Re-tried this on 2025; tl;dr, get it on sale or get it if you really really have nothing else to play or love this niche, even the hunter and fishing games have more engagement than this game. Honestly lots of potential simulating all the fishing modes as well as getting to travel on board ships but the devs are small in size and have already moved on to "Ships at Sea" their newer game So most of the jank and bugs are not going to be fixed. Biggest peeve I have for this is the speed of ships and distance of points. Although it is a simulator of sorts, it is still a game and having large pockets of empty time (around 10-30 mins on slower ships) with nothing to do is not exactly my idea of fun. There should always be something to keep the player engrossed and "awake" in the game around 5-10mins each time and even with truck simulator, traffic is the one that keeps you on your toes. With this game, it is literally open empty seas with nothing to dodge or traverse with skill other than ports. There is also no time speed up or fast travel so it really drags your time in the game. I already worked with boats and ships before and love the simulator experience but not 30minutes of literal nothingness.

This is a great game with some (minor in my opinion) bugs. My review might seem a bit negative but I'm going to try to address some of the concerns others have. The controls can be a bit clunky until you get used to them and there are some random glitches, but none of these glitches seem to be persistent if you reload. For instance, I once loaded a save and had my ship fly into the air and come crashing down and take a ton of damage, but when I reloaded the same save everything was fine. Just save periodically. Never had anything major where I had to save constantly (the game seems to autosave when you fast travel to a waypoint or port). The game also has an in-game wiki that it will expect you to consult. There are some tutorials, but these mostly ensure the best result (such as a large amount of fish or lobster or whatever at the place where you do the tutorial. When you're fishing on your own, expect to do research and gather tips. All in all it's a pretty good game, and the positives of the game make suffering the occasional bug worth it. I don't feel like the bugs will be fixed at this point as the developers are a small team and working on another game right now and this game is several years old at this point. I wouldn't call this game a simulator, as things like the ship handling and the fish sonar probably don't work the way they do in real life but you figure out how to do it in game and it works for the sake of the game. Also another tip, if you're new to the game don't start on hard mode. The economy on hard mode is brutal, and will leave you in the dust as soon as tuna season is over. You'll go from making a bunch of money to grinding if you don't know what you're doing. On easy mode the fish are more plentiful and the economy is much better, but since you're going through a learning curve it will still provide a challenge. On hard mode, there are many fish types that are not financially viable unless you have a huge multi-million dollar ship that can haul them in on a large scale quickly. That makes it a lot less fun if you want to learn the different types of fishing early on (of which there are many).

A very niche game, for sure. But it is the best 'commercial fishing simulator' out there right now. Even today, I would recommend this version over the newer "Ships at Sea" title that they are working on. This game is at least 'feature complete'. There are bugs and oddities here and there but you will survive them.

great game once you get used to how to play it. i have only played the standard game however i could imagine that the mods would only make it better and give you a much better game play with different maps. definitely a game that i would give a go if you like fishing and large map games.

The wake of the vessel only works if you limit your FPS to 30! You would think that they'd fix it but yet this has been an issue for YEARS. I bought this game again on PC as i have it on PS4 and it works fine albeit with less performance so i wanted to see it in its real beauty at ultra everything but this just ruins the whole thing. It was a waste of money.

Game is almost unplayable. Controls for movement and speed are wonky at best. UI and actions are poorly done.

The game is ridiculous. I tried several times over the past years and I just cannot control the boat to fix it in the lobster cage prompt circle. The boat would just flow around because of waves and I could barely control it. Can't even start the game at all.

After a while fo playing that game a bug came in so i was un-able to steer port, whenever i press 'A' the rudder locks over to the starboard! Appart from that I love this game, I would playing it for hunderds of hours if not purely for this bug stated above.
