Hard West

Meh... All the difficulty boils down to the HP and power of weapons. And since there are skills which help you with HP of enemies, it all boils down to get them before final fight. Other than that- 1 shot per round (with like 3-4 weapons allowing 2 WOW) and not being able to use "Overwatch", like X-COM-games, all the tactics in the battle you need is "run around from cover to cover and try to flank your enemies". Even in battles where you're defending some house. So... they took X-COM, made it worse, re-painted into Western and gave it to us. If you can get this game cheap - it's ok to get.

Short "review": I played this almost 7 years ago and stopped for reasons that elude me today. Since Hard West 2 is on sale now I wanted to revisit this one to make the decision easier, maybe get into the mood even more. After a few hours I "quit to menu" and after that no loading of a savefile or continue was possible. Read online that it should save when quitting from the world map like I did. So I tried it - rushed through the prologue, quit like before aaaaand - there was the possibility to continue. So it just didn't work after my longer run, huh? Gamebreaking bugs even after so many years? Yeah, suck my... I mean: Count me out.

Boring and dysfunctional I was intrigued by an opportunity to play a turn-based light-RPG game about the Wild West (+ some horror), but the gameplay is horrible: there is no skill, it's all about how much HP you bring to the fight, plus some absurd mechanics such as shooting through the wooden walls (!) The missions are disconnected and the story seems haphazardly stitched together.

Took me a few attempts of a few years to get into it and finally finish it, but I'm glad I took the time to do so now during my downtime. The turn-based strategy is nice, but not the best I've experienced. It was the overall aesthetics and weird west genre that made me want to even consider it in the first place. Quite frankly I think the world needs far more weird west, and the darker the better. I found the horror aspects in this game to be pretty weak, but that's ok. Not everyone is as desensitised to things as I am. Not gonna lie, I used a walkthrough for this game for the overland map stuff, but not for the turn-based combat portion of the game. Don't even remember when I bought this, but it was most likely during a sale or as part of some bundle somewhere many years ago.

Black screen bug. There's the part where you can go to the end boss fight or carry on doing things. Ran into the black screen bug when you finally go to the fight. Found a solution that worked for me. You must finish that level in one sitting once the boss fight becomes available. Stop and save, come back to it later. Hello Black screen.

I really want to like this game, But in the steam store all the pic show all the XCOM parts of the game was like cool western XCOM, then reality comes shows you that 90% of the game is the map where you choose options each time you select the map but never see your character doing something Just let me push a book to read what the option you selected give you then after all that you get 4 mission each scenario where you get to XCOM lol
