This is why in my opinion, Indie games can make some of the best experiences people can have with the video game. Indie games made to introduce a brand new creative world with great characters as well as put in the effort to make it a great game. They don't feel like they are doing it for money. It feels like they are doing because they have an idea. In conclusion, yes it's worth it. A great game that teaches a difficult lesson to learn, which is to move on and say goodbye. A game where you as the player truly feel connected to others, in a wide world to explore. “Uplifting, sweet, and thoughtful, until that final goodbye, but that’s how so many goodbyes are, aren’t they?”

I approached this thinking "Oh, it's just gonna be a game about escorting spirits to the afterlife". I was wrong, I WAS HORRIBLY HORRIBLY WRONG. As of writing, I am still recovering from the ending and ugly crying my fucking eyes and heart out. This game has quite easily solidified it's way into my list of favorite games. It's such a gut-wrenching but beautiful journey. The art style, environment ambiance and soundtrack is so beautiful too (Except you Alex, you ruin the mood sometimes, but anyway). I don't usually leave long reviews, but my God, I highly recommend this game. It's so good.
🌟🐈 Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition ⛴ 🪼
General: Spiritfarer isn’t just a game it’s a slow, gentle meditation on grief, love, and letting go. You play as Stella, a ferrymaster guiding spirits to the afterlife helped and side by side with her cat Daffodil, not through battle or violence, but through compassion, conversation, and care. This is a game about endings, but also about connection. It’s about listening to those we love, sharing meals, planting gardens, and saying goodbye. It’s beautiful, it’s heavy, and it will stay with you long after you’ve stepped away. If you’re open to slowing down and feeling deeply, this game will meet you there. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3067835310 Gameplay: The core gameplay loop is about building, crafting, cooking, gardening, hugging, managing your ship and caring for your spirit guests as they come to terms with their lives. You have to fulfill their needs, to keep them happy, while they are on this ride with you. Some systems become repetitive over time. But that rhythm becomes part of the experience. Just like in life, the little things matter: making their favorite meal, playing a tune, giving a warm hug before they’re ready to move on. This game doesn’t only challenge your reflexes, it challenges your heart too. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3351190623 Controls: Controller or kbm, both feel intuitive, smooth, and responsive but tbh this is one of the few games I like playing with controller better. Steam Deck is also running perfect. Soundtrack: A piece of subtle emotion. The music never overwhelms, it wraps around you during quiet moments, lifts you during farewells, and gently breaks your heart when you least expect it. Visuals: Absolutely breathtaking! I love the hand-drawn animations with a soft, watercolor-like touch. Every spirit has a unique visual identity. The skies shift with color and meaning for events. You are able to change Stellas clothes later too. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3347018050 Downsides: The middle portion can feel a bit slow, especially for players who expect more variety and fast pacing. Crafting and travel take time, and there’s a fair bit of backtracking. But again, this is an emotional game that teaches patience, that dares to be still. Final thoughts: Spiritfarer is a love letter to the ones we’ve lost and the time we had with them. It’s soft, bittersweet, and full of humanity. It reminds you that endings can be beautiful. That even goodbye can be a gift. If you’ve ever mourned someone, if you’ve ever felt the ache of a memory, or simply want a game that feels deeply, you owe yourself this journey. 9/10 – I cried a little bit sometimes, but would do it again. What an emotional rollercoaster of a game... I wasn't expecting to cry. You can't help but relate to the characters you meet, so when the end to their journey finally comes, it's like saying good bye to someone you know personally. The music, art, and mechanics are smooth and beautiful. I don't know if I'll be able to finish the game because it hurts my soul.

9/10 Just an amazing story and fun time. The management in the game isn't overwhelming and simple enough for anyone to pick up yet still has some diversity. The character's I absolutely adored (Jackie, Elena and B&M were rough around the edges) Beverly easily had the coziest home while Buck had the coolest. I could gush about this game for a while but to keep it short, check this game out it is a ride you won't regret boarding.

I sincerely expected more from the game's story. Each NPC is supposed to have their own sad/tragic/existential drama — but all of them are presented so... scarcely? It's like you're not given enough to actually understand anything. So... I expected to be this "Charon", listening to people’s stories and guiding them through their final journey. But in the end, I felt more like a confused Uber driver, giving rides to passengers who expected me to guess what the h??? they were talking about. I think the game's art is great and might be enough to motivate some players to finish it — especially cozy game lovers. But honestly, I think there are better experiences out there.

I am 12 hours into this game but still don't understand what the game really is about. For some odd reason I do like playing it though. You mostly just sail around, feed others, grow plants and repeat the same kind of chores on your ship. Somehow it feels satisfying and relaxing. As you continue in the game, your chores increase which makes you develop strategies to be more efficient. But the game still feels slow paced because it doesn't really punish you to finish things in time. If this was not the case, I don't think I would enjoy it as much. Overall, I do recommend this game if you are looking to play something relaxing where you have the freedom to do grow in the game in your own creative way.

Peaceful, emotional, and really well-made. You manage a boat, help spirits move on, and upgrade your ship along the way. The story hits hard in places but never feels forced. Great art, music, and chill gameplay. Worth it if you’re into slower, meaningful games.

One of the most emotionally moving, calming, and deeply impactful games I've ever played. I first played this game after my mother's passing. It was exactly what I needed when I needed it and has helped to shape my view of death. I still start up a new game every now and then. Just to see my old friends and this world all over again.

Spiritfarer is one of the best games I have ever played, that I can't recommend to most people. It tells a heart-wrenching story, but in a very tedious way. Nearing the end of the game I shed actual tears, but they don't make up for the mindless chore that was the 30 hours that preceded them. The story is told exclusively by conversation bubbles, so it is touching in the same way that a book is touching. Which is not a bad thing by itself, but considering video gamres are interactive media, it could have been so much more interesting. The game would have benefitted HEAVILY from voice acting, and if not that, it could have at least used more animations and camera angles, instead of you having to read thousands of text bubbles coming out of still characters. The story also only gets interesting after you understand what is actually happening, and although I don't want to spoil it for anyone, I feel like the chores would have been a lot easier to tolerate if that was made obvious earlier, or even before you start the game. Also at the very end of the game, you get some upgrades that should have been discovered in the first hours, like easier mining and fishing, and upgrades to the buildings that make them need much less of your time. All of the animations and mini-games are fun the first few times, but after the 100th time it just feels like the game is wasting yout time for no reason. It also doesn't help that the tasks given to you are just "go here and read bubbles from this character", "now go there and so the same", "now to this place", (...). To conclude, Spiritfarer is an amazing story, but it is not an amazing game. And it gets this rating from me not because of what it is, but because it falls so, so short of what it could have been.

I love this game so much, I actually stopped playing after 49 hours once I realised how close I am to the end (and I don't want to let them go). It took me a while to figure out what was happening re:
every single character on the boat will have to go through! Uncle Atul BROKE me! I am never getting over that shock!
Ultimately though, I learned so much about letting go and compassion. Even the worst people you know will die someday, and deserve that compassion in death when they are afraid. I will never get tired of replaying this game. It is so soothing. Redefines the cozy genre of games. Absolutely worth the money.

🌙 Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition – A Gentle Journey About Letting Go I’m still in the middle of Spiritfarer, but it’s already one of the most touching games I’ve ever played. It approaches death with such tenderness — not as an end, but as a transition full of meaning, connection, and peace. 🕊️ The hand-drawn visuals are stunning, the music is beautifully melancholic, and the gameplay — a cozy blend of management, exploration, and heart-to-heart conversations — gives every moment weight. Whether I’m cooking a spirit’s favorite meal or sharing a quiet moment on deck, I constantly find myself smiling (and sometimes tearing up). There’s sadness, of course, but far more joy. Spiritfarer teaches us that parting isn’t always about loss — sometimes, it’s about gratitude. And while I haven’t reached the end yet, I already know this is one of those rare games that stays with you long after the credits roll.

I am not very far into this game but it makes me extremely happy. Not often do you get this sort of actual emotion in video game stories, but here it shines. This is my teenager equivalent of drinking a cup of coffee and watching a movie on a winter day. 5 stars, absolutely incredible.

This is the first game I wrote a review on. I got it when it was on sale due to a tiktok recommendation - and I think I binged 50% of the content in a week. My short attention span cannot handle repetitive gameplay, but this is ultimately an exception - The stories, the characters, the music and artwork are so soul gutting. I cannot describe how much I'm deeply attached to most characters, and literally cried when I was sending them one by one off. I would tell their stories to my partner, as if they were one of my irl friends. I'm so grateful that it went sale (because I wouldn't be able to readily afford it) you gave me an opportunity to explore and experience the beauty and life-likeness of this game.

I usually don't fare well with management games, often picking them up on sale and playing them for a few hours then forgetting all about it, BUT Spiritfarer has me hooked! It's quite unlike the typical management games you would find on the market as its mechanics and adventure make it fun, spiriting you away from the 'managing' part of the game effectively, even if its only for a short while. Moreover, the character stories are very engaging and have me experiencing a multitude of emotions while playing. The abilities are NOT clunky at all and the gameplay feels so smooth overall. Currently have about 20 hrs on this game, and I'm still eager to play more!

Spiritfarer has to be one of my favourite games of all time, learning about each and every one of the characters stories and helping them find peace was something I found profoundly comforting throughout my play through. The game can be quite a resource grind and a long waiting game if you're grinding for achievements, but I personally enjoyed the grind, and I would do it again. I highly recommend this game to anyone looking for a deep and emotional game, with a cute art style of course.

“Spiritfarer is not just a game — it's a gentle goodbye.” With every hug, every shared meal, and every tearful farewell, Spiritfarer teaches us that letting go is an act of love. Wrapped in hand-drawn beauty and a soothing soundtrack, it turns death into a journey of healing — for the spirits and for yourself. A rare game that stays with you long after it's over. [10/10]

A lovely cozy game that keeps the visual/mechanical part of my brain busy while I'm actively listening to something else. The art and sound design is particularly nice. The only aspect that I struggled with is that it wasn't clear to me which tasks are locked behind an upgrade until you attempt to complete them (or which task would enable me to progress towards that upgrade). In theory, that's ok and encourages aimless exploration, but after 4 hours of dead ends I ended up Googling in frustration.

Gentle, heartfelt, and visually stunning—Spiritfarer is a game that embraces the delicate art of saying goodbye. It’s not about defeating enemies or climbing leaderboards; it’s about connection, compassion, and helping others let go. The animation is gorgeous, hand-drawn with warmth and soul. Every movement, environment, and character interaction feels personal and serene, like a comforting storybook come to life. 🎼 The music? Absolutely moving. Soft, emotional piano and string melodies wrap around the narrative like a warm hug, perfectly complementing the themes of memory, loss, and love. It never overwhelms—it resonates quietly and powerfully. Gameplay-wise, there's so much to do: build and upgrade your ship, farm, cook, fish, and fulfill the last wishes of your spirit friends. It’s slow-paced, but deliberately so, encouraging mindfulness and emotional reflection. 📌 Final Verdict: Spiritfarer is not just a game—it’s an experience. Poetic, meditative, and unforgettably human. It invites you to care deeply, reflect on what matters, and embrace farewells with grace.

One day, a book and a game met and fell in love. Eventually, they got married and had a child named Spiritfarer. All was well until, a few years later, the game parent passed away. Spiritfarer was raised solely by the book. And that brings us to today. Spiritfarer reads like a novel, and unfortunately, plays like one too. The gameplay feels dull and unengaging, adding little substance beyond the story. Many of the mechanics are borrowed from other titles but lack depth or originality. The platforming is frustrating and lacks fluidity—something that should be a basic requirement. The tutorial is even more frustrating and unclear. And the writing for the first character didn’t land for me, which is especially disappointing when narrative is meant to be the game’s strongest suit. This might resonate with book lovers looking to dip a toe into gaming. But as someone seeking a true gameplay experience, I couldn’t help but feel like I’d been handed a story when I signed up for an adventure.

A decent game that is very emotionally packed. Has a deep and interesting story line and definitely knows how to hit you in the feels. that being said It can get boring at times, the travel time and constant jumping back and forth between islands gets pretty old. I found myself losing interest about half way through. The spirits also get increasingly unlikable as the game goes on, I started to rush through their stories just to get them off the boat ( Astrid and Buck were the last ones that I truly enjoyed being around). They all have interesting stories and reasons for the way they are which helps make some characters more bearable but others I simply could not make myself like them( Jackie & Bruce and Mickey). There are times when I was lost and didn't know how to advance or where to go next, I had to go to the wiki for help a handful of times because there aren't really clear directions on what to do for quests. The controls are pretty weird and take some getting used to, I struggled to navigate some areas and got frustrated with the mines areas a couple times. overall it is an alright game and the emotional factor was what kept me playing because I was invested in the story but it felt like a chore by the end, something I was drudging through because I wanted the rest of the story, I even started rushing through dialog because the extra fluff just became mind numbing instead of engaging. I agree with other people who say it reads like a book, I would have greatly enjoyed this as a book but not as a game. I want to like the game because it is a genuinely a cool concept and definitely has a story tell, but I can't recommend people spend their money on this

The people who made this game absolutely loved the creative process of it and cared about making it meaningful to the player's experience and emotions. I adore how the game mechanics are unique and how each task you have to do is somewhat important to the story or holds value for the game. Nothing really feels like busywork which is nice for a change on a game that may have grind based activities. Overall, an emotional and realistic take on what it means to process life as we know it, and a sensitive delve into processing death of one's self and those around you. This game made me cry, semi-yell, and share endearing moments, all that are notable to a real life person's experience on this earth. I highly recommend this game to anyone who wants to play a cozy game that also approaches valuable and honest topics of one's existence. The visuals and music are also just insanely pretty and the dialogue is funny and elaborate. 11/10 game.

I can't even count the number of times this game has made me cry. The second I got the last quest I did literally everything in my power to stop me from doing it, but I guess you can only delay the inevitable for so long. 10/10 in my opinion, I love the animation style, I love the hugs you can give others, I love how they can refuse, I love how side quests are called shenanigans, I love the storyline, I love how each spirit feels so fleshed out as people, I just love this game in general. It's one of those games that you want to have a good few hours free before you start playing though, because time passes so quickly and given the cozy nature of the game, it's often hard to find a 'good' place to stop

This was an amazing journey, and I really would recommend this game to everyone. I went through so many emotions and thoughts because of this game. So many characters share something really personal, that either connects to me or the people around me. If you really take the time to learn about the characters, you will gain so much more appreciation for this game. I might have all the achievements on steam, but there is so much left unexplored. The game is really big and so many side characters have fun little stories. The attention to detail is just incredible. I really wish I could go back in time and experience this all over again.

This is a game that I would in the end recommend. And what I mean is that this game is great, is arguably fantastic even. But, the games is very heavy on the theme of death of letting thing go and looking ahead. It tries to this in a happy way, but is very easily that it becomes very sad and depressing even. If this game doesnt make you have tears in your eyes, then I dont really know what will. Is it hits alot of different feelings. Even talking to someone can be enough with the feels. It even adds when the soundtrack is overall good and varied. This game is heartbreaking. It hits your heartstrings. And what is funny is that arguably two of the saddest games I have played might be in one year. With that said, the characters is good, varied and has alot of charm. The whole game has alot of charm and soul. You feel like you get too know the characters and why they are how the are. They can be heartbreaking, the can be funny, they can be motviating. The art style is excellent and has alot of details. I overall like the story, the premise is quiet simple it works due to the themes and characters. And the twist by the end is quiet good too. The same can be said about the dialogue, is heavy, it can be lighthearted , it can be sad and it can be depressing, but is good. For the gameplay there is alot of things I like here and that is you can pass time by fishing, by building, by making stuff, either is food, logs, fiber, glass and more and you can do multiple stuffs at the same time. How one bulding helps to get another, how one new area opens up alot of new possibiliities. Add to a wide variety of buldings, food , materials and so on I found the gameplay quiet good. I also like that you can fish in this game I like the way the quests works here or errands. I like that your "companions" need to be both hugged at times, given food, helping them with personal stuff. It a game that you have to go into it doenst have any real combat.

The game turned out to be much bigger than initially expected. I was hesitating on buying it for a long time, mainly due to the artistic style. But eventually, I can tell that it's a great game with many well thought through details and mechanics that keep you wondering what's next and explore further. Well written characters, jokes, dialogues. At times not very obvious, but the game had a clear progression from the very start. I think it's a great game where everyone might find something to relate to.

It's definitely a better option in terms of cozy games... but to be honest, aside from art and the farming aspect, I dont like it that much. Especially because the characters are somehow rather cold and unlikeable for me... and this games is missing a warmth in its writing, which makes it not so cozy for me.

A game that will break your heart, heal it, break it again... and heal it again. It's about death and coming to terms with the inevitable, it's tragically bittersweet. I could gush all day about the characters, they are all so unique and captivating. Some resonated more than others, and some of them aim to rip your heart out! The gameplay is also just very fun and engaging, its a platform adventure with a little bit of farming and building. There's always something to do but it's at your own pace. I took my time playing, never felt rushed to do anything. It's also pretty easy, one or two of the mines have some tricky sections but it never got frustratingly difficult. Now, I think the primary reason I enjoyed this game to this extent is because I've experienced so much loss. I decided to check this game out when it was my cat's time to go, I've lost other pets before but she was a really special one. This game consoled me like no other, and helped me process the family I've lost as well. This story made me cry so many times, and I'm not often brought to tears over stories. If you need a game to play while you're grieving, this is it. And if you just wanna play a good game, then you found one. I would recommend this time and time again. Will be replaying this every now and then, it's a masterpiece like no other.
