A Rough Gem
- Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines is a really great game with a fun to play story, but there're so many wounds to the point that it's almost made you quit the game. Story - You hooked up with some guy/girl and got into the world of the Vampire. Simple as that. - You are not the chosen vampire or anything at all and this is why I love the game. - Characters are distinct enough from each other, but sadly they're not that polished. Presentation - It's so dark and gritty. So gothic and erotic I really like it! It suits the story and its world very well. Gameplay - It's.... ok. Melee fight might work and might not work. Guns are really bad to use, but there are so many sections that rely on guns. - The good thing about the gameplay is the leveling system. It's kinda like Fallout where you put the stats in that category and boom you are good at that. - Bosses fight are ok to meh. They are plain and simple, yet so annoying many times. Some bosses can make you feel like you suffering from success. Performance - Unplayable if you're not install the Unofficial Patch mod. - Runs very smooth, but you know it's and old game. The longer you play the more crack it shows. So you have to restart the game or take a break from it from time to time. - Many bugs here and there.
Overall
- VTMB is a gem of a game. It's a game that feels like no others. It has it flaws, but it never stop to amazed me with the world, the factions and the story. Gameplay is playable, but might made you quit from time to time. Bugs are many and it's kinda funny that the game cannot be played without installed the mod. But still it's such a great game and shouldn't be left to lost to time. And lastly DO NOT OPEN IT. Thank you

RPG that aged like fine wine. Captures the mood of World of Darkness perfectly. One of the rare RPG where your decisions and build matters for quest outcomes. Combat has aged but it's a breeze if you invest in it early on. Playtime isn't accurate: I was playing on the unofficial patch.

My game time is inaccurate, I've played almost 1000 hours over the course of different mods. Literally the best game ever, if only they'd do it justice with a real sequel (Not bloodlines 2)

It's pretty amazing what was done with the Source engine in this game before it was even officially released with Half-Life 2. Too bad that there wasn't anyone to keep Troika on a leash though, lots of aspirations from their side but no one to keep it within limits which resulted in a lot of unfinished content- it also could be because they worked on a pre-release version of Source as well. Regardless, the art style, sound design, soundtrack and characters will help you immerse yourself into the universe of this game very quickly. It respects the vampire mythology which is very fun and I guess the whole point of the Masquerade tbh. The Ocean House Hotel is also the most memorable part of the game as it is very reminiscent of the classic horror movies, I wish that section was a bit longer or that ghosts were approached the way they were in Masquerade in other games. It's a very untapped potential wasted by coloring human characters green and making them slightly transparent, boring.

a game that manages to be both a buggy dumpster fire and an absolute gem at the same time, vtmb clearly launched unfinished and the unofficial fan patch is a mandatory install here. despite a boatload of jank and a poor third act that screams *we ran out of time & resources*, bloodlines remains a game quite unlike any other i’ve played. the immersive sim qualities, atmosphere, music, characters, dialogue and worldbuilding are all ridiculously high in quality, this game has a certain vibe and level of immersion that is almost unmatched in the RPG genre. mediocre combat and a rushed out the door third act that focuses on the weaker aspects of gameplay hold this back from being a masterpiece, but i’ll always wonder what could’ve been and appreciate what we got 8.8/10

Usually playing old games like this for the first time is hard and you don't have nostalgia helping you out. This game is fucking awesome though. The RPG elements are great, the world is very immersive, everything is voice acted, and it's so ridiculously early 2000s culture I love it. They don't make em like this anymore.

Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodlines is one of the most immersive and unique RPGs I have played. Despite its janky edges and 2004-era bugs (download the unofficial patch!), the storytelling, branching dialogue, and roleplaying depth are still unmatched in 2025. The world of vampires, politics, and insanity is dark, funny, and endlessly replayable - especially if you dare to pick Malkavian as your clan. If you love story-rich games, character-driven dialogue, and moral choices, play this game. Buy now and embrace the madness. 🦇 I made a full video review roleplaying as a Malkavian — check my profile or YouTube for some chaos. https://youtu.be/NPyNZ3fBMtU

Bloodlines is one of my all-time favorite games, it’s practically a core memory. Not just because it’s good, which it absolutely is, but because it pulls off something most games still can’t: making you truly believe your character belongs in its world. The atmosphere, the writing, the insane clan-specific dialogue options that still slap harder than most modern RPGs, this game shaped my taste in everything from character builds to eyeliner. You’re not just role-playing. You are your clan. Whether you’re brooding as a Ventrue, unraveling as a Malkavian, or obsessing over your own reflection as a Toreador, Bloodlines lets you live the Masquerade like no other game has ever managed. Yes, it’s old. Yes, it was broken on launch. But that’s where the modding community swoops in with a passion usually reserved for cults or small indie religions. The Unofficial Patch, does more than fix bugs. It restores cut content, rebalances gameplay, and keeps this gothic trainwreck alive. Then there’s the Clan Quest Mod, which adds new quests and dialogue tailored to your clan, and the Antitribu Mod, if you want to throw canon out the window and dive into chaos. Steam shows only 40~ minutes played. That’s because mods launch the game through a separate executable, and I never bothered with the fix that tracks playtime properly, there is a guide made by the community for that though. Every time I replay it, I find something new. A bit of cut dialogue, a weird NPC animation, a random alley that somehow scares me more than most horror games, and that werewolf, fuck that guy. This game isn’t perfect, but it kinda is? If you’re even remotely interested in vampires, RPGs, or storytelling that’s more than “kill ten rats”, you owe it to yourself to play Bloodlines, and always with mods. Trust me, mod the hell out of it.

First time player. Went with Malkavian(?spelling). Best decision ever. Endgame gets very difficult and janky combat wise though. I ended up going god mode for one fight and noclip through the sewer part. Otherwise amazingly fun game, considering its age and I have no idea about the vampires background but that didnt matter. Starts out very strong. The story stays decent but the missions and areas feel rushed at the end. Pick it up on sale unless your like a fan of the series.

this game is honestly a gem, even with all its jank and MAJOR game breaking bugs. its still so good. gameplay is ok for how old it is as well. the best parts of this game are 4 things 1. The writing is honestly really great, moments like jeanette's introduction are all over the game. 2. the world. the world of darkness is amazing and i wish more was done with it over the years, to sum it up its your modern day world but the supernatural is real, magic is real (not sure about all kinds though) and its tone is really dark and gritty. and i mean really dark 3. the atmosphere of this game is something out of a dream, this game can and will turn into a horror game on the flip of a switch purely with the music, level design\enviroment, and dialog. 4. The roleplay aspect of this game is also great imo, the different vampire clans all have something to offer in both gameplay and roleplay. Gangrel can grow claws and turn into a wolf, tremere has blood magic, venture is your stuck up gaudy vampire who can only feed on well off humans, nosferatu are cursed to look really ugly so you have to use the sewers to get around the world lest you risk violating the masquerade, malkavian hear voices that sometimes tell the truth or make you feel the need to argue with a stop sign (not a joke) all in all this game while a little jank is amazing, and i would recommend it to anyone who loves rpgs. MAKE SURE TO DOWNLOAD THE UNOFFICAL PATCH BY Wesp5 so that you can finish the game, it also adds cut content among other things.

This game was supposed to fail. Despite bugs, despite the jank, despite the garbage fire that's Source 2003, this game somehow manages to create an immersive atmosphere and engaging the player, things that some modern AAA devs just can't do. This game is being held together by the love of the devs for the source material and the love of the fans for it and it's (mostly) one of the best RPG games. If you get it, makes sure to install the unoffical patch plus version.

VTM:B is a genre defining action-RPG that focuses on whats been sorely lacking in games of recent time, the ROLE playing. If you at all appreciate player driven choices in a well developed and extremely interesting setting, submerge yourself into the blood and filth of early-2000s LA. You begin as a fledgling, a "newborn vampire", sired and thrown into the deep end of clan disputes and turf wars. It's sink or swim as you try to navigate through underground kindred society with the grace of a werewolf in a glass observatory. Do grunt work. Make acquaintances. Ask centuries old beings their take on morality. Browse through a porno shop. It's certainly shown its age, as playing without the patch (as I did on my first play though) is not recommended. Bugs range from graphical to quest breaking. Consult the unnoficial patch to play the game how it was meant to be experienced. It could also be overwhelming for newer players to be put off by the leveling system in this game, like myself when I first tried to play it many years ago. Let me give you some advice: Use your eyes. Read your skills. Use your brain. Its really not difficult, save for the near end when the game becomes a stat check. And whatever you do, DONT open the sarcophagus.

This game is old and archaic in many gameplay aspects. Combat systems in it are pretty bad and overall, the game was never actually finished because it was rushed for release. Despite all this, it is still one of the greatest RPG's of all time (with one of the worst sewer sections of all time) and worth trying even today (just make sure to get Unofficial Patch version 11+ as it the game without it is borderline unplayable at times). It is more dialogue and story oriented rather than action-focused, most quests have several options for completion and direct combat is not always the best option. The game is not very long but offers high replayability value due to varieties between playable characters (for example, playing as Nosferatu forces you to utilise stealth and use sewers for moving around as normal humans will attack you on sight. And when you play as Malkavian, you're simply insane). The game is well worth the price IMO, although if you're patient it also often goes on sale. I fully recommend it but only with the Unofficial Patch.

I have absolutely loved playing through this game on the Unofficial Patch version, unfortunately I have never finished the game due to probably the worst sewer level in gaming history. Not sure what they were smoking when they designed "The way of kings" questline but I can safely say I will never finish the game because of it.

This game is one of the very few games that I wanted (not coersed via 100% achievement farming) to replay multiple times. It's definitely on the list as one of my all-time favourite games... and this realisation was only possible by Wesp5's Unofficial Patch (v11.5 in my playthroughs)... as without it the game tossed an error about "not enough memory" and refused to load in 2025. Not sure exactly how many years ago I originally bought it, but steam listed less than an hour in-game when I decided to re-install. 115+ hours later my playthroughs were: 1) Nosferatu (Anarch Ending) ... in hindsight, probably not the best first choice 2) Malkavian (Independent Ending) ... Malk was fun, but the "twisted" chat responses were annoying at times 3) Tremere (Camarilla Ending) ... mmm, the mage build, very nice

Awesome game. Never really knew what vampire the masquerade universe was before this game, but I imagine this game lives up to the standard of this apparently massive universe. I went in blind choosing my clan, and ended up with the malkavians, who are noted for being literal insane vampires. This made things much more interesting and fun with the unique dialogue and speech/influence checks (I told a fat cop to run because he was gonna get barbecued like a pig, like come on) Combat can be a little janky, but the release date explains that away pretty quickly. The characters are interesting, especially when you see all the different shades of the camarilla for the first time and they all make note of your insanity. Great replay-ability with the different clans and endings, though the ending i chose seemed very shallow and short from a storytelling POV, which was unexpected for this game considering the world they've built around it. Play this game if you haven't. Go in blind. Have an open mind and work through some of the longer sections, and for Cain's sake get some extra blood bags.

"You got mail!" Severely outdated, crashes frequently, but- there is an Unofficial Patch! Which proceeded to Donkey Kick my ability to even play the game- it's completely broken. Even after uninstalling and reinstalling the game & the patch, it's still broken. Can't launch a new character as it's completely broken, multiple game breaking bugs that I had hoped would be fixed utilizing said patch completely halt all your progress... but hey, glad I can actually see what those fuzzy icons on my HUD are supposed to look like now, and It has my correct Resolution... Fantastic. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time, which is a darn shame, b/c up until the game metaphorically screwed the pooch it was a pretty solid 9/10 experience. RIP Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines... _____________________________ [UPDATE] Finally somehow fixed the previous game breaking bug, only to stumble upon another a couple hours later. Do. Not. Bother. Fantastic game, utterly broken beyond repair, the community tried but they couldn't fix it either.
