I'd love to recommend this, and I've thought hard about if I should review it at all. But at the end of the day it just isn't a game and the fact this is the 1.0 version out of early access seems to imply the dev is happy with it as it is which really isn't right. There is potential but its woefully light on content and gameplay right now. The premise is fantastic, play a huge godzilla like monster (well the head and hands of one anyway) and rampage around a city area smashing up buildings. But sadly that's where the gameplay stops, you just smash buildings for essentially no reason. There is a target level of destruction at which point you unlock the next of the available 5 levels. But beyond that nothing happens, nothing challenges you, you simply cannot fail. Even the planes that show up form level 2 onward to strafe you with machine gun fire don't actually do anything as you can't die, or even be hurt. As it stands its okay fun the first time through which will take 10-15 mins. After that there's almost nothing to bring you back. Early hopes of the game opening up and more depth and challenge being introduced give way to a realisation that it really isn't a game at all. Instead it's basically a toy lego town to play in. Maybe good for very young kids but for most this is going to be too shallow of an experience to hold your attention. Sadly its another seriously underdeveloped and shallow VR experience, something which is really letting down the incredible potential of VR at the moment and possibly one of the reasons why I'm being more harsh than I might otherwise be. But VR devs need to step up to the plate and make more compelling and engaging content or this amazing tech won't last. Anyway with a lot of work it could become amazing but it seems the dev is happy with it so that is unlikely. I hope I'm wrong about that. In the end I would of refunded, only it crashed on exit apparently and steam kept running the clock. So I'm stuck with it. No biggie as at least its quite cheap and I can hope that the dev might return to the project and add some game to this interesting idea.

This has a lot of potential. Right now it's _very_ early access, however depending upon what the developer adds, this could be a modern (VR!) take on Rampage which to me is an immensely satisfying thought. I'm very keen to see where this goes, and I'll be right here on the ride.

Pros - Me Smash!! - Me kill!! - Me destroy!! - Me feet make ground shake!! Cons - not enough, me need more levels! - me want to climb buildings! - me want to eat people! Fun game! I can't wait for more levels and more stuff.

The other negative reviews all say the same thing, and I pretty much agree. The levels aren't interesting, they don't feel like a real, cohesive world but like the same 3 models plopped over a small section of a canvas. The scale is accurate, but this doesn't work in its favor. Picture yourself bending down to pick up an action figure that a kid left on the middle of the living room floor. Now do it 50 times. That's the first level. I wanted so badly to be able to move, even if it was in big, lumbering kaiju steps, but you're stuck with the teleport and its really weird, long load times. Which could also, just maybe, be okay, but the items are placed so far apart that you can't beat up a block of houses. You have to teleport to one, wait for the"teleport load," touch it, watch it instantly crumble in a second, rinse, repeat. It's like when you're forced to watch a 15 second ad before a 5 second YouTube video--just a waste. It's definitely not a game, just a toy. But it's not even a fun toy.
Played On: HTC Vive
Fire Hose Games have both published and developed a small handful of successful games over the last five years. King Kaiju, one of their latest endeavors, sees the company broadening their catalogue with a second virtual reality release. As one might expect from the title, King Kaiju is a Godzilla simulator; you romp around a small town, destroy buildings, annihilate planes, kill and eat people, and breathe fire all over the place. There are a total of three levels, and each of them have their own objectives; kill 40 people, destroy 155 buildings, and cause $315,000 worth of property damage. The maps aren't very diverse, and in all honesty they all looked the same to me. The gameplay feels excruciatingly sluggish due to the slow fade out/in when using the teleport locomotion, and in some areas where the objects are spaced further apart it feels like it takes absolutely forever to destroy buildings. Catching and eating people is fun, as well as breathing fire all over the city; two things that the game doesn't exactly tell you how to accomplish. King Kaiju could benefit from a small opening tutorial. Until I delved into the forums I had no idea how to breathe fire (hold the two grip buttons), and I'm still not entirely sure how I'm supposed to grab the news chopper or the scoreboard helicopter. You can also apparently crush items by picking them up and pressing the grip buttons, another feature that I didn't know existed until I was out of VR. There's also a problem here with performance, and during the last level the game went completely blue and forced me to restart from Steam HomeVR. Enabling SSAO in the options screen also puts the game at abysmal framerates, and makes the screen-door effect 100x more noticable. I came to King Kaiju after playing VRobot, and I must say I was quite disappointed at the lack of content, tutorial, and slow-in-comparison gameplay. The pricetags between these titles are significant, however, and the fact that King Kaiju is only $5.49 CAD makes it much more palatable for the majority of gamers. It's not a bad game, but it's only 15-30 minutes of mediocre fun at best; you could probably tack on an additional half-hour if you're an achievement hunter. I wish there was a neutral option, but due to the performance issues I'll have to go with a downvote on this one.
Rating: 2.5/5.0 - It's not awful, but it's not great.
The VR Network Curator | Group Click for More

This is a fun VR demo, but not much more. It's entertaining to get to move around giant hands and destroy buildings and swat planes out of the sky for about 20 minutes, but after that, there's not enough to the game to be entertaining. You can't die, and doing damage (the goal of every 'level') becomes repetitive. It's cool, pick it up for a buck maybe? But I'm not gonna recommend it as a game.

Easy recommend at the current sale price of $2.99. Mindless metropolitan destruction. Swat planes. Goals? Teleport and wave hands around like a madman, err, I mean Kaiju. Rating 6/10 - No longer have to go to Anger Management classes

It's not entirely a game. You play an unbeatable monster. However, it's fun and really immersive. There's something about attacking a city while tiny airplanes dive in at you that makes you forget about everything else. This game ends up being more threatening to my walls and furniture than any other because you kind of get lost in the rampant destruction. I wish the game had been more forward about how to use the breath weapon. You grab both triggers on the Vive to breathe fire (or shoot lasers if you picked the giant cat). Also, I don't know that this game will pull me in forever, but for what I've paid for it, I got tons of enjoyment.

Okay... I'm going to be upfront. This game was a silly bit of fun, though I'm not sure it's worth £4. I got it in a bundle with a few other games for about £5 and at that price point, it's fan-goddamn-tastic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqK5wS1a-AY The destruction, the freedom, the ability to pick up and throw/smash/eat anything you want is great. I took a great amount of pride in realising you could smash the helicopter containing your scoreboard out of the sky. There just isn't all that much to the game. You teleport, you pick up, you throw, you punch, you breath fire. That's about it. Okay, there's a hidden kitty mode that gives you laser eyes and cat sounds but that's the only real appreciable difference. Throughout you'll be listening to the same ice-cream truck song and getting shot in the face by these annoying gnats of planes, you'll hear the same teleport sound each time and you'll be tasked with assignments like "Smash 250 buildings."On that front, there's really not a whole hell of a lot to do. The 4 levels are all just various sizes of city with the last offering buildings the same as you to flat out run through (provided your playspace is big enough, there's no artificial locomotion here) but they're still most indistinguisable. However... that doesn't mean, by ANY stretch of the imagination that this is not something I'd reccomend. I whole-heartedly do. While it may not have much "game" to it, what it does have is one of the best stress relief setups in all of VR gaming. There's something massively cathartic about throwing a police car into a helicopter, watching them both fall out of the sky in to a building which then topples over and crushes a crowd of pedestrians, the survivors of whom you then fry up with your TOTALLY-NOT-A-RIP-OFF-OF-ATOMIC-BREATH™. THAT'S where the fun lies in this game. After a hard day you'll REALLY enjoy just dropping yourself off in a city, bending it over, and making it your bitch. :D

I really want to give this game a positive review. As a concept it's a fantastic idea, but this game has poor execution. Here is a breakdown of the Pros and Cons: Pros: The concept - You're a Kaiju, you're big, and you get to smash building, cars, and people. Scoring - High score creates some re-playability. Art - I enjoy the design of the worlds. Cons: Limited world scale - The world is fairly small and limited to a simple objective each level. Few challenges - There is very little in the way of diverse objectives. The music - When I play a game as a Kaiju, I expect the music to be epic, like a Toho production, reflective of the scale of my character and the events occurring, instead we get a looped rendition of "Mary had a little Lamb" that gets grating very quickly. Interactivity - Yes, you can smash buildings, people, and objects in the world, but I constantly found myself wanting to throw things, however I could never seem to pick anything up. I noticed this right at the very beginning and it became immediately frustrating, especially when I was being attacked by planes. Also, equally important, I was constantly hunched over attempting to smash buildings. I found it was *much* easier to sit on the floor rather than stand playing this. Not comfortable for more than a few minutes. Controls - I would like to be able to alter the controls from teleport to walking with control stick. As a Kaiju it's way more interesting to stomp through a city. Teleporting takes me out of the experience. Overall, I'm sad this isn't better. I love the idea and would love to engage in some epic Kaiju battles, but I don't see myself returning to King Kaiju.

This game can be a ton of fun, but I can't recommend it in the current state for a few reasons: -Your monster is too large. While it is cool to be towering over the city, I would find it more rewarding to smash a building that is as big as me, not just up to my knees. -The loading screen is in instant source of motion sickness, there is text spinning in circles around you. -The ice cream trucks are too loud. I know this seems silly, but every person I've put in this game made a statement about how obnoxious it was. It really does punish you for wanting to take you time and play around if you have to keep listening to loud and shrill versions of "Mary had a little lamb", and "Ride of the valkyries". Just let us turn this off. So if the devs disable icecream trucks (Or allow use to disable them), and rescale your monster (Or allow you to choose your monsters scale) I would instantly suggest this game, but I find those points really devaluing the experience. Also, I will be very excited to play this when a foot tracking solution is implemented .

It's the most fun I've had in VR. The gameplay is simple, but fun. You are a giant monster and must cause mayhem in the city. Smash buildings, eat people, throw cars and helicopters. It's a short game with only four missions, but for the price, it's worth it. I rather enjoyed picking people up and throwing them at planes and helicopters. Hopefully they add more missions and maps, but for now, I just keep replaying what's there. It's a wonderfully chaotic game.

There's very little there, got bored very quickly. And even if it was more enjoyable the one gimmic of the game is greatly haltered by the fact that the physics are extremely wonky, taking away the one place satisfaction could potentially be found in this game. Also hasn't been updated in many months so it doesn't seem like any of its issues are going to be addressed. Save your money.

If you'd ever wondered what it would be like to be Godzilla then wonder no longer. This game is a fun little stress reliever where you can just go around and destroy whatever you like. The only con about this game is that it gets repetitive after a few minutes. It would've been nice if there was some sort of armed force fighting back against you. Maybe that would've made the game more fun. Would like to see that in future patches.

Fun premise but severely lacking content. You can beat all four levels in around 30 minutes and they offer zero replay value. There's few fun interactions in game, eating people, crushing buildings, throwing trees, but overall most things just explode when you touch them. The controls for breathing fire or shooting lasers was difficult to activate and felt like I was missing some sort of recharge bar or other mechanic. I can't recommend this game and judging by its "full release" I don't think it will improve.

You play as a Kaiju "Godzilla" and destroy a bunch of towns, each have a certain objective to complete it, like Game is very simplistic you move by teleporting, you destroy by hitting, you eat by putting things close to your mouth. Performance is very good, as all games with basic, low polygon cartoon graphics like this should have. It also has this "helicopter view" so others can see your havok as if a news copter was reporting it... pretty cool when showing it off in a party. Game is family friendly, my kid loves this game, and i have to say i also enjoy the random sensless destruction lol. Pretty fun game, but its also really simple with simple mechanics, so not "deep", but fun.

Fun, but short. It should be noted that on some controllers, grabbing is counter-intuitive and only works if the trigger does not click, otherwise it instantly crushes anything that's to be held. It would be much better if other locomotion methods were added, since teleportation is very restrictive in this game. In any case, I was hungry, so I ate the entire city! Very simple but fun, who doesn't want to be a giant monster rampaging through a city? Don't expect a ton out of this, just enjoy it for it's simplicity and have fun. It really does need 360 degree, I only have the two Oculus rift sensors, and I can get by, but I can really tell that if I had full 360 degree support that it would make a big difference as movement is a bit more difficult.

Not a super amount of content but it was a fun little game but make sure you have good space. It's VERY easy to get carried away and forget where you are in relation to your boundries. Highly recommened if you're looking for a game to help others experience your VR set. I played it on the Vive and even though I bought during the Summer Sale, I would have still paid the full 5.99.

This is a cool concept that's been hampered by some poor design decisions. It ought to have been awesome to stomp through and destroy a town, but instead you end up painfully bent over waving your hands frantically at nothing. The look of the game is nice and the feel of smashing things is satisfying but it's hard to enjoy. -You ought to be able to play this game standing, but instead the structures are at knee-height. It calls attention to the fact you wish you had feet rather than gracefully designing around it. I ended up sitting on the floor. -You get punished for teleporting with an annoying fade to black, so you don't want to do it, but you constantly have to. -You can kind of pick things up and throw them, but they don't do any damage to other structures. You want to be able to smash a house with an ice cream truck, but you can't. -The objectives of the level float oddly out of your line of sight, so you aren't really aware that you're supposed to be doing something besides smashing as much as possible (why would you want to do anything else anyway?) -The screaming humans become disturbing after a while. The game is cheap and has some interesting things about it but I'm still waiting for a good godzilla experience.

Here is my firstime gameplay video: https://youtu.be/1XHqVrmcTaE I also review other VR games on my channel: www.youtube.com/c/thefishstick I've been waiting for a game like this to come out for VR! This game is very simple right now with a pretty basic theme which is walk around and smash stuff. It's inexpensive and has a ton of potential! I've always loved games where you're a giant monster and the goal is to smash as much stuff as possible! As far as performance issues I noticed a bit of frame lag and also lost the ability to grab object 2 or 3 times in the 20 minutes of gameplay I did. When that happens I noticed the menu buttons will not allow you to restart and you have to force the game to close. THIS GAME WOULD BE INCREDIBLE WITH A LOCOMOTION MOVEMENT SYSTEM!! That would kind of give you the ability to destroy and crush stuff using your feet as you walk over stuff. There needs to be little civilians and maybe police/military peoples running around the city as you destroy it that you can pick up and eat. Maybe little news and military copters scooting around in the air that you can swat at. Maybe take it even as far as having 3on1 co op where 3 players are the military dudes in a similar view as the Out of Ammo first person view and one is the monster fighting eachother. Or just co op where everyone is a monster running around breaking stuff. It would be neat to be able to roar and blow fire with the grip buttons on the controller. I recommend this game because it's cheap and fun and has a lot of potential; I cannot wait to see what stuff the devs add in the future for this! Great Job!!

It's not the godzilla experience we really want, but its kind of like a concept demo for some things it would take to make a game like that really good. I don't regret buying this for 3.29. A very short godzilla simulator style game. Its amusing for what it is. For the $2.50 it was on sale for its hard pressed to find another vr game that runs this smoothly without any bugs or glitches. Played it on a vive, ran perfectly, graphics looked great. My only complaint was you spend almost your entire gameplay spent hunched over so you can reach down and destroy the buildings or grab people/ cars but to be fair, If you were as tall as godzilla you would have to do that too.

Love is forcing a human through a chainlink fence. It's a VR version of the old Nintendo game, Rampage, except you can't be killed as of v1.01. I would be lying to say that this game didn't let me explore my cathartic instincts for destruction, so for me it is pretty enjoyable. There are some physics tweaks that need to be done, for example, large chunks of buildings should have more weight when they are thrown. When they get so far they act as if they are made out of styrofoam and will likely fall short of the thing you are trying to smash.

I think this is a fun game for young VR players but if you're an adult you may want to look elsewhere. Consider it a Godzilla simulator and you'll understand what you're playing. The problem is there isn't really any challenge as you seem indestructible but that somewhat takes away from the game. i wish they would have included a much more challenging mode. Also objectives are virtually the same for every mission so it just gets repetitive quickly. It's a neat idea to make a Rampage game in VR (there oddly enough is a free Rampage game in VR that is better IMO) but this effort while high in quality just fails to keep my interest.

Great! Or, well, it would be with just a little more work! The details i nthis game are great, and it was made with alot of love, I can tell, but I really hope they add building collision. It's not as fun to destroy buildings when cars, trees and whatever else just bounces off of them harmlessly, ya know? Id buy this as a full 60 dollar release if they put more work into it and made it a full fledged game. Right now it's kind of like an extended demo

Oh ho ho, this is wonderful. I dare say therapeutic.I found myself laughing like a maniac as I smashed buildings, knocked planes out of the sky and threw people across a city to explode against whatever surface they happen to hit. While technically speaking, this is a short game, I am definitely going to come back to this over and over again. Hopefully additional content is added in the future, however. I'd love to shoot fire from my mouth, laser beams from my eyes or other powers. Perhaps some tanks could roll in to blast you... Jets dropping nukes? As fun as being invulnerable is, I wouldn't be opposed to a mode where you can take damage. And of course, it would be awesome if there were a monster for you to fight. Fingers crossed. Until then, I am more than content to cause untold destruction with my fists and face. Especially for 2 bucks. (I got it on sale.)

I got this for a friend to try on my system and it is pretty cool. Smashing stuff feels fun, although I wish there were a way to stomp on buildings and cars too. The graphics are good for what they are. You mainly can only punch and grab stuff, no fire or laser breath. If there's one complaint I have, it's the ICE CREAM TRUCKS. Man that is so annoying to hear them repeatedly squealing over the background music. Kill one, another one spawns. Otherwise, it's a fairly quick and fun game if you just want to destroy buildings.

It is rather blatant: you play as a kaiju that goes around smashing stuffs. There are buildings, aerial vehicles, trees, vehicles, people that you can smash around with your monster hand, you can execute a fire breath to destroy them. There are about 4-5 levels, and the last is a sandbox mode where you can smash stuffs with no objectives. You can even play as a giant cat with paws and lasers eyes too. This game has got a large potential, but unfortunately it seems there won't be any future update (such as more characters, climbing buildings, more vehicle varieties, more environments and buildings like bridge etc or leg stomping with the Vive trackers). This title is not just entertainment for kids but adults too, and is a great title that is play in short burst in between longer games. But beware you really need sufficient spaces to play this game. Destroying buildings as a kaiju in VR is rather satisfying.

This game is a lot of fun! It does what it says on the tin and lets you destroy buildings with all your monstrous rage. I agree with other reviews that some upgrades like fire breath would be great and support for the new vive tracking pucks for my feet would also be ideal. But those are not criticisms, they are wants for a game that’s already solid. Get this game. Whatever you are saving that five dollars for isn't as cool as this.

Short Review: Get's very boring very quick, very short game, but somewhat fun, still recommend. Full Review: I bought this game very soon after it was released and was hooked instantly. If you are a very angry person I suggest you buy this game. However, if you are not a normally angry person, I warn you that in a very short amount of time the game get's repetitive. Also, I figured out a very fun control by the time the game was almost finished which is if you hold both grips then you breath fire, and that is cool, BUT I never saw instructions telling you to do that so... that needs to be added. I also like and don't like the fact that they have a news camera feed for people watching you play the game. But overall, I still had quite a bit of fun and this is saying a lot since there are really not a lot of fun games for vr right now. Finished the game in 30 minutes What's good?: -Bright and Fun graphics -Simple to play -Makes you want to act like a giant monster What's bad? -Not long enough -Some controls you have to figure out yourself -Gets boring quick

Very fun little game. 30 Minutes of playtime is about what it took to beat this game, but it is a surprisingly fun game to just mess around in. You dont play this game for story, or objective or anything other then its awesome to stomp around as a big monster messing crap up. Remember playing GTA and just screwing around for hours killing folks? Well imagine that, but as Godzilla. (King Kajui). Very well polished, fun and cool art style, runs great performance wise. Things this game has. Want to stomp people? Check. Want to crush tiny humans with your hands? Check Want to eat them? Check. Want to backhand annoying fighter planes out of the sky? Check. Want to rip the top of a building off and chuck it into a row of skyscrapers causing a chain reaction of destruction? Check. Want to pick up an icecream truck, chuck it at a helicopter, grab the helicopter while it is falling and use it as a club to smash people and buildings to bits? Check. There are 4 levels with objectives, but tbh, once you get to the last level, its just a sandbox. Very much reminded me of the old arcade or NES game rampage. I hope they add more, but for $5 ($4 on sale as of this post) you cannot go wrong IMO. And remember! In case of urge to kill humans, SMASH EGG!

This is a game that started with one playable character, one city, and no objectives. This is slowy changing and now there's a little more to do. It's a little bit of a gamble, but I love what they're doing here and think the $5 is worth the satisfaction of breaking crap. If you'd rather wait, there are demos for similar experiences. But I'm willing to bet you'll ultimately get more content for less money in the long run here.

Who DOESN'T want to become a giant monster and terrorize a city? Good, clean, violent fun! Simple, clean graphics, I like the spectator view (news chopper.) No plot or complex game-play elements to get in the way. The fire breath was a fun addition, and I look forward to seeing what else the developer might add!

Oh man! This game is great! It was fun immediately! Eating people, smashing buildings throwing, throwing cars, what's not to love!? Simple, but so freaking fun. Would love to see a few things added- one would be a full kaiju body for the viewers. Another would be an option (maybe I missed it, just played really fast and only about 30 mintues) to choose which view the watchers get (more for recording/game play capture purposes). Oh and breathing fire would be awesome. Maybe make it a power up thing where if you eat a certain number of people you'll build up your fire breathing ability and can use it for a certain amount or time. That would be fantastic. Keep up the good work!

Only played around a bit, but already recommend to anyone who's keen on this type of game experience & wants to support the dev (/early access). Graphics - Nicely done. Cartoony feel fits well. No major glitches/ugliness. Sound - Again, fitting & no major glitches. Fun grabbing/smashing/throwing stuff around. Just cool concept & so far well executed for EA. Saw recent updates, so dev is making progress w/some cool changes & improvements. Even just for a quick "demo experience" to drop family/friends into - different than your typical wave shooter/high-action or very limited (stand & watch) *experience*. With more content (people just added, great start) in the environment & improvments/additions to graphics/models... & then perhaps some more "game modes" (timed rounds, destroy X in Y time? destroy X but save/avoid Y? destroy while avoiding being attacked - planes/tanks/rockets?) ... lots of potential. Looking forward to jumping in & trying out the updates posted today. TL;DR Already fun. LOTS of potential. Bargain cup-of-coffee price. Quick to jump-in (/demo) something different in VR.
