It's pretty wild that you can buy Mortal Shell for less than the price of a bottle of soda! And honestly, it's debatable which one is actually worse for your system in the long run.

If you've spent any time in the "Soulslike" genre, you know what you're getting into: tough fights, a mysterious world, and a whole lot of dying. But Cold Symmetry, the folks behind this one, have really managed to carve out their own space. If you're into that kind of punishing combat, atmospheric vibes, and a sense of oppressive mystery, then seriously, Fallgrim is waiting for you. The core of Mortal Shell is exactly what you'd expect from a Soulslike – that deliberate, not so punishing combat. Every single enemy encounter feels like it matters, forcing you to really nail your timing, dodge precisely, and think smart before going in a fight. But here's where Mortal Shell gets interesting: the "Shell" mechanic. Instead of picking a class, you actually jump into the discarded bodies of fallen warriors. Each one has different stats and abilities, which totally changes how you play. It's a really cool system that pushes you to experiment and adapt, which is super refreshing. one last point of the advantages of this game, is that even though it's punishing you, it does it in a fun way, and once you get handle of the game, it gets easier to grind back up even if you did die & didn't pick up back where you left

This game has its flaws but it's also worth experiencing it considering how short it is and the price you pay for it nowadays. Pros: - Short game (great for those with limited time) - Quite challenging, because of the layout of the maps and enemies placed in strategic positions - Grim atmosphere, cryptic and immersive, capturing the essence of the Souls genre - NPC voices are cool - The Shell system is unique and fun to explore Cons: - Short game (may leave you wanting more) - Hardcore to progress at the beginning, easy at the end - Some maps are a torture for the player - Subtle OST, almost non-existent

I owned this game on ps4. Convinced my sun bros to buy for their ps5. Now I picked it up again on steam during summer sale. It's a good game, sadly the issues I encountered back then are still the same issues I encountered today. Enemy pop in (Worst of them all specially when you're trying to do the obsidian run) and boss "dying" even if they still have remaining HP in their hp bar and the game won't progress. These bugs aside, I think it's a pretty solid experience.

Uniqe. Different approach. It is not perfect but i really like it. I beat entire game with first shell. Harden is amazing. When u master it becomes like flow. Start of the game is not great. I recommend skipping fights and just rush bosses. U will get what u need from them and u can farm remaning XP to upgrade weapon before last boss. Atleast i did it like that and had great time. Bosses are mostly basic but fair and well executed. Boss attacks are fairly easy to read. For 1$ it is insane value. Waiting on MS2 now. That trailer was amazing.

Pros: Interesting game mechanics like Harden and Shells make it not another "Souls clone" Very horroresque atmosphere Combat is fluid You can play on lute some really cool stuff Cons: It's short (can be beaten in around 20h, but there is additional roguelike mode) Some levels feel unpolished due to non-game breaking bugs here and there It's possible to "break" game difficulty by completing one of endgame locations very early, and thus making rest of the game feel like cakewalk. Verdict: 7/10

Mortal Shell is a short game but an incredible soulslike. It has its own personality and style. I am waiting for its sequel. I highly recommend it.

Honestly despite me only playing for so and so long i would say mortal shell is an ok game nothing to truly ride home about like i get the whole point is shelling up and that you are some vessel of some sort looking for a husk to fight stuff in but to be honest it aint my cup of tea so cant really say if its good or not but its not for me get it if you would like just dont expect too much. (i dont recommend nor not recommend the game, really it's up to yall)

Was thinking to give a positive review, but the most stupid thing in the game is the undead after fog, they are un-dodgable, Im really irritated, it is bad design. People always try not to compare this to DS (dark souls) series, but in terms of story, game design, it is way too far, the combat is okay tho, I like the shell concept, but overall some bad design in this game just makes you feel angry.

Cool game and concept. The combat in this game is ridiculous tho. Swinging is super slow, your block has a cool down, and the dodge works only 75% of the time right. Hope the sequel is better.

Game is okay-ish forgot how boring and slow the fights are especially with that ice boss. Insanely boring, I really wanna like this game but the boss fights just ain't it. Sequel better be good.

Ohhhh my god this game is horrible. The combat while definitely landing on the side of "realistic and heavy" is incredibly unresponsive and lanky. The dodge barely works half the time as it feels the game drops inputs. Stamina regen takes far too long for how aggressive the game wants you to be. The parry system feels like a crapshoot because you can do the exact same timing multiple times and only have it work sometimes. The level design and layout are uninspired and encourages running past every enemy. Not to mention the constant crashing on higher graphics settings, which is unreasonable as I have a pretty high end system. Now if you try to play on lower graphics settings, unfortunately it wasn't tested it seems. If you play on medium settings or lower the game doesn't render properly and leaves you with a blinding fog in most areas so you can't see anything. I will also say the lack of easily accessible healing items/methods is extremely frustrating. I got this game on sale for 1$ and I would say that is asking too much. Don't play this game.

Game feels a bit clunky. Still some glitches around hardening and then resuming combat. Used my starting shell and weapon all throughout the end. There did not really feel like there was any real build progression except for using quenching acid to upgrade the weapon. Once I fully upgraded the starting weapon and maxed out my starting shell, there felt like no need to branch out to other weapons or shells. I felt like I explored most places and only found enough quenching acid to upgrade 1 weapon 100% and another weapon 80%. The rate the game drops glimpses is too low for how short it is. I had to actively grind just to get enough glimpses to fully upgrade just 1 shell. To experience all weapons and shells fully maxed out would require multiple playthroughs and way more playtime. I only have enough time to play a game through to the end once at this point in my life. It would have been nice to get the full experience with each shell/weapon fully upgraded, but I'm not going to mindlessly farm trash mobs for hours to get the glimpses I need or complete multiple runs of NG+ for the quenching acid. Just do not have the time. Glimpse/tar/quenching acid would all have to be massively increased to experience it all in one playthrough.

General impressions in order of importance

This is still a soulslike, but balance is very in favor of player compared to e.g. Dark souls, you basically get presets of different characters as shells that you can switch between. Upgrades to them feel mostly insignificant. Fighting 2 or more enemies at once requires your attention
I played with mods that give more tar and more glimpses (in game resource for upgrades), without them would be a bit grindy, as healing is very limited.
Short fun experience, dark unforgiving world as other similar titles
Harden mechanic is pretty unique and fun to use, fighiting overall is mostly pleasant, weapon abiilities also give you breathing room to avoid incoming damage.
I suggest you just ignore parry, it is clunky
Great value if you get it on 90% discount (i finished it in about 12hours)
Lore is confusing, but somebody on reddit figured it out
Game loves fog and green tint, a bit too much to my taste
Environment is mostly unbreakable, but stepping on lute is almost a jumpscare
This is a short but pretty good game that I got on sale for about $2. For $2, this is a great game. If I has paid over $15 for this game, I would not have been happy with the experience. There's some bugginess, some jank, not a ton of plot, the terrain is intentionally difficult to navigate, and no map is provided. If you get this game, get it on sale. Do yourself a favor and get some quality of life mods. I got the Charitable Merchant, Better Consumables, and the Simple Realistic 3D for Mortal Shell from nexus. These made the experience more enjoyable.

Bit of preface and warning for others on Windows 11. First off, never could get the game to launch on my main desktop that runs on Windows 11. Could be my specific setup of the OS or just the UE4 engine throwing a fit on W11. Other hand, no issue running the game on my older laptop on Windows 10 so I played the game on it. Also, I pick this game up when it was heavily discounted. Alrighty first off, yep, can tell this game is rough around the edges but quite interesting. Personally, I enjoy the hardening mechanic along with experimenting with it with each weapon. Game starts off a bit slow but once ye get some upgrades on a shell and heavily start abusing certain strats. Aka, Ebreim with hammer & chisel with stacks equates to just beating up the bosses. It is a very short game depending on one's skill level (I finish it around under ~9 hours with me poking my noise all over the place). I would of had like it a bit longer but the shorter length does allow for an another run with a different shell without demanding a ton of hours. Since it is short, of course, not many bosses. Each though I found quite unique and a bit interesting. The bosses though are nothing like say the late stage ones in Elden Ring, so if ya use to that, these ones are fairly easy to learn and read their patterns. Overall, I did quite enjoy the game though I probably advise best to get when on sale for best bang for buck. Hopefully the upcoming sequel adds a bit more variety and ups the challenge on the bosses. Now onto the parts I didn't like. While hub area didn't confuse me too bad (I'm so dang use to confusing map layouts with the likes of Rain World), it could of still been a little better done to show paths or where the three other areas are at. Most of the areas are kinda similar in color tone exception being the Eternals. So, yeah....Eternals. Neat area but someone really went and said, yes, archers, everywhere. I probably would of not been too miff about the archers if had a quicker way to address being shot at while going up some dang stairs but bloody that section was annoying. Music wise, love the heavy metal going for the boss fights. Offset...majority rest of the game is soooo, ehhh? Would of like a bit more variety or something for some background OST. Maybe something like how Rain World does threat themes would of been nice. Okay, now, onto the upgrade system. Interesting setup, but feels a bit lacking in depth. Would be nice for a little bit of ability to say customize a bit of the stats on a shell or at least lean heavier into a shell's strengths. Probably big reason I used Erebrim because the stacking ability was just so nice to use and rewarded smacking everything in sight. Personally, I recommend to give the game a shake if it is on sale and got that itch for a semi-hard souls-like. Just I advise, if on W11, it might not run. Here is to hoping the sequel expands more. If anything go by the trailer, does look like more weps, even range weps, and more shells with more enemy variety.

I strongly recommend this game!!!! Environment design and overall aesthetic: Beautiful. The voice acting is on another level. The music is also outstanding—especially the tracks by Rotting Christ! The boss fights were pretty okay for me—some were challenging, others kind of easy. It's worth your time.

A competent Souls-like. Of course it's taken inspiration, but the lore and world feel unique. The combat is also more slower paced. Graphics are great, plays well on ultrawide resolutions and doesn't have a 60 fps cap. Recommended for anyone wanting another Souls-like to play.

Graphics are nice and performance is good(rx6600 1080p all ultra settings 80+fps running through Proton on Linux) but the controls are super floaty and using the harden mechanic is cool but super annoying due to it's long cooldown and it's just so clunky overall. The mechanics didn't have proper explanation outside off the press ctrl to harden and then introduction boss so there's some kind of amulet or whatever in your inventory that is supposed to heal you for the damage you take during harden but it never showed how to use it (Q to use item doesn't work) and description says you have to use it to reveal more information. Consumable items have fixed spawns and they have cooldown so i guess you will have to run circles to farm consumables. It's a very cool idea but execution sucks especially the floaty controls and character attack animations

Pretty short for a souls-like game but enjoyable. I heard it was unplayable to many at first but I haven't encountered any issues myself. As for souls-like, it's not your classic dodge, block and attack. Blocking has a totally different mechanic by hardening. <--- Makes the game do-able. My souls-like rating 7/10

so ik i haven't gotten a decent time in the game but the reason is it got me so mad that i can't possibly keep playing. now yes the game is hard like any souls like but this game lacks 3 things that make it a fair hard 1. the lack of a way to heal constantly without grinding for a hour to heal maybe 3 times for 30 hp 2. the only constant heal you have is on a cool down and a meter bar that is connected to your skills consumption and you can only fill it by killing enemies. 3. even with the starting shell you can get hit 4 times by any starting enemy and die no mater how far you could get in the game. 4. the stamina regen is extremely slow where to the point it is better to get hit then to dodge the attack so you have enough stamina to hit the enemy 5. the dodge system is wonky and you might not even dodge when you could of and die from it 6. in a game with no constant healing and very little ways to heal yourself without a consumable that isn't recharged when you die you can step in a bear trap and lose a chunk of your hp to only take 3 hits to die. so to make it simple this game is not just souls like hard it is rage game hard it will make you hate it before you can even want to finish it oh and lets not forget the worst part. it is getting a sequal that might be just as bad.

i personally hate dark souls style games, because im horrendous at it. anyway this is a honest review non biased about this game: The idea is nice, it feels very bland , a slash this and that and die and try again kinda game. but there is some nice aspects, there is a decent enemy variety, enemies are strong af and you have to learn their moves to know how to defeat, a buttload of consumable items which i didnt care, 5 weapons / 5 shells (i think). its a genuinely decent game for under 10, i got it for like 93% off. if you like souls games, this might be a nice few hours of entertainment

Coming from playing a lot of fromsoft games, Mortal Shell def scratched the itch. It took a little while to dial in the combat system, and to figure out tar/glimpses. But it was for sure worth playing, it is a very short game so if you can score this game on sale it is worth it. I did find myself wanting more variety in the shells, the skill trees will leave rpg gamers bored, but it is pretty rewarding when you find a playstyle that fits. All in all, this a easy intro to soulslike, simple crafting, easy to find items and only a handful of bosses, it will teach you to platform with no map as well. 7.5/10 for me! Also: Don't be dissuaded from finishing the game after getting pummeled by the first Grisha.

Got it on sale and it was a fun game. The harden mechanic is a nice gimmick to change it up from just dodge rolling or sword and boarding a game like this. Final boss was a glitchy mess and almost bade me drop the game though. Minor glitches throughout the game but nothing game breaking ever happened. i don't know if its worth the full price but for the $5 I spent great game.

It is hard to play a game when the camera is all over the place and there are no settings to adjust to your liking. The FOV for example, is all over the place both in and out of battle. I'm not a fan of the "hardening" mechanic. Just give me a shield. Dodging needs serious work. I hope the devs remove some of these annoying mechanics for Mortal Shell II.

For a game that initially started as a project called "Dungeon Haven", which was made by two people, this game is good with amazing graphics and really good physics! But be aware that the game is really short! It takes around 10hours for the first playthrough. So if you buy it on sale, then it's definitely worth it! Looking forward to the release of Mortal Shell ll

I wanted to give this an honest review, but I genuinely couldn't get past the first boss, the camera. This isn't a troll review though despite my name. It auto-aligns with forward movement, and is something you'll constantly be battling during combat. I'm sure with enough hours, it becomes second nature, and easy to deal with, but the fact there isn't a simple boolean toggle option for "Auto-Align ON/OFF", is insane to me as a developer myself. If the developers had ever played even a single souls-like, they could of literally copied the player setup with controls 1:1. Hopefully their sequel learns from all the mistakes of this one, and is an absolute banger. But for now I'm avoiding this one. I can't even admit it was worth $1.50 because of how badly the player/camera controls.

Mediocre in every aspect. Actually, the "lore" at least sounds cool, but it's full of typos lol. Half of the weapons are slower than molasses and will get you stun-locked. Sadly, the DLC sucks too; it's just the game but with boring random perks littered around, no checkpoints, and enemy spam in the name of "replayability". Play a good Dark Souls rip-off instead.

fairly decent game. the things i didnt like about this game are the lack of customisability and options for the player i think there are only 5 or 4 shells and weapons in this game. (havent complete it). the graphics and visuals are good the music is not that great but works well ig. healing options are limited and that could be the reason it is challenging for new players but it goes away once you've mastered some of the unique mechanics like harden and parry. the bad thing is you have to grind for healing. About parrying, it feels slow, after playing sekiro and nine sols i want so fast parrying mechanics, this just feels slow the great thing about parrying is the reposte parry, it is not unlimited so you cannot spam it which is good, and with the limited health it pairs well but i would still prefer the traditional methods of healing. the bosses are challenging and have cool design but they lack the soul idk how to describe it but something is just missing maybe the boss music? i have only encountered the 1st boss btw "grisha" is its name iirc. this is a decent game and for the price i got it for its a pretty good game, like 50 cents (40 rupees) for a soulslike is a steal and makes it worth playing. i hope the sequel is better.

i have a bit of experience when it comes to souls-likes and i think this might be the worst one i've ever played. Terrible starting area, weird and floaty combat, a healing system that makes the bloodvials in bloodborne look like a masterpiece in comparison and a lot of annoying shit in general. i played this game on Epic about 2 years ago and i wanted to give it another chance but sadly it didn't deserve one.
This game is so incredibly close to greatness, yet is ruined by a seeming lack of understanding of what makes soulsborne games great.

The Combat Style
This game aims for a proactive combat style similar to sekiro's, but with slightly slower paced rhythm of DS3/Bloodborne. Unfortunately, the stamina amount you get is simply way too small to support that. You can't get more than a 4 hit combo off without needing to back off to wait for either your stamina or your "harden" bar to refill.
The Sluggish Controls
Mortal Shell is trying to be dark souls but heavy. It does that well, but to the detriment of the gameplay. the dodge requires a quarter of a second or so to start after pressing the button, so you need to start dodging quite a bit before the attack is actually going to land. This leads to a weird mix of no invincibility frames at the start of dodging and too many at the end, where you can get away without being hit even when it seems the animation has fully stopped. The parry has a similar issue, where it requires a slight amount of time to start, making enemies with fast paced and varied attacks borderline impossible to parry. You always feel like it's either way too early or way too late. This is quite an issue, considering parrying is one of the main ways to regain health. This ends up with you often praying to run into slow fodder enemies to regain health without wasting items.
Resolve
This game basically took Hollow Knight's soul system and made it into a melee buffing mechanic instead of spells. Which is great! That works way better in a 3D soulslike! Unfortunately, it's just not balanced well. You need to perform a lot of attacks to gain even one charge of resolve, and that can only be used for a lifesteal parry. Want to use your weapon's special attack? That's 2 charges (12-15 hits, maybe? i can't find the exact numbers online), Which is ridiculous. the situations where using your special attack is not a complete waste of resolve are extremely niche. What makes this even dumber, is that resolve gradually goes down when not attacking, putting you under constant stress. I'm sure it was made this way to encourage offense, but the combat just doesn't allow constant attacking in the style of Sekiro! Has no one in the dev team done an actual playthrough of their game??
The Weapons
The hardening ability in this game removes my usual gripes with heavy weapons in souls games, allowing you to become invulnerable mid attack and thus reducing the annoyance of long attack animations, and i'm glad the devs took advantage of that. It introduces a different problem though, the damage being completely disproportionate to the weapon you're wielding. The martyr's blade, for example, is extremely large and heavy, yet it takes 4-5 hits to kill a basic enemy. why!? You don't have to make every enemy take half a dozen hits to kill, let people have fun! This stat bloat just makes you feel like the weapons you're wielding are made out of rubber. It gets better with damage upgrades, but still, ech.
The (Lack of) Checkpoints/Resting Areas
There are checkpoints at the transition between areas. That's it. There's no places to rest, meaning that once you use up your "second chance" there's no way to regain it other than dying. I'm pretty sure there's an upgrade that allows you to recover it eventually, but it's so expensive you probably won't get it until hours into the game.
The Enemy Spam
It makes Dark Souls 2 look reasonable in comparison. Yeah... I'm tired of writing, it's just, yeah.
Conclusion
There's concepts of a genuinely amazing and innovative combat system here, but the awful balancing and general lack of understanding of soulsborne games just makes it not fun. Devs, please make mortal shell 2 actually good, you have great ideas but it just needs a lot of polish.

Most of my complaints have already been voiced by others. Its an interesting take on a soulslike, the swapping of bodies and learning lore/getting better use of items by using them to become more familiar with them is brilliant, but the combat suuuuuucks. Its every worst part of Dark Souls 2 rolled into its own system, and I say that as a fan of DS2. Enemy placement and AI mean you either get jumped 24/7 in unfun, near-unwinnable fights OR you slowly lure every enemy one by one out to somewhere safe to 1v1 them. And there are several sections that simply spawn several enemies directly behind you while opening a chest or grabbing an item. Even if you decide to test your skills and take on these enemies all at once, the healing options are slow, clunky, and can't be easily farmed as they are on a global five minute timer unless you buy them from a merchant in the "hub" area, which you cannot fast travel to and have to traverse the entire map to get back to, so 90% of the time its a pyrrhic victory even if you DO win. It simply encourages you to move in swing once, maybe twice, and then dodge roll out to conserve your stamina, which doesn't really vibe well with many other mechanics in the game. Also fighting most of the enemies is barely worth the Tar you get for them. The level design is very pretty but also terrible for gameplay. I found myself either getting stuck on small rocks, being shoved around by enemies into traps, or straight up falling to my death while rolling to dodge because both my ONLY TWO defensive options were on cooldown. At about the fifth time dying this way while trying to travel backwards through the Seat of Infinity on the floating platforms, I just uninstalled and don't think I'll be coming back. I DO like the idea of fast travel being very limited, and having to traverse backwards through dungeons with new enemy placement once you've fulfilled your goal, but you gotta have god-tier level design to make it work and this simply ain't it. The "tutorial" is very bare bones and doesn't really teach you anything you wouldn't already expect outside the Harden mechanic, which is a cool but kinda meh mechanic for me personally. It would've been more compelling if it was a unique thing one of the Shells did and that Shell's talent tree expanded on its use. As it stands, it lets you tank one or maybe two hits and get in an extra swing before going on an overlong cooldown, which means you lose basically all your Resolve gauge you've built up while you wait for it come back to safely get back into combat, which is the resource that powers your only other defensive option and the most reliable way of healing: your sigil parry. Overall, your options are either play it safe and harden/running attack and dodge away or find that sweet spot where your weapon can reach them before they start their uninterruptible combo and wail on them and then back up/dodge away and rinse and repeat fast enough to earn enough resolve before it drains away to get a parry. Overall, not very fun combat when you have such limited options. The two major bosses I fought were very visually striking and could actually be kinda fun to fight after learning their moveset, but they were kinda bare bones in terms of fights. With only one or two new moves being added in their second phase, it didn't take me long to beat them. The lore is also kinda.... eh. Its not really there. Several item descriptions, after becoming fully familiar with them, give either very little new information or simply no information of consequence. The different variations of Tar all basically say the same thing with slightly better specificity, the weapons and Shells hint at a story but don't give you any concrete connections to characters unless those characters themselves happen to mention something while you're inhabiting that Shell and even then its vague at best. Overall, it feels like the writer behind a lot of this took the Fromsoft staple of "be vague" to uninteresting heights, at least for me. And just a personal, not-objective-at-all gripe: the "hard" achievements being based around the "gitgud" souls mindset of beating the game in a no-hit naked run with shitty weapons is just really, really annoying and sucks. I like to 100% games but I'm not going to grind my balls doing that shit.

I had more fun with the first Lords of the Fallen, which should be a good description of how dire the situation is.

This game isn't a Souls-like, it's the most primitive Hack and Slash in the world! The same enemies with the same 1 or 2 moves! I’ve had something jump on my neck at least a hundred times and there was absolutely nothing I could do about it, and to top it all off, the controls are awful! Both the character and the enemies slide all over the place, which constantly causes me to fall off high ledges. Upgrading weapons is nearly pointless! Even after the 5th upgrade, they're only about 50% stronger than the base version. The level design is a disaster! Okay, the whole thing is a labyrinth, fine! But why is there no fast travel? Or well, there is! You can teleport to a specific NPC, but only at the end of each map, at which point there's nothing left to do there! So the developers clearly thought, “Have fun walking all the way back!” Most of the game’s mechanics are completely meaningless! It’s a mix of half-baked ideas! There’s basically no story, and the post final boss cutscene is the most weightless ending I’ve ever seen! Essentially, this is a typical Unreal Engine asset flip game with a Souls atmosphere. The trailer for the sequel looked amazing, which is why I wanted to try this one, but now I’ve completely lost interest! Let’s hope that game turns out miles better! A fegyverek fejlesztésének szinte semmi értelme! Úgyhogy kellemes mászkálást visszafele, gondolták a fejlesztők! A játék tucatnyi mechanikájának semmi értelme! Félkész megoldások egyvelege az egész! Történet az kvázi nincs, a final boss utáni cutscene a legsúlytalanabb befejezés amit láttam! Lényegében a játék tipikus unreal engine asset flip játék souls hangulattal! A 2. rész trailere nagyon jól nézett ki, emiatt akartam kipróbálni, de most az összes kedvem elment tőle! Reménykedjünk, hogy az a játék mérföldekkel jobb lesz!

### 💀 **Mortal Shell – A Soulslike That Forgets the “Like” Part** I picked up *Mortal Shell* looking for that classic Soulslike experience — intense combat, memorable bosses, and rich, atmospheric dungeons. What I got instead was a glorified running simulator with the worst dungeon design I’ve ever seen in a video game. Let’s break it down: 🧭 **Dungeon Design? More Like Labyrinthine Headache** I spent more time running around in circles than actually fighting enemies. The level layout is so confusing and poorly thought out that I constantly found myself ending up in the **same area I just came from**, only from a different angle — as if someone twisted a maze and forgot to label the exit. Some sections are so large and **completely empty** that I genuinely wondered if I glitched into unfinished areas. Zero enemies, zero atmosphere, just giant hallways for no reason. Whoever designed these environments seriously needs to reconsider their career. ⚔️ **Combat: The Lone Shining Light… If You Can Reach It** Boss fights were decent, I’ll give the game that. But the journey to get to them? **An absolute joke.** You’ll have to run a **marathon-length trek** through those same confusing, enemy-scarce hallways just to get back to a boss if you die. No shortcuts, no reasonable respawn points — just a big ol' middle finger to your time and patience. 📦 **Item Descriptions? Nah, Figure It Out Yourself** You want to know what an item does? Too bad! *Mortal Shell* gives you **zero info** unless you use the item first — and once you waste it, well, that's just your loss. No forgiveness, no hints, just frustration. This isn't challenge; it's **bad design** dressed up as mystery. 🪖 **Shells Are Cool… Until You Try Upgrading** The Shell system — where you can possess different fallen warriors with their own strengths and weaknesses — is actually a **great idea**. It gives you flexibility and encourages experimenting with different playstyles. Unfortunately, the **skill upgrades are mostly trash**. You’ll waste precious resources unlocking garbage-tier perks that barely change anything. What’s the point of customization if it’s not worth the investment? ❌ **Final Verdict: Save Your Time, Save Your Sanity** I spent like $2 on this, and honestly, that feels like $1.50 too much. If you’re craving a Soulslike, **replay Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro**, or even other indies like *Lies of P* or *Nioh*. *Mortal Shell* is **not worth your time**, no matter how cheap it is. 🗣️ My Advice: **DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.** Save yourself the pain. Unless you want a walking simulator with a sprinkle of combat and a whole lot of bad design, steer clear.

Such a shame 😑 Mortal Shell has great combat and atmosphere, but it falls short in world design, pacing, and replayability. The final boss is very tedious, and NG+ offers nothing new beyond enemies hitting harder. Environments are repetitive, and exploration feels unrewarding. While the Harden mechanic adds uniqueness, the game never fully evolves its ideas. It’s a stylish and moody experience, but ultimately too shallow to stand alongside the games it tries to emulate. Worth trying, but not unforgettable.
