After having 100% all three monument valley games, I feel that this game is the weakest of the three. There is overall less content and, while this game will be getting free DLC like the other two, I doubt it will be able to bring this game on par with the two. Furthermore, this game messes with your brain much less, which is a core part of the monument valley experience. If you are looking to buy a monument valley game, buy either 1 or 2, as they both have more content and more brain-fuckery.

Another very beautiful game from ustwo like always. Monument Valley 3 goes above and beyond to merge storytelling and beauty like the rest of the games in this series, but does it with a surprising twist that subverts expectations in a good way. It's also the first game I remember that explicitly shows loss and sadness, slight departure from the normally bright and colorful tone of the other games.
Easy 10 out of 10. Would highly recommend for everyone to pick up.

A beautiful swathing of colours and characters that makes Monument Valley as a series so beautiful. The level model is unusual but I will be completely fine with it if this next part comes out as expected. 10/10 so far.

As someone who enjoyed the original Monument Valley games back in the ancient past, I can describe this third game with three simple S-words; short, sweet, solid. It is all I could ask from a new Monument Valley game, and while the price-point might be a sticking point for some people, I definitely got my 90 minutes worth.
That in mind, there are meant to be more levels coming around winter this year (2025), so that'll see the game gain even more bloom for your buck.

WOW. Third masterpiece in a row! Nothing not to like here, playing this was a treat as have all the games in this series. The mechanics are well thought out, the visuals are stunning and the soundtrack never misses. The only thing I'd make note of is that I'd consider this more of an "experience" type game. The puzzles are satisfying and fun to solve but there is very little in the way of challenge so if you are a puzzler looking for real head scratchers, you won't get that here but it is absolutely worth playing nonetheless! Hope to see more in this series and looking forward to the free DLC coming later this year. Entire series is a must buy.

I feel like the puzzles were really toned down and simplified from the first two titles. It's also much shorter than the other two, because the others had updates and this one doesn't, yet. Hopefully the free updates add more to the game, for now it feels a little like a cliffhanger.

What does it for me with this game is how much it feels like a continuation of the first two parts, while completely bringing its own atmosphere and feel. The graphics are beautiful, the sound is sweet, and this version makes very clever new uses of existing mechanics.

A beautifully crafted game and I'm pleased to see that I don't need a Netflix account to play it (unlike the version on the iPhone App store - which seems a monument(al) mistake). I recommend this game because it is well thought out, looks lovely and the puzzles are interesting...with one exception: the amount of time taken up with the transitions between puzzles. Lots of pressing stars, circling the mouse to connect lines, more pressing of stars etc. It's repetitive and undermines what is otherwise a brilliant game. It would be wrong not to recommend it but overall it's not one for me at the moment.

Somewhere along the lines of growing up, this game went from a hard puzzle game to an easy one, but the aesthetics of the game is so much better than how I remembered it. A nice avenue to walk down memory lane.

As a long-time Monument Valley fan (I still remember when MV2 was just casually shadow-dropped on an Apple event), I was surprised to hear another MV sequel releasing... to Netflix. *sigh* Then the Netflix licensing deal went awry and those Netflix mobile versions are now shut down, luckily there is a PC port. (why no Mac though?)
If you enjoyed the previous MV games, then MV3 presents more of that, like the mind-bending structures, gorgeous scenery and soothing soundtrack. Each of the MV games aren't long or super-hard to solve, but it's hard to find another puzzler game with this overall vibe.

Staggeringly beautiful game as always. Overall easier than the previous two games, but also a much more all-encompassing experience, with excellent storytelling and breathtaking visuals. Even now that "isometric perspective trick" games are becoming more of its own genre, Monument Valley is still able to innovate and surprise; there were some new illusions in this that really stunned me. Just like the other two, this game is an easy recommendation to anyone who appreciates the abstract. Just beautiful.

I can not recommend this game enough i have played both the first and second game. This is the best of the three by far all the levels were unique with new and weird ways to finish them. I can't wait for the continuation of it soon.
Highly recommend.

I am a Monument Valley fan. I got the first installment right when it came out in the App Store, as well as the OG (RED) Ida's Dream levelpack. I find this installment to be the weakest out of all the three.
I do, however, note that it comes with some pleasantries:

the visuals and concepts used are interesting;

the music is nice and well-prepared;

the narrative is intriguing (for a more particularly deep technical exploration, see the book Lumen Naturae by Matilde Marcolli);
But the doubts vastly outweigh the benefits:

the pricing is simply absurd;

the plot is lackluster & the cathartic points were anticlimactic (compared to the first and second parts);

some slightly odd physics present (you can clip through a big fish in one level, and little girl's ponytails have a jiggle too exaggerated);
Consider that it is a third installment, it essentially does not change from the previous ones. The only difference would be substantive.
If it is not changed in its perception and play aspect, it should have a very strong compensation with the message it is conveying.
But in the end you pay a decent sum of $15 for SEVEN levels (the first three you could play in a demo). Sure it's got a "free" DLC upcoming but so did MV1 and MV2.
We can compare MV3 with other games based on some numerical assessment (price and memory space).
~~~
For the priceline, consider Grim Fandango by Double Fine Productions ($19.99; remastered, 37 pcs OST) vs MV3 ($18.61; 3rd inst, 39 pcs OST).
Both are 3rd person with a significant accent on the environment plus the plot revolving about society and identity.
Now, I have yet to play GF but that is because its gameplay time is estimated to be 11 to 12 Hours! And MV3 has only 100 minutes..
I'm certain GF has the good ol' Double Fine classic wit and vibes I've got from Psychonauts and Broken Age. Unfortunately, MV3 had my expectations lost.
Not to mention, the audacity for MV3 to include an achievement which has you disable the music, "see the broken hearts of the composers", do nothing about it (laugh, I suppose), and then you just put the music on back.
GF's least obtained achievement requires you to play the game "The Right Way" (i.e., with tank controls). This obviously changes the dynamic and the perception of the game, and you (and DoubleFine) get an actual laugh out of it.
~~~
For the memory space, consider Pilgrims by Amanita Design ($6.99; 458.74 MB) vs MV3 ($14.99; 461.09 MB).
Though Pilgrims has a much simpler design, note that it is a first installment, the next one turned out to be a board game!
The simplicity in Pilgrims contributes to a sense of being at 'the right company' as the game revolves around going around helping out people.
It's also an interactive game, with interactions being provided as cards you can give to a character to do some specific action.
This massively contributes to the replayability factor (2.3 hrs vs MV3's 1.66 hrs). And it definitely does not make the game experience sour with the affordable price it has.
Contrary to that, MV3 literally stops you after you're done with the levels. As if the experience was saturated or something. Obviously, the price spilled some salt on the wound.
~~~
I do not think my comparison picks are "perfect", but more can be drawn and eventually be arrived at the same conclusion.
It seems to me that the game I have mentioned in comparison simply want to be what they are (i.e., games). Whereas MV3 is so full of itself it's nearing a very close line to virtue signaling. The irony is rich (getit?.. the game is about a Lighthouse attracting people in need, and -- slight spoiler warning -- red will be symbolically used in one part of the game).
This brings me to a conclusion.
Dearest people... I implore you to obtain this game when the pricing will be reasonable of what it is. I do not think the pricing should be ever changed compared to the previous installments.
Lastly, I acknowledge my review is reflective of personal needs, and others may bear an opinion different from yours sincerely.
Thank you for your time.
## 纪念碑谷3评测
## Monument Valley 3 Review
纪念碑谷系列是一个毋庸置疑的优秀游戏,我正是这一美妙绝伦系列的忠实粉丝,因此在MV3 PC版推出的第一时间就前往购买。我购买的时间是晚上8:57 (UTC+8),当时还只有游戏本体出售,OST和捆绑包尚未上线。因此当我兴致勃勃打完第二章《小镇》,看到捆绑包能够有5块钱的优惠时,我毅然转向了退款界面,尽管这会让我损失潜在的游戏时间。直到晚上10:30,我才收到退款并重新购买捆绑包。
The Monument Valley series is undoubtedly an excellent set of games. As a devoted fan of this wonderful series, I purchased the PC version of MV3 as soon as it was released. I made the purchase at 8:57 PM (UTC+8), when only the base game was available—OST and bundles hadn’t been launched yet. So after enthusiastically finishing Chapter 2 "The Town," I saw that the bundle could save me 5 yuan. I immediately requested a refund, even though it meant losing some game time. Not until 10:30 PM did I receive the refund and repurchase the bundle.
我与纪念碑谷系列的结缘始于2020年,详见https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561199239128309/recommended/1927720?snr=1_5_9__402。而当前这份这篇评测不只会针对纪念碑谷3这一部作品,更是对整个系列的一篇横评。
My connection with the Monument Valley series began in 2020 (see: [link](https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561199239128309/recommended/1927720?snr=1_5_9__402)). This review is not only about Monument Valley 3, but also a cross-comparison with the entire series.
让我们先来谈谈剧情。我认为三部中,第一部的剧情最佳,第二部次之,第三部又次之。
Let’s talk about the story first. In my opinion, the first game has the best plot among the three, the second is next, and the third ranks last.
- 第一部讲述了艾达公主的宽恕之旅与她与图腾之间友谊的温情:整个故事的节奏并不急迫,但信息量却又十分巨大,许多剧情都隐藏在幽灵(请原谅我用词的不敬)言简意赅的言辞中,挖掘隐藏的剧情亦是游玩作品时的一大乐趣;DLC《被遗忘的海岸》的故事大约发生在本体第九章和第十章之间的位置,展现了艾达与图腾之间弥足珍贵的友谊。
The first game tells the story of Princess Ida’s journey of forgiveness and the warmth of her friendship with the Totem: the pacing isn’t rushed, but the amount of information is substantial. Many plot points are hidden in the concise words of the ghosts (pardon my wording), and discovering these hidden stories is a great joy of playing the game. The DLC "Forgotten Shores" takes place between Chapters 9 and 10 of the main story, showcasing the precious friendship between Ida and the Totem.
- 第二部记述了生命之间新老接替的自然历程:母亲萝尔带孩子走入纪念碑谷中,孩子将在这里得到成长,而母亲则将完成她的生命轨迹。她在港口与孩子分别后,穿过高塔,与门腾在远日点重逢,又在神圣之门重走她母亲的旧路。而她的女儿,则独自一人穿过林立的纪念碑,在果园完成了成人的蜕变。整个剧情没有波澜壮阔的旅程,没有扣人心弦的起伏,只有二人生命历程的延续,这生动地诠释了“**如果没有剧情就不要硬套**”的理念(虽然这句话是我编的~)
The second game depicts the natural succession of life: Mother Ro takes her child into Monument Valley, where the child grows up and the mother completes her life’s journey. After parting with her child at the port, Ro crosses the tall tower, reunites with Totem at Distant Point, and retraces her mother’s path at the Sacred Gate. Her daughter, meanwhile, journeys alone through monuments and completes her coming-of-age transformation in the orchard. The plot lacks grand adventures and dramatic twists; instead, it focuses on the continuation of life—vividly embodying the idea that "**if there’s no story, don’t force one**" (though I made this phrase up~).
- 第三部则讲述了诺尔接下前辈重任,成为新任守光人的故事:灯塔的光芒日趋暗淡,海上航行的船只将会迷失在汹涌的海浪与无边黑暗之中。诺尔在神殿与她的导师分别后,独自一人踏上了找寻圣光的道路,最终灯塔重新照耀世界,船只也能够如愿远航。然而本部剧情却略显单薄,没有很多值得深入挖掘的地方(或许是我没看懂?)。在我看来,**这部作品本来可以没有剧情,可工作室非得给它加上一个莫名其妙的剧情。**
The third game tells the story of Noelle taking on her predecessor’s duties as the new Lightkeeper: the lighthouse’s glow dims, and ships at sea risk being lost in the waves and darkness. After parting with her mentor at the temple, Noelle embarks alone to seek the holy light. Eventually, the lighthouse shines again, and ships can safely sail. However, this plot feels rather thin, with little depth to explore (maybe I missed something?). In my view, **the game could have done without a story, but the studio insisted on adding a rather inexplicable one.**
美术与视觉风格也是本系列的一大特色。如果从这个角度来讲,三部作品在美术上愈发成熟:第一部只有简单的几何图形,第二部则加入了许多的装饰,而第三部则将每一个关卡都置于具体的场景之中。然而也有人认为这种设计风格的演变,会让这一系列丧失它原有的**极简**属性。
Art and visual style are also hallmarks of the series. From this perspective, the three games' art has matured: the first had simple geometric shapes; the second added many decorations; the third placed each level in a concrete scene. However, some argue that this design evolution causes the series to lose its original **minimalism**.
那么第三部有没有什么创新之处呢?答案显然易见。无论是向上盘旋的藤蔓,还是葱郁草甸上的穿行,不禁都让人眼前一亮。但这些不是吸引新人入坑的亮点,大部分的的游戏内容仍然是前两部关卡的排列组合,并且作为一个解谜游戏,其难度也实在令人唏嘘:根据Steam记载的游戏时长,我只用了一个半小时就通关了全部已经发布的内容,相信世界上大部分玩家也是如此,目前的游戏时长不会超过三个小时。
So, does the third game have any innovations? The answer is obvious: whether it’s spiraling vines or traversing lush meadows, these elements are eye-catching. But these aren't enough to attract new players. Most of the content is still a rearrangement of levels from the previous games. As a puzzle game, the difficulty is disappointingly low: according to my Steam playtime, I finished all available content in just an hour and a half. I believe most players worldwide are the same—the current game time won’t exceed three hours.
我一直都认为,纪念碑谷的成功,很大程度上取决于它的短小精悍。这种“欲说还休”的游戏设计理念深得我心,常常给我来带一种结局已至、但又意犹未尽的感觉,就好像是《琵琶行》中“此时无声胜有声”的幽静境界,也契合了山谷给人带来的感觉。因此,我恳请制作组在设计剧情的时候还请多用些心,让**剧情配得上游戏**。
I have always believed that Monument Valley’s success largely comes from its concise and refined nature. This “less is more” design philosophy resonates with me; it often leaves me with a sense of ending and yet lingering desire, much like the “silence speaks louder than words” mood from the poem "The Song of the Lute." This fits the atmosphere of the valleys perfectly. Therefore, I sincerely hope the developers will put more heart into the story, making the **plot worthy of the game**.
最后,我还想吐槽一下本作的翻译,这实在是我见过最为蹩脚的游戏翻译:抛开能否给我带来一种肃穆典雅的感觉不说,一些语句它甚至不通顺啊!你们能不能找个可靠点的汉化团队啊!(具体的例子请允许我日后附上)
Lastly, I have to complain about the translation in this game—it’s honestly the most awkward game translation I’ve ever seen. Not to mention whether it can convey a solemn and elegant feeling—some sentences are even grammatically incorrect! Can’t you find a more reliable localization team? (I’ll provide specific examples later.)
