I have completed destiny 6 today, and this is a tough one to review. The game is decent, but I can't recommend it just because of this, and I'll explain why. But, for the sake of being objective, I'll start with the good parts and then go to the bad ones. Good: 1. Graphics. The art style choice is obviously subjective, but everything apart from it is top-notch. The backgrounds, the animations, the cutscenes, the characters - all of it is beautiful and fluid. Every location looks astonishing, the skills appear impactful, every icon and particle looks absolutely amazing. Some specific locations
Sun and Moon
take your breath away. What is shown to your eyes is extremely high quality, especially for a 2D videogame. 2. A lot of unique game mechanics. Echoes, gambits, imprints, auras, summons, the daily telescope and the cursed telescope, spell affinity, weapons and their passives... A lot of things going on, and there is way, WAAAY, more inside. Each element has at least 5 unique mechanics to it, with even more coming from imprints. The Noita-like spell approach isn't loved by everyone, but it has opened up a lot of options for the gameplay to revolve around. There are tons of keywords, some familiar and some not. Truly the best part of the game, no questions. I wish some other games had this much to them. 3. Bosses and enemies. They are unique. You'll remember every single bossfight by "oh no, THAT attack is coming." Then, you'll raise the game difficulty and suddenly every mob has a new attack. Then, you'll reach a certain point of the game and all the bosses will evolve as well. And let me tell you, some of them will make it seem like you're still alive only because they want you to be (for a minute or so). 4. A lot of stuff to track your progress. You can check all your achievements, upgrades, unlocked cutscenes, available skills/auras/etc., all your previous runs, and the DPS of every single thing in them from the main hub. And as for your stats, you can even check your damage in the middle of the run and see all the stats for the current run and for the current room. Good stuff. 5. The game supports local 2-player co-op through Steam! My friend and I had to meddle with all the controls since only one of us has a gamepad, but it was possible nonetheless. And, with all that said, I can't believe that I really can't recommend this title. Let's unravel all the bad stuff: 1. The worst part - the runs. As a classic roguelite, the game is divided into two parts: chilling in the hub upgrading your things and attempting to complete a run. And the runs in this game are exhausting. Not bad, not plain, not broken. Just exhausting. And there's not a better word for it, because the game does NOT respect your time, with one run taking more than 1 hour. The basic rooms are not a threat to you in any way. You just rush through them and collect your rewards, and there is no risk of dying. The normal enemies and traps are almost skippable. At first, you'll only consider the zodiacs (mid-run bosses) a threat, but then you'll become accustomed to them. After that, the void bosses will become a threat, but only for a short period. Then, after 1 or 2 successful runs, you'll see that only the last boss is a threat to you. Do you know why that's bad? Because you'll just tolerate an hour of the same repetitive things only to learn again that the last boss is on a completely different scale. You'll create a build that seems powerful to you, destroy every optional and non-optional boss, and then the last one will obliterate you, ESPECIALLY on Destiny 6. 2. Quality of the main mechanics. Yes, I've mentioned the quantity of the game mechanics as a strength of the it, but their quality is a different question to ask. There are just too many things to be balanced properly. 90% of the time I felt like my build was working perfectly, but the stats were showing that my main DPS came from a random Astral Aura side effect that I picked up in the first location. In the beginning of my playthrough I felt overwhelmed by the sheer amount of stuff to use in the game. In the middle of it, I was overcomplicating things by using tons of things that seemed like they should've worked together, but they didn't. And in the end... Well, I almost felt like I was just picking up everything with the same icons or colors and had the same chances of winning. And it's because nothing in this game changes what you do in combat: you just spam attacks and skills when there's enough mana. Whatever you select as your source of the DPS, you just do the same spam, since as that one other negative review mentioned - it's all just damage spam with different animations. As for the "larger" scale of balance, you can make a ton of builds, but even if you have 4 max-affinity skills with the same element and all the auras for them, you can still have a hard time because the build you've chosen is just too weak in general. 3. Writing. I'll be honest - it feels like they left all the placeholders for the lines. It's the most basic, plain, repetitive, boring, and unoriginal writing I've seen in a game. The characters are one-sided and stereotypical; you can literally predict what they'll say before they open their mouths. Honestly, if I hear Octave say the word MOTHER one more time, I'm gonna crash out. The side characters are supposed to remind you of Hades and kind of react to what you accomplish, but it doesn't work. I just witnessed the true ending and this dude is like "Oh, you've defeated Taurus!? I can't believe it!" Yeah, I did that 5 runs ago. I'm pretty sure even AI would be able to write something better. 4. UI/UX. Yes, the co-op is here, but playing it sometimes feels horrible. The UI is overloaded with an insane amount of elements on top of other elements. It's all made with gamepad controls in mind, but sometimes its like getting out of a maze. It's very easy to mix it up when one button is responsible for skipping cutscenes, confirming equipping things, and healing. You'll get used to it, but only after a portion of tilting mistakes. Some effects are also worded poorly and are hard to understand from the way they are phrased. I also want to mention that there's a significant amount of UI bugs. Countless times I've seen windows remain on the screen after the element they belonged to got out of focus. Some projectiles were flickering on the screen and flying from side to side instead of disappearing (e.g., heal/mana orbs and Yamat ult/attacks for some reason). The "Free" price was displayed under empty pedestals in the bar a couple of times. And some text was also wrong ("Equipar" instead of "Equip" when choosing imprints in Andromeda Bar). BTW, apart from the UI bugs, some potions in the bar gave me incorrect effects, but it only happened once, so I don’t know what caused it. So, the conclusion. I'd say it's slightly better than an average mid release. It's like a 6/10, but I can't recommend this game because it doesn't respect its players and their time. It doesn't feel polished, and some of the problems are rooted in the game design decisions. I don't know, playing it felt like wasting hundreds of hours in Dota/LoL/Destiny and all that, and then sitting with a bitter aftertaste wondering "Why did I play it? It was not even that fun..."

This is a fantastic game - a gift that keeps on giving throughout my 30 hours with it so far. To be honest I was fairly underwhelmed when I first started it. Cartoonish character, trivial platforming, one-button combat mechanics, fairly standard progression for a rogue-lite... But what sets this game apart is that it quickly starts introducing new stuff and never stops - spells, auras, enchantments, rewarding challenges, global run modifiers, meta-progression, upgrades, new characters, new aspects for weapons, then another whole new layer of meta-progression, then turns out characters can equip multiple weapons and switch between them in combat, you get summons, actually difficult (and optional) platforming challenges, skill-based mini-games, well-written story, interesting bosses (who fight you despite secretly sympathising you), new dialogues every time you complete a run, and apparently there is still more stuff to unlock, as I often pass an ominous portal that seem to do nothing for now :) Also I want to call out two things this game does great. First - is how much thought and agency you have when making your build - it is never just a random set of buffs you happened to pick up. There are even special rooms that allow you to synthesise THE EXACT thing you need for your build. The second one is how the game ramps up difficulty so far. Instead of common beefing up enemies and increasing damage, it gives enemies new moves, introduces unique challengers mid-run, opens secret mini-boss chambers for an extra risk/reward - I can't believe how fresh it still feels after all my time with it.

Unique art style meets rewarding gameplay. There are a ton of spells and combinations to try out and most of them feel rewarding to play and to master. Each character comes with 4 different weapons so every player should find a playstyle that suits them. Since you can choose your own difficulty there is pretty much no limit to how hard (or easy) you want the game to be.

It's a very fun game. One of the better action rogue-likes around with a good spread of characters and a plethora of things to unlock. The endgame isn't half bad, and i quite like the way the bosses gain new moves once you reach a minimum level of difficulty. The one thing i will say is that after about 50 hours, the runs start to get boring and repetitive, and while harder difficulty helps, i find it hard to find the motivation to play after unlocking everything that felt meaningful or worth it. I do still have some weapons, passives, meta progression, and 100% the game to chase, and once i'm no longer burned out on the game i can definitely see myself coming back to this game. 10/10 would recommend over Dragon Age: Veil Guard.

The game is really boring. Level design is boring. Each level is either a simple room with spawning enemies or uninteresting, basic platforming with a couple of enemy-filled rooms. Enemies are boring. They’re damage sponges that rarely attack. I need to spam attacks for an eternity before an enemy attacks me even once, then spend another eternity mashing buttons to kill it. The spell system is boring. You have a few spells used in a fixed order. The problem is that during combat, you don’t really check what the next spell is, and they vary wildly in range, some even teleport you across the screen. This forces you to stick to similar range spells. You could call this a skill issue, but the spell damage is so low I don’t bother interacting with the system at all. Combat is boring. Your character auto-lunges toward enemies when attacking near them. I guess if the game is "controller focused", you just need to add auto-aim of some kind, right? Like the whole point of a slasher is to attack the enemies the right way, but the game decides it will play itself instead of you. Writing is boring. All the characters are plain one-sided stereotypes. The dialogue is so generic it feels they forgot to remove placeholders. Also, I’m sick of games with "native" linux support that just don’t work on linux. Is it so hard to test your linux build before release? The only way to play it is via proton, and even then it has some issues.

Game is a blast ! I side scroller/platformer roguelike with multiple characters to play, A lot of choices to make as of spells, gambits (kinda like gems), imbuements to put in spells, stats to choose from and many more. You can also unlock up to 4 weapons per characters and can swap between 2 during a run. They weapons also has passives you can unlock for them that makes them WAY stronger. You can also increase run difficulty everytime. Also if you have a friend to play this with, the remote play doesnt have delay anymore... me and friend are having so much fun with this. Hope they keep giving us updates and DLCs for more characters of more maps and enemies !

The start is quite slow and, to be honest, kinda weak but boy does this game get addictive! Once you start acquiring new characters and spells the game opens up a lot, you start the game with like less than 10% of what you can actually do and have to unlock quite a bit more than I expected before you are "ready". I think that if the tutorial phase was shortened the game would have only gained from it, though once that part is over the game is well worth your time and money, you just need to "grit your teeth" (it's not that bad, only in comparison to what comes after) cause I assure you it is worth it. I admit I don't know if the tutorial phase is even longer than I experienced cause I managed to get far, like too far in my fourth or fifth run cause a certain affinity is particularly strong, so much so that I advise to experiment on your own and consider it a spoiler cause it is reliable enough that the game might get boring if taken consistently [spoilers] You were warned

Poison, that DPS is insane from the start and it only gets crazier the further you go in the game
Something that I did really dislike is the presence of "advertisement" in the game, sure it not actual ADs but having the DLC character right in the middle, having the DLC-only worlds there just greyed out and with "DLC needed" under them feels kinda bad, on the flip side the DLC adds a lot of really good stuff and is worth considering especially if on sale, possibly taken with the game and Yamat in a big bundle to save the most money possible. Other than that the game has:

fun and colorful voiceacted Characters, and this is talking both about the main playable characters and NPCs (excluding the male melee character, the trope of "stupid musclehead man that thinks only about fighting and unable to hold a conversation" is not only overdone but was always boring and especially here it does a great disservice to the character's story)
great music, the OST is really good and pleasant to listen to while going through rooms but also great in getting serious when you get to optional (and obviously the non-optional) Bossfights
great designs and very good looking visuals (though you might need to tweak FX opacity since as you get deeper you are gonna have 10 effects going on with the use of a single spell, and you have 4 + signature move so...) plus quite cool looking anime-style cinematics
an astounding number of variables to tweak to both power up and ramp up difficulty (initially slowly and then all at once for those masochistic enough to go from
lv6 to 54
asap)
some nice personalization both in the practical and aesthetic department that makes runs potentially even more diverse unless you get stuck on your favourite combos, but that is kinda on you
Really recommended if you like the genre once you get past the start but potentially a good way to get into the genre because of said start.

Art is very good, some of the basic equipable skills can get a bit boring but the character specific ones are always entertaining to use. There's also a bit too much to do in the hub, it can be a bit hard to follow narratives, but the character interactions do make up for this so it evens out. A very well made game

This game is amazing. A must play. It plays incredible, its fast and fluid, colorful and sounds great. Also the devs are great, constantly updating the game (they even add awesome stuff like jp dub!) and are transparent with the information. I cannot recommend this game enough, please give it a try, the devs deserve your time!

have good 120+ hours on this game, don't know why this game is so underappreciated. It deserves more attention!!!!! The build quality is high with different auras to play around with, as well as different imprints/gambits. Boss fights are especially fun, very satisfying when dodging a series of attack The downside of this game is obvious though, we appreciate local coop support but it's frustrating that you can't view spell or gambit descriptions simultaneously...you gotta find something else to do while the other player is contemplating on their build choices... the hit feedback can be a bit better as well Overall, it is a solid 9/10, worth of time and money, please check it out, make this game popular :p The more support it gets, the better it can become!!!

Cons Too much visual clutter in boss rooms (high destiny) levels. The 'story' is just meaningless statements and a waste of everyone's time. Pros Unforgiving game that demands and rewards perfection (not getting hit). Kiran has a signature skill can negate damage Will turn you in a masochist

Astral Ascent is a fine rogue lite with a bunch of flaws. I had fun, but AA is nowhere close to the really good representatives of the genre. Overall the game is very easy, after my first two failed runs I beat the game and successfully completed the next 5 runs easily with different chars and builds before losing interest. tl;dr: If you are a big fan of the genre and are done playing Hades, Deadcells etc then feel free to give it a go. If you haven't played those two, don't bother with Astral Ascent, they are both better in every single aspect, gameplay, replayability, progression, graphics, story... The good: The controls are tight, there is a huge variety between weapons and spells and you always feel you progress between runs. Big props also on having all dialogue voiced, really cool! The bad: There is one fundamental flaw to the game, it has _too much_. Too much of everything. First, the visuals. As many other reviewers pointed out, visuals are extreeeeemely cluttered very fast. Many many capabilities spawn helpers or adds which in turn spawn projectiles. Projectiles tend to be flashy. So it becomes very hard to actually see what the hell is going on. Secondly, the mechanics. It's like the devs did a brainstorming on different options for mechanics and instead of focusing on one and really fleshing it out and balancing it well they just implemented _everything_. There is sooooo much going on with so many variants, spells, weapons, gambits, auras, echos, upgrades that it becomes impossible to get a real grip on synergies. You end up stacking stuff that seems like it kinda, sorta should pop off, which works most of the time because the game is rather easy. Third, the spells themselves. You have 4 spell slots that you must cast in order. That means you never really specialise on a spell for a given playstyle, like different weapons in dead cells for example, but you just randomly hit the button and hope whatever spell you cast makes sense in the given situation.
Positives:
🎨 Gorgeous art style ⚔️ Fluid combat and movement 📈 Satisfying meta-progression 😂 Funny characters
Negatives:
🔁 Gets repetitive pretty quickly. You go through the same four biomes in the same order, and you only reach the true ending after your sixth successful run. I dropped it after the fifth and just watched the final cutscene on YouTube—which I never do with games—but after 22 hours, I couldn't go through it all again. 🌀 Spells and upgrades aren’t really important. That’s what made me stop. Each run's progression just boils down to becoming as powerful as possible and stacking HP to survive longer. It doesn’t really matter which spell you choose—you just spam them. Maybe it becomes more meaningful later on as the difficulty increases, but as I said, I never made it that far. 📖 The writing and story are pretty weak and basic. ⚠️ Convoluted UI. Even though each spell has its own icon, I still can’t distinguish one from another—even after 22 hours of playing.
Overall:
I recommend it. It's a good game. Especially if you're into (al least one of following):

Action-roguelites
Meta-progression
Beautiful art styles
Anime with epic fight scenes
There's something clunky with the fact that you have to queue up your ability/skill in a list of among 3 other abilities. Make it very sluggish to cycle through to an ability you actually want to use. Looks and feel wise, it similar to dead cells (pretty pixel art), just clunkier, which interrupts the flow of the game.

This Game can gonna be the best Rouglike after Dead Cells. it has so much potential for variation Builds endless combos. I was searching for new Rouglike game on Steam since I had Dead Cells it was my Number 1 Rouglike cuz of all weapons and combinations the reason for me to replayable endless of times for me. I have alot fo Rouglike Games but all of them have few Skills like 20-30 what makes for me not enjoable and gets borring after 3-5 hours. but this game hooked me u have 5 classes, all with 20-30 Spells and 1 elementry tree spells like 30-40, each classes can use all spells from diffrent classes, each spell here is getting like ornamnets Runes on it and it changes whole spell or give it element effects, so u have tousend of Variations to build and play. Gameplay is close to Dead Cell what makes fun and has alot more Story like in Hades 2. here u gonna fight all Zodiac Signs. overall I would say buy it its totally worth it, I got it in sale for 15 bucks, u will get hook and play for endless Hours cuz ur runs are always diffrent cuz of the variation of Spells. its in erly Access and it might get more expensive when it has more content. btw: since I had like most of the Rouglikes on Steam like 30 Rouglikes Games, I asked ChatGPT wich Game has alot of Skills,Variations, passive, skilltree, classes, passive, auras etc. and ist simmilar good as Dead Cells it showed me Astral Ascent. when I saw the screenshots and videos I was sceptical its gonna be the next Rouglike game thats get borring after 10hours but I was wrong.
