What you are about to do has not been approved by the Vatican. As a young priest, struggle against demons, insane cultists, and your own weakening faith in this pixel horror game inspired by the era of classic 8-bit gaming and the "Satanic Scare" of the 1980s.

With the reviews being what they are, I was expecting something pretty good. What I got was an incredibly slow walking simulator that occasionally requires you to press space bar in the general direction of something to scare it off with a cross or to interact with the environment. The gameplay on chapter one was so tedious that I can't even fathom playing through two additional sets, which I've heard are worse than the first. I understand the story in this game is quite good but I cannot force myself through the equivalent of trudging through mud just to understand it. The trailers on the store page consist of 90% cutscene animation (which, to be fair, is very unique. The rotoscoping and retro sounds work very well for what this game is trying to be) as opposed to actual gameplay. In the first trailer, they show off a turbo setting that increases your speed by TIMES FOUR, which looks like what maybe a default sprinting speed should be. That should give you an idea of how slow this game is. Checkpoints are placed in odd spots. It's like the devs were trying to mimic a soulslike walk of shame back to an arena with them. Boss fights get annoying after your 8th attempt because you either couldn't aim your cross at the odd diagonal angle the enemy was coming from, the enemy you're fighting suddenly decided it has a new move and expected you to know that without prior warning, or your character gets hit on some unholy hitbox that must've been summoned by the Devil himself. On top of that, you retain your normal speed in these boss fights, and some entities just move too quickly for your priest to wobble his way out of danger or to even turn around and flash his cross at them. And to top it all off, I was at least expecting some decent scares in a horror game as appraised as this. Maybe rotoscoping looks more funny than scary to me, but every "jumpscare" looks more like an 8-bit Cyriak animation accompanied by an old school tts voice repeating one syllable over and over than an actual spirit coming after you. Mortis is funny. If you really want to experience what an unpolished Atari game was like in the modern day, this does the job wonderfully.

Where to begin with a game like FAITH? This game is truly a terrifying experience, the sound of SAM mechanically talking into your ear as you're terrified a demon will pop out any minute and kill you in the horrifyingly fluid rotoscoped animations. It is a one of a kind experience and so simple yet so horrifying I can't simply put into words, but the story is just as every bit puzzling horrific and tragic. A story that talks about guilt, tragedy,
the powers of cults, and of a man trying to find redemption in himself when his faith can't help him.
It is a monarch to horror games and shows not every one has to be a survival horror game, sometimes you don't need elaborate scary jump scares and high quality graphics, sometimes you just need ominous synth and Atari pixels accompanied by Spanish sayings. FAITH is truly in a sense the greatest spiritual game adaptation, and probably only game adaptation, of the Exorcism and I can appreciate that truly. So what are you waiting for? Buy the game!

Cool setting and story but the gameplay is absolute shite, only thing that would drag on more than this is a life sentence

One of those games you have more fun watching someone else play on Youtube rather than yourself. It's not a bad game per se, it simply didn't click for me. I, however, can absolutely praise the amount of work put into this one. Art and sound design are top notch, New Blood sure got an eye for indie talent. The gameplay on the other hand is a little bit *too* frustrating to enjoy. Will definitely give it another shot some time in the future I think.

I mean it's really fun but
in chapter 3 there's a demon that comes out of nowhere that teleports you to nearly-impossible section where you have to go through seals at a near perfect timing or else you just die and get sent to the last save, which is usually the second thing that you get before completing the MOLOCH puzzle.
Minimal in graphics and controls, displays more depth in execution. Though it's literally in the atari style, there's this serious foreboding undertone throughout the whole game. Somehow, the simple sprites carry substantial amounts of weight and emotion. Also, it somehow had one of the hardest challenge achievements I've ever experienced. Definitely a must for those who enjoy horror.

BANGER. Just beat all three chapters getting every ending and it was great! Despite its crude graphics, it can be scary as hell when it wants. The unique style offers for a horror experience that you just can't get anywhere else. The story is one of those where you'll be watching youtube videos all night to piece it together if you want to understand anything, but I would not count that as a detractor. Gameplay is simplistic and somewhat clunky, but the game uses it as a tool to create extra tension in parts (though it can get annoying). I adore the spooky sound design too. It reminds me of an 80s scary movie that still manages to hold up somehow. If Faith gets anything right, it's the style. There are some complaints to be had about how short it is, but if you strive to see all endings and secrets (which you totally should) you could end up getting 9 or so hours out of it. $15 may be a LITTLE steep for that runtime, so maybe get it on sale if you're not too sure. But if it seems cool to you, pick it up and you're likely to have a couple evenings of fun scares. All around the game is probably an 8-8.5/10 I thought it was a great time. People saying it's the scariest game they've ever played are definitely weenies tho.

An excellent example of how the "less is more" approach works so well with horror games. Keeps it simple and let the player's imagination do most of the work. Great use of the low fidelity aesthetic creates an oppressive atmosphere. It's an unnerving experience that I would highly recommend.

This game is a masterpiece I would highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of Horror. The 8bit/Atari graphics may put some players off but with a perfect story and a masterfully done soundscape I'd bet after playing this you too will find a bunch of pixels scary too 10/10 would recommend to anyone!

Another absolute banger by New Blood. Even though it's very simple in its controls this is still the best horror game I have ever played. Won't dive into specifics here as I think you should go into this as blind as possible. No complaints at all. 10/10 Gary loves you.

Its a little clunky at times, but you can really tell that the development team has quite the passion for making games. Highly recommend.

...I tried this game because I heard it was the "only good religious-based video game" & I'm sorry...but-...I sort of have a grudge against games with no replay-ability, nothing to truly KEEP you once you finished, a story that is admittedly cool- but not amazing. The game-play is rather middle of the road. I would say that despite my issues, it is a GOOD game, I just realize it isn't the type for me, even regarding the 'horror' genre. The cutscenes of roto-scoping are very appealing & interesting by the way. I'll try it again some day, but unless you're very religious or REALLY find the art style pleasuring, I would make sure to consider before purchasing. Not a bad game, just not mine. (Yes I am an Agnostic-Atheist Nihilist so maybe I am biased, but even then...like...no-...this was just...'fine.')

This game's art and sound design is excellent, but that is where my compliments end. The gameplay is very rough, and the story, while interesting in premise, was mainly boring in execution. As you progress through all three chapters, the gameplay and story increasingly become more complex, but I feel it also lost its tightness. Many of the puzzles and bosses felt boring. They are either complete pushovers or tedious trial and error. There was rarely a satisfying in-between. The writing felt mediocre; it was never enough to get me attached to the story and characters. It felt like it handed out information without real reason to care. It's a real shame because I feel that, with the right hands, the story could have been executed amazingly. I dropped the game with, I imagine, only a third left of the final chapter. The gameplay and story were dragging so hard for me that I did not care to finish the game. Great visuals and sound, very dry, and gameplay and story.

Im not quite sure what to think of this game, on one hand its retro style andthe way it it built, from what i saw, looks very cool. On the other hand, already in chapter one, if you don't know how to handle the two grey demons, who have intervalls in wich they move and stand still, however always the opposite between, it's really confusing. I'm sure, this game is very good if you have great reflexes and time to figure it out.

MORTIS What a phenomenal game series and I love the additional content for the full collection. It's a comprehensive story no matter what happens, the graphics are simple but effective, and the gameplay is so darn fun especially in more challenging runs. Buy this game is my recommendation.

FAITH: The Unholy Trinity Feels like a cursed flip note game in the best way possible. The cut scenes remind me of the animated shorts. I would see on the Nintendo DS flip note app. I loved the cutscenes so much that at a certain point the cutscenes felt like rewards for playing the game. A very immersive pixel art game with amazing art style. This game oozes so much care from its creators and had so much soul throughout.

Was apprehensive about this game at first due to the name, and thought it might be blasphemous, but after a lore breakdown video on YT and a playthrough, it actually has an amazing story with good winning out over evil in the end. I strongly recommend.
