GemCraft - Chasing Shadows

Fun tower defence game but the post game meta doesn't interest me. Still lots of TD maps to have fun with until you beat the game tho.

GemCraft is the type of game which you have to keep playing. The machines are perfected, I myself have known about the games for years before I started playing. Now that I have started playing it I have to keep playing until I scrape the bottom of it. It's just that good… gameplay 10/10 - you have to keep playing, mixing gem types and finding out the best way to beat each level is awesome. I beat the game's main story months ago, but I still have to keep playing because I have fun all the time I play. I will give a brief explanation of the game. The first thing you do each level is either placing a tower or a trap(some levels have them placed from the start). Afterwards, depending on the level you choose which type of gem to use(Some levels you are “forced” to use more unique gems and some levels force you think about the long play because of their length) After you place your gems you start the game by calling waves. You then watch as your towers slaughter monsters and upgrade your gems to help kill them faster(sometimes you also choose to put more gems, or just farm Mane to help build up power for the next wave). This is it mostly, there are some special boss type monsters, and there are sometimes others unique elements but this is what you do in this game. Do not get me wrong, this formula is perfected here. If you like games like kingdom rush and others of its type you will have fun! Graphics 8.6/10 - the game is fun to look at, even if it's more on the minimal side. The gems are beautiful and the enemies are fun to look at, the towers are cool and the environments are a blend of fantasy and realism. The story mode also has some unique art pieces in it which give life to the game. Nothing more and nothing less on this front. Music 8/10 - the music is nice to listen to too, but I prefer sometimes to play other stuff in the background instead. Overall 9.2/10 - You will have fun playing the game if you like towers defense games! If you are worried, try the online free version and download from the developer site the older games to play first to see what you think about them. If you like them you will like this one as well! Extreme - frostborn the next game after this one is a different type of game, I advise players to think about playing it after playing this one more. But I advise players to think carefully about buying it. Thanks for reading.

Like most people I played this or some version of it on the Armor Games website, 10 or 15 years ago. This was the first game I ever bought on Steam and I still enjoy playing it! One of the best tower defense games ever.
