Heroes of Valor – the spirit of Battlefield Heroes, but without its soul Battlefield Heroes wasn’t just a cartoon-style shooter — it was a vibe, a feeling, and a treasure trove of great memories from battles fought with a smile. It’s no wonder fans have been waiting for years for something to recapture even a hint of that magic. The creators of Heroes of Valor are former Battlefield Heroes players who, like many of us, missed that unique atmosphere and decided to make a spiritual successor. Unfortunately, despite their good intentions, the final product falls short — especially when it comes to atmosphere and style. The game features a cartoony art style, humor, and team-based skirmishes, but it quickly becomes clear that this resemblance is only superficial. It might look familiar, but it lacks the depth, charm, and unique flair that made Battlefield Heroes so special. In Battlefield Heroes, each faction stood out not only by their appearance but also through unique voices, laughter, and signature sound effects that gave the characters personality and humor. Those little details created the game’s atmosphere and made picking a faction feel meaningful. Sadly, Heroes of Valor misses the mark here — the characters’ voices sound almost identical, and the laughs and sound effects are overly simplified, resulting in a flat audio experience that lacks fun variety. The character designs suffer the same fate. In Battlefield Heroes, the Axis faction had sharp, exaggerated silhouettes that made them easy to spot. In Heroes of Valor, there’s no clear difference — everyone looks roughly the same, with only colors setting them apart. The maps have a similar problem. The original locations were full of life, style, and mood — some battles are still unforgettable today. In Heroes of Valor, the maps feel bland: neither visually interesting nor well-designed for gameplay. They lack atmosphere, something color alone can’t fix. On top of that, many maps suffer from balance issues that hurt gameplay quality, and the presence of bots in experience-earning modes only makes things worse. Combat mechanics are also disappointing. Shooting doesn’t feel nearly as satisfying as before, and vehicles — once a highlight — now feel clunky, underdeveloped, and completely lacking character. Plus, the announcer’s serious and formal tone when points are captured clashes with the game’s cartoonish vibe, making the whole experience feel disjointed. Visually, despite the stylized approach, the graphics come off as plastic and soulless, while the animations feel stiff. As a result, the game loses that sense of ease, fun, and humor that once drew players in. Heroes of Valor is a decent attempt to revive a formula that many players — including the developers themselves — have long missed. Unfortunately, despite a few good ideas, the final product feels shallow and lacks the atmosphere needed to truly compete with the original. The potential is there, but it’s still waiting to be unlocked. Despite all this, I intend to support the project and hope that over time, the game will reclaim the spirit of the original — defined by charm, humor, and a unique, light-hearted atmosphere. I hope this is just an early draft, and that the real “Heroes” are still to come.

This 1GB game has the kind of potential that could honestly put some AAA titles to shame. But to really become something great, it needs two key things: A bigger, active player base. Devs who stay focused on fixing bugs and adding actual gameplay content, not just pumping out cosmetic or paid items. The €13.31 price tag might feel a bit steep, especially compared to rival free-to-play games, but it’s still fair if you’re into supporting the project. Let’s just hope the devs put that support to good use. To the Devs: Please don’t mess this up. Focus on building a solid game first. If it’s fun and well-balanced, people will spend money in the shop, you don’t need to force it. Let it happen naturally. You’ve got something special here, don’t ruin it with bad priorities. To Potential Buyers: The game is actually a blast. The mechanics are a little janky, but not in a bad way, they’re challenging in a fun, weirdly refreshing way. Yeah, it takes like 3–4 sniper shots or like two mags of an automatic to kill an enemy, but feels like that’s part of the design. It’s not trying to be ultra-realistic, it’s about challenge and longer fights, which actually makes the battlefield feel more alive. Less dying instantly, more strategy. I'll keep playing, hope you do too, and also hope that the devs do not f this up.

The feel is just the old BFH, funny and enjoyable with plenty of servers. Despite it being on early access it looks polished and relatively bug-free. Definitely worth it!

This game looks and feels like a remake of the old Battlefield Heroes, which was great. It needs a bigger playerbase, but the basics are a lot of fun! Hitreg 7/10 Graphics 8/10 Gameplay 9/10 Overall, 8/10, fun to burn time with.

I played every Battlefield game except Heroes and 2142. So I don't come from a Battlefield Heroes background. I hate pay 2 win games or even free multiplayer shooters. I like to purchase and own a game without worrying about the servers being disconnected one day and nothing being there after investing time and money on the game. I like I can go back and play Unreal Tournament 2004 today and have fun playing it single player. I love games like Ravenshield and Rising Fronts. Fast forward today and wow this is definitely worth the $14 I spent on this game. AI on the bots is very competent. I wish games like Hell Let Loose and Rising Storm 2 Vietnam took notice. Didn't have to play with a toxic community or worry about being booted off for bad ping. This game is up there with Tannenburg or Verdun as one of the best Multiplayer experiences with bots. Right now its bare bones. Needs more maps and support. Good thing its still early access and has room for expansion. The only people giving bad reviews are mostly people who feel so self entitled that video games should be free for them. Especially from a 2 man developer team. I'm glad to support a small indie developer that made a barrier of entry for cheaters and self entitled players. Glad there making FPS great again unlike Splitgate 2.
What a lovely game!
I do genuinely believe that the Heroes of Valor is massively overlooked and unfortunately not seen enough For me it's the pure definition of fun and simplicity . What's the other game where you can see lots of "haha", "xD", "LOL" in the game chat? Where else could you ride a bike, try to run over an enemy, miss the target, jump off at full speed on a high speed and die right in front of them - and still enjoy it? It's the game that made me actually laugh after dying in the dumbest way possible - let alone the kills where you accidentally make people fly away from your explosion I think it says a lot about a PvP game - not something what we are used to in a modern games Wishing all the best to the developers and encourage people to give it a try. It worth a shot

(17.06.2025) it is still in Beta and early access, you shouldn´t forget that. A lot of people seem to expect a fully fleshed out Battlefield Heroes, which it obviously is not. I have had hundreds of hours in BFH and here is my humble opinion: This game goes into the right direction. I like the approach on this game and i see a lot of opportunities. It is goofy and fun. I would like the implementation of more maps/gamemodes and maybe even more additional stuff "around" (for example like BFH had with the War room and the daily claw). For now i enjoy playing it for a bit here and there and i am curious in what direction this game will go. It is pretty basic for now but still quite some fun and in my opinion worth the money they are asking for.

It's a must have for everyone who likes shooters. Many abilities, funny cartoony graphics, smooth and enjoyable gameplay. Many servers to Play on, plempty od guns to choose, 4 different classes... If you want to spent some time Alone or with your friends you will be more than happy to Play HoV. Its new players friendly - yesy to Play and after some time its easy to master too. If you are considering buying it - just do it, its worth your money. See You on the Battlefield, Soldier!

Totally love this game. Gives me old H&G vibes. I'm terrible at shooters, so having a difficulty slider, and the ability to self host the game solo means my bad playing doesn't hurt as much. GG.

Lovely game, very nostalgic but certainly held back by the price-point and lack of content. Fun if you've got friends or family but if not, expect to be playing against bots in empty servers. 6/10 I'd say

Out of every other iteration and resurrection to make Battlefield Heroes, this one feels the most genuine. It keeps a lot of the elements the original game has while balancing and adding some new features. It plays and feels practically the same. I would like NA servers to pop up, but in the meantime, the bots fuel that nostalgia to relax. Here's hoping this game pops off.

Right now the game is simple but the core gameplay is there. The devs seem very dedicated and good-hearted so I genuinely hope this project succeeds. I fear that those who didn't play Battlefield Heroes back in the day will never find this game, so spread the word! I will say that a F2P model might be needed after a while should the game die off, but it is very reasonably priced at the moment. I hope the money they make now will let them keep this game running for a long time to come.

Fantastic spiritual successor to Battlefield Heroes, but it is still clearly in beta. The bones are all there for this to be a really great successor to BFH, but it is not there yet. Most matches are bot matches. Weapon variety is decent, but could be a lot better. I would hope that one day there will be stolen weapons (similar to the Stolen Uber Backscratcher). The maps are great and nearly 1:1 copies of some of the greatest from BFH. The biggest con is that the cosmetic boxes take quite a while to earn and do not have a knock out system. I've gotten two boxes (all earned in-game, no MTX) and both were the same thing. It is a massive miss to not have a knock-out system or at the very least have weighting against earned items. When cosmetics are the only thing to work towards, it feels like garbage to have the same item drop twice and essentially all the time spent be without reward.

The Real Deal We've All Been Waiting For After watching EA slowly kill one of the most unique shooter games of all time, 10-15 years ago, we are back. What this small team of developers have put together so far in early access is incredible and the true successor we have all been waiting for. This game is a steal at this price, it works flawlessly, and any features that are missing there is no doubt in my mind the developers will add within the next year by the official release. There are enough active players that you will be able to find full servers 24/7. It is its own game but it feels similar to what we all remember and i don't think we can ask for any more than what we have here. Lets get this game the recognition it deserves and support this small team of developers who are going to show nearly the most hated video game company in the world how pathetic they've become. 10/10

No players... even on a weekend... The already small player base is split between personal servers filled with bots, instead of a few full servers with people playing. I expected to play with other people, not bots. Even durning a weekend right now, there are barley any players and again these players are split between servers filled with bots.

I was playing Battlefield Heroes until it was closed, then i was playing Revive Heroes (first version of community hosted BFH) that was DMCAed by EA, then i remember kickstarter page of Renegade Line eventually abandoned by devs, now there is Rising Hub project (current community hosted BFH) and very promising Heroes of Valor! Good luck to devs, im enjoying your game very much at v0.1, hope you will continue working on your project!

The game is great, things I would fix would be bringing back the old skill system. It adds a level difficulty and spice that keeps you wanting more. Watching numbers go berrrr if you will. Take a game like Runescape for example. The numbers keep people addicted. Allow me to see progress while playing. Being able to level multiple abilities adds more game time and competition among other players. Even adding different weapons to change in and out or atleast more than what we currently have. I do love all the free cosmetics and i do think they should stay. Going free to play NOW instead of later though would be ideal, ya know before more people buy the game. Give the people who spent cash on the game some in-game goodies to make up for it. Just bring back legit BFH formula and you'll be raking in money and players. The work done here is very impressive and I appreciate even having this playable. Yet I can't help thinking you guys are shooting your self in the foot by not using what has proven to work. Then add your own flare. I love your small dev team and I wish you the best regardless of where this Title goes. (EDIT): I also have Noticed you guys Own both Publisher and Developer and have a good few games in your catalog. I will say that this could be a HUGE Flagship Title for you. Just take the right steps. Bring back the old store and release exclusive skins and weapon skins. I mean why not IF you go free to play. Could have exclusive sprite cosmetics like Bullet Streams or Explosions, Vehicle skins. The list goes on.

It's not a bad game. It's actually quite a good spiritual successor to Battlefield Heroes, which is what I needed. I still must stress that I find the class system limiting, as I often cycle between classes just to play a specific weapon that isn't available to the others. I also find the weapon variety pretty bad so far. But all in all, it shows potential.

It's an homage to Battlefield Heroes, but it is its own game. It is the best of conundrums/fallacies. It's simple to play/start, but oh so sumptuously difficult to master. Also the community is top notch.

This game is right on the cusp of being good, but, unfortunately, doesn't quite make it over the threshold. The TTK is absurdly high (probably the highest I've ever seen in any game), servers are ~80-90% bots, and somehow even though its quite new a huge proportion of the actual players are already high rank super-sweats roaming around invisible with the knife mowing down everyone without issue This game has potential to be a really excellent old fashioned class based deathmatch if the tweak the TTK, continue to add content, and - this is the most important part but is unfortunately beyond the developer's control - manage to develop a community sufficient to ensure actual full servers. Bots are fine to pad things out, I guess, but it just isn't the same as, say, an Enemy Territory match with only human opponents. I'm not going to refund this and intend to change my review if the game acquires a larger playerbase or the developers make some basic changes to the moment-to-moment gameplay, which has huge potential

Solid game just not for me, I think the damage scaling is horrible, having to snipe someone 4-5 times with a kar98 is very annoying, takes an entire mag of your secondary to kill someone. The invis thing is cool but its very annoying.

I recommend it. TL;DR Heroes of Valor is a third-person, team-based shooter with character classes, objective-driven maps, and a wealth of unlockable and in-dev content (impressive for Early Access). Much like Team-Fortress 2 or any Battlefield game. It’s a very well made, but original spiritual successor to the now defunct Free To Play game Battlefield Heroes developed by D.I.C.E and published by E.A in 2008-2009. Some key points that set it apart:

Bot support (great for offline or low-pop times)
Peer-to-peer server structure (for now)
Steam-based progression and unlocks
Rapid, ongoing development with high community visibility
As someone who was an official community moderator for Battlefield Heroes for nearly a decade hosting events, running contests, and collaborating directly with the original D.I.C.E dev team I can say with confidence that Heroes of Valor is the closest spiritual successor to Battlefield Heroes I’ve ever played. No other project has come this close to recreating the magic. The stylized WWII visuals, fast-paced third-person combat, and class-based gameplay are all spot-on. My muscle memory kicked in immediately as the Heavy Gunner. Just a few keybind tweaks, and it felt like I’d stepped right back into an oddly new (and high-definition) but familiar world. Thankfully Heroes of Valor DOES NOT coast on nostalgia alone. I’ve followed its progress since the earliest playtests, and it’s been amazing to see how much passion and polish the devs have poured into it. My daughter and I both love playing, she enjoys simply running around and exploring, which suggests untapped potential for other gamemodes, singleplayer or PvE experiences. The cartoon vector style graphics are well executed and look awesome, they are exactly what you would expect it you were part of a real-time moving cartoon. The Developers maintain a public dev blog via Discord, that is fun to watch and their transparency is a breath of fresh air in today’s gaming landscape. Additionally the Developers were able to get a nice publisher to work with them and together these things show that a great degree of professionalism and prior skill have been put into this game. The $14–$18 USD price tag might be a hurdle for some, especially in an era of "free-to-play everything," (thinly veiled by predatory ads and micro-transactions) much like BFH was... but it’s important to remember that quality indie projects like this need early support to survive. Without an initial investment, launching for free with dedicated servers and anti-cheat would invite chaos and cost a fortune. Simply put Heroes of Valor is not just some cut rate cash grab. As it stands, the game has solid foundations and tons of room to grow. It needs Steam Achievements imo... more cosmetics, vehicles, maps, and other gamemodes would be great additions... However bigger additions and changes like like new gamemodes or potentially large-scale Conquest-style battles would push it even further. Dedicated servers, modern anti-cheat tools, and continued community feedback may be essential to its longevity. It is hard to call, since no one has ever attempted this properly outside of the original game. At least even if the average daily player base dips, bots ensure there's always something to do and a way to earn unlocks. I am not one to stay away from anything due to player numbers, so time will tell what shapes up with this game. Currently though, I think Heroes Of Valor is worth every penny and will only be even more so in the future.

If you were a fan of Battlefield Heroes, you owe it to yourself to give this a shot. If you love World War 2 battle games, this is a cool one with strong roots. This isn’t a cheap knockoff it’s a tribute. A true spiritual successor with a vision of its own.

Game has huge potential, devs need to focus on regular content. For the love of god please don't go down the road of battle passes. Loot crates are a great way to earn cosmetics this can also be incorporated with weapon variants in the future. The more you play the more you can open crates. Hopefully AUS servers can start expanding because this game has given me huge nostalgia with BF Heroes. Would love to see where this game goes towards in the future.

Its working good, no bugs or crashes so far and its fun. Currently its just 4 maps a few guns and few clothes but its fun so far. Currently it feels refreshing to play a old gem like this, i spend a lot of time playing bfh back then and i really miss my tier 1 set (bring it back!). I really hope the devs keep adding stuff and keeping it alive, so this project dont die and suffer from low playercount like RisingHub (48players online on a friday is kinda low)

HOV Sparks that same magic i had in 2009 when Battlefield Heroes dropped. Not only does it keep it classic with its classes but it also allows new stuff to be added to modernize the experience. the bots are exceptionally hard and really allows me to train myself when switching to different weapons and abilities. The new EA status changed a bit bit so far its been perfect. and the price of $15 is really reasonable. all in all a fantastic game

Heroes of Valor is, for better or worse, a borderline fan-recreation of Battlefield Heroes, down to the three classes, aesthetically similar graphical style, small repertoire of weapons and having nearly identical maps to the defunct free-to-play shooter that inspired it. If you're nostalgic for BFH, I 100% recommend this game. It needs more players and I really want it to succeed. But... the game does have a lot of flaws in its current state. 1. Class balance sucks. [strike]Gunners[/strike] Heavies are horrifically underpowered, due to shotguns and fully-automatic weapons having really low damage output and not even being the best close-range spray & pray weapons. [strike]Commandos[/strike] Recons on the other hand are horrifically overpowered to the point where they almost take over the meta. Sniper rifles do far more damage and the class has the ability to camouflage, sneak up on opponents and either poison or stab them to death. As for the [strike]Soldier[/strike] Trooper? They're middle-of-the-pack. They can heal allies and set enemies on fire but their only good damage option is the semi-auto long-range rifle (the M1 Garand and its Axis equivalent.) I remember the classes in BFH having different health values, but every class in HoV starts with and caps at 100 health, so this may also be why balance doesn't feel right. 2. The game has a low player count and needs more players. Bots are one way the devs have masked this, but their AI ranges between pants-on-head stupid and feeling like you're up against aim hackers. 3. I think the points system and how the game calculates objectives and player participation is broken. I have never seen a game so incredibly stingy and inconsistent about rewarding assists in my life. I've had plenty of times where I have dealt substantial damage to an opponent yet another player/bot landed the killing blow and I didn't even get so much as an assist. 4. The game has a severe lack of content in its current state (basically what BFH had a year or two into launch), but this is compounded by the ability for players to vote on what map will be played next. Everybody just votes for Valor Village and it's rare you get to play on any of the other 3 maps. 5. Plane controls are atrocious. I dunno whether it was a keybind mapping issue, or that I should have tried anything other than WASD or my mouse to turn the plane but... planes literally can't turn at all unless you tilt them to an extreme angle and effectively barrel roll your way into a different direction. I do not remember things being this bad in BFH. Still going to recommend this game because these are issues the devs can fix with balance and content updates. Also, if EA and DICE aren't going to revive Battlefield Heroes, I applaud the team at Fancy Cat Interactive turning around and saying "Fine, I'll do it myself."
