Run, don't walk, far far away from this game. I should have heeded the warnings of the negative reviews on this game, but the positive reviews had me giving this game a chance.
I understand that this is an early access game, but this feels like the "dev" is in pre-pre-alpha stages here. There is zero direction in this game, nothing that grabs you and gets you invested. You have to immediately change the graphics settings from default because it runs extremely choppy. You have to think out of the box to navigate any menus, there's no guidance on how to find any resources, nor how to craft or build.
I'll give it this: at the very least the crafting mechanic is intuitive enough to figure out by clicking through, but there's no mass crafting. I.E. if you want to craft some rope and you have enough resources to craft multiple, oh well. You're going to find yourself clicking what you want to craft, clicking and holding to craft ONE of the item, clicking to take the item you just crafted, and repeating the process.
Oh, you crafted a hammer to build? Fantastic, let's not use it in any meaningful way. The building mechanic is extremely clunky.
Another positive, you can find guns and ammo pretty quickly in the first little town you see (I didn't explore to see if there was any other towns). The looting mechanic is god awful though. Boxes of 9mm are labeled "resource" and the entire time you don't know what you are picking up because there's no descriptions on any of the items. Sure, you can click on them to see what they are, but only after it's in your inventory, and only if it's a named asset.
Someone said they were able to put down a sleeping bag that was named "campfire," this game was so clunky and ugly that I couldn't make it that far.
I bought this game because it was on sale for under $10 thinking, "Well, if it's not fun, at least I'm not out a bunch of money." I think this is the second time in my life that I ever requested a refund. I got 42 minutes into this game before I finally tapped out, and at least 5 of those minutes was trying to figure out how to close the settings screen so I could quit. I may not be a smart man, but I do know it's common sense that if you hit "esc" to pull up/close a menu the settings menu should close as well, Jenny...
And yes, this game will make you feel like you are Forrest Gump without the loveable qualities and impressive running speed.
