Has this game probably given me carpal tunnel? Yes! Is it 100% worth it and is this one of my favorite rhythm games of all time? Also, yes! Does it have bagels? Sadly not.

A Dance of Fire and Ice is a minimalist yet intensely challenging rhythm game developed by 7th Beat Games that proves you don’t need flashy graphics or complex controls to deliver a deeply engaging experience. The game’s premise is simple: guide two orbiting planets—a fiery red and an icy blue—along a twisting, ever-changing path, keeping perfect timing to the beat. But simplicity here is deceptive; the game demands razor-sharp focus, impeccable rhythm, and split-second timing, creating an addictive loop that’s both frustrating and rewarding. What makes A Dance of Fire and Ice stand out is its elegant design and the way it turns pure timing into a form of art. Unlike typical rhythm games that rely on visual cues or multiple button presses, this game requires you to press a single button in perfect sync as the planets dance along geometric patterns. The increasing complexity of the paths and beats transforms each level into a precise test of hand-eye coordination and rhythm memory, pushing players into a trance-like state where flow and focus reign supreme. The visuals are minimalist but striking—clean lines, stark color contrasts, and fluid animations create an abstract but hypnotic world that perfectly complements the music-driven gameplay. Each level introduces new patterns and rhythms, often building tension with sudden changes in tempo or direction that keep players on their toes. The soundtrack itself is carefully crafted, with electronic beats and melodies that feel both futuristic and timeless, perfectly syncing with the gameplay’s pulse. While A Dance of Fire and Ice can be unforgiving—some levels require dozens of attempts to master—it never feels unfair. Instead, it cultivates a rewarding sense of accomplishment when you finally nail a difficult sequence. Its short bursts of play make it ideal for quick sessions, yet its high skill ceiling offers plenty of depth for rhythm game enthusiasts looking for a serious challenge. In conclusion, A Dance of Fire and Ice is a brilliant, minimalist rhythm game that turns a simple concept into a captivating and demanding experience. It’s perfect for players who appreciate precision, flow, and musicality, offering a unique blend of challenge and beauty that lingers long after the music stops. Whether you’re a rhythm game veteran or a newcomer seeking a fresh test of timing, this game’s hypnotic dance is worth joining. Rating: 9/10

The game is great. I think the simplicity of a "one-button rhythm game" really sells it for me. I really enjoy playing the difficult custom maps you can try. Although, every so often my inputs don't register to the game, causing me to miss when I really haven't. I thought I could escape the weird glitch when transitioning from mobile to PC, but alas... (please fix this, it's infuriating and discouraging when I'm playing hard-difficulty maps and suddenly miss because the game wouldn't detect my input)

For 5 bucks you really don't lose out on anything for checking it out, but it really just isn't for me. I think it's mostly due to the fact that failure immediately kills and resets you. It's obnoxious to sit through all the dry parts to the song only to ram your head into a brick wall and die 200 times. The only guess I can levy as to why it grates on me here and not in something like Geometry Dash is that having to constantly be tapping on time emphasizes the monotony of the less intense parts. In any case, between that and the lackluster song selection, it just hasn't grabbed me despite being near finished with all the standard levels.

Unique rhythm game, but also the most torturing rhythm game for me. The near-mandatory full combo requirement makes it unfriendly to casul players. Probably only suitable for truly hardcore gamers.

A very annoying but catchy rhythm game (As most rhythm games are). I still like it though. And I like the fact that (As far as I know), all the songs are entirely original. The final challenge was, well. A lie. And far more annoying than the other songs before it, but it feels so rewarding to finally complete it. Overall (So far as of finishing all the songs up to The Final Challenge), I'd give it around a 7-8/10, probably closer to 8 than 7.

i'm not sure why, but the game has gotten horribly un-optimized since i last played. i can't find anything online regarding it and i have no idea what could be causing it. i love this game so much but i find it enfuriating when i'm in the middle of a hard pattern and the game stutters for no reason, costing me my entire run.

Bottom line upfront: I don't recommend adofai unless you want a very curated short rhythm game experience. For those who want a "strict" rhythm game go lurk in the adofai custom level community if that's what you want to do, buy it. If not do something else. 8 days ago I started playing this game, 47.3 hours later, all base game worlds except xi,mo and xt completed, and the DLC completed. The good: Mechanics The base game is fun, and if you play on perfects only or pure perfects only even the easy levels can be challenging to a rhythm game enjoyer. Neo cosmos Honestly Neo cosmos was fun, although EX-T4 could have been harder, and T5 could use an EX. Neo cosmos feels like a breathe of fresh air worth the money if you want more official content. Mods The game has extensive mod support, with many mods adding basic conviences the developers should add. Customs Adofai appears to rely heavily on customs levels, by day 5 of playing there was no real smooth progression of content without playing customs, and I would imagine there's nothing to do without customs 50-70hours in. Players have formed TUF and adofaigg rating scales to assess the difficulty of maps, these communities have also made improvement guides, progression guides, and a series of mods to improve the competitive viability of the game. As such adofai is a game made and built by the community at this point. The bad: optimisation issues Arguably for the nature of game it is, adofai runs relatively poorly. On my laptop with integrated graphics it's chugs, on a 6800xt it's roughly 478fps. for some that's fine others it's not. Visual desync, audio desync, pressing before respawning turns off audio or stops the visuals from loading, crashing lots and lots of crashing (base game without mods) Menus suck The game has a serious UI/UX problem, the menu either forces you to commute to all levels or memorise key binds to traverse a menu. Why? Personally that's a big fault I hope you like wikis buddy In some ways adofai has a communication problem, we know what order world 1 to 12 are, what about Xtra island or musedash island or crown ... Etc why are some community levels tech and others classic, what is gem difficulty scaling off and how does it compare to base game content. Answers you have to google to know. The mixed: Judgements For this next section you have to understand that in a rhythm game you have to 'do actions' to the beat, How many milliseconds you have to do something to the beat is called a judgement. Adofai is unique in this regard as the judgements are dynamic, different parts of a world/level/map have different judgements with faster parts of the track requiring higher accuracy. Where it gets weird is the judgement limiter setting or customs accuracy setting. Personally this is mixed. Hitsounds Given how rhythm games as a genre rely on the player doing things as precisely as possible most games provide an auditory way to assess accuracy. once again adofai stands out as hitsounds, sounds that indicate when you hit, instead indicate when you should hit. Making them only useful for understanding the rhythm in complex segments of the track. Conclusion: I feel like recommending adofai is hard to do, the game wants a very specific player, most other people will get frustrated or run out of stuff to do. Without considering price it has very little content base game, I'm bad at this genre, if it took me 47hrs many can do it in 20 or even less.

Amazing game, seems difficult at first but becomes easier as you keep trying. Level balancing is very good, and the graphics are even better. The decoration on some of the levels blew me away. Definitely recommend if you like fast-paced rhythm games, or have never played one before and this is your first one :D If you're truly ambitious, then the DLC is great too, I would call it a worthy purchase, with many new mechanics to mess with. Anyway, definitely play if you haven't, hope this helps anybody on the fringe :3

A really fun rhythm game with a lot of different mechanics and good controls, fun levels that allow for complex rhythms and fun challenges. Some of the DLC mechanics are finicky and feel unfinished, and some of the songs feel built around the levels, instead of the other way around, so those levels don't really flow. Overall, though, a good rhythm game with a lot of potential. (7/10)

Well it's been certainly an experience and after 140+ hours finally did everything I wanted to do so was it hard? Definitely but enjoyed clearing the levels. I recommend new players to play with two fingers from day one and try not to let your life be consumed by this game since it's actually so addicting. Though yeah 10/10.

Not very fun. For starters i think its very boring for a rythm game to have 1 input. It really limits how fun it is. 2nd off There aren't many good songs, Or at least not the ones i wanted. I can definitely see why people like this game, But its just not for me.

Really unqiue rhythm game that I have dedicated my life to apparently. Basically, Geometry Dash but if it was an actual rhythm game. 9.5/10 (Due to music choices needing to be approved, which isnt 7th Beat Games' fault but still kinda sucks, and also Due to the community, just like geometry dash, choosing Badass decoration over actual fun gameplay)
