Do not buy this game. They released it with nothing. The road map has nothing major planned until next year while the updates just keep getting delayed. This is a scam.

Do not buy this game. They made a very bare bones rip off of other crafting games and have a product roadmap all the way out to 2028 for basic additions to BASIC skills. Feels like a money grab that abuses the 'early access' moniker.

I'm writing this while it's still in early access, so this might be outdated by the time someone gets to this review. I'll do my best to update it once it's fully out.
Let's start with the positives. This game is very addicting, the grind is just as fun as the original MMORPG. It's stable, which is always a positive for early access, despite many of it's over-tuned or half-baked systems. The building mechanic is one of my favorite systems in this game and it provides much more flexibility than you'd imagine. The progression system, while in it's infancy, is fun and doesn't feel too lacking. They provide a decent amount of leveling up in the beginning which can be a nice hit of dopamine, like when you set up new game account in the RS MMO and level up from 1. I like the idea of the melee combat system, it's very fun being able to parry and dodge during combat.
Now for the negatives/constructive criticism. The hunger and thirst mechanics for survival are a chore. I like being able to cook different things and make different infusions, but at the end, you have to eat and drink every minute to prevent the fatigue and slower recovery that comes with hunger and thirst. The constant dragon attacks are annoying, especially since it's a poison dragon, so just getting hit means you'll die in about 10 seconds unless you have the anti-poison status from a potion, which are hard to come by already due to the scarcity of marrentil, especially considering that there's an entire area COVERED IN POISON. The biggest problem this game has is that gathering and refining resources are complete chores. Sure, water is super easy to come by and purify, making infusions isn't hard, farming sheep isn't difficult by any means, but when your meter goes down as fast as it does, it starts to get pretty expensive towards your time. For example, making string is pretty easy. Flax is plenty in two areas and 3 coarse fur can also produce 1 thread, it starts to add up when a ton of recipes require 3-20 coarse threads. The storm touched highlands is my favorite yet most loathed area. I like the plentiful raw materials! I can't stand the constant attacks from rams, the blue goblin guys, and plants. It's really easy to just trigger 3 enemies to start attacking you both close range and long range. The frequent thunder strikes are kinda awful too, especially since they tend to strike you at the worst times (mid air or in combat.) While I like the idea of the combat system, it's either way to easy or way too hard to fight enemies. If you're two tiers ahead of the enemies of the area, it doesn't matter how much you get hit, you can annihilate the enemies pretty fast. But if you're even just one tier removed, the combat gets unnecessarily hard. Fighting one enemy is fun, parrying and swinging back are my favorite things to do. But if even one more character fights you, now you have to roll and shield a ton more while your energy depletes FAST. And if you though that your energy depletes fast, imagine how annoying it is when you're really thirsty or hungry for not consuming food and water every minute. I'll have to dodge 3 times away from berserkers so that they don't do a third of my health each hit, and can't even fight back because I'm already out of energy.
If you have some extra cash and really like RuneScape, you won't regret buying it, even in it's infancy. If you're not a fan of survival games, then this game will make you rip your hair out. I'm excited to see how Jagex continues to improve this game.
Edit: I fixed some misspellings and bad phrasing. After the newest update (0.8), they made it so that your hunger and thirst deplete significantly slower near a claimed bed. This is exactly the type of QOL update we needed. Same with the stacks being increased to specific numbers, and the weights are a bit better balanced. I really appreciate this update.

TLDR to save some folks time:
1. Play it if you're the somewhat patient type, or if you really like to build things.
2. Don't play it if you're not very patient and you like to rush through content.
I would like to start off by saying I would recommend this game to other players who have similar interests to my own. With that being stated, I went into this game knowing this was early access, knowing my PC hasn't been upgraded since 2017, and knowing nothing about RuneScape. My plan was to play this game at a snail's pace so I would not race through what little overall content there is in terms of game progression.
The very first thing I noticed was how similar this game was to Valheim in terms of building and biomes. But that's about where the similarities end because there is no sailing, nor are there procedurally generated maps if you start a new game. The combat mechanics are simple and they work, but are nothing remarkable really. The game is clearly not optimized, but even though I have not upgraded my PC in quite some time, the game runs surprisingly well on my old rig...other than a few exceptions when teleporting to one of my large bases which takes a minute or so to load. There are also rare occasions when my character will freeze while out and about in the game, but still acceptable for early access.
The building is what I have been mainly focused on, and obviously where the majority of my game time has been spent. I have not yet fought Velgar because I know once I do, there won't be anything else to do other than build things until the devs push an update.
Now, the annoying things. The food and drink consumption rate in the game borders on ridiculous. Not even hummingbirds eat and drink as much as your character will. During building, the basic snap doesn't always basically snap, and may require some patience until you maneuver just the right way. If you try and destroy a building item too close to a roof corner or a crafting station, you will destroy those things and maybe even a foundation before you destroy what it is you're wanting to destroy. Torches can't be placed on walls if there are foundations on the other side, so you will either need to destroy the foundation, place the torch, then rebuild the foundation, use a ground torch instead, or snap a small pole to the wall or ceiling as an alternate place to mount the torch.
The oak floor brown coupled with the orange lighting by the normal colored torches makes everything look a bit too orange and less flame lit. I hear they're changing the color of the oak in the next update, so we'll see. You can try mixing different colored torches in some areas to break up the orange washout.
The only other negative thing I have to say about the game is how very little content there actually is during Early Access. Had I not intentionally throttled my expectations, I would have been sorely disappointed. This is why I chose to spend more time building than anything else.
I am not familiar with the developer, nor have I ever played RuneScape. I see people commenting on how little the devs communicate, but I read a post here on Steam from the development team just last month, so I'm not sure what people's expectations are on the frequency of communication.
There were also layoffs, but according to Jagex, those layoffs did not happen on the development side, and were more non customer-facing oriented. Either way, yes it does suck when companies layoff employees, but it happens everywhere, not just video game companies.
That's about it for me. I have been having a great time and I look forward to seeing what new content gets pushed soon. For the money I spent on the game, I would already consider the amount of hours I have put into the game worth it. It's all in what you are looking to get out of it.

What everyone needs to understand is this game is very early access! The devs see all the reviews saying they are just trying to make a quick buck and they have addressed this comment numerous times. Most comments that are negative are from people with 100-200 hrs In the game(which is a lot) I cleared the game in maybe 12 hrs 100% complete and spent another 20 hours just building and having fun. So someone that has that kind of time into the game(100+hrs) obviously liked the game enough to play it for an additional 80+ hrs after beating it. Just give it time this game will be amazing after they get their full dev team!

The game concept itself is fun and has TONS of potential to be a great game. But the devs don't deliver. At all. Half the skills aren't even available, combat is clunky, the building isn't as nearly as extensive as it should be, there are very few ways to actually get good gear, and the mobs are way too strong in some parts. Found it incredibly frustrating.
Now, for all the lackluster aspects of this game, I DO think this game could be good. It needs MONTHS if not years more development to flesh out some features and do more beta tests with players. All of it had potential, but in its current state, I do not recommend.

Game was fun, if not unfair at times in certain areas.
Do I recommend it? for 30 bucks? no... There are much better, more finished, and better optimized games I can recommend at that price tag. If it's ever on sale for $15, that's worth it. If it's ever on sale for $10, it's an amazing game at that price.
I'll play it again once I feel enough updates released. Once I feel like I got my $30 worth, I'll update my review.
The game is good otherwise, I really enjoyed the content that is available. It got super laggy at the end around the time I had to kill the dragon because I had decided to spent 15 hours collecting resources to build up a nice decorated base with multiple buildings. The game became so unplayable and laggy, even when im not near the base that I had to take down that base as it was impossible to kill the dragon with all the lag. It has had an update for people to change graphics settings, but im running a 4070 Super, I shouldnt have that much stutter.
Anyways, A LOT more content is needed before I feel like I can recommend them at the asking price.

I know this is Early Access, so I'll be gentle. I refunded this game close to the 2 hour mark. Why? Let me explain:
The game is more of a taste of what is to come...and I'm not impressed. It feels like Ark, but not as good. I feel as if this game is more for the nostalgia for Runescape players. It's got survival aspects to it (Hunger, Water, Sleep), but none of those really feel impactful. It is extremely easy to manage all of those stats, so in the end it was more of, "Oh, I'm starving and need water. Let me down 30 berries and some boiled water that I got from walking 2 feet. Or maybe I'll eat rat meat that is extremely plentiful as well as the random chickens everywhere."
You have a lot of skills to level just like in Runescape and it's the typical grind, but easier....a lot easier. Not a gripe by any means. There is building and crafting, but this all feels exactly like any other survival game. Fighting is easy and you only have access to a sword and shield/knife at the moment with more promised to come.
In short, I feel like this game doesn't know what it wants to be and has different styles mixed in with the Runescape design and feel. The UI feels clunky and has extremely small text along with weird inventory screens and utility bar. The graphics aren't bad, pretty typical for this genre.
I just really wasn't wow'd by anything and I was bored within the refund window time...thankfully. I think I'll let this game cook for awhile before I decide to try it again, if I ever want to. I honestly ran to this game because it's Runescape, but was utterly disappointed with what I saw (Again, I know it's EA).
If you're looking for a survival/crafting game, look elsewhere...there's plenty around that play and feel a lot better than this one.
Imo; Cash grab targeting RS players and lovers.

I would not buy this game even on sales. Not until the game had keep up with their content. Their lack of content is worst imo(for its price tag).
I purchase this on day 1. Finished the game for like a week. Im not too grindy person. The game is fun, graphic is nice, mechanic is nice too. Just that..
If i can compare it to valheim that way cheaper than this game, valheim is much more satisfying. There is lot of things i can explore, much more content than this game even before their next biome update.

It certainly looks like it's GOING to be an enjoyable game, but I wouldn't recommend purchasing yet. for a beta, it was certainly fun, I would definitely not have paid as much as I did for the game given the amount of content, but I would totally pay the current price for what I EXPECT the 1.0 game to be.
I would also argue that disregarding two or 3 runescape-related names, this has almost nothing to do with the runescape title, which was confusing. I was under the impression that this would be a little more relevant, but it currently comes across as a reskinned valheim clone with minimal references to OSRS or RS3
I am keen to see what a finished (or more complete) product looks like.

This game is looking like a really trash survival game with little to nothing to do with Runescape. I was charitable at first. However, after seeing the "Roadmap" i'll pull no punches. So many opportunities missed. I could go on for hours about how to integrate Runescape into a suvival MMOish experience. The game should have launched with no less than 50 enemy types, a slayer skill, and combat skills. Until i see better. This is a shameless cashgrab with Runescape on the box.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds – A Promising World Still in Its Infancy
TL;DR

Feels more like a generic survival game with RuneScape paint

Launch was way too early – buggy, unbalanced, and lacking content

Stability has improved (as of 0.8.1), but the game still feels like an alpha

RuneScape elements are present but shallow and underused

Roadmap looks promising for Q3 2026, but light on details

Potential is there if devs lean more into RuneScape-style content

Worth keeping an eye on, but not worth investing in yet unless you're a hardcore fan
As a long-time fan of RuneScape, I was genuinely excited about Dragonwilds. The promise of combining the nostalgic charm of RuneScape with a new genre sounded ambitious and refreshing. And in some ways, it delivers. The world feels familiar, the art direction taps into classic RuneScape aesthetics, and the soundtrack has the right nostalgic notes. There’s no doubt that the essence of RuneScape exists here—but it’s buried beneath an experience that feels half-formed.
A RuneScape Shell Wrapped in Survival Game Tropes
The survival aspects, unfortunately, take center stage far too often. Gathering wood, managing hunger, crafting tools—it all feels very by-the-numbers and, frankly, uninspired. Instead of drawing players into the rich world of Gielinor with engaging lore and mechanics, the gameplay loop leans too heavily on genre clichés that we've seen a dozen times before.
What makes RuneScape special—its quirky quests, skill systems, and social spaces—is still missing or only barely peeking through. Dragonwilds could thrive if it focused more on those unique elements rather than trying to be another generic survival sandbox.
Content: Severely Underwhelming in Current State
Despite its branding, the game is content-light. As of update 0.8.1, stability has improved somewhat, and it’s more playable than it was at launch—but it still feels like you’re wandering a hollow, early-alpha build. There’s just not enough to do. Systems exist, but they feel undercooked. Biomes feel samey, and progression is shallow.
The release was premature, plain and simple. Bugs and imbalances riddled the launch experience. It felt like the game was rushed out the door to capitalize on hype, rather than being the polished love letter to RuneScape fans it could have been.
Signs of Life: Dev Response and Roadmap
One positive note is that the development team seems to be listening. Community feedback has started shaping future plans. Since the roadmap was finally published, we know that Q3 2026 could be a turning point. If the team delivers on their promises, we might finally see 50+ hours of worthwhile content.
That said, there’s a lack of detail about what that content includes. Promises are easy—execution is what will matter. And right now, it still feels like they’re retrofitting RuneScape into a survival game rather than building a RuneScape-inspired world from the ground up.
Final Thoughts
I truly want this game to succeed. There’s magic here—latent potential that could blossom if nurtured properly. The RuneScape DNA deserves better than to be a coat of paint slapped on a survival framework. With time, and the right focus, Dragonwilds could evolve into something great.
For now, though, it’s dry. It’s sparse. And unless you’re a diehard fan looking to support development in its infancy, it may be best to watch from the sidelines until more meaningful content arrives.

Unpolished, unbalanced, lacking in quality of life.
This game plays like a beta but pretends to be in early access, combat is clunky and every aspect of it and exploration seems to be made to punish any class that isn't a heavily armored warrior.
Take the humble mage, for example, a significant portion of the early game is in a swamp where you can't sprint, jump, or dodge. The only way for a mage to not get hit is to dodge or run. Now's a good time to mention that dodging is completely useless. By the time you stand back up, the enemy is already on top of you again. Meaning that the solo mage is only viable when you can kill the enemy before they can get to you. So if you're attacked while looting a chest, all you can do is try to put enough distance between you and the enemy to do some damage. A spellblade style would be a cool idea to help mages in solo mode alternate between ranged and close combat. Even Dragon Age: Veilguard managed to get that much right.
Next the quest sends you, as you might expect, into a higher level area. How do you get the gear for that area? Well, you go deeper into the area which you are completely underleveled for and mine up the materials there. If that sounds strange to you, you might have played a videogame at some point in your life. This is what I'm referring to when I say the game is unbalanced.
As for quality of life, forget about it. The tutorial mostly only teaches things I could've figured out on my own (magic is the only thing I'd have needed help with) and doesn't help with anything that actually did confuse me. The only signage for progress is just the main quest dragging you through more dangerous areas. That would normally be fine if the game followed the common sense standard of [Find material in areas that you can survive in to make stuff to survive in more dangerous areas]. After hours of searching for anything that could make better gear, a quick google search told me to go into an area I can't survive in without better gear.
Another QoL sore spot is climbing. THERE IS NO CLIMBING. Your character can jump, but not very high without magic, and you're pretty much forced to run around every obstacle. This game would benefit immensely from a climbing mechanic that consumes stamina.
My last QoL complaint is spellcasting. Instead of having spells on keybinds, you have to pull up a spell wheel to cast anything, making it tricky to do in combat.
All in all, game is trash, and I hate that it wasted so much of my time to realize that because I can't get a refund now.

Maybe I was burnt out from other games, or just not feeling it after work, but I was let down with this game. I understand that it's alpha/beta, but it just felt empty. The skill trees I wanted to dabble in, weren't a part of the game yet, and that made progression feel like a chore. I feel like there is a strong game here, I've been rooting for it for so long, there just isn't enough here to sink my teeth into. I have friends who play this daily with others, there just isn't enough yet to keep my attention. I've had my fair share of survival games, I'm keeping my eye on this one, but at the end of the day, I don't feel like the content justifies the cost of the game.

I've spent many hours with similar survival games like Valheim, and I was curious to see what RuneScape: Dragonwilds had to offer. Unfortunately, in its current state, the experience is underwhelming.
The combat is clunky, slow, and unresponsive. Animations take too long, and there’s very little sense of weight or flow to attacks. This makes even basic encounters feel frustrating instead of fun.
Exploration and gameplay loop feel empty and unrewarding, and while there’s potential in the world design, it still lacks polish and depth.
That said – I understand this is Early Access, and I really hope the developers are working hard to improve the game. There's a foundation here that could grow into something worthwhile with time, care, and community feedback.
I'll be following future updates, but for now, I can’t recommend Dragonwilds in its current state.

Dont even get me started on the fact the palisade walls dont even have proper doors. its literally just 2 wooden doors and it just looks sad. really disappointed in the amount of time we had to wait for the new update just for it to be this small.

If I wasn't past 2 hours I'd refund this game. Never have I ever made it 30 levels into almost every stats and been sent on a wild chase with no direction(RuneScape bs) have to build a base that can then be attacked at any time while no quick travel or mount to get around the map that's very large all while random "huntings" happen as well where a army finds and tracks you anywhere you are. All before even finishing the first quest because again...no direction.
O and the final straw was the level 4 abyssal demon that can literally teleport and chase you across the map in the area you have to wander around to find the random shit for the quest with no direction. After dying once to it I run back and get my stuff. Bam teleports out of nowhere and slaps me down before I get out of the area. At this point my character is thirsty and tired so I lay in bed to rest while I click off the alarm to dryer. And I come back to a army of goblins destroying my house so I die to them too cause I got no gear. They destroyed the respawn bed so I had to run back from starting area only to get "hunted" before I get back to my body that I ran so far to get to only to get killed off cause I got no gear from being dead.
All before my first quest finished 😑

After 25 hour, and finishing the game at least one, i'm trying so hard to like this game.
The good:
- nice music
- good ambient
- everything looks line
The bad: (where do i even start)
Combat:
Horrendous - i feel like i'm playing gothic 3. Attack animations stun you in a bad way. You stun something until it dies, and it does the same to you.
Every time you fight multiple enemies it's like a lotto on how stupid the AI can be to your advantage.
They added magic. Spoiler alert, it's sh*t. You have a blink, that .... can't.. blink through enemies... So if you fight something and turn around and there's another enemy and you blink and it's in your way, you... get stuck in it. Stuck. Like 2 seconds stuck.
MEELE IS GODMODE. You want to finish this game fast? meele build, get a shield, tank and spank.
CLUNKY as FUUUUUUUUU. Clunky, very. it's like you're moving a lawnmower. in a bathtub. willed with ice.
Crafting:
Brother, you play the first 2 chapters. You have primitive gear. You get to the 3rd zone and the mobs there are on steroids. You also get ganked constantly by animals. you can't outrun most things so you die, and you have to do a corpse run with just your armor on (yes you drop weapons too)
The recipes for potions/teas/consumables DON'T TELL YOU WHAT THEY DO.
Walking simulator if you don't have enough luck to get bases in good spots. In the last zone i ended up putting a base on some rocks so that i can run there like a b*tch every time i get swamped by mobs. Thank GOD the AI is dumb as rocks.
Quests:
Might as well not have them tbh.
Boss fight at the end:
This is not a spoiler but, if you don't have the quest item with you (for whatever reason) and you TP to the top, you ... can't get back.... you need to jump off and die.
Tip:
1. Dying to poison? Get anti poison potions, it literally negates anything (even poison dragon attacks wink wink)
2. Get a 2h meele wep. Get Air weapon enhancement. Get teas for stamina and attack. Go to town on hordes of mobs by spinning around. gg
3. Get the whip (zone 4 has a boss, you can't miss it tbh) and spam mouse wheel click. gg ez.
4. Cheese the game, try to get heavy armor asap to negate meele / ranged hits and ninja farm mats to get gear. Why no magic? If you meet 2 druids you're dead anyway at that point so just try to run to where you can get corpse without getting aggro.
If you make your main point in the game fighting monsters, at least work on that clunky ass combat man... there are other games out there, survivals, i sank 100's of hours into and at least the fighting gives you the possibility to have fun. Not like this, where you either steamroll everything in a stunlock with max attack speed possible or they just wipe the floor with you multiple times .

This game is a lot of fun, yes they need more content, yes they need tweaks and QOL updates, but I think everyone needs to relax a little, the game was shadow dropped just under 2 months ago and the work that Jagex has done for an out-of-the-blue game is fantastic to say the least, if you're a fan of OSRS/RS3 and you've played games like The Forest, Rust or ARK, this should come pretty natural to you. I've personally enjoyed every minute of it and can't wait to see what else they bring to the table in future updates.
A lot of developers bring out games that are 4% finished and hide it under 'Early Access' for a cash grab that 9 times out of 10 ends up going nowhere, I have faith in Jagex to deliver a stellar game from the foundations of RS: Dragonwilds so far.
TLDR; Great game, needs work which will come with time, solid foundation.

This is from someone brand new to runescape and this game, aside from the controversy about the dev's not keeping their promise (?) . (I don't know much about, so this is more about the game itself).
The TLDR is it s a meh to nope rating from me, not the worst but not great either, still need a lot of work to be done. I love the game and the open world survival genre, so I hope for the better.
1) Why is there no cooldown or breaks between base attacks, hunting (small groups attacking you at random) and dragon attacks? These can happen back to back. Also, why is there no wait between annoucing and the actual attack? Enemies spawn right next to you.
2) The character feels like crap to play. Your character refuses to stop when performing attack animation to dodge unless you get hit (in which you get stagger) or the animation is completed. Also, enemy attack (both range and melee) easily staggers you. You are basically the strength and hp of 1 enemy unit. If more than 3 attacks you, unless you can ambush them or get them in a chock point, you are dead.
3) Items weight way too much. Fur/Skin can weight like .4 to 3lb each, which one doesn't sound like a lot but you have your equipment, potions and other tools, and other loot, it adds up quick. The devs did apprently balance it, but seems like items weight did increase more than decrease. Also, collecting item is a hassle, you don't get much and you have to angle it correctly to pick it up.
4) This one is one that has to change. On death you drop everything (except armor and runes). It makes going back to your grave a pain in the ass. Enemies are often on your way back and sometimes camp your grave. Yeah, good luck getting your stuff from the group that just 3 shot you with no weapon.
5) Armor and skill tree feels pointless. You do get some fun skills and makes your gameplay easier but that's it. Your character is still made of paper, the enemy can almost always 3 shot you, there's always random attacks out of nowhere.
6) Why can enemies move and attack while the game is loading and kill me when I can't? Did the devs even properly test this game out?

Don't waste your money till there is more to the game.
Is this a Runescape game? No.
Is it a good open world survival builder? Also no.

Very poor graphic optimization runs like crap on my 7800xt, they have not updated it for months. I saw other comments mentioning this, should not have ignored.

Too expensive for the amount of content available.
Seems like a money grab at the moment.
Should have had at least another year or 2 of development.
The new updates are very lackluster and disappointing.
The current state of the game is approx. 5-10% of what you would expect from a survival game. Even for early access this is not enough.

Do you want to gather build skill and craft to survive in this Co-op survival crafting game? Well you're going to have to find new friends because you won't have friends after they play this game. This game is lackluster and way too early access to be seeing the light of day especially from an established studio like jagex. The game is simply not far enough along for public consumption. Anyone that tells you otherwise has nostalgia goggles on. This one needs more time in the oven or better yet go play valheim or enshrouded. Better games by new developers.

Has no content updates. The first actual one is planned in December 2025...... 8 and a half months after it went live.

The bones are there. Well... not literally. Where's my prayer stat?
Magic and Ranged aren't included yet, so wait off before you full clear this game.
Building is fun, engaging, and skill related with the support mechanic. I've seen a lot of people complaining that they don't understand it/it's too convoluted, but it follows some basic principles:
Build supports early, from the ground up, or they wont count.
Pay attention to the highlighted build piece when placing structure, that is the piece you've anchored your structure to. That anchor point may not be supported from the bottom, which can lead to uneven support on higher levels of the structure.
Wiping your build gives back 100% of the materials used to create the structure.
BUILD IN FREELOOK IS A LITERAL SPELL>>> USE IT.

I refunded because the initial quest line to learn how to do stuff felt very dated. I figured if the starting area is not polished enough to feel like a 2025 game it was only going to go downhill from there.

I wish i could recommend this game but i cannot do it.
Sure everyone says its still early access but i mean come on... 29.99 for what?
Basic skills and other things are planned to release a year from now?
I would recommend to wait with buying this game for late 2026 or even 2027 to actually have the basic content that was talked about from the start.
Dont be a fool like me.

This game has the same format/gameplay as Valheim but is significantly worse, with the addition of utility spells which are cool and useful at first, but don't have a significant impact on the game itself after the first few uses, the movement feels clunky, with the jumping possibly being the worst I've ever seen in a game, the combat is awful, enemies will lock on and lunge at you even if you are very far away, which makes it so you can't play around with spacing (think New World GreatAxe on release) and have to rely solely on blocking or evading, but with the amount of stamina consumption from evading and the chip damage from blocking, it makes fighting multiple enemies feel unfairly difficult, I like difficult combat, with my favorite and most played series of games being all dark souls games + Elden Ring, 100%ing all of them, but the combat in this game doesn't feel hard in a fair way, it feels more like stat checks that are placed to make sure you don't venture too far ahead instead of challenges that are meant to be learned from and eventually beaten by skill or persistence, on top of that, the enemies in question aren't even special enemies, they are your average random mob, which means when you kill one all you get is a little bag with some small amount of materials in them which you could have gotten more of in the time it takes you to kill the mob by just farming the world, there are also what I assume are buggs with knockdowns, where if you knock an enemy down they will sometimes stand back up immediately and attack very quickly, almost as if they are removing the CC to hit you, which leads to very frustrating deaths from getting one shot by an enemy that should have been cc'd. That aside, the game does have a nice artstyle with a lot of beautiful sceneries and the possibility of making good looking bases, however, most of the later areas had way to high of a mob density, making it really hard to find a place to build a base that wasn't right next to where a bunch of mobs spawn, it would be nice to have the better looking areas have less mobs or have the mobs be concentrated in tighter packs so there are more places where you could build a base.
Overall, my experience with the game was pretty bad, most of the time I spent either frustratedly running back to my tomb to get my stuff back only to get one-shot by a druid and it's poison or a wolf that teleports across the map to bite me, and the rest of the time spent mining ore/chopping wood/gathering plants to upgrade my gear. The only rewarding experience was fighting and beating the abyssal demon in the first swamp as soon as I unlocked it, as the boss didn't seem to have the same lunging effect as other mobs and it's teleport attack, though fast, could be reacted to, it was a hard but fair boss for someone starting off in the game, the version of it that you encounter later in the second swamp seems to be the same so it was not really a challenge as by that point I was already geared and killed him in a couple of seconds without taking any damage, I think this version should be made a little harder, either changing the timing on the attacks, the attack pattern or even at least buffing it's stats, this is however overshadowed by the fact that killing it literally does not give you anything, as the materials it drops can't be used without first unlocking a recipe in a lategame vault, making the rewarding feeling of defeating a challenging boss turn to disappointment after your realize you did that for nothing.
Though the combat and movement are really bad and not enjoyable at all, if the game at least had some sort of farming mechanics, such as having farm animals or planting, then maybe you could enjoy it as a farming sim type of game, but that is currently not the case, meaning there is just no reason to play this over other similar games.
With all this in mind, I cannot recommend this game. It is early access so maybe this will all be fixed at some point but it's just not fun right now.

Absolutely one of if not the worst survival games i have played, should've known better coming from a pathetic company like Jagex. Game was released in a half-baked stage, poorly developed, and extremely underwhelming with copy and paste mobs, extremely poor combat system, levelling system and as many others have said they are only here to take your money and not deliver on quality. All while hiding behind their "Alpha" and "Beta" releases. This is typical of Jagex, dont expect a fully released game, they have zero ability to handle a game of this calibre and once again they have dissapointed their playerbase through lies, radio silence and underwhelming updates.

I like the game. That's why it pains me to give a negative review. I would totally even buy a copy for my friend BUT.... here's why I can't do it just yet :
1. Me and my friend have a low tolerance towards babysitting our characters. You have TWO death bars in the game : Thirst and Hunger. Currently there is no way to slow it down or turn it off completely ( like in Enshrouded with Custom Server options. )
Heck, food itself doesn't even increase your STAMINA bar or HP bar?... Doesn't provide you with speed buffs etc... This is especially annoying when farming wood / ore OR Crafting / Building. You still have to babysit your character. Games like Valheim will drop your HP to low but won't kill you. I wish they could change that or give us the option to play the way we want.
2. Magic system sucks. I'm sorry but having CRAFTABLE ammo for Wands / Magic spells is just.... annoying. What happened to MANA / MP ? This was really annoying in Enshrouded and sure as heck it's annoying here! Just give me infinite spells and mana potions / mana regen food. Seriously.
3. Levelling sucks. Yes you get spammed with LEVEL UP title for every little thing you do... BUT YOU CAN'T DISTRIBUTE ANY POINTS AND THERE IS NO SKILL TREE either! WHAT?! It's all linear. It's all lukewarm... every level gives me 1% dmg or something else trivial. Where is the BUILD VARIETY in that? Only by USING GEAR player's can customize their gameplay. Other than that Levelling feels anti-climactic. I like my skill trees as much as I like levelling my LUCK for that juicy critical damage boost... but not in this game.
4. Inventory SUCKS. Why there is no CHARACTER SCREEN where I can equip SHIELD's or HAVE A SECONDARY LOADOUT? Not in this game. You have to place SHIELD on the action bar because EVERYTIME YOU SWAP for something else AND THEN SWAP FOR MELEE WEAPON.... Your shield will be unequipped. So you either have to go to menu to equip shield again ( and that is not what you want to do in the middle of the combat ) OR place shield on an ACTION bar and use it.
Just let my character ALWAYS use shield with the last melee one handed weapon! Or give us a proper character screen with loadouts we can change on the fly! Like melee or archery.
5. It's GRINDY. From building, to repairs all takes tonnes of materials. That however is tricky to balance and in the end I can live with it ( Played Enshrouded and Valheim and they get pretty grindy... ).
6. Enemies don't drop weapons / armours.... you either find recipes in chests or unlock it by finding a new materials. I like my loot and sadly it's pretty lukewarm experience here...
7. Performance on 2K highest settings is pretty good BUT there is no reason to use so much of my PC resources for the game that looks like... well.... just OK.
8. Epic Online Services. Don't want it, just let me use Steam to play with friends. Don't know anyone from Epic and don't want to use their services / accounts.
Other than that, I enjoyed action combat ( more than in Enshrouded may I add! ) exploration and even monster designs! Goblins yay!
If they rectify some of the issues I have with the game or give us proper modding / server customisation then I can see myself sinking a lot of hours in this game and even invite some friends. Until then the review stays negative and I hope Dev's will take this as a feedback. Thanks for reading

I've basically done everything this game has to offer, Crystal bow not being infinite, Having durability AND NEEDING ARROWS is DIABOLICAL. Game stinks. It's fun until you blow through everything major in a couple of hours, I spend WAAAY longer than i should had in this game doing every single little thing i could. it's empty... like BIIIG empty, repetitive and no where NEAR enough content or map size to justify the price.
EA or not. With Jagex and Runescape at their back this is such a dissapointment. IF and i mean BIIG IF! They add all the missing runescape content and add more to do, I will reinstall but until this R.I.P HUGE POTENTIAL....

Even though its early access if plays as a super generic survival game, i dont see anything that makes it stand out at all. At this point you could download any survival game, put runescape music on youtube in the background, and have the exact same experience.

Felt a lot like Valhiem which is cool but I think a lot of people will expect this to be more complete then it is right now even in early access. The best time to buy and do a play through is in a year or so after some major updates(mostly the skill tree) and a sale.
