fun game, but honestly, not worth the buy. small, niche community that is not friendly to new players online. unless you wanna get one-and-doned and teabagged constantly, just don't even waste your time or money and enjoy your day elsewhere.

Pros
- Decent graphic with less requirement on PC spec
- Technical and fast pace gameplay
- The several well-designed characters look good
- Easy access to your friend's room
- Mostly good battle BGMs
- Color editor
- Many tournaments await
Cons
- Favor jumping so much compared to other 2D fighting games to the point it's annoying, very difficult to defend against
- Defensive mechanics are more difficult to pull off (Just Defense, Hyper Defense, 0 Frame)
- 2 combos = dead (or even 1 combo 1 oki for some characters)
- Difficult combo extender moves and combo timing
- Less forgiving for small mistakes
- Long knockdown time. Oki can whiff on iframe
- REV blow is too strong especially evasive ones (much stronger than Drive Impact)
- No placement system or climbing from the start, players choose their own starting rank
- Training mode can be better
- Some characters are designed like an NPC or having weird face model
- The game opening song doesn't fit the animation at all
- Expensive compared to other games in the same generation or similar graphics

This is probably my favorite modern fighting game, gameplay wise speaking. Also, dat top tier jazzy soundtrack, so good.
Unfortunately SNK has a bad habit of making unbelievably awful decisions regarding everything else outside of gameplay; disastrous marketing, terrible regional pricing, archaic UI design and navigation, barebones training mode and what else. Which is really sad when you look at how high quality the gameplay / mechanics of their previous titles were (Kof XV and Samsho) conceived in contrast to the bad and the ugly plaguing the user experience.
If you're looking for a solid old school 2D fighting game tho, there's one inside this mess.

i'm a big SNK fan... and i was really looking forward to this game. Despite all the hooplay and ppl trying to say it was dead at launch, i always said all that was BS. But one thing is for sure, the more i play this game, the less I like it.... the balance is just not there. if you're not playing the right chars, you're at a major disadvantage and probably not having fun...

Man, I think this is the best Modern Day Fighting Game ever. Ever since the Characters have gone to 3D from Sprite Art, this is the best Fighting Game. The gameplay of this game is just top notch. I don't feel like I'm getting cried by BS mechanics like Street Fighter 6. I win more in SF6 than in this game. When I lose, which is a lot, I don't feel like it was BS. It always felt like if I had done this or this I could have gotten that round or match. Like I said, the gameplay is top notch. The game is beautiful to look at. It has an amazing sound track. The online network is great. The game can use some improvements in some other areas but, they don't take away how this game feels when you play it. It's a harder game than most of these other Fighting Games, but I think it's more rewarding than the other Fighting Games. One thing that SNK seems to always get right, is the gameplay. KOF XV, Samurai Shodown, those games play amazing as well. I love this game. I mostly play on PS5 so that's why my play time on Steam isn't high. I recommend this game if you really love Fighting Games.

This is a qualified review, because if you're someone who plays fighting games just for the gameplay and likes big flashy moments more than anything, this game might be fun for you. In general, though, the game has a problem with combining long and high damage combos with low execution, which makes matches become stale quickly. Characters all play similarly, and the top tiers are defined by how well they make use of the universal systems.
If you need more to convince you to buy, there's not a lot here. Arcade mode is solid but standard, Episodes of South Town lacks the meat to be engaging long term, and there are very few combo trials to speak of.
It's a small package that may shine for people who are already interested, but it lacks polish, and when it comes down to it the gameplay lacks the depth to make it interesting in the long-term.

No other new players to play against. It has a really fun fighting system but hasn't been able to keep a large enough player base.

I usually write heated negative or joke reviews for a lot of stuff. Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves won't be one of those games.
I've genuinely been having a ton of fun, it's a breath of fresh air after recent titles that are focused on heavy offense like SF6, TK8 or maybe even GGST. It feels rewarding to play even in defense, feint mechanics are super nice and there's generally enough detail in the seemingly simple-looking game that I've come to appreciate.
A lot of people may deem the guest characters as controversial picks but SNK managed to make John McFootball an engaging character to watch and play; whereas Jesus Music Man is a super silly, fun addition to the roster.
It is a shame that the well is running dry with poor sales after SNK's very shady investors have forced a lot of their own ideas of marketing and inclusions onto the dev team, but it makes the game no less fun in its current state. If you want to play something new and reminiscent of older games than this current "golden age", this game won't disappoint.
P.S. Free Season 1 DLC!

This game is a disrespect to the Fatal Fury/Garou Mark of the Wolves legacy.
It is an unfinished product with an infinite amount of questionable decisions.
It is clear that most of the budget went into marketing this game for people that don't give a single fuck about fighting games.
Instead of including the characters from Mark of the Wolves, SNK and their Saudi boss included fucking Cristiano Ronaldo and some random DJ.
The game lacks any decent single player modes. They were too busy with random collabs and sponsoring events.
The tutorials don't teach you shit.
The story is so bad that it would probably be better if it was written with AI.
The mechanics that made Mark of the Wolves so good are back, but they are buried under a pile of REV bullshit.
REV blow is a stupid and boring mechanic.
Ex attacks make combos look very similar and drag for a very long time. They were probably trying to make the game more similar to KOF.
The SNK staff and the players do not deserve to suffer from the decisions taken by the heads of SNK.

I'm always bad at SNK games, but I can't deny how much fun it is to play. Love the characters, and their stories are a great time to play through. It's just an all-around good time to play with friends.
Fatal Fury COTW: The Best Fighting Game of This Generation
It is not possible to review this game without entering into comparisons. At the end of the day, fighting games are competitive, and people need to know all they can to spend their hard earned money as safely as possible. Especially because, well, you know this: fighting game communities are so TOXIC. If someone loves one game, they go to rivals forums to spread misinformation and lies to... not sure what. To prevent their precious game from losing players? To hurt the competition? Or simply for farming clowns. Just, if you have doubts, check the reviews here and avoid the toxicity of the forums. Fans are busy having fun, and historically, SNK fans are not as toxic as other games fans. And that’s another plus, really.
Short review: This is the best game SNK has made to date and the best pure fighting game of this generation. Is it free of flaws? No, of course not. No game is, but let’s take a look at all the factors.
Price: Unbeatable Value
This game is the cheapest and least greedy of all. No extra editions, the first-year complete season pass is free... you can’t complain about the content/price ratio. Here is a clear winner. Let’s compare with SF6. They have a 4character season pass for more than 7 bucks per character: $30 for 4 characters. But if you want stages (only 2, because long gone are the days when one character had one stage for Capcom... you know, they need profits) and extra colors and costume, you need to pay $50, and that's the price of a new game. Here, you get everything for free.
SF6 has more extra costumes. The second one can be unlocked for free by playing their World Tour mode, but the third one for the non-DLC cast is... a steal, and not in a good way. Barely $10 for a costume. But you will not see that on the main page because it’s just in the internal shop. You can’t farm that money in-game, so the only way is spending a lot of money. You can say that they are free with the $50 season pass. Well, that’s one way to look at it. $50, man. All colors and customization colors are free here, so for me, the winner is clear.
Roster: Key for a fighting game
Now let’s talk about the roster. All the characters and story have a lot of care and detail; the story is way better. We have 2 guest characters here for now (Ken and Chun-Li are coming for free). Ronaldo (which people complain about a lot because, for them, he doesn’t fit) and Salvatore. Ronaldo is the only character that doesn’t have a story mode, which is a pleasant surprise because you do not need to see him or interact with him offline if you don’t want, unless you go to vs. COM and select him as a character or rival. This is awesome because it doesn’t break immersion; we got a free character that simply isn’t in the middle and doesn’t hurt. Salvatore, though, has a story mode. The character is a little weird, but not as weird as many characters we’ve faced, guest or not. In fact, the guy is a fighting game lover and was cool with everyone at events and conventions that he attended... buying his own ticket for the simple pleasure of being with the fans. He won me over in the game and in real life when I was so critical of him. And with Ken and Chun-Li coming... I think the roster is superior here.
SF6 is more diverse, with some amazing designs and some generic, dull, bad designs. Manon has the ugliest legs ever in a game, faces are usually uglified, Kimberly seems like a character for a modern audience only, Lily would be smiling even if a zombie were eating her intestines, Marisa is a steroid mole, Ken looks like a vagabond, Dee Jay doesn’t even look human, Luke has a typical face that you want to hit (SF5 design was much better)... and then you find extremely well-made characters like Cammy (despite them reducing her breasts to barely non-existent), Chun-Li, Terry, and Mai (the best Terry and Mai I’ve ever seen). The amount of love and detail Capcom put into them is amazing. And the animations? Stellar.
Gameplay: Strategic and Fun
SF6 has an easy mode called Modern Controls. Here, you have SNK’s version of that. Both are good at what they do, but Capcom’s is superior by a thin margin, giving you more possibilities. Fatal Fury has more defensive options against aggression, and despite those requiring more skill to execute, they give you so many options. SF6, on the other hand, is a little faster and more fluid. I would say that Fatal Fury is the winner again here because it has more tools and more characters you want to face and use. But SF6 is more dynamic in its fighting. Taking into account that we play fighting games for fun, despite all this, I think SF6 is slightly superior here.
Stages: Visually Stunning
The best stages from SNK in a long time and their best 3D ones. Stages here are amazing. But Capcom has mastered stage art, how deep they are, the lights... despite the stages here being a 10, SF6 is superior. But, you know, not every character has their own stage. Still, the number is acceptable, so SF6 wins here.
Music: A Nostalgic Triumph
On music, Fatal Fury wins. So many options and classic tracks here to choose from, and you’re able to mix them with modern ones. Far away are the legendary tracks from the SF team, like SF2 or Alpha 2, as some examples.
Online: Smooth and Reliable
Online is for Fatal Fury too. The best online from SNK and superior to Capcom’s, which has never been their strong point. However SF 6 characters are more balanced. That means nothing to me, because I dislike that, I like more fight against the odds. I remember when they where complained about Ken being so strong, we have those complaints here too, but that's normal.
Extra Modes: Classic vs. Modern
Extra modes: Capcom has its 3D World Tour, and SNK’s is more old-school, just text on the map and combats, no 3D roaming here and there. But it has a longer and better story per character, despite you not creating an avatar. That saves you from in-game shops and collaborations that do not fit, like SF has. But hey, they can add Ninja Turtles or anime characters, and it’s okay, but we add a DJ fan, and it’s the end of the world. Typical Capcom fanboyism. SF6 has online against AI, which is cool, and here we have something similar, so that’s cool too (and unexpected). Besides, Capcom has DEI and inclusion in its game; this is DEI free, with no subliminal messages.
Minor Issues
The one that upsets me more is that Fatal Fury has a taunt problem: you need to push 3 buttons normally, and it’s not possible with their Smart Controls (aka Modern Controls). I wish it could be remapped. Damn, I wish we could remap Smart Controls to make them more similar to SF6 and not get confused when you play Mai in both. Luckily, I usually play with classic controls, so I do not have this issue, unless i decide to slack for fun. But still.
Conclusion: The Best Value in Fighting Games
This is not an article; it’s just a review, and I think it’s long enough. Fatal Fury is the most complete game of this generation. You do not have shady techniques and lies like Tekken 8, and no spit in the face of the players. It’s a very honest product compared with SF6 on price and content, and it’s well done. I play SF6, and I like the game despite the flaws, same as I play MK1 and other games. That’s why I honestly think you should get this game. Because it’s simply the best you can get and play for your money.

Good game. Solid core mechanics.
Simple enough to not overwhelm you with its input options, but complex enough to be interesting.
Vibrant colours, clear animations, good sound design, decent tutorials and combo practice.
Runs smoothly for me. Online multiplayer also worked well.
All of the basics are well done in my opinion, which deserves praise and makes this a fun fighting game.
After intense training and combo practise and I'm still at rock bottom in the rankings. Despite that I always had fun playing online.
Unfortunately, the community is relatively small and it's rare to find an opponent from Europe.
The singleplayer content is very mid. The game goes for an arcade vibe so there basically is no story mode.
The "Episodes" game mode that has level up progression is not very compelling either.
My last complaint is that there are inputs that overlap, so I keep doing the wrong move because I didn't switch to neutral between two moves. Probably not an issue if you're not a noob.
This game is great where it matters. It cannot hold a candle to the cinematic spectacle and character design of Mortal Kombat or Tekken though.

This game is really fun, but sadly it seems to have mostly a ghost town for it's player base now. It's hard to find consistent matches in a reasonable amount of time and the matches you do find are rife with one and dones.
I really wish this game saw a much more consistent draw.

The gameplay is fire, absolutely addicting, and the defense options are so much better than other fighting games... so for fighting games lovers, it's great....
But for the casuals... I wonder and I can't recommend.
Also, the 2 guest characters are total garbage... they should never have made it in this game.
So, make sure you have other friends playing it if you want to get into. It's awesome as a fighting game, but for casuals, it might no be the game.

Fatal Fury has always been one of the front runners in fighting games that are difficult to learn, but worth your dedication. My entrance to the series was playing a huge chunk of The King of Fighters 14 as a casual so I've been looking forward to dive into a Fatal Fury with a modern engine. City of The Wolves has enough content to keep you more than satisfied.
First and foremost, this game has crossplay and it works the way it should. Let's tackle the game modes, the story mode is called Episodes of South Town (EOST). Here you choose a character, a play type; being Arcade controls or Smart controls, and run around town looking to trade fists with other fighters and accomplish a goal based on your chosen character. Do not listen to others who downplay smart controls. It's wise to choose the controls that you're simply most comfortable with so you can learn while enjoying yourself. There's plenty of opponents to fight throughout each character's story, and from winning you'll earn points to put into attack, defense, or another attribute to strengthen yourself. The issue is that there's nothing more to the mode than this. There's no plot meaning no character's path shows you any story. If you pay attention to the dialogue between characters you'll learn about their motivations and their self-doubts so it's worth you checking it out. Practice, the mode where you'll spend much of your time if you want to learn to use a character correctly. Thankfully, you're given tools to train for specific scenarios such as input data, hitbox images, and replays. You can rewind a portion of the fight to see what your inputs were at anytime during the tape. You can set the COM to jab after guarding an attack, set it counter-attack, or other delayed reactions. Right now, I know that you're able to record/save your gameplay, but not sure if you can set the COM to mimic it. You have the mission category to practice both simple and complicated recommended combos. The developers did a great job. Arcade and VS categories aren't dissimilar from each other. You can set the COM to several different difficulty levels, each being considerably smarter than the last. No illustrations or currency to earn a reward, just fisticuffs. Online mode has room matches to make casual matches easier to find, and you can spectate your opponent in the lab for a set amount of time. Though there's still no walk-around lobby system.
The Six Flag's roller coaster is the gameplay. My favorite aspect of this series is the cast. Every character has a unique game plan, and none of them play the same as another. You prefer ranged fights, and only interacting when necessary, try Cristiano Ronaldo (yes, he's playable), Billy, or Kain. Prefer slower builds with massive damage and near-fullscreen specials, try Tizoc, Marco, or Kevin. Prefer an agile approach that thrives in close combat, try Gato, Preecha, Hakutomaru, or Dong Hwan. Prefer a balance of agility, range, and damage, try anyone else. All of them excel in at least one area, and struggle in at least one. Remember that if combos are too difficult for any character, switch to smart controls which adjust combos to require less button inputs. Each character has several combos, don't like the second or third recommended combo? Go back to missions to learn a different one that does just as much damage. There's versatility in the way you choose to win.
Wow, you're still reading my essay. Here are some gripes that I have with the game. Unlike many others in the community, I like both Ronaldo and Salvatore a lot. But guest characters taking slots from series characters doesn't sound right in any game. Especially, since that means we're forced to buy those characters that might have had their slot taken by a guest. Next, the COM that Arcade and VS use is preposterous. I'm aware that input reads are required for the COM to compete with advanced players. But there's no reason why the level 4 COM has on many occasions predicted that my botched DP input would become a quarter circle, the COM taking the risk to stuff my input instead of blocking. Yet almost every time I do a well-placed DP (a DP between hits a blockstring) it gets blocked. It's as though the COM knows when I botch my inputs, that's cheating. I hope the developers lab these situations seriously from now on. The biggest gripe for last, the barebones online lobby, and the lack of flare thereof. Please give us a dedicated walk-around lobby.
Fatal Fury: City of The Wolves is a meticulously crafted package that has a character for every fan, and has the potential to bring those who are ready to accept the challenge of the fighting genre into the fold!! As a struggling Gato main with a bad W/L, I love this game.

One of the most fun to play fighting games out there, City of the Wolves feels modern but same time a throw back where characters feel genuinely different which is more than I can say about other modern entries in the genre. The art style pops so well that I don't even think YouTube videos do it justice, the characters except the idiot soccer player all look good and voice acting shows personality. I was even shocked at how fun Salvatore is and how funny he actually is. I admit I was wrong about him.
Online is mostly good with one nitpick being ranked should be tied to individual characters, something thankfully they are rectifying. Matchmaking is mostly good (a first for an SNK game at launch) and netcode holds up well.
The mechanics work well however the game is indire need of a balance patch which hopefully will drop later this year as some characters have so much potential but are held back by some nerfs they got after the beta (Preecha and Tizoc come to mind).
Overall a fantastic fighting game that deserves alot more attention than it has.

A game with some pretty fun neutral held back by horribly timed character releases (Andy and Joe are DLC meanwhile 2 of the 4 collab characters are base game), the most boring combo system and homogenized characters (every character bar like 2 exceptions is basically the same), and no way to just buy the game without the DLC characters coming up if you don't actually care for any of them. Oh and they're spending all of their money on more and more collabs like music and other popular people to promote it
If you want to play a Fatal Fury game just play Garou, its also on Steam and is just as fun to move around in. Arguably more active too depending on how you look at it

Not a fan of the feint system for combo-ing, and not a fan of having to sit and watch my opponent do a 50% combo without any way for me to break it. Compared to other fighting games it has a lot more mechanics to keep track of, and having a 5th button makes binding button combinations to my controller difficult. Visuals and sound effects are nice though.

This game is very good. SNK has made very few misses when it comes to their fighting games, and this is no exception. Ignore everyone made because of real life people as guest characters, what a pointless thing to not buy a game over. Every aspect of this game has been very enjoyable, and I am very VERY glad to have finally gotten a sequel to one of the best old-school fighters.

Gameplay is great, just about everything else is mediocre. Balance, single player, UI, combo diversity, it's all quite 'meh' and the meta hasn't helped. I recommend it, but only if you're fond of old school fighting games.

Great game! As far as fighting games go, it's easy to learn but difficult to master. The easy part is move-lists and execution. The mastery part just comes in the form of decision making and getting good at defense. Neutral is all over the screen at a fast pace, so don't just play it by walking back and forth and poking like SF6. You gotta have fun dashing, running, and hopping around. Don't be where your opponent wants you to be.
Learning your opponent's combo routes and when you're free to move again is also crucial. It's a lot more safe to think... How can I get back to neutral, instead of, when is it my turn to press.
As far as anti zoning goes, remember that just defense gives you life bar back, so be patient. Just hang back and let the fireballs heal you if that's all they wanna do. You don't have to kill yourself trying to get in, especially against Kain.
Attack these aspects first and you'll have a blast!

Fatal Fury City of the Wolves is probably my favorite fighting game of all time.
The online is not dead because I will always be on it, whether it be here or on PS5 (with crossplay).
It just does so many things right. The comic book/anime artstyle is some of the best 3D SNK has ever looked. The combos are addicting and so cool to look at, and the mechanics are so fun to utilize. When's the last time since you air-parried a DP super? Not since 3rd Strike?
The roster is diverse with lots of variety to the playstyles. Everyone's got tools that make them unique and viable and getting outplayed feels less like "why did I lose that" and instead feels more like "I see where I went wrong." Rev cancelling and Rev Blows are balanced versions of Drive Rush and Drive Impact, but the game also has Feints and Breaking from classic Fatal Fury.
One of the best aspects about this game though, is how there are no microtransactions, heck, there isn't even any paid DLC yet! The first year of DLC characters are free, and include crossover Street Fighter characters. Plus, instead of 4 characters a year, SNK is pushing out 5-6.
There's no battle pass or limited-time items to worry about. The color edit mode lets you individually customize nearly every aspect of your fighter's outfit, and there are unlockable patterns in the single player as well. The jukebox includes hundreds of tracks from the Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting series, as well as so many banging new tracks, and even remixes from the KOF series. You can customize playlists per stage, per character. All included.
The only real FOMO with this game is the classic Terry preorder costume, but given SNK's track record, this outfit will be sold for a few bucks down the line or included with the DLC (if it has not been released already).
TLDR This game is fun if you love fighting games. While other modern games in the genre release with overpowered mechanics, expensive DLC, unbalanced characters, FOMO battlepasses, and basic game features locked behind paywalls, SNK delivers a fulfilling and complete experience that is well worth your time as a fighting game player.
I have never really clicked with SF6 or Tekken 8, and I have always felt more at home with classic fighting games. This is a classic fighting game, revived for the modern age.

Make no mistake, Fatal Fury is the best modern fighting game: It is the only fighting game that has actual e-sport potential, and has been designed for this purpose from the ground-up.
In a time when most of the big franchises are watering down their systems in favor of creating casual-friendly experiences, SNK has stayed true to their legacy, giving us a deep game experience with balanced offensive and defensive play. They do include the option to play with a "smart" control scheme, but it only lowers the amount of button presses required, in the interest of accessibility; it does not cheapen or lesson the training, decision-making, and accuracy requirements. I prefer to control each input of a combo string, but there's no shame in using the modernized controls - something that cannot be said of such players of other franchises.
There are definitely a lot of salty players who will refuse to admit that SNK is ready to provide what Tekken and Capcom have deprived them of. They point to the inclusion of CR7 and Salvatore Ganacci in the line-up, declaring that they cannot take the game seriously. To this, I say 1) Salvatore Ganacci is a fictional character created by Emir Kobilić, a massive fan who contributed massively to the excellent OST, fitting perfectly in the game, and 2) Training mode literally allows you to beat the **** out of Ronaldo daily. What's the complaint, again? Ronaldo has no story content and doesn't intrude otherwise. It's a small fly in the ointment, otherwise, and if we have to put up with it to learn more about popularizing e-sports, it's fine.
The game has two primary single-player modes (aside from training missions, which are excellent) - Arcade mode (which includes SNK style, comic-panel story elements), and Episodes of South Town, which includes RPG elements, focused on introducing game concepts with a gradually increasing level of difficulty. I'm very happy with both, and they serve their purposes wonderfully. Some have criticized it's lack of AAA polish, but after seeing how SF6's single player 'experience' plays out, I'm extra happy with the treatment we've received here. Let me repeat: I DO NOT WANT the SF6 ********. Thank goodness SNK won't send us there.
Fatal Fury is expensive, it is a AAA title, but it's budget has been set firmly into the development of its system, not bells and whistles. It should become the new gold-standard for e-sports fighters, and will absolutely stand the test of time. The current price also includes the first season pass as well, which is important to remember. (OK they put a lot of money into promotions, but that's a different department, and realistically, we can't blame the developers for that.)
It is very important that we support real developers interested in making real games, not panderous monstrosities. SNK is doing this, where others are not. Take a look, and see for yourself. Nothing but great value, all around.

Game is pretty shitty if you ask me, I don't have a lot of hours on it but I can take one look at a match and understand exactly what this game is about
The damage is ridiculous, it's like you're playing a SF6 match with a critical art always available, which is pretty ridiculous
I had a lot of hope for this game since I'm starting to get tired of SF6, but any time I try a different FG I come back to SF6 with my kneepads out because it's the only game that even stands a chance in the modern day FG scene imo
I'm also not gonna lie, the crossovers being Ronaldo and shit like that is a huge turn off for me, due to his history as a person and also the fact that it literally just makes no sense, and feels like they're pulling a "how do you do, fellow kids?" with Ronaldo
So I wouldn't buy this game, I kinda regret preordering it but it was a gift via money so I don't really regret it, but it's still a funn-ish game if you're that bored, I personally wouldn't invest time into it though

I love SNK, this was a crazy miss. The marketing was the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. SO cringe, nobody cares about the IP and it shows. I can find a ranked game after some time but NEVER are they even close to my rank. The guest characters are genuine trash.

This reminds me of a time when 2D fighters required more than room temperature IQ to play...in Celsius.

taking up a base roster slot with Ronaldo isn't the worst warcrime the Saudi royal family has done
Pros:
1) The MOST important thing of all: Crossplay! and it's on by default! (Capcom why couldn't you have just put this in your collections releases??)
2) SNK defense mechanics are back, which is a good thing for those of us who like how snappy just defends feel relative to SF-style parries
3) It feels like there's a nice balance between offensive options with powerful armored REV blows vs. defensive options with just defends, hyper defends, guard cancels.
4) The single-player content consisting of the story around exploring South Town and arcade mode is pretty lightweight, but it meets the expectations you'd have for fighting games.
5) Performs nicely with no stutters, good netcode (the visuals are nice too and not likely to be dated anytime soon)
6) Despite wasting character slots on losers like Ronaldo, SNK has done a nice job of including the main FF characters in the base roster and new characters like Preecha and Ganacci are cool. I don't really think anyone knows who Ganacci is, but he's vaguely European and weird, so he fits as a nice original character anyway. While games like SF6 have been out for years and I still can't find a main in that game because Capcom refuses to add older characters, I was instantly able to find a main in this game.
Cons:
1) The training mode is hot garbage and belongs in 2010. Why are there no combo trials?
2) The characters do this weird thing where their victory lines are delayed by like 2 seconds after they do their victory animation. Why???
3) Would love a roster double this current size. 17 is good for a launch, but we need more. Other SNK characters would be preferable to non-SNK guests. Seriously, we could have had Athena instead of Ronaldo...
4) Color edit is good, but the character customization is nowhere close to Tekken or Mortal Kombat.
5) Despite having all these licensed collaborations, the music is lacking a lot from previous SNK games. KOFXV has a much larger music collection. Why not just import that?
I think the pros (which are mostly about the core gameplay) outweigh the cons and I do think this game has the potential to be one of the main faces of contemporary fighting games, up there with SF6 and Tekken 8

SNK went out of his way to take the legacy of Fatal Fury and tone it down for mindless button mashing. Gone are the powerfull but difficult defensive mechanics that gave the identity to prio Fatal Fury games, to only mimic modern main stream fighting games plane type gameplay with the shadow of defensive mechanics that do you more harm and cost more resources and make no damage options (Guard Cancels and air JD are a joke most of all, the push back and guard stun in the air are so large that you can't hit almost nothing) . The dis-balance of the game is notorious and talked by everyone, so no need to say it here again, but even this over powered characters break the rules of the game that everyone else has to follow, like proximity guard and cross ups distances and hit boxes, etc, unapologetic unbalance in favor a of few characters that everyone knows, not only giving 100 tools to some characters, but taking away tools and normals to other characters when there is no need, the game design is terrible, the don't understand that every characters must be fun to play, not only a handfull.
I wrote them in other places and don't have the energy to write the same here again, they don't listen to fans so why bother.
This is probably the last game I buy from SNK, what a shame. Hope they realize they mistakes and improve the gameplay so everyone can come back to play and enjoy and in that way, gain new players too.
