This is my introduction to the DJMAX series. My experience may be a little biased, so it's worth mentioning that I have extensively played rhythm games prior to DJMAX RESPECT V. I am already proficient at titles such as Dance Dance Revolution, Beatmania, In The Groove, DJ Hero, Rock Band, Flash Flash Revolution, ParaPara, Clone Hero, etc (probably missing a few but these were the ones I can recall the most) Picking up DJMAX for the first time felt very familiar. Reminds me the most of Beatmania, without a doubt. A game I always had an appreciation & reverence for but never got to play often. The scoring system reminds me of the percentage grade system from In The Groove, and I feel like it works really well for perfectionist type players. The music videos give old school DDR arcade vibes. If you know, you know. Strobe lights and seizure-inducing animations to distract you from the notes charted to the song. This game is exceptional for what it is, but not entirely without its flaws. Here are some things I'd like to point out; Pros: -Incredibly easy to jump right into -Replay value is through the roof -UI is simple, easy to navigate, and you can customize it (with themes) -Responsive tracking for note accuracy -Tons of DLC to tide you over if the base game isn't enough (spoiler alert; you will want more) -Variety of play styles to keep your experience fresh and challenging -Plethora of unlockables, if you like achievements and grinding stuff this might be your next new obsession -You can stick with one playstyle (4B, 5B, 6B, 8B) and clear a respectable amount of content/unlockables, though I think it's in the games design to progress you to higher difficulties via Mission Mode -Different modes to pick from, not your typical streamlined arcade experience --------------------------- Cons: -Not all songs are great, especially if you are limited to just the base game (lots of pop) -Best played with extra (paid) content, I personally would not have enjoyed the game as much without extra song packs to give me options -Higher difficulties/higher button counts can be deterring for new players such as myself (I still haven't even touched 6B or 8B tracks for the most part) -Plate unlocks can be rather time consuming for those who don't want to play the same song 10 different times (even with different patterns/button styles it can be repetitive) -DLC in itself is costly if you don't get it on sale, not sure if I would have expanded my game without the 80 percent off sale --------------------------- Closing notes: This is a GRINDY game. I have no problem with it personally, but I can see how others might be put off by the sheer amount of things to do. The replay value is entirely subjective and heavily depends on how you click with the soundtrack/gameplay. If you LOVE rhythm games, this is a must try!!!! However..... I cannot in good faith recommend this to anyone who doesn't already play or enjoy rhythm games such as the ones I mentioned in the beginning of the review. It's kind of a niche genre but still clearly alive and well for some of us. I'm glad I picked this up, and will continue to push myself to higher difficulties and different pattern play styles as I progress. At about 30 hours in (at the point of posting this review) I can EASILY see myself putting another 30+ hours into grinding out achievements. I love music games, so this felt like finding a hidden gem when it was recommended to me via Steam. I have two scores to give today, one for people who actually play rhythm games regularly and one for the "average gamer" Rhythm Gamer Score: 8.5 / 10 Average Gamer Score: 6 / 10

This is a very solid rhythm game that is unfortunately being held back by a DLC monetization system that would make Paradox Interactive have a run for their money. While buying the base game is fine since there is an AIR mode which lets you play a rotating selection of songs at random (however you can't save your score or have any kind of meaningful progression in the process), the song selection in the FreeStyle mode (which is probably the main game mode aside from multiplayer) is extremely limited, which is why I recommend people to buy the game during a very heavy sale (or better yet, buy it both on sale *and* only a few DLCs at a time, just so you can dip your toes and see if the game is to your liking without shelling out crazy bucks into it).

With my almost minuscule 5 hours in this game, I can confidently say that it is AMAZING. With such a small amount of playtime ive already managed to - Reach Trainee 1 - Reach Level 20 - Reach Silver in Online - Spend money on a DLC pack (Cytus) The music/song choice in this game is very broad, and personally, I find myself enjoying playing even some of the songs I don't like. The charts are amazing, and the way the side tracks are used in charts feels right, and its a decently easy feature to get used to coming from more simple VSRG's, but drastically increases the skill ceiling and challenge of the game. All of the gears and notes feel unique and each in their own way fun and clean to play with, and the addition of the AIR and LADDER gamemodes make it much more replayable in my opinion, In conclusion, this game is extremely fun and a nice change of pace from the simplicity of other VSRG rhythm games, offering WAY more content than most, even if some are at a price. I got this game on sale for $10, and personally, I wouldn't spend $50 on this game. But if you've got some extra money, and know youll come back to it over and over, it might be for you. I reccomend waiting for a sale though

DJMax Respect V, developed by Rocky Studio and published by Neowiz, is a standout rhythm game that skillfully blends a rich musical library with precise, engaging gameplay mechanics, creating a rewarding experience for both newcomers and veteran rhythm game enthusiasts. As the latest main entry in the long-running DJMax series, Respect V not only honors its legacy with an impressive roster of songs spanning various genres—ranging from electronic and pop to rock and jazz—but also modernizes the experience with crisp visuals, a smooth interface, and expanded online features. The game’s core gameplay centers on timing and accuracy, challenging players to hit notes synchronized with complex, pulsating tracks, where speed, pattern recognition, and reflexes are put to the test. One of the game’s greatest strengths is its extensive content. With over 160 tracks at launch, including iconic fan favorites and new compositions, players have a vast, varied soundtrack that caters to diverse musical tastes. The songs are beautifully presented with vibrant background animations and effects that amplify the energetic vibe without distracting from the gameplay. Multiple difficulty modes and note patterns ensure accessibility for beginners while offering intense challenges for experts seeking to push their skills. The inclusion of a variety of input options—from keyboard and controllers to specialized rhythm game hardware—further broadens its appeal. Visually, Respect V impresses with sharp, colorful menus and stage designs that capture the futuristic, cybernetic aesthetic the series is known for. The UI is clean and intuitive, allowing players to navigate modes, customize their experience, and track stats with ease. The game’s online multiplayer and competitive modes bring a vibrant community aspect, offering ranked matches and leaderboards that motivate continual improvement. Additionally, the mission modes and unlockables provide meaningful progression, encouraging repeated play and mastery of challenging songs. That said, DJMax Respect V isn’t without minor flaws. Some players have noted occasional balancing issues in song difficulties and a steep learning curve that might overwhelm casual players. The story mode and single-player campaign elements feel minimal compared to other rhythm games, focusing more on score chasing than narrative depth. Moreover, while the online features are robust, the player base can sometimes feel fragmented due to the niche genre and region-locking limitations. In conclusion, DJMax Respect V stands as a compelling and polished entry in the rhythm game genre, offering a comprehensive package of music, challenge, and style. Its deep tracklist, responsive gameplay, and strong community features make it an essential experience for fans of music games seeking both nostalgic hits and fresh compositions. Though it leans more toward competitive and skill-based play, its addictive rhythms and sleek presentation ensure it remains accessible and enjoyable, securing its place as a modern classic in rhythm gaming. As much as I really enjoy the game, it's honestly hard to recommend the game to others once I found out that this was online only (Steam Deck user here, can't really play this as conveniently when travelling about). Also means that I really doubt this game will remain playable if the developer/publisher chooses to move onto a sequel (and it sounds like this has happened quite a bit given their past DJ Max games), so I also haven't really bought much more DLC for this game despite really wanting to. if you don't mind any of this, this is a really nice music, rhythm game with great soundtracks. Otherwise, there are other games in this genre that don't suffer from such a problem.

Like Guitar Hero with the funk and sass of DJ Hero. Great options for casual to extreme play level and stunning visual flair. Many ways to customize to your hand-eye coordination. Lovely music. I do not miss the days of expensive peripherals at all, even though I enjoyed those times. I also got it pretty cheap. 10/10

I played this game on launch and didn't enjoy it that much with the manual fever and the old scoring system. Now, with all the changes and the amount of songs available I'm falling in love with it! Also very happy that it's compatible with ASIO so the timing is super tight.

Literally my favorite game of all time. I'm back and forth on it. But every time, the beat maps switches with most songs as I personally find anything super repetitive. My opinion. Allowing you to understand certain techniques of each song it's got. This game even offers many customization options for profile, beat UI, main menu, and to add... Even the SFX for getting a combo going while hitting without missing a note. I personally play this, TLoU, Enter the Gungeon, DMCV. But I always find myself wanting to play this game above anything being the most hours I put into the game. The multiplayer offers some experiences like 1v1 to see who can hit most combos by tracking the accuracy of those songs to climb the ladder for RANKED whenever the season is going. If not ranked, you can simply join other lobbies where you can binge other songs the person hosting has to play along with them and enjoy. It's a casual experience but it's like you are there trying to "git gud" while relaxing if that does make any sense. DJMRV even offer a weird thing named AIR that is like playing songs you don't really have? But you can go on for hours with this live streaming set where you can see multiple emojis and even text in there. It's public and people can see that. You even have emojis with animating SFX which some are definitely either animating or static. Nonetheless, it has a lot of personality with it and their mascots of the franchise. You have missions where that is straight forward. Example: Completing five songs... first two songs are 4B, third song is 5B, and last is 6B with an effect named Fade-in. These are super challenging for me personally but if you wanna torture yourself and play this in freestyle meaning you can freely pick whatever song, you have the option to apply the chaos effects that could look like pixels every time you miss a note OR you can flip the whole thing having to figure out which buttons is which. There is a lot to it and the devs give you free options. I thoroughly appreciate this game as somebody who has dedicated hours on it and think you should consider this game. It's not gonna give you some mainstream garbage of music off the radio but rather has their own artist who works with the devs? I'm not sure. But the music is diverse and genre-bending sometimes that you get to truly be immerse in hitting the notes while The Universe or Die In is playing. Currently, I'm enjoying the V Liberty 3 Pack with 5B. I recommend that and the one with Die In. Those or if you like old school Djmax, they even sell Technika Pack. Thank you.

Thought I'd leave a review, since I do love the game a lot 😁 Honestly out of all the VSRGs on PC that I have played, this is one of the best, if not the best VSRG on PC. There's a lot of aspects that make the game stand out: Song selection, Gameplay experience regarding charting, Community in ladder and lobby matches , Aesthetics, especially with skins. DLCs are a huge part of DJMAX RESPECT V but they are 100% worth it except perhaps 2 or 3 DLC packs (only my opinion), but it's simply the fact that most aspects of the game are quite well designed and developed, with the stunning and cool BGAs, as well as the fact hitsounds are rather keysounded which makes the experience much better! The game is interesting considering the fact there are 4 different modes: 4B, 5B, 6B and 8B, all of which are fun and enjoyable, especially 5B (love the charting in 5B most of the time). The simple Freestyle mode or Air mode aren't necessarily challenging, as far as I am aware the timing window in these modes are pretty lenient, however after playing for a while mission mode can be discovered, where these can be referred to as "courses" where they feature a set of tracks in a course with set regulations, and sometimes these can use "Hard Judge" i.e. a tighter timing window, so these are a way to challenge yourself. Other than that, I genuinely do suggest playing DJMAX RESPECT V out, explore the 4 different game modes and don't just stick to one, and buy the game with at least one of the V Extension or V Liberty DLCs, there are many good songs in those packs!

Pretty good rhythm game, if u have played O2Jam (boomer game) then u might find this similar Pros: + very good animation video + key note with sound + very well designed UI/theme (very weeb.) + many songs (Base game already include 195 songs, but require play to unlock. Dlcs give another 400+ songs) + Can be used as music player (Air mode + video music player in collection mode) + Multiple game mode (4,5,6,8 keys) and multiple difficulties for each song Cons: - Too many dlcs (often have 80% sales) - Existence of seasonal pass (The song in seasonal pass will become free after 9 months) - Not friendly to boomer

i got this on sale for about 6 pounds, this game has honestly changed my life but saying that i wouldn't buy it unless its on sale. i'm completely and utterly absolutely OBSESSED with it. i don't think i've ever been as obsessed with a game in my life. i'm not usually a rhythm game person bar maybe a couple hours on geometry dash and muse dash. the game is a little bit confusing at first and i didn't know where to start but the ui is generally pretty easy to use and get the hang of. a lil tip F11 helps you change the theme to your profile. the base game generally has a lot of songs that range in difficulty. 1 star being the easiest and 15 stars being the hardest. each song has different difficulty levels, normal, hard, maximum and sc. each song also has different button ranges, 4b, 5b, 6b, 8b.

i really, really, really like this game. it's so polished and stylish, and has FANTASTIC music. it is a bit expensive, but i feel like you get what you pay for, over something like osu! mania or other alternatives. for djmax, you're paying for the custom music videos, the amazing original songs, and the polish that comes with a dedicated team of charters. as someone who loves rhythm games but isn't very hardcore, this is probably my favorite rhythm game of all time. highly recommend.

Nostalgia overload for me! Visually stunning! So many songs to choose from to enjoy and the tracks hit hard! So satisfying to hit those perfect notes to get "Max 100%" Hope to get the other DLC's someday! Difficulty: Super easy to fucking insanely hard like: "HOW????? WAIIIITTTT!!! ARRGGHHHHHHH!!! HOW AM I GONNA-ASDJKBASJLDBASJ" (Depends on the song difficulty to play) Presentation is top-notch and astounding: 5/5 stars Gameplay is amazing for a rhythm game: 5/5 stars Replayability: 5/5 Highly recommendable to start for those interested in trying rhythm game for the first time and up to challenging players to those fast reflexes of button pressing and timing galore! Overall rating: 5/5 stars (Favorite game for me!)

This seems to be the best option regarding rhythm games to date. I have not really explored many others but it has got all these kind of games must have. The option to choose between 4, 5,6,8 keys to use is great, there is a big selection of free songs and much more behind payed DLC . About music, one bad side is that if one is not much into asian kinda anime music, one can find very few songs to like, there are some really good ones I have favorited tho and. Gameplay wise, the notes system is really cool, it is played on point, no lag, and the response is accurate as it should be in this kind of games. You can even customize if you want the board to be left, right or center which is pretty nice. Overall a great game if you are into rhythm games, you will find it very much to your liking.
