Well isn't this a charming little game? It's a bit of a combination of an idle game and a small business simulator.
You run a vending machine business, starting with just one machine in a very basic location. You need to clean (and keep clean) the area whilst stocking your machines. As you earn money, you can improve the look of the area, add to the varieties you stock and expand into new locations.
The game will run in real-time if you let it, which also combines with being able to pin it to your desktop and just leave it running in the background, with an occasional glance from you. Or you can accelerate time and play it more actively. Back on the Palm Pilot PDA, there were a few games that ran like this - games like Plant Tycoon and Virtual Villagers. These were wonderful casual games, before mobile phones came along and monetised these to become something less. Vending Dokan is a return to this style of pleasant casual gaming. It's all very ambient and charming.
The game is in Early Access at the moment, which is normally a turn-off for me. But I played the demo and found it sufficiently appealing that I didn't hesitate when the main game was launched. There's lots of things missing from the game at the moment, but there's enough there for an enjoyable time as it is.
It's a very simple game, but there is some depth to it. How you choose to decorate your locations and the amenities you provide will bring increased custom, but perhaps you ought to concentrate on increasing the number of machines you have, to bring in the bucks. It's up to you. There's no time limit or countdown; you just play as you please. Every now and then you'll have to click to restock a machine and wipe it free of finger smudges as well as ordering stock. And that's the majority of the game. Many will find it too slow and simple, but I rather like it.
I work from home and it's nice to have something to tab into from time to time for a little fix of relaxation. You can hire staff to help out if you like, try to pet a wandering cat and all sorts of other things. But there's a lot of functionality missing at the moment. But the core game is there and it's solid. And it's enough for me. If in doubt, get the demo - in which you can try just about every aspect of the game. This is my favourite game this year.

Game is overall good in concept but needs more decorations and more vending machine types. In 3 hours I already unlocked everything and probably wont turn on the game again for a while. Maybe add gachapon machines, stamp rally posts or anything else for the npcs to interact with.

I'm a terrible human being but even I enjoyed this a lot. Sometimes you just want to exist with no bigger purpose than seeing a number get bigger. I always wanted to own vending machines or a laundromat, but here in Sweden we go neither. Do Japain? Have Laundromats? That would be nuts, I'll move in next to Pewdiepie and open my very own laundromat filled with vending machines and arcade machines from the 90's. It will be great I tell you what. Oh who Am i kidden, having dreams? LOL

Finally! About time somebody makes an out-door-scene idler. I love Spirit City, but I want to do cyber-outing as well. The rain, the people activity, the kitty, the vibe, everything's perfect.
Best idler, screen saver, shop management, business sim, decoration, ambient sound combined in one. Please add more locations, more items, and optimization.

I skipped a therapy session to play this hidden gem — and honestly, I feel way better.
No regrets. 10/10 would self-medicate again.

This game is a cozy little gem. It instantly makes you feel like you're walking down a street in Japan, setting up vending machines under soft lantern lights. The art is adorable and every detail feels so warm and cute. It's relaxing, easy to get into, and just satisfying to watch your tiny kiosk grow.
Something I would love to see improved: builder mode could use smoother navigation.
I’m excited to see what new items and features they’ll add next. <3

The functionality of the game is very limited, staff management barely does anything other than cleaning the machines, promotions are bugged and do nothing when successful, overall I understand this is early release, but I would say wait longer for them to implement more. They released this way too early.

Its only what i could describe as a LoFi game. Its chill, with chill music. I love it. There is a lot of customisation of your locations and the machines in them. I didnt play with that so much, as i was more interested in the "sim" aspect.
The issues come with many Early Access games, in that there isnt a huge amount of content. Yet. Ive had my fill after a few hours or so. Thats not an issue for an early access game. But what is there is fun if you are after a game that you can just leave on, do some work, read a book... something like that.
I will absolutely keep checking back in on this game.

bing chilling
EDIT:
1. shipping price/name bugs when going to make another order
2. is the game supposed to actually let the stockers clear space from deliveries and put boxes on shelves/make orders themselves, or do I have to manually do that forever?
3. spending $X per hour on staff seems to be not the ideal way to display alone, maybe show it by shift/day and give an option to see overall stats without having to pull a calculator out and check every machines daily sales and staffing hours etc

Relaxing & enjoyable. Nice to just watch the npcs come and go, hearing all the little machine sounds.
The nighttime ambiance is wonderful, especially when it's raining.
Fun to decorate/design the machines and decorate all the different locations.
I really hope a lot more decorations and assets get added. It's pretty bare bones atm.
The amount of NPCs that liter is rage inducing. Just like real life :D
Bugs :
- Someone threw trash *into* the wall (no way to remove it) and now one of my locations is permanently 4.5 cleanliness.
- Sometimes the awnings don't actually block the rain.

Very minimal in it's current state but still a lot of fun. Great music, cozy vibes, Love the real time clock. You can just let the game run in the background as you go about whatever or you can sit there and micromanage away, Excited to see what the future brings for this one!

It's like one of those games that you turn on during work and just sometimes check how it's going.
So cozy, so relaxing and chill.
I'll be waiting for more updates, but devs are already doing great job!
It would be great to have more decorations and extended machine designer, BUT so far so good!
Huge fan already! <3

I think I gave it a fair shot, here's the thing, it feels like there's nothing to do. I refill the machines, try to tailor the snacks to the crowd but what difference does it make? If the first snacks you unlocked are still selling, why change to a new one? What is "vibe" and is it just shorthand for the amount of gnomes I've thrown about the place? Is being confused what makes it cozy? all these Japanese vending machines I bought could be replaced with one mega western machine that holds more than 4 things at a time, because we all know snacks are better when they fall.

I enjoyed the demo before Early Access and I've played for extra time offline. It's a niche experience, straddling the line between idler and tycoon games. The music is absolutely fantastic, and the game is a cozy time. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the devs do next!

I'm not sure what I expected from this but I'm really happy with what I got. It's a really fun little idler/small business sim. I'm quite enjoying dabbling, but if I were to really go for it I could see myself with spreadsheets about which items are most profitable, fun stuff like that. I might eventually go there. Anyway, look forward to seeing what the updates bring.

For those of you who play and return in a two hour window if the game doesnt suit your needs it has a weird bug where after you "save and exit" it doesnt seem to close on steam. I do NOT have 10.9 hours as of this writing. I have like less than 2 hours of actual gameplay.
That said Id personally never return this game. Its a very light business sim that looks really cool. Has good music. Its kind of just a step up from that "chill cozy idle business sim" genre and really somehow managed to find that perfect balance between the two extremes of "i dont feel like just sitting here clicking the whole time" and "now im just not doing anything and watching numbers go up" that many games (even the good ones!) struggle with. Great work! Well worth your support.

Changing the review to positive, the devs have added the core functionality that I felt was missing for what this game was advertised at and how it appears to run absolutely fine as an idle game where you need to have minimal input if you wish to. Leaving old review below for people to have context but now there's staff binning boxes & they don't get obsessed with cleaning vending machines. I believe they've also made it so it's faster to be able to hire staff but would need someone to verify that as i've passed the point and don't want to lose my save data to check.
I'd say there'd still be some nice QoL things to add but it's early access so hopefully some of those come down the line such as: Staff placing boxes on shelves (I still personally hate the congestion at the drop off point for orders but it's not that hard to deal with now that empty boxes are being handled by staff), being able to set up some way to be notified when stock of x product is dropping or being able to automate reordering would be nice and i'd say finally - a lot more decoration methods for the areas, I like the hangout vibe of areas that you can make but a bunch more decoration that feels fitting and maybe being able to kind of set up some form of thematic would be the next step.
Old Review:
I love the cosyness and the vibe of this game, however I feel it's launched too early which has put me off recommending this game. The game feels marketed towards being an idler style game, however the amount of engagement you need to be involved in currently is making it so I can't really idle.
The key reason for this is it takes a good amount of time to reach level 9 (around 2 and a half hours of you needing to fully pay attention unless you want to run out of stock, keep moving stock away from the depot area so it's not stuck as full, and have a very messy area due to everyone littering even though there's bins) which is when you can hire staff which should be able to handle all of the involvement. However, in the launch early access version, all they can do is cleaning - no stock ordering, no moving stuff out of the depot area and I still find I need to constantly be needing to assist cleaning even though I have 3 people on the same shift but all they seem to do is wipe the windows of the vending machines and ignore the mass of litter on the floor until it's beyond recovery so I need to assist.
It currently feels a bit tedious if you were looking at this like me and thinking this could be a cool second screen game. When they add better staff reliability and also add the functionality to manage the warehouse and restock, i'd recommend it.
If you were looking at this game with the intention of playing actively, it's pretty cool and a great concept. If you were looking at this and thinking you could just leave it run - you really can't in it's current state.

Honestly, I had high hopes, but the graphics aren't as good as they can be. The controls itself are okay, I wish it was fully playable with mouse only, but exiting/deleted items is the only thing that requires the keyboard. The game is extremely slow. When they say Cozy, they mean it'll make you bored and tired. There's not much to do in this game, and it's just not fun. I don't think it's the devs fault, but for me personally, this is too niche.

People watching sim, disguised as a vending machine manager.

Watched people trash an alley I spent hours cleaning by hand.
Cleaned human feces off the bottom and top of a presumably 800 lb machine.
Pet a cat that seemed frustrated with me interrupting his important work.
Spelled FUCK with lights and increased the vibe of the local hangout by at least one star.
Opened a Gacha ball with a gnome 10x it's size inside.
Made a self-running vending empire and became independently wealthy.
8/10 Would Vend Again.

This is a perfect idle game to keep you company while working or doing some other task. It provides a very soothing and charming ambience with the soundtrack and Japanese street views with the passers by and changing day/night/weather effects. I was specifically looking for a semi-idle game I could play while working; I love Spirit City: Lofi Sessions, but I wanted a bit more to do and this fits the bill exactly. After the initial set up, the game can run smoothly unattended for extended periods (the longest I've left it was 45 minutes with no ill outcomes), and with just a couple clicks to restock the machines and tidy trash it can go much longer with minimal interaction, but when I need a bit of a break the game play of cleaning, reordering, and tidying the warehouse is the perfect little productivity hit to get me motivated. I played the demo for 2 work days and then bought the full game this morning and I'm only playing it on the standard speed so I've only unlocked the first location thus far, but even with only one location I've been delighted throughout. I think if I was sitting down to just play this game by itself I'd enjoy it less, as I'd likely be speeding through the time to speed up progress, but as it is, I'm really enjoying the relaxing pace.

I've spent a little over 2 hours in this game and its definitely addicting. It's one of those games that makes you say "just one more!". The graphics are simple but very pretty with lots of colors and texture. I love the fact that there's different weather you can see as the day goes on. Designing and cleaning your vending machines is also a lot of fun. It's a fair amount of mechanics once you get into it but not overwhelming.
Can't wait to see what else comes when it's fully released but it's a super fun simulation and shop game and so far a blast in early access!

There's a lot to like about this game, and I have definitely spent more time actively managing it than I expected to, rather than leaving it idle. The level of customization is very appealing, and keeping your property stocked up and tidy is very addicting.
Some suggestions for the devs as the game progresses through Early Access:
- Scalable UI (hard to read some text items depending on window size)
- Marked color/customization choices (rather than memorizing the exact swatch I picked earlier)
- Stating whether certain music tracks or other prizes have already been unlocked via the reward machine , i.e. is it safe to convert to money since it has already previously been unlocked (there is no list of this in game)
- Keep Milestone panel centered on most recently unlocked milestone, rather than defaulting to Milestone 1 (less scrolling)
- Ability to add stickers to the windows or inside the case of machines (some default stickers are placed this way, but custom stickers cannot be placed in these locations)
- Company name/logo customization
I will definitely keep playing, and I'm excited to see what else is added in the future!

Great little game! Runs smooth and the progression is really engaging. My only regret is that I played through it on 2X speed most of the time, and I wish I took just a bit more time with it. That being said I'm really looking forward to new features and updates! The sound track is great as well and though I've completed nearly everything, I'll keep it running just for the music and visuals.

Maybe i haven't played long enough but i need some retributive action on the absolute maggots that ensconced their filthy trash while being within arms length of trash receptacle. It takes my emotive 5 star vibes down to a 3 star and inflicts caustic mental damage because this injustice in my comfy game starts making me not feel so comfortable anymore. I need an option to weaponize the cat or final destination some of these people. I've not felt such blinding rage since the days on Summoner's Rift =[
TLDR: Fantastic game. Raises controversial environmental issues.

As someone who really likes vending machines in general, this game was so fun and easy to pick up! I can't wait for more unlock items and progression charts and more vending machine types! Incredible thanks for making licenses of "4" items each. It is VERY satisfying with the details when you look for them! I hope for potential camera response to WASD in the future as that's embedded into me as a gamer and was fighting the camera quite often on free mode. Although could be user error. I was very surprised at the different location format but it worked and the team did a great job minimising interruption to play time when swapping inbetween locations. Cannot wait for workers to be able to restock + do deliveries!
Can't wait to revisit this when more updates get pushed! Congrats on the Early Access Launch Dev Team!

Still a bit early but it is a solid casual and relaxed game. Starts off a bit slow, intentionally, and then you work your way up to a mini-empire of vending machines.
I'm just hoping either we get ways to expand the current locations, or a lot more locations! Great job devs!

In it's current state, I'd rather call this a demo version rather than early access. Many aspects of the game are severely limited: few assets to choose from, very few automation options, three tightly-spaced venues and not a big variety of ways to manage all that. I've managed to basically complete the game in less than 7 hours.
Having said all that, I really enjoyed the experience: game design is very pleasant, mechanics are solid, there are very few bugs (and none of those are game-breaking), UI, while definitely not perfect, is more than adequate for everything the game offers so far. Background music is nice, visuals are cozy, and most importantly, the overall vibe is spot-on — exactly what you can expect from a game like this. The immersion clicks almost instantly: it's not just a game, it's your business, and you really care about all the little details of your day-to-day operations! A detailed and compelling customization screen for your vending machines is particularly worth mentioning.
I think this game has a strong potential. Already standing on a solid base, now it just needs to build more content on top of that, and it will be a great little idle game.
I feel like the current price is a very fair deal for what you're getting. And I will definitely come back to the game later, after more work will be done to expand it further.

This is quite a surprisingly addicting, charming little game. I downloaded the demo but immediately got sucked into it and decided to eventually buy the full game after playing the demo. There's something really addicting running my own little vending machine company (taking care of the vending machines and keeping them well stocked) while having some relaxing lofi music playing in the background.
Although the game does say it's an idler game, at the moment it feels like player interaction is pretty involved, having to make sure to clean up the machines and pick up trash that's left behind. Not that that's a bad thing necessarily, it just feels like you can't fully leave the game alone and let it do its thing. Fortunately, it seems the devs are trying to improve on the idle gameplay aspects in future updates.
I think this game has a lot of great potential and it's great that the devs are taking the time to listen to the critiques and figuring out how to improve on things. I really hope you can eventually sell some more fun items aside from food and drinks like little toys and figurines you can buy from those Japanese gashapon machines (I know there's that reward capsule machine, but I'm specifically talking about setting up gachapon machines that the NPCs in this game can buy these toys and figures from). I also hope you'd be able to customize the controls. As it is right now, I don't think there's any way to customize any controls for hotkeys and whatnot. I also don't think there's a way to invert the mouselook when you're looking around in the build mode. I also hope there's a way to use the mouse when you customize the decals on the vending machines. As it is now, moving and resizing the decals on the vending machines is done through sliders. It can feel a little clunky when you want to precisely move the decals around.
Give the free demo a shot, at the very least. You can still do plenty of things in the demo compared to the full game.

A cozy background game. The music and vibes from this game are amazing. I ended up getting it for my wife because I know she loves games like this as well and we both love it!
We are both looking forward to the continued progress of this game as we sit in our cozy alleys and vibe the day away while doing other things/sometimes focusing on the game in order to actually progress. I've basically beaten it at this point, but it's just so good to have in the background!
Note that I have not bought any alleys and am still sitting in the starter one since having to manually refill each vending machine with left click would be way too much for a game I plan to have running in the background in my opinion.(According to the game though, in the hiring/employee section; the employees will apparently be able to restock in a future update. Looking forward to that!)

I love this game! I know staff can only clean now, so it would be cool to see staff able to restock from office inventory in future updates. That being said, if you're looking for a full idler, this isn't it right now since you have to do quite a bit of hands-on managing still. It is a cozy and fun business manager and I am excited to see where it goes. i am looking forward to more decorations, locations, and staff functions! I think its worth it if you can grab it on sale!
