newer one (from the 1960s) but less production. This means that you have to lean even heavier into the idea (from the base game - though most people don't realise it) that your republic is never finished it is always evolving and you should be constantly tearing things down to make them better

I REALLY wanted to like this DLC and since the dev has been working on the game for so long purchasing this feel justified, if not for supporting the devs. Sadly though, the contents brought in the game from this DLC is frustrating. There are a lot of things that I feel is necessary to be changed. 1. If you start from the earliest date (1930) you will be forced to suffer using extremely slow vehicles early on to do your building projects. As the year progressed things will get easier and by the time you reach ~1935 or so things will be much better. EXCEPT a few extremely important roles like the harvester and dumper. The dumpers you get are all small capacity and you will get used to seeing a very long line of dumpers queueing on your gravel loading facility. The soviet also won't have any harvesters whatsoever, so you're stuck using human labor for harvesting purposes, severely limiting your freedom in placing the farmlands. Due to this, some maps (like the empty asian map) becomes outright hardcore survival challenge since you will not be able to easily build roads that connects both western and soviet. 2. The cars and stuffs in the middle of those years are horrid. I've been playing until ~1943-ish and I've been stuck with all the vehicles that I got before 1935. Since all the vehicles are so slow I'm expecting rapid improvements with the technologies but NOPE! Honestly it's a disappointment and despite the advertising it felt more like I'm buying 1930s expansion, because frankly there's barely anything new introduced for the 1940s and 50s era. Because of this you're stuck with waiting for the better times to arrive. 3. The older buildings that are introduced in this new DLC honestly looks really great in my opinion. They look more classical and the government buildings tend to look grander with the bricks, greek-style pillars, and all that fancy decors that reflect the times. HOWEVER, they tend to be worse in "performance" compared to the modern ones, like smaller garage capacity, fewer staffs, etc. Because of this, the beautiful buildings become permanently obsolete once you reach the vanilla timelines. THAT, IMO, is a horrid game design. Some of them are terminally bad, like the stone quarries will not have any aggregate conveyor capability (eventho you still have access to aggregate conveyors...). At the very least I'm expecting that we should be able to refurbish the old buildings to have similar capabilities to the modern ones.

The whole early start concept is awesome but the execution is lacking. The animations are janky, routing in new buildings weird and overall it just doesn't feel like there was much if any testing before shoving it out the door.

Mediocre launch, being made better with (currently weekly) updates. With the addition of brick roads (good!), I recommend buying the DLC (if you like the game) at full price, otherwise wait for a sale.

Tho it has some animation problems, I think overall this DLC is worth it if youre bored of starting the game so late (in the 60s and later) so I would recommend to people who already have some hours played on the base game

It is already well-known that the devs have limited (workers and) resources and have to rely on external modelers for additional buildings and vehicles. Therefore, what you pay for in this dlc are the extra mechanics like the steam trains and brick roads. I'd like to give it a neutral review at best but any positive review is an incentive for them to continue supporting this game.

There were some issues on release of this DLC, but they are clearly showing it the love it deserves and it is now worth a look.

Early Start feels like Early Access. It's on track to be a great addition but it's not finished yet. They're still actively adding things in with patches so it's going to get there eventually, but there are still some big gameplay gaps. If you get it, plan on a lot of hunting through the workshop to round out the experience.

Ever since I installed this DLC, my game crashes trying to start a new game. IT always crashes at the initializing vehicles part, Fixed this by A. depopulating the maps, and B. changing the vehicle selection to lock according to start year, (rather then all)

1 month review. Not cooked enough, needs more time in the oven. Updates are flowing, which is good, but most of the stuff thats being added should have been in from the start. Wait a few more months for the rest of the day one fixes to come through. But then, it has steam trains. And you're gonna buy it for that alone. Fair enough.

Very good, the prices & everything feel balanced, steam trains are amazing and can be used up to late game, this introduces brick roads & path ways, the early vehicles are a bit tedious but at the same time it forces you to plan out closer to the border, early industry buildings & scholar ones feel very natural.

No new systems, lacking vehicles for certain play styles. Overall, this DLC could have been put together by a mod pack. I was hoping for additional game systems like self heating houses, the ability for houses to boil their own clean water, things that would help small early villages to not require the full infrastructure of a modern city. I'd pass on this one unless it's deeply on sale and you want a good "modpack" for early starting.

Effectively doubles the historical Soviets timeframe and allows a decent republic by 1970s even with realistic mode enabled. A bit pricy, but that was one of the longest-requested-for features.

The DLC is good, but I wouldn't call it 19,99€ good. It adds some challanges, new vehicles (steam train for example) etc but you could probably mod it just as well. When it's on sale, it's worth it. But not at full price in my opinion.

I genuinely do not understand why this DLC has got such a negative reaction. Could it have more vehicles? Sure. Could it have a few more features more aligned with an early start? A game could always have more features. However, there are so many cool new buildings that are a lot more than "reskins" as some people have put it, as well as steam engines. A constructive comment is that the "old" buildings should maybe be even more inferior to justify demolition and construction of more modern buildings, but that's it. I have no idea why people are saying this feels like "early access". What are you waiting to be implemented or what is so terribly bugged? It's also not exactly a massive price tag. I don't know where everybody shops but it's basically the price of two meals and a coffee these days. I recommend it as it adds even more to an already great game.

I bought it to support the devs. I haven't yet played enough 1960 starts to really use the new features, but I like the new (old) buildings. I'll be building some artificial history into this 1960 start. There's always value in vanilla.

In saying that you might as well skip this dlc and just use the mods from the workshop that make this dlc up, while true, are missing a significant value add. By them being in a dlc instead, the content will be kept updated and functioning into the future without having to rely on solo modders alone.

I wish I could leave a mixed, or neutral review. As I can't I have to recommend against this DLC in it's current state. While I don't regret my $20 spent on this DLC I don't think it's worth it, should the lovely people ad 3Division correct my issues I'll gladly change my review. My issues are as follows: October Revolution wraps up in November 1917 and the fledgling Soviet Republic solidifies it's power in 1923, our earliest start date is 1930. I'd like to see a 1910 start, although I'd settle for a 1920 start. Research dating doesn't make sense, why lock a tech upgrade behind a 1928 start date when we are starting in 1930? If we had a 1910 or 1920 start date I can see the reason. Yet as stated above we don't have one. In the same vein, why does the electrified railway come after concrete tracks? Unless my history and google-fu are incorrect they weren't invented until WWII started to cause problems for supply in the 40s. If they moved electrified railway before concrete and added wooden electrified railways, this wouldn't be an issue. That said the devs at 3Dvision are listening, and I'd like to cross these out with a date and patch note number. They added brick roads to replace asphalt roads in the early game because there was no real good way to pave roads before 1950s. They've been adding early start versions of various pieces of infrastructure to match both the earlier aesthetics and to give there more reason to research and redevelop your earlier cities. They added animations to the steam locomotives, steam motor wagons, more trucks, ships, and train cars after the DLC has released based off of player feedback. Thus in short if you like Workers and Resources: Soviet Republic I would wait for either a sale or for the DLC to finish cooking. I hope to be editing this review soon.

I've also put in over 1,000 hours. It's lacking content; I would have liked narrow gauge. I'm not going to cry like a baby about the price. I hope the game becomes more complete, and this is a way to show support. Although I'm against politicizing games and punishing countries, it only takes away from the essence of the game: it's a game. May he who is free of sin cast the first (atomic bomb) stone!

Now - first and foremost - I need to make it clear: Despite this review clearly stating "I do NOT recommend" I do NOT - in the slightest - regret my purchase. I have been playing this game since the rough early access launch and I trust the developers to handle feedback well. However, there are a few things that I feel the need to get out of the way: >
If determined, and armed with a couple dozen mods,
what this DLC does could be achieved for free and with a more customizable experience. The mechanics this DLC introduces are - as far as I'm aware - steam train mechanics and a date lock / research lock on buildings. >
The absolute baffling issue of this DLC
for me is how it came out missing important vehicles to fulfill all roles in the early years. It's a display of utterly confusing lack of attention to detail - something I did not expect from these devs. >
The amount of content is okay... -ish.
I can reluctantly accept this price with a 'maybe get it on sale' recommendation, but I do sincerely hope the devs do not proceed as they did with Biomes and do in fact take a moment to polish and especially expand this DLC. I will wait two or so more months, and if they indeed will have patched the gaps and - for lord's sake - added some of the missing iconic vehicles, I will be able to call this a confident recommendation. If you do not care about supporting this game like I do - you might as well keep your money a little bit longer.
