Limbo is a haunting journey through a monochrome world where every shadow seems to whisper secrets, and every step feels like a descent deeper into the unknown. From the moment you awaken in a dark forest, the game offers no hand-holding—no dialogue, no instructions, just the eerie soundscape and the boy's silhouette against the bleak backdrop. It's a minimalist approach that speaks volumes, drawing players into its enigmatic narrative . The gameplay is a blend of platforming and puzzle-solving, with each section introducing new mechanics that challenge your perception and timing. The puzzles are cleverly designed, often requiring a mix of logic and experimentation. While some players have noted a shift towards trial-and-error in the latter half, the sense of accomplishment upon solving them is undeniable . Visually, Limbo is a masterpiece. The black-and-white art style, combined with subtle animations and ambient lighting, creates an atmosphere that's both beautiful and unsettling. It's a world where danger lurks in every corner, and the line between life and death is blurred. The sparse sound design, punctuated by moments of silence and sudden noises, amplifies the tension, making every encounter feel significant . However, the game's brevity—lasting around 3 to 4 hours—might leave some yearning for more. Yet, this concise experience ensures that every moment is impactful, and the story's ambiguity invites players to interpret its meaning long after the screen fades to black . In essence, Limbo is more than just a game; it's an experience that lingers, prompting reflection on its themes of innocence, death, and the unknown. For those seeking a game that challenges both the mind and the emotions, Limbo stands as a testament to the power of minimalist storytelling in gaming.

This game has literally zero dialogue and zero cutscenes but somehow I still felt bad for the boy at the end. It’s kinda heartbreaking to watch. And that alone shows how good the game is. The only downside is that it’s really short. You can finish it in roughly 2 to 3 hours. Other than that the levels are fun and I had a good time solving the puzzles. Overall it’s a solid 8/10 for me.

What a fantastic, emotional journey. Having just recently completed the game and having acquired all of the achievements, I have to say that Limbo was worth every moment that I spent with it, and I found myself completely invested in the highly artistic and symbolic story, which essentially
tells of a boy who is traversing his own self-inflicted purgatory to deal with his "unfinished business" regarding the tragedy of his sister before he can accept her forgiveness and enter the peace of the afterlife.
At least, that's what I think the game is about. I know that many have strongly theorized about what this game is trying to portray over the many years since its release, and their theories are just as valid, but I truly believe what I stated above is what's really going on here, and it would take a whole lot of text for me to explain why and I won't do that here. Suffice it to say, Limbo was amazing, and I highly recommend this gem for those who want to play something that will both challenge your platforming skills and the way you think and feel as you play. This isn't just a game, it's an emotional journey as I've already said. Highly recommend that you play with headphones and in the dark to really experience the ambiance. Thanks for reading. ^.^

This isn't a bad game by any means, but I found it just boring. Similarly to INSIDE, another PLAYDEAD game, the silent narrative approach just doesn't really work for me. INSIDE was at least more engaging and an interesting story. With LIMBO, I just was hoping it would end. Puzzles were fine, gameplay was meh, just not for me.

I got this game for ninety nine cents and if I got it for anymore I would have asked for a refund. Let's start off with the things that I like about the game. The music is pretty good and the general esthetics are amazing! I'm relatively neutral towards the physics. It was only janky for a few sections for me which wouldn't be as much of a deal if the sections that it was messed up in weren't puzzles that required interacting with the physics. The puzzles range from to "move a box" to "you know, the path of pain from Hollow Knight isn't so bad." And if I am genuinely considering doing the path of pain again while trying to attempt to solve a puzzle then you've made a bad puzzle. Some of the issues were, I admit user error but a lot of them consist with poorly telegraphed mechanics and switching up how certain mechanics work from puzzle to puzzle. For example: one of the puzzles after entering up into the new area you need to go left (Which you have to go pretty out of your way to do) to do a seemingly optional puzzle, Then continue on to the main puzzle only to realize halfway through that you needed to solve that optional puzzle at the very beginning to make the required puzzle solvable. There are also no indications that you need to go left in the first place, even if you get to the halfway point and have already failed the puzzle. On top of all of that, the ending is left very up to interpretation and in my opinion is very unsatisfying and makes little to no sense. Below will be spoilers for the rest of the game. At the very end of the game, you run into a another person that you've only seen one other time. Your character slowly approaches them and they stop what they're doing. And then the credits role. At the end of the credits, you can see a screen where it's the same area that you were in but slightly more dilapidated with flies hovering around where you two were. Needless to say, after going through a poorly telegraphed puzzles and slightly broken physics just to get that as an ending made me question why I spent two hours playing the game.

The game itself is fine. The ambience, background, atmosphere - good. BUT it feels like there was no blackbox testing whatsoever! First of all, there is a freeze glitch in the final scene, which doesnt allow to finish the game AT ALL. And its a global issue with NVIDIA, that can be fixed only after trying 4 different ways of changing video settings of the game. Oh, and yeah, there is NO UI for those settings, you should either use NVIDIA Control Panel, or text config file in the game folder. Its not obvious, its not user-friendly, and its definitely an issue taht could be found by devs themselves, if only they've tested it OR added settings UI (its 4 freaking buttons, how hard can it be...). Also, there is a secret level.... Which you wont be able to finish without some guides, cause you have to know somehow that its impossible to get through without headphones. Yeah, you read that right, YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO GO THROUGH THE LEVEL WITHOUT SOUND. Same level will destroy you in case you dont have enough intuition to figure out that there is an invisible box on the level that you need to finish the level. And same thing goes for some of the easter eggs (achievements), they are not visible on the level, you have to know where to search them, which is just poor game design. I dont understand how this game went through QA succesfully. And it angers me for one reason only, BECAUSE THE GAME IS GOOD. But the amount of negative emotions I got from it is more than positive ones, just because of the issues I mentioned above. So please buy only if you are ready to read guides on how to fix final scene and how to find easter eggs, because this one is impossible to finish offline.

Limbo provided me with a decent set of challenges and a pleasant atmosphere. While the game itself was not challenging, similar to SILT (Use mechanic A to get past Obstacle B, sort of deal), there were a few parts that did require some thinking. Without any colour the game itself has its charm and there could've been some more music scattered around. I'd recommend anyone buying this game to get it on sale for an experience but not for a deep or striking story. The game is in that sweetspot for "Not too short but not too long". You'll be able to complete it in a day. I'm going to give this game a rating 6/10. Not bad at all but a bit lacking; for the discounted price, well worth it (And to eventually play INSIDE in the inevitable future). I'm a bit late to the party given the year, so the hype may have been a lot different from when it first released - Oh well!

The game is cool — black-and-white, minimalistic, weird in a good way. It has a unique vibe and some clever puzzles. But honestly, I wouldn’t really recommend it. It’s interesting, but not for everyone. Kinda slow, a bit repetitive. Glad I played it, but once was enough.

I literally will never forget being sent this game, this one King of Fighters 2013 I think (the one that got a recent retune by SNK), and this one Ninja three lane game back in 2015 when Androids allowed you to share OBB data (God that feels like a lifetime ago). Limbo? It’s a slow unpacking of your nerves, set in a world that’s equal parts empty and too full—of fear, of danger, of meanings you’re not sure you want to understand. You play as a nameless boy. No intro. No dialogue. Just... wake up in a dark forest and walk right. (walk left once you wake for a free achievement) And it’s terrifying. Not because things jump out at you (well, sometimes), but because of how it all feels. The silence. The shadows. The puzzle-solving that straight up PUNISHES overconfidence. Death isn’t flashy—it’s cruel, and immediate. A wrong move isn’t “oops”; it’s “oh.” But it’s beautiful too, in a sad, poetic way. The animation is minimal, but very fluid. The sound design? Sparse and perfect. There’s no music telling you how to feel, just the creak of ropes, the hum of machines, and your own breath catching as you leap over bear traps you didn’t see until the last second (yes. Play this one with headsets for full immersion). The puzzles are clever. Some are mean. But when you solve them, it’s not just satisfying—it’s relieving, like surviving a moment that didn’t want you to. And the ending? I won’t spoil it. But it’s the kind that sticks with you—not because it says a lot, but because it barely says anything at all. You’re left filling in the blanks with your own heartache. An absolute 10/10

LIMBO was exceptional for its time, and is pretty good by today's standards. It has a dense atmosphere, dripping in gloom which holds up really well. It has some stunning imagery and sound design. It has some pretty smart puzzle design, MOST OF THE TIME. Occasionally it seems the only way to figure out how to do something is repeatedly kill yourself until you understand what is actually happening, which could be a part of the games themes, IF IT HAD ANY. It vaguely gestures in the vicinity of some story, but all the profundity must come from the players head, which I am not the biggest fan of. I think something like ‘Journey’ did the silent narrative perfectly, you can play that game and get 100% what it is about, you can really feel some shit (at least, I could) but LIMBO was a bit too vague for my taste. Just my personal opinion, though. I don’t think the artistic desires of things should suffer the constraints of a compulsive need to understand, how a thing makes you feel is a thousand times more important than actually understanding it. I just think my expectation of LIMBO and my experience of it had the same problem I did with ‘The Last of Us.’ I heard for years it was the greatest game of all time, the best story ever told in a game, and millions of peoples favourite game of all time. Having heard that for over a decade, I finally played it and it was… fine. Pretty good, but I have played the things that evolved on the ideas present. LIMBO was part of that first wave of early indie games where the general population began to wonder if video games were actually art. It feels strange to be this way, but while I did not absolutely love LIMBO as much as I had hoped, I do think it should be studied when learning game design. It is good. You should still play it, I wish three hour games were more popular. INSIDE is everything LIMBO set out to do, and they both deserve their flowers. It is still stunningly unique in its presentation, and is very well crafted. I couldn’t find much to attach to, but it means something to someone, and that is enough.

This game was incredible when it first released and it's still just as good almost 14 years later. Indie gaming is pretty massive now but we have this game alongside other early indie games like Braid and Super Meat Boy to thank for really showing the potential that indie games had. That era of the Xbox live arcade where we were getting so many cool indie games like Limbo was a great time, so many gems from that era.

One of the most simple yet creatively crafted puzzle-platformer I have ever played. This review is more than a decade late at this point since I played this game back in 2012 at my friend's house and that was the time I became an instant fan of Playdead Studios. A complete monochrome palette for visuals throughout the game and yet it tells you completely about what the main character would be feeling at all times. A short summary for the story would be, it's a story about a boy who's on a quest to find his lost sister through the woods into the places unknown which has all sorts of dark secrets. As usual, such games are always enjoyable especially on controller which I personally don't use since I am used to keyboard and mouse but nevertheless, its easy to play on keyboard. However, game is locked to 60fps on PC unless you are using something like Special K to modify the fps via settings file and also game by default runs on 720p which can be changed to 1080p via settings file located in the game folder itself. Despite being a 2D platformer, it still boasts great visual for a B&W game which contains landscapes such as forests, buildings, lakes etc with creatures like giant flies and spiders and not just that there are levels which plays with gravity to traverse through the puzzles which was a lot of fun. Overall, gameplay was very relaxed and fun and had a great time even though it was short. I'd happily recommend LIMBO to anyone who likes to play puzzle platformers boasting simple and yet creatively crafted gameplay and good ambience with good story which lives a lot of player's discretion to fill the gaps as to how and what happens to the characters before the game starts and after the game ends.

Limbo is a haunting and visually striking puzzle platformer that masterfully blends atmosphere, gameplay, and emotion. Its black and white aesthetic, combined with minimal sound design, creates a deeply immersive and eerie world that pulls you in from the very first moment. The puzzles are intelligently crafted, challenging without being frustrating and each one feels naturally integrated into the environment. What truly sets Limbo apart is its ability to tell a powerful, wordless story through its setting and progression. It’s a short game, but its impact lasts long after the credits roll. A true indie classic and a must play for anyone who appreciates artistic storytelling in games. 9/10

A very short experience, but makes up for it. The puzzles were ingenious, and very well thought out. The story, while super vague, is definitely quite interesting. Throughout the entire game, you keep asking yourself... who and where you are, and how you got here. This game definitely nails the vibe.

The difficulty level is just right. There are many scenes that seem tough, but even someone like me who is not good at action games can get through them with a few tries. The puzzles can also be cleared by changing your way of thinking a little. Also, since no two puzzles are the same, overcoming each one feels like part of the story. This is amazing. The play time is short, but I think a lot of effort went into adjusting the game.

If possible, I hope the story could put a bit more effort into developing the plot—understanding the characters' motivations would make the experience more immersive. Also, it's true that the latter part doesn't really give enough room to think through and solve the puzzles, which is a bit of a flaw.

I’ve played Inside before and now I’m trying Limbo. Although Limbo feels like a simpler version of Inside, its oppressive atmosphere and dark setting are just as intense. The ending is left open to interpretation. Here’s a theory I came across: The sister was in a car accident and has been in a coma in the hospital, trapped in the limbo between life and death. The brother, determined to wake her up, also ventures into this limbo. After overcoming numerous challenges, he finally reunites with his sister. However, the only way to enter limbo is through death or losing consciousness. Their meeting means they’ve both lost their lives or awareness and will wander in that dark world forever.
