Does not have a volume control.
No cloud save. You reinstall, you lose all progress.

Game is good for a buck or two, it looks beautiful, some story perhaps behind the cryptic messages, but the puzzles are rather easy, and not saving my progress despite having the achievements unlocked is not great. At this point I would expect to have these kinks sorted out. Buy it on sale.

There is beauty in simplicity, and yet perplexity in perspectives.
Short and fun challenge, with impressive and breathtaking level design.
Good experience on the Steam Deck!

It has pleasant visuals and audio, so its good for a short relaxing game. However it is VERY short with extremely simple puzzles that until the last stage barely require any thought. The controls also are not great. Apparently there is a better version on mobile that you should get instead. Overall. I would say get it on a sale for $1-2 if you want a short pleasant game, but do not expect actually challenging puzzles.

Wow, just wow! First things first, it's one of these rare puzzle games that can also be atmospheric when something awesome it's really happening, it never feels like it's too slow and/or boring, and it always innovates itself and surprises you.
I mean, even the basic idea was awesome, but it still kept evolving more and more, even in the already included DLCs (that isn't a given for most games, above all in DLCs). And it manages to do all that even in the situations where you have to collaborate with other beings in the game, which is usually when many games make you slow down a lot to do annoying puzzles that just take more times instead of being truly difficult, while in this game I think it makes things even more dynamic. I still have to play the second game, but I can already say that personally this and The Last Campfire are the best purely puzzle games between the many ones that I've seen and/or played. If the second is also this good or even better, I could say the same for the whole Monument Valley series also, I'm also excited for the third one coming very soon

This was a nice little puzzle game. Most of the puzzles were pretty easy, nothing was crazy, though there were a handful where the nature of the perspective breaking got me until it didn't.
Couple of the levels are crazy to look at though, one is like a puzzle box that unwraps as you go and its really neat. It's very pretty and relaxing and worth seeing. And this game is frequently on sale for just a dollar or two, it's worth the time.

While artistically and technically impressive and revolving around an interesting concept, I whish the developers had done more with it. Outside of the two last levels of main game and DLC, I can honestly barely call this a "puzzle" game, as for the most part it's practically linear and doesn't require any thinking whatsoever. The moments requiring any brain activity are few and far between even considering game's very short duration (which wouldn't be a problem, had it provided a more concentrated experience). Overall I'd only recommend it if you either really enjoy the visuals or are a very casual player and can get it on a discount.

It's so incredibly smooth. The colour palette, the soundtrack, the super clean artstyle and the short (fairly easy) puzzles. Just a perfect relaxing casual game.

One of the greatest relaxing puzzles ever made!
Monument Valley is easily one of the greatest relaxing puzzle games I’ve played. Every level is like walking through a dream — filled with clever illusions and peaceful logic that never frustrates. The super soulful art with soft colors creates a calming vibe from start to finish, and the soundtrack pairs perfectly with the slow, thoughtful pace.
It’s a short journey, but every minute feels meaningful. Whether you're a puzzle veteran or just looking to unwind, this is a beautifully crafted experience that sticks with you long after it's over.

Excellent casual puzzle game with a great minimalistic art style. The Escher-like puzzles are well crafted and just the right difficulty level, in my opinion. The game actions and animations are slow-paced, which fits the vibe but can be annoying at times. I'd recommend playing Monument Valley a level per day.

This is a beautiful game in every sense of the word. It has a life of its own and I wish I could find out more about the wonderful world but I'm only given glances through puzzles. But maybe I'm just looking for something that I'm not supposed to find and just enjoy the music, scenery, and puzzles. Highly recommend.

As the description of the game says it's a chill puzzle game with a sprinkle of story that pieces together who Ida is and why she's traveling around. I even finished it with a sense of accomplishment that I normally don't get with these types of puzzle games. I highly recommend playing it and also getting the 2nd game with it as well <3

Kind of a slow start, but chapter 6 is intense, man.
Steam Deck tip: set resolution to 2560x1600 and linear scaling; it still runs at 60fps but antialiasing is much better.

The enjoyment of this game really depends on what you are looking for or expecting. If you want a very chill, relaxing, and easy game, then this is the game for you. Took me about 3.5 hours to complete. If you are looking for a challenge, then you will probably be disappointed. This game is just a beautiful game playing with geometry in a rather M.C. Escher fashion. There's not really a story or much challenge to it, but it is pretty relaxing. I would say pick it up on sale, since it is so short.

I remember playing this game with my grandma during the beta test, after it released on Android I bought it for myself, then bought the DLC as well. This game, (along with PvZ) is my childhood and I love replaying it yearly both for the memories and to re-experience this fantastic game.

I got this version coz I liked he idea of replaying it through but with a panoramic view. I thought I'd finish it in an instant but, I was so blown away with the big screen HD experience, where it was as if I myself had been drawn deeply immersed into the MV world: that I couldn't help but want to take my time, enjoy the scenic views, almost as though to breath in the fresh air of the places within expansive world of "Monument Valley". I was no longer merely playing a game called Monument Valley, I had actually entered Monument Valley, and it was absolutely breathtaking.

Loved it!
Great to play with someone else on the couch. Take turns to solve levels. It's really amazing to see hot they play with perspectives and when you think you've seen everything the game has to offer they bend your mind again.
Loved the totem, it was so cute 🥰

i think my dad buying this game for me on my phone has monumentally changed the way i see design in my life.
this game is simply BEAUTIFUL! it's creative, relaxed and not pushing on the player - it makes you appreciate the surroundings and the puzzles themselves even more
it's also pretty short, but it's not a problem for a game that costs 2 euros on a sale.

I was absolutely floored by Monument Valley. It was a game I overlooked, though not ever intentionally. It is a game by sheer unfortunate circumstance that it appears to be seemingly built to be overlooked, at least from the outside looking in. Monument Valley is a puzzle game, a genre that is not unpopular, but not hugely popular either. It is an Indie that only takes 1-2 hours to complete, and yet it sits at “Overwhelmingly Positive” on Steam. While I personally find the game beautiful in many ways, it doesn’t stand out much when you give it so much as a passing glance. Monument Valley looks like a pretty little game, which it is, and nothing is wrong with that, but the masses likely won’t latch onto it.
What a shame that is - for Monument Valley is a stunningly beautiful puzzle game not from sheer visuals alone, but on a music and game design standpoint as well. There is no voice acting whatsoever to be found here, and any dialogue you see is kept to a minimum. That very miniscule amount of written dialogue keeps the story very open to interpretation. For the sake of keeping things spoiler-free, I won’t provide my own explanation or interpretations. It’s a game you really and truly need to play on your own to genuinely absorb. I wouldn’t be able to do it justice by merely spelling it out to you here. I will say that it is a very heartfelt story that likely will resonate for many when they really read into the deeper meanings.
I’ll admit I’m a sucker for atmospheric games and Monument Valley is one of those, forming a unique atmosphere with aplomb. The music is brilliant, with the beautiful melodic notes really doing numbers for the game’s overall vibes. It invoked Journey the most for me, which is one of my favorite games of all time for its melancholy beauty and loneliness. Monument Valley has a very similar energy. It is so completely and utterly lonely-feeling of a game, and I love it for that. I think games can portray that unique hollowness of melancholy like no other medium really can, so I highly value it when a game like Monument Valley is able to pull that off. The music helps form that melancholy atmosphere into something hauntingly marvelous.
The puzzle design in Monument Valley is near-perfect. It is so great at ensuring you’re not frustrated at all through your playthrough, at least not for long. Unlike many other puzzle games where you may bang your head against the wall for a prolonged period of time as the game progresses, Monument Valley is very much a comfortable difficulty. It’s the perfect difficulty, in fact. It isn’t too hard and it's not too easy either. It manages to captivate even a person like me who doesn’t usually gel with puzzle games, giving me those satisfying eureka moments whenever a puzzle is solved. As a result of its comfortable difficulty, Monument Valley is a very relaxing game to play and I somewhat wish it was longer. Though I am aware that Monument Valley has additional downloadable content as well as a sequel, I particularly don’t think it necessarily needs that to resonate the way it does. I believe Monument Valley is, was, and will always be special in its vanilla state.
Monument Valley’s core gameplay is simplistic but also rather fresh, and that’s why it works. You click on the screen to guide Ida towards the goal of each level. You click and drag parts of the level to adjust the layout as needed to solve puzzles and guide the protagonist, Princess Ida, to her goal. That’s all there is to it, to encapsulate what the game’s core design is as briefly as possible. It knows what it wants to do as a game artistically, it sets out to do it, and it pulls it off wonderfully. Each level itself has their own spin on the game’s core design. One level will have you shifting around a totem in conjunction with Ida to progress through the level, while another level has you rotating the entire stage to progress. Perspective puzzles are also common in Monument Valley, where you can only progress by angling the stage in specific ways that may look like an illusion at first glance, but allow you to progress to a higher platform or area. I was particularly thrilled from one level that was designed to be contained entirely inside a small box. You’d tug on different parts of the box with your mouse, which would reveal different parts of the level. When Ida went from one part of the level to another, you’d have to close the box and tug open the section she went into, like a pop-up book. It really floored me with how incredibly ingenious and adorable it was for a design. It blew my mind honestly and it was here Monument Valley really cemented itself as an excellently designed puzzle game to me.
I’d highly recommend giving Monument Valley a shot at some point or another. If you like melancholy games like me or merely puzzle games in general, I cannot recommend this wonderful art piece enough. Fantastic work.

Monument valley is one of those games that I will always come back to. I played it as a kid on my mom's phone, downloaded from the app store. I loved the look of it, it was the first app I spent any money on because I felt strongly about it. I got incredibly attached to Ida, seeing her highs and lows through the story, and eventually came back to the game when I had a steam account / had the time to game again.
And It is just as beautiful as I remember, I've replayed it and gotten to feel all those emotions all over again. For having so few words outside of the places with the ghosts, Monument valley conveys so many feelings through little idle animations, the environment, and how you utilize the area. The art meshing so well with the puzzles will always leave me feeling awestruck, in how seamlessly buildings or lines can blend together at Just the right angle to make movement possible. Having played Monument Valley 2 as well, Looking forward to 3!

A good puzzle game. You should play it if you like puzzle games. The atmosphere's good, the puzzles are occasionally demanding in a very rewarding way, and you'll get the good brain sizzle when you work out a solution and then put it into action.
Menus are kind of irritating though. Not exactly a deal-breaker, but the interface can be a bit clunky.
Overall, only one very minor gripe spoils what would otherwise be a perfect little puzzle experience. Strong recommend.

I have purchased this game on several platforms, and I have completed it and its sequel countless times. I cannot recommend enough if you like puzzles, but this series is particularly special because of its design revolving around non-Euclidean geometry and impossible objects. The story behind each level is subtle and impactful, and you can intuit the significance of Ida's arc without much in-game explanation. 10/10.

TL;DR tried FEZ before? You'd love this game. This game is the goat of all non-Euclidean-based geometry puzzles.
This game is super personal to me, mainly because I used to play this game a lot back in the days of my old iPad 2 (that would already be at least 6 years old back when I played this game). I remember being stuck on the final level of the base game. Looking back at it, it feels surreal that I eventually would play the same level alone, without the help of my family....
Straightforward gameplay. I don't need to explain it. You'd understand it when you play it. It's a perspective-based puzzle game, bro.
This game features some of the coolest and most aesthetically pleasing puzzles of all time. It's more of a relaxation game than a puzzle game, if I'm being completely honest. The isometric landscape being portrayed is just downright mesmerizing, to say the least.
The DLC absolutely wrecked my brain. If you think that the base game was too easy then hoo boy you're definitely in for a treat. Both Ida's Dream and Forgotten Shores.
The background ambience boosts immersion of the experience by a HUGE TON. It's a great atmospheric piece of work that is — curiously — not available to be bought as a separate soundtrack DLC for the game. That's missed chance right there cause I'd buy it in a heartbeat (even though it's basically an ambient track).
There's definitely a story in this game, I just couldn't point it out or get the narrative of it. I know there's a subtle hint of storytelling from the dialogues, but I believe that this game is more of a visual experience more than a written narrative experience.
I would 100% recommend you this game if you need a game to relax to. It's only like, 4 bucks during sale.
(also I do realise that using em dashes does make me look like an AI trying to review this game. sorry.)

Growing up, I got my first phone at a relatively young age. As any kid without conscious thought, I pumped so many mobile games into that piece of junk. Name a popular game and that overheated phone would most likely have it. For a short time, these types of games were my bread and butter. But there was one app that was so visually stunning that it imprinted into my memory, and shaped my taste in mobile games. That game, of course, was called Monument Valley.
Revisiting this experience many years later holds up incredibly well. The visuals and soundtrack pairing together like peanut butter and jelly; deliciously satisfying color schemes over an ambient synth soundtrack subdues you into a relaxed, dreamlike state. Even at a young age, I got goosebumps hearing the ambiance blasting through the single working Skull Candy earbud. Each level made me daydream of living in such breathtakingly isometric structures. The level designs are fun and contain clever optical illusions. You could take a screenshot of any level and use it as a screensaver. Even subtle elements like the sound design of the moving level pieces are very pleasing to the ear. There was lots of care taken into designing this game and it shows.
However, I'm not entirely clouded by nostalgia. The menu lacks a proper music slider to turn the music to a certain percentage. You can either listen to the music, or turn it off entirely. The same issue lies with the sound effects. Many of the puzzles are easily solvable, with or without a guide. I personally enjoyed these "easy" puzzles. It added to the laid back design of the game. However, I can see why this is an issue among the reviews. If you enjoy difficult puzzles that require lots of thought and concentration, this game might not be for you.
Overall, I highly recommend this game. Please keep in mind that there's only 19 levels. Whether this amount is enough for you or not enough is entirely up to you. Regardless, the experience from the mobile version ports well onto the PC. If you're looking for a short and sweet story to unwind to after a long day of work, play this game and soak up the chill vibes.

A very good and relaxing puzzle game! The puzzles are really fun and really get you thinking, but are still easy enough that it doesn't become annoying. But it is very short. (takes ~2.5 hrs to fully complete)
The minimalistic style for every level really fits well with how the puzzles work combined with the illusionistic design.

Many years ago, when I was still a graduate student, I played this game on my phone. At that time, I only completed the ten chapters of the main storyline game, and did not play the last nine chapters because they cost money. Later, I recommended this game to my father, and he loved playing it and has always had this game on his phone.
