In This War Of Mine you do not play as an elite soldier, rather a group of civilians trying to survive in a besieged city; struggling with lack of food, medicine and constant danger from snipers and hostile scavengers. The game provides an experience of war seen from an entirely new angle.

There are so many ways to die and so little resources to keep your suriviors alive. Hunger, fatigue and cold are far away from the only things that will make your playthough a truly hellish exprience. Every day you must make decisions that often lead to unexpected outcomes. War isn't fun or easy, this game does a good job at showing all the hardship people have to go through just to live another day.

You’re not a soldier. You’re not a hero. You’re just trying to make it through one more freezing night without losing your soul. This War of Mine flips the script on war games. It’s slow, heavy, and personal. Every decision weighs on you. Do you break into someone’s home to steal medicine, or let your sick friend die? There are no good answers, only consequences. The gameplay is tight, the atmosphere oppressive, and the emotional impact unforgettable. It doesn’t try to entertain—it tries to make you understand.

Great game. Gives war games a new perspective putting you in place of a civilian(s) trying to survive. And that will lead to moral choices, risky maneuvers, sleepless nights, hunger, depression... The game does have a learning curve, but you'll get the hang of it in you first couple in-game days.

FIrst: I LOVE THIS GAME! Second: The atmosphere in this game is formidable. And it hits the spot in a time when there is unrest in the world. This game gives a moving picture of what it must be like to try to survive. For better or worse. The game also offers ethical dilemmas, where you have to choose the high road - or maybe - choose "it is survival of the fittest"?. It is gripping and also offers moments with a little adrenaline rush. You will regret some decisions - no matter what! Third: This game made me totally addicted! When I finished a game, I couldn't think of anything else but playing it again. I've played over 200 hours, so this is THE ONLY GAME I've played that comes even close to the hours I put in playing "Age of Empires II". Fourth and final: I LOVE THIS GAME!

I honestly don't know why this game is "critically acclaimed" I just don't see it. The game play is a point and click game on the level of a mobile game. and I don't mean that in a positive way. The gameplay loop is lame, there's almost nothing to do in this game. There is no tutorial, and the game is trying too hard to be this dark "hardcore" type of game when the core mechanics of the game doesn't support it. The "gameplay" if you could call it that is too slow even for someone like me who enjoys slow paced rts like games. I don't know why the devs didn't add a simple fast forward button. Combat is....terrible, to put it bluntly. Combat is basically RNG where you're always set to lose. I still couldn't believe my guy, who had a crowbar, lost to a dude with nothing. Characters would often ignore commands and just rush the enemy then stand there like an idiot. I get that the devs are trying to make the player feel underpowered and hopeless, as well as trying to get the message that "violence is bad" but this isn't the way to do it. everything is so tedious in this game, from the crafting to the limited "slots" in your backpack when scavenging. Technical wise, I've had this game crash on me for the 15th time today. I don't know what's causing it, now It won't even start at all. Always unresponding the moment you start it up, a reinstall fixed it thank fully. Honeslty, I got more to complain about but I got this game for less than a buck, so... Yeah. Overall, I just don't see the "Critically acllaimed, indie best seller" on this game. It's basically a mobile game on pc. TLDR: Game is so slow, with very limited gameplay. Saying this game has "gameplay" is generous as it is, and it doens't even compensate by having a good story.

This War of Mine is the kind of game that doesn’t just challenge your strategy skills, it challenges your humanity. The gameplay feels like a classic survival sim. You manage resources, build shelter, scavenge at night, and try to keep everyone alive. But, where most games make survival feel heroic, this one makes it feel heavy. Every decision has weight. Do I steal from an old couple to feed my starving group? Do I risk sending a sick character out into sniper territory for meds? You start questioning yourself. Not just what you can do, but what you should do. The storytelling is incredibly powerful. It doesn’t shove drama in your face. It lets it unfold quietly, naturally, and devastatingly. The atmosphere, the artwork, it all comes together to make this less of a game and more of an experience. War is hell.

Just a sad game talking of war and its consequences to regular people. Just too sad for me to finish it. But still a beautifully sad premise.

Good little indie game but very flawed. There is a fundamental problem: lack of ability to speed up time. This means that you'll spend large amounts of time doing nothing but watching your characters literally do nothing. This is bad game design. Also, every single location on the map you can loot and visit is the same for every single story, so there is extremely little replay value as the only thing that changes is the flavor text and role play of slightly different characters. Was expecting much more in the ways of showing the brutality of war and meaningful choices, events etc. It's fun enough for a single playthrough on the normal mode, and maybe some of the "stories" mode, which have even more problems because the stories often make no sense or are incredibly dull. Get on sale. 5.5/10

Really enjoy this game, after all these years it still holds up. Only negative thing I have to say is that it doesn't play well with controller. Maybe it's just me, but I find it hard to build/upgrade etc. But that's a none issue.

The beauty of this game is - despite the realistic depiction of how people struggle during war, it encourages you to work together and create a safe haven where you can feel at home. More people should play this.

Dont waste your time, this game is bland. The game loop has been done better in every way by sheltered. daytime is just your slow ready up for night time which is the actual game. During night only 1 of 3 people can leave the shelter to scavenge, the other 2 stay back and just get robbed/killed/fend off robbery which you have no actual part in. The scavenging is pretty poor, here are lots of items you need and no way to carry them, here are lots of locations but you can only visit one per night (even if you enter and leave with the entire night time left, your night of scavenging is over). Trade is a joke, a guy comes to your base to sell you things, you cant buy more than 6 slots or 8 slots at a time even though its going in to base inventory, which then means you need to play a juggling act between the value of what you are selling and buying which is entirely unnecessary. Combat is a poorly implemented joke. The radio gives you the same message for 2 days which is normally some trivial crap like 'some guy died' and somehow this helps the mood of your characters? what?. Nah this game sucks donkey balls. Bland, badly implemented good ideas.

This war of mine, a great war simulation game where you are not invincible, you dont respawn, but take care of other people that are in the same situation as you are, its a great game, has amazing progression, the game being more aggressive with the events as the days and the war rages on, i totally recommend it, nothing to lose and for one eur/$ that is a must try !

The is amazing, I got it near release and still come back to this game from time to time. In my opinion its a very enjoyable game and I would recommend it to people who enjoy playing survival/resource management like games. It's really fun and after your first run you can get an understanding on how most things work.

Shit so boring and dull it makes me want to die If thats the way this game conveys "war is hell" message then i did a terrible job, no matter what games are supposed to be fun and engaging, but this isnt it, theres no fun in watching a guy clean rubble with his hands for 1 minute straight to just move forward into next room to be met with same rubble once again,, pointless time waste animation after another, personally id stay away from it, i bought it only because it was on sale

I think I like this game and the concept, however, most of my decisions and outcomes feel made by "luck". I know that "that's war" but as a gameplay experience, even if you try to do things in a good way, the game simply doesn't let you. I still enjoyed it and even bought the DLC stories but yeah... not a fan of those things

Intense and at other times bitterly beautiful, a master at the envision of surviving in a war torn country where your forced to make moral sacrifices and tactical decisions just to survive. Highly recommend for people who want a good blend of realism, survival and resource management.

I love how the story makes me immerse and involved-this games is not just about survival, but how we choose certain choice that defies our morality and standard. I also want to point out how good the character of the story and skills plays amidst of the war. In addition, the different facets of the game and how I want the game to play; I can be bad or the good one.

Great game. Resource management + resource gathering + stealth tactics + amazing atmosphere/soundtrack + meaningful story, especially if you play the more challenging scenarios, in which you are guaranteed to have to make tough decisions. If you like games like Frostpunk, this one is for you.

In the game you are no soldier, not a person who fights for their country. Instead, you are a person who will fight for your own life, and a person who will fight for the lives of others around you. A good example of what non-combatants/civvies experience during wartime.
Achievement Hunting Rating 2/5
The important thing here is the feeling the game conveys about war-torn experiences and that much of the DLC cost goes to charity. Now for achievements, you will need all the DLC to get them and will have to play through scenarios many times to get all the different endings. It does get repetitive but the first playthroughs of the scenarios are really compelling.

Game reeeeeaaaaalllly fancies wasting your time with long drawn out "please read this dialogue" type of scenes. If a character dies in story mode theres no "retry mission", nope, instead you have to sit through the slide show every time before it asks if you wanted try again from the previous day. It seems to be a fun game but REEEEALLLLYY wants you to feel sentimental bout shit so everything is slow and drawn out. Good game, just really annoying "PLEASE OH PLEASE PLAYER FEEL EMOTION AT THIS SAD DIALOGUE THATS FIVE WORDS LONG BUT HANGS ON SCREEN FOR 30 SECONDS!"....

Shit game, don't buy. Yeah, the plot get's you interested and it hooks you on exploring new locations and scavenges, BUT the mechanics are terrible and full of bugs, which ruins the whole experience. - when they say on the radio that tobacco is rare and is now valuable goods, it does not give you more value on trades - when you go to the military outpost, the description says soldiers are willing to give more for cigs and booze but again not extra trade bonus for these items - you cannot speed up which makes the whole gameplay tedious and excrutiating at some points - you give meds or bandages to your people and they are stuck in this endless loop of terminally ill or sick or badly wounded and never recover, even if you have an abundance of meds and give it to them several days in a row. I mean, maybe it's just meant to be this way but it still kinda sucks because you cannot survive long enough to reach any final of the plot/story. - you board up the whole building and get an alarm door, but it's still not enough to prevent raids. there's not even mention that your alarm door ringed and that made the scavengers go away. Kinda stupid and pointless. So yeah... the whole idea of strategizing and planning for surviving kinda goes down the drain because you don't get any of these bonuses and everything just seems so random and you're basically just clicking stuff over and over again trying to reach something but you never do cause it's just mostly dependent on RnG/luck. Without the speeding up ability this just becomes so annoying to play. Sure, it's an interesting game because it's different, but that's just not enough when you have this many bugs. Worth it for 1 euro, which is what I paid for it. Otherwise, probably not.

if i hadnt paid $2.30 USD id actually be mad, the charaters are all weak willpowered between not being able to go without a smoke, coffee, or hooch. it having to be their therapist because they are "Broken" mentaly to have to defend themselfs. example, dude shoots a 12g at me, i stab him any normal person would go damn glad to be alive, nah not your guy they instantly go into "its hopeless i survived", not to mention, ive been useing the save feautures like storeing items back into someth to collect eaier later well now after a day of playing with that found a bug where everything youve stored at that place will just disappear, have fun if you can but this is a good game with trash mechnics

This War of Mine hits different. One minute you're feeling hopeless and scared, the next you're proud of yourself for finding a can of food. It's an emotional rollercoaster that never stops. The game looks amazing, all sketchy and gray, like a sad painting. But when you find something good (like a working heater), it feels like Christmas morning. The art really makes you feel the despair and those tiny moments of hope. You'll get attached to your characters, even the useless ones. Every choice hurts, steal food and feel guilty, or don't steal and watch your people suffer. It's heavy stuff. You'll feel anxious, sad, relieved, and guilty all at once. Sometimes you'll even laugh at how absurd it all is. What gets me is how it makes you care so much. When someone in your group is sad or sick, you actually feel bad. When they're happy, you feel happy. It's weird how a game can mess with your emotions like that. Playing this is exhausting but in the best way. You'll stress over every decision, celebrate tiny victories. It's not fun in the normal way—it's more like watching a really good but sad movie that you can't stop thinking about.
