A fun micro progression mining game mixed with tower defense*. Starting a run always feels like a drag, the base speed, mining speed, and progression is almost annoying, but afterwards, the game takes off and is a lot of fun. Not the most appealing to re-open because you think of those first 5-10 minutes of a run. Still a fun game for the money spent and a unique experience.

I am a dwarf and i'm digging a hole, diggy diggy hole! Yeah, I enjoy the gameplay loop of digging, finding, upgrade, kill. THEN you can download a GIF of your run and watch where you went.

Its a great game about defending your base from monsters while micro managing a mine under neath it is indeed a fun game however very time consuming. Each run could take anywhere from 15 minutes to a little over an our. However if you can get past the difficulty scaling and the amount of time it takes its great with a wonderful mod workshop.

I can definitely recommend Dome Keeper as a compelling tower defense/resource gathering type game with some roguelite elements. It is compelling, addictive, thoughtful, power-fantasy fulfilling among other great qualities. I wasn't sure how long this game would remain this fun, but it has lasted long enough to reach a level where I'm quite satisfied with what I've gotten in return for my investment. I want to keep playing and unlock all of the special assignments and then work my way into beating everything at a harder level. It's really fun and the loop is seemingly dynamic enough to keep me going. Though, i do wonder if the mining aspect will remain as compelling as it is right now. I bet if I try the other miner things will become fresh again with it's unique mechanics and etc. So far I haven't thought to myself once, hmmm this game would be so good if... except maybe to say that a little more randomness might make the game feel a bit more fresh and unpredictable. That said, I'm not sure how that could be implemented well. Anyway, sweet game! Definitely a buy from me!

Incredibly addictive gameplay loop. You go between phases of mining and defending your dome. It's like tower defense mixed with resource management and it's a lovely combo. There are a lot of unlockable modifiers and options which allows for a ton of replayability. To the developer - I would absolutely love to see some DLC on this. Another type of character to compete with the two you have already, More modes, unlocks, monsters, a new type of material to mine, gadgets, whatever.

Definitely a fun roguelite with lots of combinations and setups to try. The keeper challenges (main aspect of replayability) are well thought out and creative!

Absolutely love the style, the details, the athmosphere they created along the absolutely unique and epic soundtrack. I really hope the devs stick to this game and only make it better. For me this is a treasure.

Great game with a solid core loop. Mine for resources, spend those resources on upgrades, and then defend your dome against waves of enemies. Special mention to the audio, the sound effects are great.

This game gets better the more you play it. It has a loop that seems simple at first, but the unlocks are hidden initially - and they really take the game new places.

Dome Keeper is a unique and captivating blend of tower defense, mining, and resource management that crafts a surprisingly deep experience within a compact pixel-art aesthetic. Developed by Alliance Interactive, the game puts you in the role of the last line of defense on a distant alien planet, tasked with protecting your fragile dome from waves of relentless, night-time alien attacks. The premise sounds simple, but what makes Dome Keeper stand out is its elegant combination of strategic base defense and engaging underground exploration, all wrapped in a cycle of day-and-night gameplay that constantly keeps the player balancing risk and reward. Gameplay in Dome Keeper revolves around two core loops: mining for resources during the day, and defending your dome from alien assaults at night. During the daylight hours, you pilot a mining drill beneath the surface, excavating valuable minerals such as copper, iron, and the more precious crystals needed to upgrade your defenses and equipment. The mining mechanics are intuitive yet satisfying, with a focus on strategic route planning to maximize efficiency and avoid running out of energy. Collecting resources isn’t just a side task—it’s essential for survival, as every upgrade you unlock in the dome’s defense system, including turrets, shields, and structural reinforcements, depends on the materials you extract from the planet. When night falls, the pace intensifies as waves of alien creatures attack your dome. The defense phase is where the game’s tower defense roots shine. You must wisely deploy and manage your turrets, power generators, and defensive structures to hold back increasingly aggressive enemies. The balance between offense and defense is well-tuned—neglect your mining too much and you won’t have resources to upgrade; neglect your defenses, and the dome is overrun. This tension creates a compelling loop that challenges players to constantly optimize both sides of the game. The pixel art style is charming yet functional, with clear visual cues that make it easy to track enemies, resources, and upgrades even during the hectic defense waves. The aesthetic strikes a great balance between nostalgic retro visuals and modern clarity. The sound design complements the atmosphere well, with ambient underground noises during mining and urgent, pulse-pounding audio during attacks, creating an immersive sense of urgency and isolation. One of the game’s strongest features is its progression system. Each successful night survived grants access to better technology and upgrades, encouraging players to refine their mining routes and defensive strategies. The game also throws in subtle procedural variations, keeping each run fresh without becoming unpredictable. While Dome Keeper is not overly complex, its layered mechanics provide surprising depth, rewarding players who carefully plan resource extraction and turret placement. However, Dome Keeper does have some limitations. The gameplay loop, though addictive, can become somewhat repetitive after extended sessions, as the core tasks cycle predictably between mining and defending. Additionally, some players might find the early-game grind a bit slow before the strategic depth and variety fully open up. The learning curve is gentle, but mastering efficient mining and turret synergy requires patience and experimentation. In summary, Dome Keeper is a cleverly designed hybrid that merges tower defense and mining into a satisfying survival strategy game. Its simple controls, charming pixel art, and balanced gameplay loop create an engaging experience that is easy to pick up but hard to master. For players who enjoy managing limited resources under pressure and experimenting with defensive tactics in a unique sci-fi setting, Dome Keeper offers a refreshing and rewarding challenge. It’s a standout indie title that proves how innovative design can breathe new life into familiar genres. Rating: 9/10

When you start playing, you will get better at the game by learning how to play and also buying upgrades which stay with you. They have achieved such a perfect balance between the learning and the upgrading that you will quickly become super addicted and you'll have a crazy amount of fun...and you will keep on playing and starting a new run after new run without getting bored because of the RNG elements. It's a genius combination of factors to produce the most harrowing level of addiction and I can't recommend it enough!

It's a fun game with a very satisfying sound effect for mining and transporting resources. The fighting is a nice counterpart to the mining, and finding relics always gives you hope for a good upgrade. However, some of the challenges (especially Labyrinth) are not great.

Personally I’ve had the most fun with this on steam deck, so my review is my OPINION on playing the game from controller/handheld. This game is really fun, and I think one of the best 2d games for deck right now. It is pretty slow, but never feels like bs unless your playing on hardest difficulty (just get good) anyway, it has unlocks and shit like that. The relics add almost a roguelike aspect to it, and the run modifiers make more chaotic and unique runs. Those semi-new (I say semi because I haven’t really done em yet) guild challenges also give more of a unique experience. In all, it’s really cool to see how this game grew in the time since I started. If your fine with a bit of repetition and stuff then this is a great game

I haven't enjoyed such a game in a long time. Not only does it have such well thought out gadgets and tools but also the simple yet detail environments have such rich depth. The creatures and effects are very well animated. I like that it really gets you to both enjoy and think about resource planning - choosing what to take and what to leave. I find the Assessor a bit difficult to play with though. I wish there would be a dome keeper 2......coming soon? yes?

I've done a disservice by playing this game since launch and never reviewing it. I am in love with Dome Keeper. The art and music is beautiful, and the sense of discovery has kept me playing for almost 3 years. I cannot recommend this game enough!

I like the mix of mining and tower defense, blends really well and makes for stressful but fun situations. The pixel art is pretty, and the enemy variety is interesting. However, l wish this game had more impactful meta progression because the start of each run can be a slog, but the developer is pretty clear it's not meant to be a roguelite. With the added assignments and prestige mode, there is a lot of replayability and hours in front of you, especially if you like getting all the achievements. It's a cool game, definitely worth your time.

What a great, fun little game. I thoroughly enjoyed my time playing, and as you can see by how many hours I've poured into this, there is something enjoyable here. The balance of having to mine and find your randomly spawned resources while having solid tower-defense was an extremely well-executed combo. -Run variation is incredible -Challenge modes for added difficulty (or less difficulty, for the casual chill mining!) -Multiple towers with different ways of tower defense was so unique -The variance of the planet surfaces and the way everything sounds was just right -And the art of the game... Loved it. That and the great music I also know I haven't played much since they added even more, and there was already plenty then. I look forward to coming back to this game repeatedly and satisfied for as long as I can. Great job devs!

Would really recommend checking this one out - it's really well executed and will keep you entertained for a long time. I expected it to be fun after playing the demo back before it was even called 'Dome Keeper' but the actual finished game massively exceeded expectations. It's hard to describe why it's so worthwhile... I guess it has all the hallmarks of a 'classic' game, it has a lasting impact.

So far played for a couple hours, and I LOVE IT. I often have some rough moments where I struggle because I am not used to wave defense games, but without those moments, the game would not have any tension. At the same time I also have had moments of feeling overpowered and almost instantly dealing with a wave. I really hope they release a multiplayer mode for the game as I would love to experience this with friends. I understand that balancing tends to fail though in multiplayer situations.

When I bought this game I said to myself "Why do I need I dome? I'm totally going to sell this on Facebook Marketplace for like $5 or a cool hat". But then when I saw the dome...? I said "Ya know what? I'm not selling this dome. I'm going to keep it." In the past I never would've thought of myself as a dome keeper, but here we are I guess. Also the game is good.

Visually simple, but mechanically engaging and immersive experience. It doesn't have tons of content - you can unlock every game mechanic in ~ 8 hours - but what it does have is super satisfying to play. Proof that more is not always better when it comes to making a fun game.

It's slow, it's boring, the combat and mining aspects are annoying. I finished a game and don't want to jump back in for another It feels like a game that was just pumped out in a week

Not bad exactly, but *angrily* user-unfriendly. There's no map, for starters, so good luck pausing to go do something else and trying to find anything. The weapons are intentionally annoying to use. This is definitely a case of the developer assuming that hard=good just because a lot of hard games are good. They add extra "difficulty" that just gets in the way rather than adding a fun challenge.

A very cathartic experience. If you are old enough to remember the flash game "Motherload", this is a fleshed out experience of that but with TD-like combat. Dig deep mines for minerals and use these minerals to upgrade your stuff. Kill the innocent aliens because they want to stop you from destroying their homes and revenging the constant mushing of brethren. Put on something you like listening to, and start chipping away the rocks. The hours will melt away.
