As someone who really enjoyed This War of Mine, Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days immediately grabbed my attention — and clearly, the developers took inspiration from it. The looting mechanics, line of sight, and overall survival tension feel familiar, now reimagined in a zombie-infested world. Overall, I liked the game. It doesn’t break new ground, but its similarity to This War of Mine was enough to draw me in. Still, there are areas where the experience feels underdeveloped — likely due to the early access state, but worth mentioning. The main loop is simple: loot, improve your shelter, survive, and eventually escape the city. But right now, the game feels a bit hollow. There’s no meaningful interaction between characters. They have backstories, but they don’t evolve. Events during scavenging — even something as serious as killing someone — trigger no visible emotional response, aside from the “Guilt” trait. In such a minimalistic structure, the strength lies in how well you flesh out the spaces between those basic elements. That’s where Our Darkest Days currently struggles. After 10 hours, I don’t think I’d get a very different experience on a second run. The characters just don’t feel human enough to form any emotional attachment. I also reached two of the game’s endings. While there are multiple outcomes, the final result screen didn’t seem to reflect the actual journey — how many survivors I lost, who made it to the end, or the choices I made. No matter how I finished, the ending felt the same, which was a bit anticlimactic. That said, I enjoyed the gameplay and see a lot of potential here. I trust that many of these rough edges will be polished as development continues. Still, it's important to acknowledge what’s missing so far — especially in a game that relies on emotional investment. Recommended – with reservations

I am going to have to down vote this game for a pretty significant fault. In its current state if you lose a character (they die) you can't loot their body or get their stuff back at all. This is a VERY game breaking functionality, as most of the time you will likely have 1-2 people doing most of the scavenging. Losing a survivor is okay, losing all their LOOT is not. ESPECIALLY when you can locate their body if you return to the scavenge spot where they die. What makes this game breaking is typically 1-2 people have all your weapons, and for example if you loot a firearm ( a VERY rare occurence) and you die trying to escape that mission - Your firearm is now lost forever. Which puts you at a almost an insuperable disadvantage. You will lose.

Partial SPOILER. I enjoy this game, however, the 'optional' quests for escaping should be stated more clearly. An example is the airlift escape has an 'optional' quest to get more fuel. Because it was listed as 'optional', I did not deem it that necessary, which led to my death because the aircraft ran out of fuel and killed my team. If it leads to the end of your life, the quest is not 'optional'. I probably would have cared more if it asked, "Are you sure you want to enter the aircraft without completing optional mission []?" Aside from that and minor combat glitches, it is a very fun game. I will probably play more with upcoming updates. I do like the character development and memories that come into play throughout the game. One example of this is if both Hector and Kayla are alive on a certain day, a memory happens that brings the group a certain item. Each run being different from the last makes the replay-ability more enjoyable and unique.

The game's still pretty early and in its current state with the stealth mechanics it's more frustrating than rewarding. Entire runs are pretty much botched if you're discovered once, you're better off just leaving the building all so you can lose time and resources. You do this enough times and you just feel like quitting the game and going on to play something else more fun. Refund requested. Let the devs cook this cake some more before you eat.

This game has HUGE potential to be an unique side scroller game. I did play the early access game when it first came out so I will take that into consideration The gameplay idea is your typical zombie base extraction style game where you have to build your base and team based on finding survivors and loot. You have to move in order to explore the city and clues for ways out. The premise is good, but after completing the first run, it gets boring and repetitive, REAL QUICK. I do have several cool ideas to remedy this. MUTATORS is by far the easiest way to remedy this and to also keep things fresh and also make the game difficult. The player has the creativity to make the game challenging. As for the locations, I think it would be a cool idea to do something like a zombie nest, where it is like a boss location that is VERY difficult, but rewarding to clear out the zombies in the area. Or you can leave the nest infected area and have zombies re spawn at a rapid rate in that area. It encourages and also is another good reason to move your base. Different types of zombies would be an easy addition. Something akin to Left for Dead with special infected with unique properties. Different weapon attributes, which can pair nicely with the types of zombies. For example, guns are not effective against bulletproof zombies, or fire against firefigher zombies, stuff like that. All the weapons do the same thing in its current state. Something like a pokemon "weapon" effectiveness or ineffectiveness would implement more strategy or lootbuilding based on the certain area you are exploring. Other than that, they have a really good base game which they can add ideas, mechanics, and concepts for players to try out.

I really liked this game, especially by it's gameplay that is like in "This War Of Mine" with base-build and fighting system. However, I wish to ask developers to make long jumps more on a hunch with a tip like: -You must press "Shift" for long jump. Launched on Apple silicon-M3 Pro. Performance was well-balanced on medium graphic set.(Temps was high, hope you do more optimization for that platform). With love, from Kazakhstan)

Unfortunately the game in it's current state is very badly optimised. It runs ok with DLSS but that shouldn't be necessary on a high end system with an RTX 4080 SUPER,. Look at the games video and screenshots and tell me this should use 99% GPU usage and run at 20ish FPS and try to keep a straight face. Seems like a relatively fun game, but honestly, if your game runs like shit without DLSS, it's not ready for public release.

This zombie game is actually amazing. It's a lot like This war of mine, but just with flesh eating zombies. It's visual stunning and the atmosphere is great. I like the way you have to manage your shelter and choose carefully which survivors you want to scavenge with. It can be so scary and intense, when you do a scavenge run. You can't just kill all the zombies mindlessly, you actually have to be stealthy and smart about it. Although the game is fun, it can get a bit repetitive and it need some more content. There is also a few bugs, but not to bad. The game is still in early access, so it's expected. The game has a lot of potential and i hope that the developers will keep updating and improving the game. I recommend that you wait to buy the game until it's finished

This might seem strange, praise on a thumbs down? Well yeah, the game does so much right but likewise it needs so much more work done to it to make it really feel like it’s complete. In the 2 hours I put into it I found myself lacking motive to really keep going, maybe the early game is more repetitive than the late game but it doesn’t look like it based on videos I watched. I think with time this game will be amazing and I’ll pick it back up and recommend it but atm it’s a no from me dawg.

Needs a LOT of work yet. Controls are clunky, not much to do when searching. The mechanics aren't straight forward and the difficulty increases exponentially, and randomly at times. You'll enter a location and it will have a danger rating the same as the last place you went, but there are WAY more zombies than the last location. It is not well balanced at all.

I will be fair with this one, the gameplay loop is fun at first but with the somewhat linear approach after finishing both escape plans that the game currently offers and exploring every location it currently offers i cant see a reason to keep playing without further updates. I have had zero perfomance issues or any game breaking bugs so no complaints there. I feel the game needs a more endless mode random locations, random survivors, ect. every survivor you find no matter which run your doing has the same perks so remember where the ones with great perks were go get them game success. Not too easy lost plenty of people along the way and was always able to go find there corpse or zombie form and get my loot. 8/10

I love the "This War of Mine Mechanics"; game is nice but need some fixing. I swear, I can't manage to keep them from starvation... it never happen in the other game. No matter how much food I scavenge, they're always running on fumes; TWoM gave you more options to produce food; here you can only grow veggies. Also, weapons should be repairable since their lifespan is very short. Other than this, it's TWoM with zombies.

I absolutely adore this game. From the audio quality, to the visuals, it couldn't be anymore perfect. Every survivor has skill sets & if you find one that you don't find useful? you don't have to take them in. 10000% worth the money IMO.

Great game if you looking to have a chill session without TOO much anxiety. However 1 wrong move in the wrong room can spell certain doom if you aren't careful. stealth is vital, but with firearms as an option you CAN go loud although you'll invite more zoids than the ones already in the are (across the street or hiding somewhere) I beat it in 1st 8 hours but I took the quickest clues without knowing so now with the new updates, I'm going for multiple play through endings with different groups to see the outcomes! I played this war of mine on Switch. Never beat it. I was not prepared for this type of game. And I love zombie games a lot so this is amazing to play. Fyi hammers aren't as loud as you think so craft that instead of shanks. just don't hit any zoids while 1 is too close. it isn't loud like the pan but also if you find shivs, take a pan or something loud to take out any single zoid that's alone so you don't wear out your shiv. Good luck gang.

I just finished playing one complete run of this game, and I can say it's a good game. Also, I have seen it already has many characters and different plots, so there's definitely replay value. I like the graphics and the animations, the plot and the gameplay. Considering it's still not the official version, this game already has enough. I can't wait to see the new mechanics. This one needs a lot more time in the oven. The core game is there, but right now they have values all over the place making it needlessly difficult at times and with a bad roll of RNG, just outright impossible. Death is permanent so you can see the issue. Food doesn't give enough nourishment, weapons break WAY too fast and quite fankly I'm getting sick and tired of the survival game trope that weapons last 30 seconds and then are so far destroyed they are un-fixable. A Fire Axe chops down solid trees for years before needing to be serviced in real life but apparently smashing it into a half rotted soft bodied zombie makes it shatter in 4 blows in this world...... One example is the "random" attacks on your base base and the "random" amount of damage it does consistently being the most it can be. According to the DEVS its "random" and has around a 50% chance of happening at all, and then a random 1 in 4 chance of how much damage it does after that. I got attacked 6 nights in a row for maximum damage every time. The odds of that are (.25x.5x.25x.5x.25x.5x.25x.5x.25x.5x.25x.5 =.00003814% chance of happening. Spoilers. I then went ONE night with no attack and then got attacked FOUR more nights in a row again, ultimately killing my survivors. I was wondering if we would have gone 6 again, but couldn't see as we died before it would be revealed.. you know, as the chances of this happening are literally lower than me winning the lottery and all.... SO if you like hours of work and high level execution being destroyed with nothing you can do about it, this is the game for you. I also just read that a recently the DEVS decided to make the game harder via patch.... they succeeded. Not worth playing in its current iteration.

this game is amazing to me it mixes stealth evasion fighting patterns unpredictable natures in some cases and noise levels on seeing if more then one zombie is able to hear or see you it has a lot of fun parts about it and the rush of almost losing a survivor but saving them last second and getting out of there with some good loot MAN IT FEELS GOOD other then being a tad bit pricey for a legendary game for how good it is being 25 bucks is not a bad price to pay for a game like this and no i was not paid to make this i just genuinly enjoy the game (dam ngl i do sound like a bot LOL)

This game is shaping up to be a standout indie survival horror — evocative 1980s setting, tight resource management, and a raw, unforgiving challenge. While it still needs polish in optimization, balance, and some UI/usability tweaks, what’s here feels meaningful. For fans of This War of Mine, State of Decay, and classic horror, it’s worth early entry into the fight—just be ready for a few stumbles.

Into the Dead has a very similar feel to State of Decay, but translated into a 2D perspective. The graphics and presentation are very polished and effective at translating the grounded horror of the game's world. Gameplay wise, it's largely a stealth game, where you have to figure out the best way to clear the locations and get out with the goods. I'd say it's difficulty is medium. Tough enough to make you pay attention, but not so punishing that you get overly frustrated. As for it's Early Access status, I'd argue that the current version is a finished game and worth the money. Any additions later will only make it better. Highly recommended.

Below average stealth mechanics. It's basically just a scavenging game with light base building. Even This War of Mine allowed you to take down enemies from cover. Wish there was a way to "peek" in a certain direction and not just when you're hiding behind cover.

PikPok strikes again with another banger of a zombie game. Definitely a tonal and gameplay shift from the infinite runner, but what the game loses in easy and quick replayability, it makes up for in story and its sense of worldbuilding. It's a must-play from me.

Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days is a game that takes This War of Mine and amplifies it by adding more than just the human aspect. Now, you also have to consider the undead, which don't walk — they run. You need to be mindful of your character's resources in a way that feels more unique. I would say that this game, overall, can definitely consume a good amount of hours. With each update and iteration, I can see the content expanding, and the variety of survivors you meet along the way becoming more and more unique. The game is set in the 1980s USA, where every character typically has a positive and a negative side. There is an ”End Game”: if you make it to the exit, your characters theoretically survive, and you win the game. Alternatively, you can play it as an endless survival game, moving from zone to zone repeatedly. So, I believe there are multiple ways to approach it. It’s still very early in development, but considering there will be scenarios introduced later as additional content, you can definitely mix and match the survivors’ traits and other elements when that happens. Overall, I’d say this is a promising early access experience. I encountered almost no bugs or issues, and with the ongoing updates and support, I believe this game will continue to improve. It’s a great experience that deserves your attention and your money.

This game is good, but its hard AF. i lost one survivor and was able to last with just one for a few days but with lack of food, sleep, and having to repair the shelter... yeah good luck. good game just too HARD. played a few runs and just got tired of die so much and it sucks. Hades is about dying but at least you get stronger by each run and death. here you die and thats it. back to square one. still going to play it and wait for updates but shit give us some longer play-ability.

I was very curious about this game. I was a little skeptical. But very soon my fears were dispelled. The game is great. It's basically "This war of mine" in the zombie apocalypse. It's exactly the kind of game I've wanted for a long time. Even though I started playing the game soon after release, I didn't notice any major bugs or problems. I can highly recommend the game. I really enjoyed it. I ended up playing it twice on two different endings. About the game, I would say it's something you need and didn't even know you needed before.

Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days is a fun and tense 2D Zombie Apocalypse scavenging and Base management game. The combat, stealth, and base management are all fairly basic but it all combines to be greater than the sum of it's parts. There's a lot of tension because of how fast things can go south; and although there isn't a ton of character development, you become attached to your survivors and it always sucks to lose one on an excursion. If I had any complaints it'd be that some of the levels need more interesting moments in them. For example in one hotel I entered a broom closet and the broom fell over, alerting the Zombie inside. But since I closed the door just in time the Zombie stayed enclosed in there. Some of bigger levels can start to feel monotonous when they lack these moments. Second complaint would be, as I mentioned before, the lack of characterization. Something as simple as unique dialogue base on which survivor you're playing as when you encounter another potential one would go a long way towards distinguishing characters. Another thing they could do is have flavor text or art about an interaction between two survivors who were in the communal area for that given phase. Obviously voiced characters would be fantastic, but that would probably be the most expensive route. I hope to see improvements like these as the devs keep working on it because the bones of this game are solid. If you're at all interested the demo is available.

It's a refreshing take on the zombie apocalypse genre. It's a nice balance between story-driven and creative game play. Perma-death, serious injuries, and no save game system mean decisions have weight (at least until you figure out pressing ALT+F4 quickly enough can save your character). The ant farm aesthetic is enjoyable, but I couldn't help but wonder what was behind doors and corners I couldn't access due to the camera. All in all, I highly recommend this game to fans of zombie and survival horror games. It's awesome!

This game misses the option to save your game is this current version but it is on the road map. Consequence of not being able to save your game is that everytime you encounter a different scavengesite you are bound to die because of zombie swarming you. When your survivors die you have to start all over again and that can be very tedious and annoying. You can look for a file with the name "gamesave_0" on your C:\ in the steam userdata directory. Make a backup everytime you are in the shelter. When your survivor dies exit and logout the game and use your backup and you can try again where you left of and hopefully dont make the mistake and die again. As long as there is no savegame option; hold off on buying. If you don't mind copy/pasting the savegame then you can play the game and you are in for a treat. Don't watch any video's or tutorials, just experience the game mechanics yourself and you will learn to play the game (the hard way ;-)) I am still testing out the different ways of dealing with zombies as i have to rely on brute force fighting to many times but that is part of the game i guess. I would love to see the addition of multiple difficulties (easy; medium; hard and expert (current mode)) as it will allow a new player to enjoy the game more while learning to deal with the zombies. Easy could have the option to save the game when you are at the shelter and medium/hard only allow you to save the game when you take over a new shelter. Expert mode could be locked behind achievement and be as it is now in game. I would also like to see an addition of levels (again easy; medium etc) in the amount of loot you can get as some starting points i just couldnt find enough to even survive. The scavenge sites and their loot are all static (for as far i can see now) and it would be nice to have the option to have a more random experience. Different setup's of where zombies are or how they react including random loot to just make it different. I have not explored the entire map yet and can't say if there is essentially always an end because you cant gather any more loot. Than randomness will make it a replayable game otherwise it is waiting for additonal content (DLC) of regular updates. Based on the roadmap (savegame) and my experience so far i'd change my downvote to upvote. But would advise you to wait with buying until savegames have been implemented.

Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days gets 4.8/5 on good game scale of review. It has a very complex issues with how to survive each time you play and it's always different. Some the characters are interesting concepts of story building and with perks always changing up usually for most and define who you want into your shelter and not. Zombies can be pretty difficult in this game if your not careful and patient with your time exploring major tip there. Resources are hard to sometime come by when it comes to food, medicine and weapons. Building can also be difficult which adds to the environment that makes this game fun to play and takes more time to play through. Game still has some issues with bugs and visual elements I can't wait to see if they add more locations, shelters, survivors and endings to the game beside 1 out 4 options on the list. Go check it out 100% recommend this game to anyone and hey it's cheaper then a lot of $70 games out there who are not as polished as this game.

I highly recommend this game, if you're looking for a decently hard but fun zombie game. at first thought it was gunna be trash because its 2d side scrolling but that's what made it more fun the zombies are harder to see if your in a long hallway so u have to be more carefull with looting places. there's alot of different places to loot there's a good amount of different loot types. there's a good amount of different guns and ammo, plenty of basic supplies(fabric wires metal just to name a few) different types of medical supplies, and good amount of bases to live in. there's a good crafting system, for example, you can build a cooking area and upgrade it from level 1 to level 3. from level 1 you can cook basic meat stew and vegi stew, level 2 you can make casarole and coffee, and level 3 gives you 2 spanish dishes that idk the name of but it uses 2 meat 1 vegi and the other uses 2 vegi 1 meat. when exploring you have the chance to either fight a normal zombie or a big bastard zombie as i call them because they big and hit like a bastard. when exploring you can find other people some good and some bad that u have to kill, sad i couldn't save them but shit happens. when it comes to looting sometimes it can be annoying tho because if u find a safe you need a lockpick which makes sense but they hard to find and not terrible to craft but i normally end up running low on and same goes for the bolt cutters there only ever needed so often so not as bad ig. i only have a few dislikes tho about the game and that's because i have a good amount of hours and have yet to find any other gun type than the normal pistol and the revolver. Another thing i don't like is how some people have 3 traits 1 good 2 bad while others only have 2 traits 1 good 1 bad. My last 2 dislikes is that some of the locations feel the same even tho they're physically different i felt like i just went through the same fire station and restaurants 8 fucking time, i think they jus need to either swap some old locations with new locations (military base, shopping mall, old mine, train yards/stations, and gun stores idk cause maybe were in fucking texas) or a new map on either a different continent or state with new duo survivors and plenty of new location types and location layouts design changes and new people to save in those places. my last dislike is the game is a lil glitchy nothing crazy but jus some minor glitches like hiding behind something and the zombie still screaming even tho he didnt see me go to hide their and when jumping across things you get a pull up animation bug. I hope you found this usefull in anyway
