Sol Cesto is a hidden gem for roguelike fans. Simple at first glance, but every item, every path, and every choice can mean the difference between surviving or dying in the most ridiculous way possible. the art style is charming, the sound design fits perfectly with its quirky atmosphere, and the gameplay is both challenging and addictive. a light, fun, and surprisingly deep experience

Really fun and innovative way to do a dungeon crawler. The game is a bit short in it's current form and can pretty easily be beaten in 2-3 tries, but it is still really fun and I look forward to the next update where we hopefully get some more content. Just to be clear I understand that it's in early access and that it takes a while to make new content, just wanted to let the devs know that the game is good :)

Sol Cesto is an enjoyable, balanced, surprisingly deep roguelite tactics game… but the art style takes it to a whole new level - a truly unique blend of Gilliam’s Monty Python art, rubber hose cartoons, japanese oni prints, underground comics, amongst many other things. A totally original, deeply weird, and very charming vibe - I love it!

Absolute uniqueness both in gameplay and artstyle

As of July 2025, the game direly lacks variety: not enough enemy types, not enough consumables, only a single boss throughout the first 2 biomes, and the teeth do not feel unique or exciting. The gameplay is original and very easy to pick up, but it quickly feels shallow and repetitive. The updates would need to add A LOT of content before it would be on par with classic roguelikes.

Okay, I want to qualify that I don't think I'd recommend it *now*, but would probably be happy to in the future after a few more updates. Right now the actual gameplay is just too simple and repetitive, even for early access. If the devs add in more variety I think it'll be strong. Also, google Felix Colgrave if you like the art.

It's interesting, but still a lot of crashes. They should make it more stable. Very buggy. If you get the tooth that kills a monster every 2 health points gained, it could soft lock you so you can't play anymore moves to move on to the next level.

gameplay is a lot like some free mobile puzzle game you could download anywhere, but but but but but but holy fucking shit does the art have some heart and soul to it's cartoony with this grim and ugly look that's covered up with the charm that shows up in tons of tiny details and man i really don't know how else to explain it other that its charming all the best example of this is how enemies all have two different forms their scary form when they will deal damage to you and their quivering in fear form

Really good bones. I beat the early access version in about 6 and half hours and unlocked all the stars. I look forward to playing some more as it gets updated.

Good very but short game. Buy when game is updated. Grinding gold to unlock content is EXTREMELY cringe of the devs imo. (carrot on a stick tactics instead of working on making the GAMEPLAY engaging) Like I already paid for the game, just give me the game. (All unlocks option??) The most outrageous examples of this being: - the first run you will encounter multiple empty floors that just tell you "nahnahnah! You gotta unlock these." Feels disrespectful(?) when you expect better of indie devs. Would be better to just not show them at all, but feels like the devs were scared that players would think there was no content in their first run (but then just give the player the content!!) no way to even get items (passives or consumables) in the first run - having to unlock the actives of the characters in a separate unlock? (characters already being the most expensive unlocks)

I don't get the overwhelmingly positive rating for this one. It's... fine, but that's it. The "teeth" which are basically the artifacts or passives, are... well, just small % changes that compound. The items are fine. You can interact with the shopkeeper and there are some neat easter eggs but that's... about it. I don't see any depth so far, it's pretty much a casino with not a lot of content and the characters are wildly imbalanced. The enemies who are supposed to switch sides every other turn only work half the runs (and maybe that's on purpose too?). Again, not a bad game, but the overwhelmingly positiive rating there is VERY deceptive. The game is just OK, I'd strongly suggest waiting a few good more months before spending money here. I'll check back later to see what is added since it's too late for me to get a refund myself.

Great art and game play loop, not too frustrating and a nice incremental unlock system.

The artstyle is worth the price alone. but thankfully the gameplay is addicting enough to keep me coming back to this. Even after trying to put it down I still keep thinking about it, I bought it today and I've sunk about 4 hours into it already. Sadly not too much content in the game yet since its still in early access, but I can see that I have quite a few more things to unlock still. That being said I'm excited to see what new content is added in the future.

this game is great, its simple, the art is amazing and its addicting. honestly for the price and to support the devs/artists go ahead and buy it and ignore the negatives. however something just doesn't quite hit the mark for me. I'm sorry if I am just pointing out issues, without providing solutions... but I just feel like I need to voice my concerns. - balance issues, keep in mind maybe I suck and I'm missing something but I don't think I am I see others expressing similar views. [list] [*]Seems pointless to be anyone other than the knight unless you just want a challenge. [*]Magic feels useless to invest into. most enemies are physical attack until later levels. Teeth could potentially balance this by increasing the odds of landing on different squares but even then the odds of getting good teeth early on and surviving until then feel slim. also if a majority of enemies are one type, which seems to happen often, increasing the odds of landing on a different square has little to no impact. [*]I feel like characters other than the knight need something more to balance their weaknesses. for example, the warrior is cool, but missing the 1 magic point makes early makes small magic enemies early on a massive a threat so its already a hard choice to start with compared to the knight who has the same attack level and a single magic point. I think adding more health is the attempt at balance, but I have never really struggled with health of the knight. ( I die faster with the warrior anyway making sacrifices ) Seems like the idea is to use items to counter this since she has the ability to not lose them sometimes, but that seems to happen rarely and items are somewhat unreliable to obtain if you are trying to save money. in other words, as the warrior you can blow you starter items to get through some of the first magic enemies, but you usually lose them quickly and left without any help between shops. I would think rather than a chance retaining items on use, they might be able to generate an item on chance to help counter magic enemies so when your down on your luck you still have a chance. [*]I feel like teeth need more effect in play, a lot of them are minor and don't seem to pay off very much. for example, attempting a magic run, hoping to use teeth to balance out the number of physical attack enemies to magic. best you can do is just lower their attack by one most of the time or increase the odds to land on better squares, eventually if you get far enough with tough enemies lowering their attack by one wont help and it only lasts a turn so if you can't capitalize then its a fart in the wind, and if there are just more physical attack enemies (which there often are) changing the odds have little effect. [*]bosses are way to easy and both existing bosses are basically the same boss. Once you figure them out the battles are often a boring and winning is easy if you just follow a pattern. [*]items kind of feel like a waste of time sometimes unless you are desperate to stay alive and you don't care about saving money. item values seem confusing too. some high value items aren't very good compared to cheap potions and arrows which are very helpful. -some annoying bugs. I keep having a bug happen where I click a line and then a different line is selected instead. has happened in situations where its a life or death choice, and I thought I was losing my mind. Kept thinking maybe there was a enemy with a ability to mess up my choice, but was not the case as far as I can tell. Just had one happen where I was the wizard, did my special ability and selected two squares to activate, then suddenly my guy went to a completely different square and gets killed. -playing the game fast seems to bring out bugs more, you can often click things before animations complete, which feels like cool speed run tech, but then the game kind of lags out and odds things can happen like clicks not being registered or the bug above with the wrong row.

On the surface it seems like a straight forward game about luck and playing the odds. Then as you progress you realize that with a little strategy, the odds can be bent. The art style, music, and sounds are all very well done. If you are even a little interested in trying it then I would say give it a go - you won't regret it.

The art style and music are top-tier and unique, the gameplay loop is fun, it's not completely luck-based, and some strategy is required by the player. I got my money's worth in the first run.

Excellent game so far, has a lot of promise to get even better. Grateful that the developers seem very involved in the discussion forums around the game, taking critiques and implementing changes as needed. Will definitely need some light changes to balancing enemies/certain heroes you can play, can't wait to see what the later stages of the game play like once they're added to the game!

I have to admit it took me while before the game really clicked with me. Best way I can put it, it's a weird game but in good way I like the idea of a strategic dungeon crawler with roguelite elements. Which I think sets it apart with luck like factor gives you that element of fate. Combining all of that give's an interesting game that you keep want to come back and play. Mind you the game is still in early access but even in its current state it is still very fun to play so it's a 9/10 from me.

I REALLY love the artstyle and the odds management gameplay of this. It's super fun and I'm looking forward to see more but unfortunately the game feels a little content light for now, especially if you're good at it. 4 hours and a little over 5 runs in, I already beat the last available area for now. I do still recommend this game because it's a lot of fun and I have no reason to believe it won't get finished but that comes with a warning that it's not yet a rogue-like you can sink dozens of hours in.

This game is wonderfully appealing to me, with great visuals reminiscent of 1973's Fantastic Planet, somewhere between Mobius and the Voynich Manuscript. Simple yet very elegant mechanics. I also love the gaudy HUD, reminscent of point and click adventures from a few decades back, with multiple little animations put into everything and even simple things like donating coins or using the shop having a layer of interactivity to them. Saw it on the store page and was sold on the visuals alone; really glad I took the plunge. The enthralling gameplay and amount of care put into each detail make it worthy of high praise. Definitely recommend

The gameplay loop is very interesting. Even though the game looks like it relies on luck in the beginning, the more you play and the more you understand you musn't ever rely on it. It's the trademark of good strategy roguelikes games. The game has quite some game breaking bugs that can ruin good runs. It's still in Early Access, so I won't give a bad review for it, but it has frustrated me horribly to lose good runs to bugs. I hope these will be solved soon enough

Really enjoyable but it slows down a lot in the mid game. With it being so luck based there is only so much better you can get. I actually don't know how to progress besides grinding it out. Some of the meta progression needs to be permanent upgrades to starting strength or something.

Pretty fun, but after few hours starts to become same-y. However, artstyle and vibe are absolutely on point - the first time I ripped out teeth out of the totem I was amazed that after bajillion rogue-likes... there's still original ways to come up with upgrades. Sadly, the teeth gimmick quickly becomeS boring since majority of them just tip the odds which space you will land onto. (the metal totem that gives more unique upgrades also feels quite bland) Meta-game progression also leaves a lot to be desired - essentially, you just farm gold from runs (which you have to stash whenever you encounter the well, similar to how you would stash items in Hall of Torment.) Yes, there's this guy who will give tips and secrets about stuff but ... it's decent at best. Right now, I'd say 12 EUR is way too much of an asking price, since there's enough content for like.. 5-8 hours tops, before things become really boring. I've beat my first run after 3.5 hours and I am already done right now - I just don't see the point grinding the gold (others may find that fun, so it's entirely subjective) Overall, as most reviewers will utter the most important sentence: ItS jUsT LiKe SlAY da SPIre!!!111

As a developer of another high risk & high reward roguelike with a tinge of RNG, this is an amazing title to consider with a lot of potential and replayability. Luck based encounters with items, powers and unlockables focusing on the odds is such a good combo. After a bit, you need to focus on strategic moves, but the more you risk, the better the reward at times. I won't comment much on the lack of content, since I reached level 80 in 3 hours already, since its an early access and stated as such. Seriously can't wait for some new updates! Mostly I'd like to say that there needs to be a bit better balancing, since I tended to aim with one path with the knight being the strongest of the three choices ( 3dmg 2magic ) and it being the most favorable option, since prioritizing magic at the start was a bit difficult to get past most enemies, and base stat upgrades are generally rare. Keep it up with the game! I love it!

This game really should have just been a story or art book, because the game-play itself is not fun. It feels incredibly under-baked and lacks actual variety. The teeth are next to not fkn useful at all, and honestly just not interesting. Yeah no, don't buy it unless the devs take the road map a little more seriously. The hot fixes shouldn't be treated as if they are large updates, bc they're not. Even for an early access title, this felt extremely unfinished. I love the art style, not the game-play.

Oh yeah, I know this is gonna be gooood. The art style and delivery and mood is immensely cool, leaning into horror without being straight up horror or scary. But holy moly, the adrenaline some of the animations/transitions give me wasn't expected from a game in this genre. Makes me wanna cuddle up in bed in a good way. Will update as I play more! Session 1 was amazing! UPDATE 1: It's amazing! Only gripe so far is that you can't save a run, returning to menu deletes your progress, so you must finish a run or leave the game running once you get in there. Not the worst in the world, but as a player of Slay the Spire like games, I am used to being able to take a break whenever I want. UPDATE 2: It's even more amazing! Who would have thought. Took me this long to reach the "end" of the early access. I'll miss the feeling of wondering how deep it goes, but I can wait for full release. It will be hard to stop myself from playing, tho!
