The core game design of Moonbreaker is incredibly interesting as far as digital wargaming goes. However, the Devs kneecapped the game in a few ways: - Early-Access Monetization Schemes They initially had a lootbox system with premium currency to get new units, which was not a smart move for an early access game to be doing in the first place. This limited the initial community greatly in terms of commitment and scale, and also reduced the quality of the game play feedback they were able to produce. I myself only got into the game after that system was removed, but the damage was done. - Online-Only Syndrome Seriously, there is no reason that a game like this should be online-only. In fact, with the VS. AI and Painter functions being inaccessible despite being easily implementable locally, and the developers not actually informing players on the store page that it was inaccessible without an internet connection, I seriously question what the intention of this was. - Mute Interaction There is no way to actually talk with your opponents when you play this game, which is fine conceptually, but the lack of a way of developing a community around the game within the environment of the game itself for something like a wargame, which is considered an inherently social hobby, is strange. - Non-Communicative Release A Game which demands an online-only experience, and made into live-service, is typically expected to be given special care not only during the release, but long after. Older games avoided this issue by providing their community with tools to host dedicated servers, generate content, and elsewise. The devs in this case are not really doing any talking with the community post-launch, the discord server is a ghost town, and generally things have become completely nonexistent.

No one is playing, which kills the game immediately. Looks neat, neat concept, but is dead as of my writing this.

The game is so fun and addictive! I love beating my buddy 17 times before they finally get a win! I wish there was more people playing this game, it's truly underrated! If you're into XCOM, Warhammer, D&D, etc. I would give this game a go with a buddy cause it takes a while to find a public game. I wonder if they'll add a 2v2 or 3v3 mode.
