Car Mechanic Simulator 2018

It's cool, but it's not very realistic (technical inaccuracies, oversimplifications, lack of physical behaviours of certain things, rudimentary driving, tycoon/management game mechanics (a lot of old cars are reworked/renovated and sold at a loss — ask my IRL car mechanic friend), etc.). Still, relatively useful for IRL car mechanic noobs. It's moddable, which is awesome. Still, there are weird limitations, e.g. a Fiat 126p mod (very old car, the last one was produced in 1991) has an OBD port (which is nonsense). I very much doubt that this is done by the modder non-deliberately, which means that there are some modding limitations that necessitate introducing nonsensical stuff, which isn't cool for games with the word "simulator" in their title. Another thing that isn't cool is that there are some cars that are NOT reintroduced from older versions of the "game" (e.g. CMS2015). A significant example for me is the Fiat 126 (I wanted to own a 126p when I was in highschool 17 years ago). The weirder thing is that it isn't even licensed (named "Youngtimer"): https://store.steampowered.com/app/361820/Car_Mechanic_Simulator_2015__Youngtimer/ Thus, if you want to play with a vanilla 126, you need CMS2015, which is sad. I recently purchased CMS2021 with almost all the DLCs (still haven't tried it), but I'll probably skip on upcoming versions. While not as complex and offering much less freedom, it still has the Kerbal Space Program vibe I've been chasing for years. P.S. The intro cinematic (more precisely, the movement of the humans) reminded me the game cinematic technology of Diablo 2 (2000).

Adds a few more mechanics to the game and makes it less simple than the previous games. Overall, I like it but some of the jobs get tedious with all the extra manual steps the previous games didn't have. 8/10 rating for this category

It is a good game to simulate work as a car mechanic and repair your cars. You`ll have to "grind" a lot and do the same things over and over again... You have to wait a long time to unlock some importand upgrades for your workshop.

Car Mechanic Simulator 2018 is a solid and surprisingly relaxing game. It does a great job of capturing the satisfaction of taking things apart, fixing them, and putting them back together. The attention to detail in the car parts and repair processes is impressive, and there's a nice sense of progression as you upgrade your garage and tools. While I personally think the 2021 version improves on a lot — especially in graphics, variety, and overall polish — the 2018 edition still holds up well and offers a rewarding experience for anyone who enjoys simulation games or has a passion for cars.

Came for the cars, stayed because I unscrewed the wrong bolt and now the engine is in 47 pieces and I have no idea what I’m doing. Car Mechanic Simulator 2018 is the most realistic experience you can have fixing cars without actually having to crawl under one and question all your life choices. It starts innocently enough—you fix a few brake pads, change some oil, feel good about yourself. Then suddenly you're rebuilding a V8 engine from scratch, and your garage looks like a murder scene for pistons. The gameplay loop is pure mechanic zen: 🔧 Take apart broken thing. 🧠 Forget how it goes back together. 🛠️ Google it. 😤 Put it back together wrong. 💸 Charge customer anyway. Every car that comes into your garage has a mysterious illness like “it makes a weird noise when I accelerate” or “the steering wheel fell off and hit me in the face.” You’re the miracle worker who diagnoses it by staring intensely at rust for 10 seconds. Graphics are gorgeous. I’ve never seen such lovingly rendered bolts in my life. You will learn the name of every obscure part of a suspension system, and you will respect it. Pro tip: Do not, under any circumstances, take a restoration job thinking “this will be fun.” It will not be fun. It will be 6 hours of disassembling rusted nightmares and realizing you forgot to drain the oil again. Would I recommend it? Yes. But only if you’re ready to become the kind of person who judges NPCs for not changing their air filters in 100,000 km. Final Score: 12 stripped bolts out of 10.
