I haven't played many stealth games, but I can say that this one is absolutely worth your time. The gameplay is top-notch, with tight movement, multiple ways to complete your objectives, challenging and varied levels, and strategic depth using multiple characters simultaneously. The characters themselves are also a lot of fun to play as and bring some personality and depth to the story through their unique skillsets and relationships with each other. Definitely recommended!

Played this last of the Mimimi trilogy of Shadow Tactics, Desperados 3 and Shadow Gambit. Shadow Tactics does not have the same QOL features as the later iterations, and the UI is clumsier, but the gameplay is quality stuff, just like in all Mimimi games. The story is mundane, but the party of murderers that I feel absolutely no pity for are interesting to follow. I played on Hardcore difficulty. Probably having played the other games gives me an edge at this point, but I felt this was on the easier side, much like Shadow Gambit. I'd say Desperados 3 is the most difficult one out of the three. "Hardcore" in Shadow Tactics does not feel as difficult as Cursed or Desperado difficulties in the other games. Anyway, it's a good game.

The levels are all well designed with so many ways to approach them. even though the story is kinda so so the characters make it so much enjoyable. the only cons i can think of is that optimisation in the very first level isnt as good and as a result i got low fps because of it. another is the movement needs a slight improvement. overall a great game with lots of levels with great replayability and well worth the money.

A great game, I love it! I came from Door Kickers 2 because I enjoy tactical games like this, and honestly, Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun delivers. It feels like a medieval counterpart to Door Kickers 2, set in the Edo period, with an emphasis on closequarters stealth and precise execution. One thing that really stands out is the lack of an ingame pause option. While you can technically pause by going into the settings, there’s no tactical pause like in some other strategy games. This adds a fastpaced element to the experience and challenges you to think quickly but smartly—which I really enjoyed. It keeps the tension high and the decision-making sharp. The only issue I encountered was occasional crashes, particularly when running the game on high graphics settings. Reducing the settings helped in my case, so that might help others too. All in all, it’s a fantastic experience, and I absolutely recommend giving it a try, especially if you enjoy stealth, strategy, and the challenge of realtime decisionmaking.

Extremely frustrating quick load simulator. It is a lot less about using your character's abilities in fun combinations than the trailer makes it look and a lot more about waiting 3 minutes for the guards to finish their loop because you set up Shadow Mode just a millisecond too late). An exercise more in patience than any kind of strategy game so far. Granted I am on the 2nd level, but given the way alert states just add extra guards to a map you clearly couldn't get through without being detected, so after being detected the game REALLY pushes you to reload. I don't really know what else they would have done to punish you, but if the punishment is just "Now there's even more guys to spot you!" it just feels like punching down. Maybe I would have better things to say if this weren't my first stealth game like this, but the "Hardcore" elements like no pause and a set camera aren't "Hardcore", they're "Frustrating"
My strategy was brilliant and my execution brilliantly flawed...
This is impressively well crafted tactics games as all games from Mimimi games but this one with a flavor of Edo period Japan. With a well thought out plan and buckets of patience you will master 5 agents of shogunate and fight the uprising against imperial rule.
It's all about puzzles
During various campaign missions you will be put into control of 5 characters with unique ability kits. Each mission is essentially treated as a big puzzle but with multiple solutions. At the start you will scout the maps for available routes, hiding spots and tools to help you solve it. You will learn guards' behavior which will open up new paths or give you hints how, when and in what order you eliminate undesirable enemies along the way. Each mission has a specific characters locked in so you cannot choose your team but in that way all missions are built to really utilize the abilities of these characters to full extent.
Map design is the king.
It is indeed the main pillar that makes this game great. The maps are huge with a lot of interesting areas with plentiful options for your agents to work with. And each and every map does its best to feel natural with seemingly no weaknesses until you start looking at them closely. You will notice hidden paths, weak links in enemy routes or interactive objects that could help to disguise your approach or get rid of enemies without raising any significant suspicion. This pairs nicely with your characters’ abilities and makes you consider which sort of approach you are going to take.
You make the best with what you have.
Do you fancy a ninja that strikes from shadows and the rooftops or rather direct approach in the form of samurai capable of disposing of strong enemies or even groups of weaker enemies. How about a seemingly weak girl who can set up deadly traps, or an old 1-legged man with a very deadly rifle. Perhaps a very attractive woman with a knack for disguise. All of these characters have a mix of melee and range options with various advantages and disadvantages. They also possess other utilities to weaken enemies, lure them, distract them. It is only up to you how you use them.
Oh shogun, my master...
The story is rather simple with predictable events but it sits well with how the game is built and played. Characters are likable enough and missions are varied and well thought out. You will conduct your operations in the cities with luxurious residences and busy streets. In wilderness, on the mountain top temples and in the peasant villages. Anywhere your shogun needs you. And all in modest yet beautiful aesthetics and music that adds so much flavor.
In conclusion:
This game is very much captivating until its final mission. But it requires a lot of patience from its player. Sometimes you miss your window and will have to wait for that guard to get back into position or you botch an execution and will have to do the whole set up again. This takes time and quite a lot of down time so if you cannot stand this, pass on the game. But if you do not mind it, in fact you take pleasure in it and you do it right, you set up your characters in a synchronous dance of death where they take out multiple enemies at once without anyone noticing. It is indeed ever so satisfying to see your plan going smoothly.
