half a good game, half RNG trash.
The movement is janky but once you figure out how to alter your controls to what works, it gets better. I found it hard to play on keyboard. There are no mouse options to speed up the mouse, and I don't want to alter my mouse settings in windows every time I play. That should be standard if you expect people to use a mouse. I found controller to be much more natural feeling. However, using LT as the jump button took some getting used to. If you do the controller method just know, you can remove up on the D-pad as jump and just use LT. This seemed to work much better for me, at least. But, with controller shooting is atrocious. There isn't much lock on so you will have to manually aim most shots and the enemies move very quickly so it can get annoying quick.
To the guns. The starter guns are awful. You literally need any other weapon other than the starting weapon. Most are good, however, there isn't much option to try out new ones on runs. You just don't find them in the wild enough. Most times when you find a gun it is an option between a gun and a powerup, and it just makes more sense to use that for the powerup and hope you get a gun only room (rare) or have extra coins to just buy one for the shop.
The starting characters are not too bad, outside the rythym melee girl riding the plushy (IDK, it looks dumb and plays dumber). The other characters are fine (robot can be annoying without being able to use hearts).
Melee is broken. It does not work. I have tried to melee enemies and I literally cannot. The character will either hit over the enemy or not attempt the hit at all. Then if you are the melee starting character riding the plushy, then you just automiss most things because you are too tall. Same goes with the powerups that make your character bigger on screen. This leads into one of the boss fights where they expect you to stand under and over laser beams but your character is too big and just gets hit automatically.
There are too many RNG based things that are just useless. There are chests where you can take damage to open them, and damage, as you can imagine is something you are trying to avoid. However, when the chest opens all you get is some crystals (which over drop and are useless most of the time). The jackpot doors can go screw themselves. There are doors that you have to pay to spin a roulette wheel to open. If you get 3 in a row you open the door, but then you have to pay in the next thing as well to start the activity....so it just gets frustrating when you are spending 30 coins just to open the door to play the minigame once just to get the crappy minigame and lose the rest of your coins.
The minigames, the only one that seems reasonable and worth it is the piano jumping. It is easy, you can do it most times, given you have anyone but the plushy rider, but the others are terrible. Fishing is easy but rewards you nothing, and the claw game is just stupid because there is no skill that can be applied just hit hope and pray (in the trailer it makes it seem like the claw goes up and down quickly, it does not, and half the time the bomb and the claw sync up in speed so you just end up having to wait and wait and wait).
Pets get annoying because it just helps to get you lost in the map. Not all the pets stay behind you, some wander and most times i'm wondering if it is an enemy or a friend, and if the projectile is from a friend or foe. Just ends up being clutter that makes it more difficult to discern what is happening.
So, to what I did like, some of the boss fights were good, although some attacks really come at your quick without much warning, so if you are jumping while the attack starts you will likely just get hit.
The best part of the game is the guns, it was good to shoot them when you didn't have to worry about a tiny bullet hitting a moving target with a controller and no aiming help. The variety of weapons was good and they all seemed pretty different in function.
But ya, once you get the jumping with LT and the shooting with R3 it becomes playable, but just gets bogged down in all the annoying extra crap.
Also, starting at the bottom right or left side of the screen is an issue because you end up getting pinned there very easily. Becomes the enemies just appear and you don't have any indication what they will be so you have to analyze the entire battlefield instantly to decipher what is going to shoot a lob shot, vs a laser shot, vs a melee charge, vs a midair split shot, vs a laser that just follows you around the screen.
I am thumbing this down because I would not recommend this game to anyone who doesn't already like this genre so much they are willing to play anything (like me).
I have more comments but I think you get the gist.
