Vampyr is very much a hidden gem. If you are a gamer that enjoys story and heavy narrative games, this is the game for you. Heavily narrative driven where each character is wildly unique with their own stories and ties to the world, you are thrown into the mix where your every action can affect the world for good or bad. I personally toed the line in my play through and it was a very satisfying game where I had the temptation to bite and eat many of the citizens (some did get chomped!) as some of their dark secrets made me stop in my tracks so it was very much a game of morals and thought and even when I thought I did something right, the game was very very very quick to humble me, which is something I really appreciated! While the combat could sometimes be a little annoying as I am too impatient for my own good, once I slowed down and paid attention to the characters telegraphs it becomes significantly easier and quite simple. I cannot recommend this game enough, the story was gripping, the NPCS gripping and genuinely it was fun trying to play the wolf in sheeps clothing.

I never really heard anyone talking about this game, and I feel like it's seriously underrated. I only discovered it because it was often on sale, but I don’t regret my purchase at all. I wasn’t expecting anything extraordinary, yet the narrative and atmosphere truly surprised me, to say the least. It’s a fantastic game, and I appreciate it even more considering the price I paid. An amazing experience!

Vampyr is an interesting game. Being one of the few vampire-centric games on the market I decided to give this title a try and what I can say is that I've enjoyed my time from start to finish; that isn't to say this game is flawless by any means. I'll start with what I like: this is a very story-rich game which delves heavy into the drama aspect of being a vampire and deciding on who you will consume and when. The difficulty of the game is directly linked to how many citizens you 'embrace,' with gameplay becoming substantially easier the more people you eliminate. The catch with this system though, is that the amount of XP derived from someone increases based on how much you get to know them, with hints unlocked through dialogue, side missions and so on. As you get further into the game and immerse yourself into the story you begin to weigh your need for power over taking the lives of the characters you've put so much time into. Me personally, I would seek out the 'bad' people over the more gray characters and take them off the board, which doing so affects the stability of whichever city sector you're in. There is quite a bit that goes into deciding who to embrace and when. In my first playthrough I got morbidly curious and decided to remove everyone from Whitechapel, making it an anarchists wet dream. It boosted my power to a pretty crazy amount, but by doing so you embrace the 'monster' aspect of vampirism. The atmosphere is also stunning. While the graphics are nothing ground-breaking, the gothic city streets of 1900s London serves well to immerse you into the world, coupled with the game's amazing OST. The soundtrack for this game is phenomenal. Vampyr makes heavy use of Cellos and Choir to accentuate the drama of whatever scene is occurring. It really helps to sell the already fantastic line deliveries from the voice cast, which for the most part did an amazing job. As for things I wasn't too fond of: the combat is really hit or miss. Apart from the dodge mechanic, everything felt so clunky and I often found myself skipping combat altogether near the end of the game. There are some cures to illnesses which I just could not figure out how to create, so I would have patients with migraines lasting for days which lessened the XP I could obtain from them. I'm not sure if I somehow missed a blueprint or not, but it was a problem I faced. The final stretch of the game felt so rushed to me as well. I didn't feel like we got much time with the Ascalon Club and then all of a sudden I'm nearing the final battle of the game and its over. Overall though that did not impact my enjoyment very much. I would take an ambitious AA game over mediocre AAA slop any day. I would recommend this to anyone who has a vampire fix and are at a loss at which 4 games they should try, this is definitely worth your time. Story: 7 Combat: 6 Vampire mechanics: 8 Pacing: 7 Overall: 7/10

Great story, great atmosphere, great characters and the list could go on. I can't understand why this game is just a "mostly positve". I was pleasantly surprised how good it is.

Story seems to be interesting but combat is kinda badly designed and the dialogue choices are pretty poorly explained. The only way to know what a dialogue option does is by googling it. If you don't and you make the wrong choice? Well just RESTART THE WHOLE FUCKING GAME because there is no quick saves or manual saves, just auto saves. Btw why do loading times take an eternity? Im using a Radeon RX 7600 XT which should be far beond the recomended card

"Vampyr" is a vampire themed action adventure/rpg build on the decision of drinking your allies dry or sticking to your human nature. "Vampyr" is also, and this is true, quite bad. The gameplay seems to be inspired by soulslikes, but lacks everything that makes soulslikes fun (rewarding exploration, huge interconnected maps, enemy variety, boss variety etc.). Not killing your "friends" will always keep you on the weaker side, which isn't bad, but the missing enemy variety and higher level enemies just being bullet sponges, that kill you with a sneeze, make this incredibly unfun. The dialogue, if you can call it that, as it mostly consists of the main character asking very mundane questions, will put you to sleep in minutes. The choices and decisions have little to no relevance on the story. Expect the big choice, whether or not you want to fight your murderous vampiric nature, all other story choices end up not mattering at all. I lasted for 20 hours until I got stuck at a seemingly impossible boss. He was higher level, did way more damage and despite playing pretty optimaly before, doing all side quests and upgrading to the highest weapon damage, I just couldn't keep up. Eventually I realised that it just wasn't worth the effort.

Still one of the best modern vampire RPGs with a strong narrative focus. This is really a hidden gem, as the visuals have stood up to time and the game still looks great. When this game gets a deep discount (currently 7.99 as of writing this, 80% off) the game is remarkable buy.

This game has incredible atmosphere and puts a lot of emphasis on the NPCs and their interpersonal relationships. That is the main appeal of the game, in my opinion, and it did that really well. If you choose to consume a person, you will have to think about the consequences it will have on the whole district they belong to, and their relatives/friends. And you will also have to consider that, to get the most EXP from consuming a character, you will need to unlock all the clues about who they are... and you can find yourself surprised that some people you first assumed to be just terrible, "oh I can kill them without guilt!", might actually make you reconsider as they turn out to be peple you might sympathise with. And vice-versa. The music is top tier. I'm speechless trying to explain it. The OST for the hospital (in many ways, your main district) is so special to me - many times, you'll find yourself coming back there from unsafe streets, and hearing that calm and melancholic tune when you approach the hospital still gives me chills. On the things people might dislike, however: The game will have you running around a lot. Back and forth between districts. This might be frustrating to a lot of people, especially because the game doesn't have a minimap (very odd decision from the devs). I personally like it, it adds to the atmosphere every seems to like about this game. Knowing districts and their shortcuts (and also each character's different locatios) like the back of your hand is part of the experience. You also have to accept that the main character, Jonathan, is not you. You don't have a lot of room to manoeuvre his personality around. It's the main criticism I'd have: for a game that centers around making decisions about killing people or not (none? just one? a few? many?), it doesn't provide a lot of changes in the main character himself. Although, you can easily just view him as a cold blooded killer who destroys entire districts while still pretending to be the nice, helpful doctor. Overall, a very memorable game in my opinion.

Rough around the edges. The combat can be janky and the morality system, though interesting, can ultimately be ignored by crafting a strong weapon. Consequences of choices also seem random at times, and the voice acting is sometimes shaky. But I finished it so like. It was pretty fun.

The combat is a bit generic, but the story and choices you're presented with are what really drives this game imo. You really feel presented with the consequences of your chosen path through each interaction, slowly uncovering information on those around you. Highly recommend if you enjoy dialogue and story driven games, although I'd recommend trying to snag it when it's on sale!

I have mixed feelings about Vampyr: There are definitely things to appreciate here, for being an AA effort it tries its hardest to punch above its weight, however there's an unfortunate lack of focus and polish in several places. These are mostly related to the gameplay though even the story is dotted with missed opportunities and hanging plot threads that aren't satisfactorily resolved. The game starts off well; what begins with a straightforward search for answers over your vampiric condition quickly evolves into facing a pandemic, degenerate creatures stalking the night streets, and the human population trying to purge an early 900s London of your ilk. It doesn't take long for your character, Dr. Jonathan Reid, to be dragged into these conflicts while trying (or failing to) keep your fangs free of innocent blood. You soon become part of something greater than just yourself, with players from both the living and the dead looking into this mess, each with their own goals and agendas. It is an enticing hook and an interesting setting, so what's with the Not Recommended? Gameplay is what turns Vampyr into a frustrating experience, as the developers built its combat with a kitchen sink approach: We have a stamina system for attacks and dodges, which feels decent for single combat, yet the game likes to throw multiple foes your way; these enemies don't like to play by the rules either, they have infinite stamina / blood and employ cheap tactics and abilities without giving you respite. Additionally, there are issues with the level scaling and RPG elements. I understand what the developers were going for, you have to struggle and feel tempted to give up your morals if you're not draining the townsfolk dry for EXP, but it's cheap to fill previously traversed area with levelled versions of the same enemies you've just faced a few hours ago. It is also annoying to have them respawn everywhere in the city each time you rest to refill your consumables and level up. It's a mechanic made for Souls and adjacent games, and there it should stay. The game also features a crafting system, and the results of its inclusion are not wholly positive. Having to scrounge resources for medicine and consumables feels in tune with your profession, but why are weapons also included? There's a time and place for incremental systems, and this isn't one of them. It doesn't feel good to upgrade weapons to see them deal a little more damage than before. These are issues I could ignore if the narrative remained as solid as in the first few hours, unfortunately there are hiccups even on that side: NPC dialogue is often wooden and stilted, the camera work is mediocre (it even lacks a simple shot / reverse shot dynamic), the facial animations rigid, and even some voice performances don't feel up to the task. There are interesting story elements pruned before they could become interesting, and a baffling romance with a character that comes out of left field after being critical of her actions before. Most of all, I am disappointed with the way Vampyr doesn't let the pillar characters breathe past their dedicated chapter. You often deal with them in the one they're introduced in, a wasted opportunity in my opinion. I don't feel confident recommending this game to others. I put up with it since I generally like vampire fiction like Vampire the Masquerade, and there are familiar elements to be found here, but the bad really tests your patience and willingness to look past its flaws.

A decent game; I like the variety of weapons and abilities. I guess the variety of enemies could be bigger tho\ If you choose not to eat everybody -- you're gonna suffer hard, cuz the scaling in this game is quite unforgiving -- a regular mob one shot me with his one special attack cuz he's like 10 level above me; the game turns into fighting 'mini-bosses' everywhere XD

A história do jogo é bem boa, interessante e me prendeu bastante.

I got this game on sale for around $10, and if I'd payed any more than that for it, I would not be recommending it. Wait for it to go on sale - for anything more than the price of a fancy coffee, the atmosphere alone is not enough to salvage this title, and for me that was the best part of the game. In the entire game there's around seventeen different enemies, including all bosses, which include all variants of the twelve or so generic enemy types. You fight the same goons in the intro escape as you do in the final missions of the game. Combat is fine and enjoyable in a button-mashy type of way, but simple and repetitive, especially with the limited skills, combos and enemies available. Dialogue is where the game falls flat, entirely. In the beginning of the game I was paying painstaking attention to each branch of each character's dialogue tree. By the end of the game I was clicking and skipping through the cutscenes. Too many of the characters are too boring to care about, and the lack of an ability to skip through individual lines of dialogue to circumvent the sluggish voice acting is a huge detriment. (The space bar skips to the next character in the conversation's lines, potentially skipping several lines between). Most characters are oafish, aloof, or needlessly rude to the point that I wished I had no need to get to know them before murdering them - XP gained from sucking on blood is tied to your knowledge of the character. The story is more or less a big fat nothingburger. The familial tragedies were forced and awkward, and the romance was laughable and weightless. You play as a one-track, one-dimensional workaholic who has to save the day. Overall, it's just okay. Buy it on sale. PS. I tend to leave games running and walk away from my computer for hours, or even days at a time. I would estimate that a playthrough of this game would take between 15 and 20 hours, in spite of my larger hours played.

Vampyr is a game set on post-WWI London. The story revolves around Jonathan Reid, a doctor famous for its blood transfusion studies who's turned into a vampire. The story revolves around fighting the epidemic that's decimating London, while also dealing with the vampire threat that haunts the city. The gameplay itself rewards you for exploring and finding secrets, while not preventing you from rushing through the main questline. Should you take your time to talk with your neighbours and explore enough to know your sorroundings, you will find a complex and rich story behind most of the citizens, which by the way are extremely well built. While most vampire games are focused on either combat or story, Vampyr is able to blend both into a very interesting combination. The game does a great job stimulating you to go for the sweet red nectar that flows from citizen's veins, while pushing you through moral dilemmas every so often. You are absolutely free to make your choices, provided you're also ready to face the consequences of your actions. You can be a saint, healing your communities while resisting the urge for blood. You can be a stalker, killing only when you need to further develop your vampire skills. You can be a merciless killer, draining every last citizen of their sweet red nectar. In Vampyr, every life you take isn't just an NPC. It's a whole character with deep development, relationships to other citizens and importance to their own community. You aren't a predator who seeks victims in the wrong place at the wrong time. The way you choose your victims severely impacts the world around you, as well as your very capability of fighting off your enemies that lurk in every corner. Story-wise, this game delivers great development. It keeps you in the dark just enough to make you want to learn more about your maker, the vampire society, the epidemic, your allies and your enemies. There's no point in which you can precicely predict what's happening in the next few minutes. Combat-wise, it blends in good aspects of traditional RPGs. You can develop your skills and build your combat strategies as you please, from an arsenal of melee weapons, guns and shadow or blood powers
(which you can develop through tough choices...)
Overall, this game was extremely fun to play for both the story and the combat. I'd give it a 9/10

I seem to find myself itching to play this game time and time again. The atmosphere is absolutely breathtaking. The music, oh my lord. I always start my playthroughs with the intent of being the Good Dr. Reid but end up getting the bad ending each time cause I enjoy turning people way too much. I will say this game does have flaws, and my main irks are not having a mini map or some abilities just being downright useless. It can be a challenging game if you don't keep up with upgrading your weapons or abilities. I will say, turning an entire district can be nearly heartbreaking especially if you accidentally do so. This game can be VERY unforgiving, which I think is why I come back for more playthroughs. I have this game both now on Playstation and steam and I think they both play the same. Try it out! Its a great game not only for a dark, rainy night but also a normal, less rainy night.

Great story, like seriously nailed it. I think the combat is best suited for controllers but thats personal, also the RPG choices are impressive and leveling your vampire and weapons feels fun. 10/10 is hard to give out but this game gets a solid 8/10 at the very least.

Vampyr is... a mixed bag. I think the Steam rating reflects the game pretty accurately. Off the bat, answer this question: Do you really love vampires? If yes, this game is worth playing. If no, pass it. Vampyr is fun because it's one of the very few games of its ilk. But without that? It's a pretty bare bones RPG with a fun premise, okay execution, and poor pacing (seriously, pacing feels like the biggest writing issue. I wish we saw more of the main characters, understood them better by Act III and IV. I feel it would have made the story praised rather than varied by player). The setting? Wonderful. I love history, I love horror, and I love vampires. In theory, this is the game for me. The music? I love it. Its composer, Olivier Deriviere, is now all over my music playlists. Gameplay? It's... something. It feels more fun in the beginning before the level design becomes so punishing that you feel forced into a specific playstyle. The combat feels fine until it grows repetitive; I wish they took the time to flesh it out better and fix the jank, because I can tell they intended for something more in-depth but unfortunately, for whatever reason, this wasn't realised. It's a shame. Combat is a huge focus in Vampyr and it's the main thing people dislike. Had they fixed it up, I know this game would be a bigger title. Dialogue is another mixed bag. I personally didn't find much problem with it besides it being very bare bones and sometimes repetitive (really wish they scripted at least one other greeting and parting dialogue between characters. I understand the expense, but it would have helped a little bit). Unfortunately, that is a problem in a game that advertises your choices and how you interact with citizens. It has the bones to be a very fun, interconnected web of a detective game (I wonder if it's Pathologic inspired?) but it falls flat in fleshing out characters enough for us to want to keep speaking to them. Besides Swansea. I actually liked Swansea. Hampton was also alright. [strike] Why didn't do you the same for Elisabeth?? [/strike] At least the investigations are pretty varied and, while short and done for meh characters, aren't a slog to get through like some AAA game fetch quest. Wasted potential. I'm glad I find enjoyment in the game, and I intend to continue playing, but a part of me will always feel a bit robbed of what could have been a unique and excellent vampire doctor x detective x bit of Bloodborne game. I hear the game is abandoned, but on the off chance that any devs read this, please. Make a Vampyr worthy of praise. A remaster, a sequel, or something totally unrelated by a different team, I don't care, I'm desperate. And also hire Jonathan's actor again because he is excellent and I need more of his voice. Here's to hoping The Blood of Dawnwalker is the vampire story RPG us monster lovers have longed for. Edit: I wrote this review bitter while still attempting a no embrace run as my first time playing this game. While nothing I've said above was exaggerated, eating a serial killer made it a bit more enjoyable. If you're considering buying the game, go ahead and get it while on sale. I still don't think it's worth it at full price, but it can be a fun experience otherwise. Forgive me.

Boring and derivative of better vampire games. Fight the same enemies over and over again with the same boring weapons and same boring game play. The world is repetitive, no real creativity or art form, just an asset farm dump and yes boring. The graphics are noticeably outdated for when this game was released. Considering how empty and cardboard cut out the world is I'm surprised the graphics had to take a hit for it. The story was meh at best. There is no replay ability here. I got it on sale, I would have refunded it if it did not cost the price of a star bucks coffee.

This is my second time playing through the game and I am enjoying it far more than I did the first time. I'd rate it a solid 8/10. The core story is very good, I always enjoyed it and I still enjoy it this go around. It's got a wonderful cast of voice actors as well, which really brings the story to light. Jonathan's voice actor is my favorite and he has a wonderful range of power/emotion. I always preferred the "No a Single One"playthrough. It makes the game and being a good person a struggle, which I think is an interesting take on a peaceful run. To be at a disadvantage because you are merciful makes it more engaging and you have to really hunt down those quests, further investing you as the player into the world. You care more about the characters because you must upkeep their well-being to not fall behind. The combat has always been middling, but considering when it came out, I cannot really complain too much. It can get repetitive and when you are playing on Hard mode while being a pacifist it truly can be difficult. But since I have been enjoying Soulslike difficulty of late, it wasn't too bothersome. The combat can be clunky, but once you figure it out its just another aspect of the game. I do think they could have done more with this, a better morality system, better endings, and maybe your choices truly impacting every character. As it stands only choices with the "pillars" of the community changes anything, the side characters have quests but no consequences to how you choose to do them. All in all its a good and fun game. In today's economy where every game comes out looking like an underdeveloped AI pile of garbage, its a breath of fresh air.

All around solid vampire third person rpg. Good story, likable protagonist and interesting characters, great atmosphere and choises have consequenses. Doesn't reach the heights of VTMB, but what does?

Game had potential, yes, enjoyed the first few hours. But later on, it gets quite boring, slow and repetitive. Concept was quite unique, and yes, even story seemed to be a bit philosophical. I could not personally complete the game, but maybe it might suit others. Still, it is not really a bad game, but forgettable. Honestly i kind of wasted my time with this game. It does not save any potions after you die and the boss regenerates at 100 health while your blood meter is brought very low only enough for like 2 heals they put you up against bosses that are way higher level than you and yes that does matter because you can only do so much especially with Doris boss she is without a doubt the hardest boss could not get past her without the shield ability and it took so long and then the skals she summons are always in the way and you end up dying to them a couple times and they do a lot of damage for level 1 i was level 22 when i went against Doris and it was painful to do movement could be better and you have to heavily rely on ability especially ultimate i suggest if you get this game before going against Doris to level up as much as possible to level 30 or close to or else you will have an extremely difficult time with her i do like the story and voice actor for Reid its just the combat and movement and bosses that could have been better.

This door won't open from this side. This door won't open from this side. This door won't open from this side. This door won't open from this side. This door won't open from this side. This door won't open from this side. This door won't open from this side. This door won't open from this side. This door won't open from this side. This door won't open from this side. This door won't open from this side. This door won't open from this side. This door won't open from this side. This door won't open from this side. Honestly, this game has pretty good atmosphere, interesting story and lore. But boy everything else is just terrible. Clunky and stiff combat. Awful keyboard and mouse controls. Use a gamepad instead. Boring enemies. Terrible level design. Poorly communicated progression - you will not have access to certain zones till certain points and you won't know that till you google that, because there are a lot of closed doors to different quest objectives that create illusion that you in fact can find an entrance. Choices also don't really matter nor have any effect. And when the game turns into walking simulator, circling around quest objective, trying 50 different locked doors, it just loses all its charm and becomes grating instead.

Struggling to complete this game. The music and atmosphere is incredible but the combat is so boring. The other 60% is talking and fetch quests.

Vampyr is a unique mix of action and RPG set in 1918 London, where you play as Dr. Jonathan Reid, a newly turned vampire trying to balance his medical oath with his thirst for blood. The story’s intriguing, with a heavy focus on morality: do you heal people or feed on them? The combat can feel clunky at times, but the world-building and choice-driven narrative really pull you in. It's a bit rough around the edges, but if you're into dark, atmospheric stories with tough decisions, it’s definitely worth a shot.

I had a great time with this game. Having lived through the covid pandemic, it's also really strange to play this and realise it was made.... before. I wonder how weird 2020 felt for the people involved in the making. o_O So, yeah. You're a doctor and you're wandering through edwardian pandemic London, which is a great way to put blockades and walled up houses everywhere. To give a eerie atmosphere. Sometimes the camera annoyed me, but other wise, a good time. I am pacing myself and not restarting again so soon. But I'm really hoping there will be a second one.

Bought this in the summer sale but even at that price not worth it. Given the look and feel of the game thought it was a contemporary of Vampire the Masquerade from the early 2000s but actually dates from 2018(?) so very clunky and no where near as good as the former despite VtM's bug infested nature. Most annoying feature is the rubbish explanations as to how to equip items and the very old-time feel to melee. Yes, you can go on YouTube and research 'how to equip a gun in Vampyr' (lots of videos) or alternatively not bother and find a better made game

I see them, but don't care about the flaws... the immersion, the ambiance... The whole thing is just exactly what i did not know i needed. Amazing
