I really liked this game at first. I could easily give it 4/5 stars for story, mechanics and artwork. The way this dev team handled PvP in the early stage gave non-pvpers a fair and honest way to progress their characters in the face of otherwise oppressive odds. Until we got to the top tier where the door was slammed irrevocably in our faces. At the final tier of progression quests and gear are locked behind pvp.
I'm tired of this kind of hierarchical game design which overwhelmingly favors pvp. PvP is an excuse for really bad, anti social behavior. And when progression is locked behind a pvp wall then those who can pvp opt for the laziest of all gameplay: the stalking and destruction of fellow players with far less gear, stats and skills than themselves.
I won't be cannon fodder. I have uninstalled this game and i won't be recommending it.

ABANDONED, dont waste your money, if you want a space crafting game thats similar to ark play empyrion galactic survival, that game is class, you get to build your own ships, build bases, hover crafts, and explore a galaxy and it has single player or you can play online with pvp or pve, you also have quests and the modding community has created tehir own quests/missions, back to this game, it had so much potential but these days devs want to make a bit of money and then just cash out, there should be a law with these abandoned games, give us our money back or half of it, or let other devs complete the game, getting sick of this genre of games now though, its like devs always abandon these types and these open world survival are my favourite type, so hard to get one that suits me now haha i will not recommend it until it gets picked back up, because its actually a good game but when it only has online only, it is a fail, at last finish and add a single player mode and make the map bigger, cus its rather small

Update: I had to change my review to NOT RECOMMENDED. Because of the horrible PVP snow area which you cannot change to PVE even on your own private "PVE" server. This is just plain ridiculous. No PVE players like the snow area because it's PVP even on a private "PVE" server, and there's absolutely no way to change it. So I cannot recommend the game because of this. I am a PVE player. I have no interest at all in PVP games. The PVE mode even on your own personal private server is fake PVE. A bad trick from the developers. Once PVE players advance to the snow area, they are forced into PVP and end up hating the game.
Here's my previous review before I found out that I cannot change the snow area to PVE even on my own private server:
I absolutely love this game.
This game is similar to Ark Survival, Conan Exiles, Stranded Deep, Subnautica, and No Man's Sky. If you like those games, you will probably like Memories of Mars. I rate it 5 stars, same as the others mentioned.
I found this game originally on the PS4 and got addicted to it. Was playing everyday for several weeks. I decided to buy it again for the PC because there's more options available to the player (graphics settings, controller options, private local server add on, keyboard & mouse support, etc).
I've already put about 500 hours into the PS4 version, and just started using the PC version a short while ago.
The PC version is almost identical to the PS4 version. There are however many more options available. But while playing, it's very hard to tell the difference between the 2 platforms.
I am currently running my own free Memories of Mars local server on my PC. I set it to 100% PVE, and I am admin, so I can be God essentially in the game on the PC if I like, something that's not possible on the PS4 without renting an expensive server.
I love the AI combat with the robots. Very cool. Very well done.
The graphics are fantastic. So much detail was put into the graphics. Wow!
I love building in this game. The building mechanics in this game are by far the best I've ever seen in any game. And there are no bugs with the building mechanics. It's rock solid. It's so easy to build in this game. You see a hologram of the walls, doors, windows, etc., before you commit to building them. This means you can change designs, without losing any resources. Once you're satisfied with the hologram, you can start building it. Fantastic. The way they implemented the building mechanics is so natural. It's a breeze. No other game I know of is this easy to build in. I absolutely love it. If you're into building as much as I am, you will love the building mechanics. The game could use some more building components though, such as chairs, beds, tables, etc. Conan Exiles, has way more building components than Memories of Mars has, but building in Conan is a little buggy, and a bit difficult compared to Memories of Mars.
The game music is so so. I usually turn off the music.
The sound effects are fantastic. Very well done.
There are 2 things however that I don't like about the game, but it's still a 5 star game.
First off, there is no offline single player mode. All the other games I have in this genre offer an offline single player mode. However, there is a free local server you can install as an add on to the game, so technically you can play offline single player if you install your own private local server. This is what I do now. I almost never play on any of the official servers anymore. And the reason for that is in my next gripe about the game.
The next HUGE thing I don't like is related to the official servers. They are an ungodly mix of PVE and PVP unfortunately. This is a total mess. This is probably the single biggest negative of the game. In general, the PVE players hate the PVP areas of the game (the snow area and the random flop event areas), and the PVP players hate the PVE sections, thinking it's boring because they can't attack people there. PVE and PVP players, in general, do not get along. Why in the world did the developers mix the two? This is total absolute insanity in my opinion. They should offer 100% PVE official servers and 100% PVP official servers. They should not mix the two! If you look at the reviews you can see a lot of people upset about this.
That being said, I don't have the issue with the official servers now, since I run my own free private server. With that option, I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THE GAME.
This is currently my favorite game. I highly recommend this game!

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!
No matter how tempted you are, no matter how much you think the good reviews might mean it's ok, IT'S NOT.
The devs have abandoned it. There is noone on the servers. You can't save your progress. You can't even pause your progress. Absolutely atrocious that Steam still has this on their store.
DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!

Good game up till you need to go and get materials for your suit in pvp area and get all your stuff taken by other players. Done with another game too bad games can't figure out we don't play to have all our hard work stolen buy other players.

I personally love this game. The look and feel is what I want. However, there are some issues with this game:
Great:
Look and feel
Price
Base building mechanics
Character animation
Different types of servers (Private,PVE,PVP)
Potential for improvement:
Bigger map and new locations, the actual locations bores everyone quickly
More slots and flops for the next season, starting all over again is...
Cars, we don't want to walk for hours
Random blueprints (hate it)
A few bugs
Note: I'm playing this game from the beginning and can tell you, it was buggy as hell in the beginning, but the devs fixed a lot!
Hope, that game will not die.

Awesome game.
I've played MoM for about 11hrs now. It's got a little bit of a learning curve (Once you find out your 3d printer is everything, you'll be alright), but a friend and I were able to get some awesome times going.
The Good:
-Graphics are cool
-Concept is amazing
-AI is very diverse
-Many cool little features/ quirks which I was suprised to see in an indie early access game for example, a skilltree system, hidden stashes, and very in depth crafting.
-For an early access game, the bugs are minimal
-Lots of fun!
The Bad:
-The game is a little grindy. Using the currency FLOPS, you must be able to research everything, and keep your base upkeep going.
-At first, food is scarce. Until you start looting more, you're dying from starvation constantly
-Although the bugs are minimal, they're still there.
-Gunplay could use some serious work. Half the time you hit your slot key, and pull out your 3d printer, or aim and your gun model dissapears.
-Current disconnect system could use work. Although combat logging is no longer possible, people can avoid pvp entirely by dc'ing as soon as someone comes over the horizon. This is very frustrating, especially at the events where pvp is encouraged.
Of course, this is just week one (Of early access no less). I expect most of these issues will be fixed within the coming weeks.
Overall, despite the negatives, I highly recommend you give this game a try. As a fan of the survival genre, this new experience is exactly what I needed.

So I got the game for me and my cousin to spend some "together time" in a game that reminded us of a singleplayer only game that we both love - SUBNAUTICA, and found myself in a space RUST. I got raided on a PVE server.
So I know the game is in early accsess and I know the game has no storry yet (or ever will) but that is not wat i got the game for. I got it for the exploration and grinding of a survivel with the hopes to have the chance to invite someone else in my otherwise lifeless world.
As a conclusion: The game looks very good and very promising at this stage, and I just hope the devs will not forget about the people who do not want to play a game with the whole world, but with a friend or two, and no one else to spoil it.

Firstly, let me point out that this commentery only applies to the single player experience. I have weird hours, and I live in Australia, so I have a choice between no-one to team up with or truly rubbish play. So...
Pros:
- It looks fabulous. Up-close boulder textures are a bit iffy, but that's about the worst thing I have to say about the graphics.
- It really does feel desolate and lonely for the single player - which is perfect considering the setting.
- Those freakin' spider drones' AI is sneaky and vindictive. I had one run away from me, circle around the building and jump me from behind. Also, being small and low profile, they will often escape your notice untilthey start attacking.
Cons:
- The amount of grind required is ridiculous. I can't speak to the higher ranks because I invariably got killed before being able to afford even the second tier of just one advancement path, but in the early game you will spend almost every moment trying to avoid starvation and/or asphyxia.
- When you die (not if), all your stuff stays where you fell - which seems pretty reasonable to me. My issue is that you respawn with just a 3D printer and whatever you managed to learn last life - and depleted food an oxygen. If it wasn't hard enough first time around...
- If you do manage to make it long enough to build some sort of structure, keeping it will break you. FLOPs are hard enough to come by as a solo player, and maintenance on your building is in FLOPs - so anything bigger than a shoebox means you will never learn anything again. (Yes, there are FLOP events. I didn't manage to make it to the door for spiders, worms, and cloaked somethings. More gun-hands would help, but a solo is toast.)
I like the look and feel of this game, and I love the premise. At this point though, for me, it's more of an exercise in frustration and tedium than a source of fun.

Graphics, sound, music were all good. Not great, but pretty good.
You farm flops, grinding them out either by killing mobs, standing in the beam areas, or finding them in crates. It's fairly easy to get hundreds, even thousands, just takes time. The object of flops is to be spent on either skills or base upkeep.
1. I understand what a FLOP is, but I just can't get over the stupidity of the name.
2. I crafted the gun, killed a mantis invis, fell to my death, never got the achievements.
3. I would get the flops for a skill, then realize I couldn't make the machine. Got the flops for the skill to make the machine, couldn't make it because I didn't have the machine to make the parts for the machine I just learned. Gathered more flops to learn that machine, then started farming ingredients while farming flops.
4. Realized, after raiding a few bases, the end goal is to raid bases. But, why raid bases when you can just get the stuff at known locations easily. And raiding bases, though enjoyable, never netted anything more than some schematics that I had gotten from crates.
(edit) 5. I picked up both of the +flop gain skills, never saw an increase in flops. Still getting as low as 10 from boxes, and 8 on the low end from killing baddies.
The only PvP would be to troll people, because there's no actual "need" to break into someone else's base. The only real valuable thing are flops, and you'll so rarely find a base that someone has stored flops in a container, you'll actually spend more time looking and breaking into bases, than if you'd have just run around gathering stuff.
It seems to me that it's just pointless to break into bases, and it gets tedious spending 3800 flops for 1 skill, only to look and see you need about another 30,000 to get top end stuff. Oh, and if you keep your base loaded up with all the machinery, that'll eat through your flop balance FAST. So Just keep everything boxed up in materials, bring it out, use it, break it back down.
Anyway, the only people I would really recommend this game to, are ones that just want to break into bases so people log in and are frustrated that their base got levelled, even though they had nothing of value.

Game is officially being buried long after it died. They couldn't even just leave it trucking so people could eventually crack it, mod it, and make it something good. They couldn't even let private servers still exist. The devs literally said "thanks for the money, go fuck yourselves".
I will never not be mad about this injustice.

I want to recommend this game, but because of their original price, I simply cannot. This game is not worth $29.99 because everything in it is generic.
I do enjoy the game, but to be honest, it doesn't do anything new. There's nothing innovative about it. Someone took the survival genre, created a tiny map (it's not even the whole planet - just a VERY VERY small space), slapped generic graphics on it, slapped a big price tag on it and crossed their fingers.
Everything respawns in like 20 minutes so you basically just go from your base to the same exact "town" (if you can even call it that...) to loot the same exact things ad nauseam.
But, it is still fun to play - just not worth $29.99 by ANY stretch of the imagination. Luckily, I purchased it for $9.99 on sale and that's a fair price for this game, imo.
I don't think 505 will be able to get the developers to add much to this game, sadly. I feel like 505 is only publishing this title as a favor-of-sorts to the developer. Maybe there's another game the devs are working on until then - perhaps they are friends. Who knows, but I don't see this game making it anywhere, which is yet another reason I can't recommend.
But again - it is still somewhat amusing to play. I did find myself wanting to play it, but that's most likely ONLY because I'm a glutton for survival/grind games.
Anyway, those are my three cents.

Played a few hours and love it. i only play on an official PVE server and cannot report any bugs so far. Rust on Mars what's not to like? well, maybe an offline single player, or coop version...
OK after 200 hours:
I love the game. first game i have gotten all the achievements.
bugs- sometimes you get locked out of your doors and storage, just rejoin the server;
if 2 players of the same clan do the missions, markers disappear after the first player
takes the intel, just meet at the intel and take it together;
very rarely bugs get stuck inside rock walls, relog fixes it;
sometimes enemies get stuck and don't move but still fire, run up and bash them;
I would say that is not bad at ll for an early alpha game. i have played full releases that were more bugged.
Great game. Recommended

TO THE DEVS: I love this game but there are a few things we'd like to see that would probably bring in more players
-We want ways to make air inside of our bases even if it's just making the portable cans or a copy-paste of the aid node things that are like a top level schematic or something
- We want plants. Decorative plants that you can harvest plant parts from. We want our bases to be less gloomy.
-We want (very weak and limited numbers of) AIs to guard our bases even if they are super expensive to make and not really worth it.
TO THE POTENTIAL PLAYERS:
If you like survival and sci fi you'll like this game. It lacks a little polish but the building and crafting system is pretty cool and the "main quest" is challenging and fun

This game is a struggle in the beginning for a big reason. Like hard core survival you have to figure it out on your own, no tutorial no guide, just learn as you go. Good new is everything is replaceable with your trusty mobile printer that spawns every time you die. AND the community had made plenty of wiki, YT videos and such to help out anyone needing just a bit more to help them get going.
Flops are a Life. Living in the middle of nowhere can save your base from raiders but means farming is rough. Build smart, build tight and your can maximize the benefit of your base and get everything into a base that takes minimal about of flops and make farming as a solo easier.
Farming flops in different settlements means different types of enemies so you can work slowly through them finding the ones you can handle and farm an average of 600-1000 flops a location if you are through. Yes it takes a bit of ammo and time but using your self-healing over time is a life saver. Rushing this is not the way to go.
The skill tree(s) can be intimidated but it will be interesting to see the changes based on the feedback the devs are listening to from the first season. You have to plan smart as a solo, or specialize in a clan, because getting everything is not likely. Survival Points on your Survivalist tree can make or break you at times as the increased carry and reduced bleed make life so much easier.
Servers run low pop right now but hopefully that will pick up as more people find the game and the seasons progress.
Obviously there are still issues but non I have encountered have been game breaking, or hair-pulling for me, little glitches with guns, spawns, etc. all which the Devs acknowledge and are working on. They are willing to rollback patches if they break things or make it unplayable for people, or consider peoples feedback and make changes based on them.
Overall this games has replaced my love of Rust with something with a more communicative Dev team, an deep lore (which we get to be more directly exposed to next season), a changing map, and a story reason for wipes instead of just randomness.

Well, the first missions are locked behind pvp progression, if someone loot something you need you will have to wait for it to respawn, wich will force you to stay beyond the refound time, low trick from the devs I will not even bother to continue to play it.

First let me say this is Early Access. There will be bugs that happen, some disconnects or other issues! The developers state this, its clearly stated in almost every update the developer posts. Now with that said... I've played over 50 hours From Closed Beta 2, until now. During Closed Beta 2 there were major issues regarding walking through doors, to disappearing doors / storage lockers in your own base. These were the most annoying issues, that have since been fixed within a very short period.
The developers are very active in their Discord! They offer constant help and take feedback very seriously! This has been the first time I've seen this type of activity! They truly care about their game and want their project to succeed! This will only happen from the constant feedback we are giving them!
Is this game worth the price? This is a question I get constantly when I stream. Yes this is a game I have purchased and recommend to others! Keep in mind that this is a survival game with PVPVE. This means you not only have to fight the environment to survive, you have to fight mechanical monsters, and other players. Most people that I've encountered are shoot first ask questions later (which I myself have adopted). If you run anywhere near me holding a weapon, you are a hostile and will be shot! This makes the game a little unforgiving to new players that have no idea on how the game works. Look at joining a community that can help you get on your feet and understand the game! Playing Solo in this game is possible, yet very difficult.
This game is set on Mars, yet has gravity on Earth. This in my opinion is my largest immersion breaker here. I'm unaware if they will continue to use Earth gravity, or if they have plans to change the physics within the game at this point. There are plenty of other things that take priority in my opinion so this doesn't kill my enjoyment, just simply breaks my immersion.
Feel free to drop by my Twitch stream if you have any questions regarding this game. I'll do my best to help you out!

When I first saw this game it looked perfect, something to satisfy a craving for a new genre of game I wanted to explore, but after a few hours online that idea changed. Playing solo is a far from captivating expirience, almost all of your time is spent grinding with little in return. This makes it hard to get a good feel for mechanics and other things the game has to offer and after 20 or so hours sunk into the game I realized that my progress wasn't going anywhere soon. Your expirience may be improved when playing with others but im not sure if that would be enough to eliminate the other factors holding the game from its possibilities. Memories of Mars shows potential but has many things to overcome prior to reaching it. For this reason I would not recomend Memories of Mars in its current state.

I have about 6 hours of gameplay as of this review.
This game has been fun so far. The only downside is when you get murdered by another player and lose everything. My suggestion against such a thing is making succinct trips to your destination(s) and then right back to your base to deposit your goods. There is certainly quite a learning curve but once things start to click it all falls into place pretty nicely.
concerning network: The worst lag I've had was occasional 1-2ft rubberbands from time to time but about 90% of the time I felt virtually no lag, thankfully.
Here's a few tips if you're thinking about starting:
1) Try not to run into other players
2) Get some ore from off the ground (trust me, you'll see it).
3) Set your yellow box down on the ground (3d printer).
4) Tell it to make you bullets.
5) Remind yourself these bullets are incredibly basic and suck but get the job done, eventually.
6) Kill some spiders, but don't get too cocky. They will murder you if you charge a group.
7) Check out the skilltree; buy and build basic foundation / wall / ceiling
8) Buy and build a maintenance device (keeps base alive with FLOPS) and cloning facility (respawn)
9) Note Areas of Interest (crash sites, craters, dead NPCs, etc.) These places have loot that refresh over time.
10) Do everything else & have fun.
*Edit:
1) Just realized I said foundation, wall and floor. Changed it to foundation, wall and ceiling.
2) Twice the time in since the initial review and I'm still having a good time. I have experienced some more lag during a particular day but it was not game breaking and has only happened once to me. Actually ran into some people that didn't kill on sight (it was a mixture of me giving my position away in a painfully obvious way: holding the 3d printer, waving my hands excitedly and yelling "I WILL NOT SHOOT YOU" over the comms). Works 90% of the time, every time.

I hate giving a thumbs down to steam games but I need to on this one. The game starts well with the usual survival stuff - waking up and then trying to figure out what went wrong - all the people are dead and robot spiders have taken over. You progress normally building a base, gathering resources, crafting better stuff and moving the story line forward. The real problem comes as you get closer to the end and the progress just becomes glacially slow. I'm about 80% through now and the gameplay is 90% pain and 10% satisfaction. There is no transport, no fast travel and bases can't be relocated. Hence there is a lot of shift-w running all over the map again and again to get resources and the elusive end game guns and armor. To even get access to that end game gear, you need schematics which are randomly available at 3 reactor sites distributed over the map. You have to hit the reactors over and over hoping that a required schematic appears. Once you do find the schematic, its costs a fortune to buy. Then you find out that crafting it requires a resource that's almost impossible to obtain unless you are at the end game. Its all just too frustrating and repetitive. Sorry Mars - Elon can have you. I'm done.

I only recommend this game if you are able to purchase it cheap do to the company no longer supporting it.
The game has a lot of potential if the devs still supported it and made more content for it or at least adding the ability to create mods/maps for the game.
I purchased this game for $5.00 during a sale, played the game for a few hours only to learn that it's a abandoned project.
This game gets a thumbs down do to Steam/Devs not displaying a noticed on the store page they no longer support the game and it will no longer receive updates/fixes.
After taking into account the above information, the game itself is actually fun/relaxing considering what it does offer. I still play this game whenever I just want to casually play a game to relax.
Update 6/2/24
I am disappointed to hear that the official servers are shutting down and the only way to play the game is through a unofficial server.

Excellent game, well worth the full price or if it’s on special don’t think twice buy it!
If you like Survival, Building games with a Sci-fi theme, this is an easy choice for you, I have played it for about 9 hours straight and only stopped because of a server restart.
I would like to point out a few things:
*Servers are pretty empty, so it’s mostly single player, unless you got friends to join you, It does have a nice story to follow if you are solo.
*The map is Mars so don’t expect anything fancy, but what you do get is rather breathtaking tbh, The Dev's managed to make an empty red planet look very nice indeed, I run a GTX2060 and have everything on Ultra and get no frame drops.
*The game seems like it will have limited playability due to lack of content, Once again its only $20 so I don’t expect Cyberpunk 2077.
*I prefer PVE so anyone that is like me there are plenty of PVE official and unofficial servers to join,
*If they Brought out an Expansion with more content Id buy it in an instant, (HINT HINT DEV'S)
All in all I highly recommend this game, it’s a real gem!

I dare you to spawn on west. There is no magnesium, which is necessary for future crafting.
Everywhere else is, but not on the west. Not there, wild west, baby.
Weapons:
Enjoy a "survival" game, where you can craft useless weapons like:
Sniper rifle, which is good on 10 meters like shotgun or assault rifle.
Assault rifle, which is unaccurate like sh*t.
So take shotgun, which is the only useable weapon.
I dare you to aim down sight. No no, never do it, because mouse sensitivity is waaaaaaaay slower.
Just hipfire on close range.
If you die in some facility, forget about your gear and everything you've collected.
Enemies will respawn again. So if you want all that back, get yourself a Terminator pack.
Crafting:
Enjoy illogical crafting, where you must keep staring like a f*cking c*nt on the machine,
because it can't work itself. No, it's future man, machines don't work alone.
But...what about those robots all around?
Vault? What a f*cking joke. Don't waste flops (skill points) or resources.
It has as much storage space like the large storage container.
Base:
Your base is limited by real time. So you have play this sh*t from time to time.
Else it will be opened for everyone, so you'll lose all of your items.
If you decide, that you don't waste your time anymorey, but you want to keep your items, just
destroy your base and take all to your inventory. But newly, if you quit the game overweighted, you will drop most of your items, because you have to reach the right carryweight.
And don't forget to enjoy lags, if you don't have at least 100Mbps internet.

I definately recommend memories of mars, I wasn't sure based on the
current reviews however after spending a bit of time on the game I can
say that it's really a fun game.
Pros
* Cheap.
* Has a very good tutorial that eases you into the game, make sure you follow the missions.
* There is a really good progression in this game, as you follow the missions in it you skill up and progress nicely.
* The base building has been well thought out in terms of making players invest into their bases in order to make them bigger it does make it less rubbish on the servers compared to other games. Even though
there are a lot of bases you know they are up kept so people are active.
* Smart AI seem to be really good at fighting and a good challenge as
u take on tougher AI.
* Large Map
Cons
* Game can crash sometimes, however, the development team put in some good error catching which doesn't destroy your windows it just shuts the game down and you are prompted to send what you were doing to the developers so they can fix them.
* There is occasional lag spikes now and then, the game pauses for a second when running and sometimes when just walking, I think it's the amount of bases or sizes of them that the system needs to draw.
Thats about it, hope it helps, I recommend memories of mars.
Lots of fun.

Take it from somone whos lived the dissapointment of wasting tons of cash on bad unoptimized EA survivor games many times. If you like rust or conan THIS GAME IS ABSOLUTELY FOR YOU ive got thousands of hours in both, but Memories of mars is quickly becoming the best of both worlds. first of all for a new release EA survivor, this game already packed hundreds of hours of content and is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY smoother running then conan ever was or is so that in iteself is impressive. the building system is awesome and offers a new spin on the classic "place to build"system we're all used to. the gunplay currently is a mix of current Rust/ rust legacy, bullets have travel time and ark, but the guns feel like theyve no oomf behind them, they still deal damage so lookout. the variety of weapons you can already make is awesome. Like in rust level doesnt matter, only gear does. a coupple well placed shots to the dome will end you quickly so it pays to be cautious around new people and depot often "most people dont get this concept".
when you first start off its a little rough... as youd imagine it would be on a barren dry planet with thousands upon thousands of mutant robo spiders trying to murder you, YOUR 3D PRINTER IS YOUR BEST FRIEND. scrape togather the basics, stay under the radar. , pick up tons of iron pebles , craft your first pew pew pistol, pick off some spiders and get yourself some "flops" " FLOPS are tradeable ingame currency you collect from looting crates/enemys/players, its used to learn new skills".. so now you have enough flops to manage your first BASE schematics. Things Get REALLLY good when you get your first base up, nothing feels more accomplishing then beating the odds and establishing yourself in the hellish wasteland, once you go about getting yourself a cloner "place to spawn"/ and some storage, things become REALLY smooth sailing from there on out. soon even with the most basic weapons youll find yourself murdering thousands of those spider assholes that used to torment you, youll find yourself discovering citys and caves full of loot and lore. theres plenty of things todo weather you like to pvp/raid. pvm or farm/grind, it really does cater to all. for this being SO very new and in EA this game looks REALY REALLY promising. 90% of the complaints people have are rage quits/player error and can easily be played around with half a brain..nothing is game breaking about this game. if you love survivors like Rok,ark, rust, conan, dayz. Please please please give this game a chance, 100% worth full price

The game is fun. I'm hosting my own private server for friends and the game is fun, but it's a fairly large map with no vehicles and walking everywhere is pretty damn annoying. I don't understand the logic of not having method of traveling around the map a bit quicker.

I want to be clear, i think this game is fun and has pretty good content. sadly i cannot recommend this game because it has been abandoned, although it has been abandoned it still is fun to grind and do the PvE. i will say if you want to spend a few dozen hours solo or with some friends it might be worth getting, but do not get if you are expecting some rust pvp like game play the game just didn't popular enough for it.
hope this helped some people on the fence.

So some things to remember before you buy this game are:
1. Its in early access
2. Updates after every season so dont worry about lack of content as of now
3. This game takes time to build up (like Rust)
4. Many of the negative reviews as of now are from people with not much time on the game (And others are just mad they cant run it) however some are correct for example: there can be lots of lag at times, the minimum ping I have seen in a game was 40
5. You will need to re build after every season but you can save your memories (skill-tree) and put some items in
underground containers for the next season (you will be able to place markers on them to find them later on)
6. The game can run at medium settings with the mimimum requirements but this can vary so I recomend somthing either in between or neer recomended.
7. If you do have problems with the game the Devs are very willing to listen to the community and change or add things so dont go posting negative reviews withought trying to solve your problem first.
The game is really fun to play if you like games like Rust or even ARK than dont let negative reviews scare you away from buying this game. It has lots of potental and most of the negative reviews are from people who dont even have an hour on it.

This is a great game, so much so, I purchased 4 copies for my friends and 2 more for my grandkids!!!!
The game is challenging, don’t expect to jump in, and immediately build castles, and walk all over your opponents, especially in PVP.
A Few Serious Game Tips for New Players:
1) Start in the West on PVE and get used to the controls and the surrounding area. Collect the iron and nitrate on the ground and craft a pistol and some ammo as soon as possible. Once you have a weapon, then check out the vehicle wreaks and small points of interest.
2) Map shortcut key is “M”. Its best to face north when looking at it, that way you don’t get confused.
3) In the upper northwest is a town, there is a radar dish pointing strait up on a building separated from the main body of the town, go there to collect some starting food, biomass, and a few useful items. Be careful you may have to fight a spider or two, and no you are not ready to enter the town.
4) You should have the starting assault rifle (BR9 Charger) or a shotgun (AC13) and two or more stacks of ammo before considering entering a town or bio dome complex.
5) Move around the outskirts of these abandoned towns and bio domes to build up some inventory and get into small fights with the spiders. Don’t be in a hurry to go into a town, you will get mauled if you don’t do it right.
6) The two towns and bio dome in the west are the easiest to make a loot run through, don’t go to the nuke stack or the airless refinery next to it, in the same Western map section, they are very tough.
7) Easy carbon fiber is at the east side pipes on the refinery directly south of the biggest mountain crater, typically you can get 15 to 25 units per 30/45 minute visit, you can access this usually without having to fight more than 3 opponents, doing the entire refinery is not as hard as the one I spoke of earlier, but it is also not a walk in the park.
8) Carry two weapons in PVE, I usually carry a shotgun and an assault rifle. In PVP you may want to rethink carrying too much because you may need to run from other players and the one carrying the least runs faster.
9) You want to practice shooting the spiders from a distance, once they get close they will dodge left and right (sometimes up and down) making it harder to kill them.
10) In towns and bio domes when you kill a bot, wait 15/20 seconds in a different defensible spot for the spiders that will show up to investigate, sometimes you can catch them running to the spot you were in when you made your original kill.
11) When attacking the bots and getting overwhelmed, don’t run forward, you will just activate more of them, run/move away the same direction you came from, especially when you are in buildings. If you have to fight, use doorways & stairways to funnel your opponents.
12) The torch is the best tool to harvest your kills, but you can do it with the excavator with less efficiency. The scrap grinder is important, you need it to refine your scrap metal from the kills, and extra weapons and equipment you don’t want, this is best way to get aluminum.
13) 2x2x2 is a good starting size for a small base, this will give you 16 wall panels to place devices, another 8 if you criss/cross the ceiling with 4 more walls and access them from the 1stfloor.
14) By the time you want/need magnesium, go to the center of the map and into the canyon, you’ll find lots of it soon enough if you go to the East side of the center of the map bio dome.
15) The meteor impacts have Titanium.
16) The inventory key “I” will take you to more than just the inventory, look at the tabs on the top of the window, what you want is the Protocols tab. Follow the easy instructions and claim your rewards, do the helm and you get the rest of your armor as a reward. Don’t do the depths of insanity, My team mates call it the “Battle Cave”. You will need to be much tougher and I recommend going in with some friends/team mates.
17) When meeting other players in PVE, be courteous, this is the best way to find team mates before going to PVP. You want to be able to trust them 1st before taking a chance on someone you meet in PVP.
18) When going to PVP, it is best to go in with a partner, or better yet a team. Solo acts generally do not survive for long in any PVP environment.
19) Going from PVE to PVP, you will retain your skills and your flops, you will not have to start completely over, and hopefully they will not change it in season 7, which starts at the end of July 2019.
20) Sometimes it is best to have a base in both PVP & PVE, especially when you don’t want to have to look over your shoulder every time you harvest a node, and would rather play somewhat casually. Just remember, PVP does not have a casual mode, someone will shoot you when you are not paying attention.
21) If someone starts speaking to you in PVP, instead of shooting you, they may not be bent on wasting you and taking your stuff, especially if you don’t have much, most veteran players can gage you, usually by the weapon you are using, and what you are doing at the moment. Just don’t invite them to your base till you know more.
22) Be sure to check behind you occasionally, even in PVE, because some players practice shadowing in PVE. In PVP be sure to make occasional stops at semi-defensible places and scout out the area, including behind you. Look & listen for gunfire and spider/mantis movement.
23) Never look for a fight if you are carrying loot and ore, drop it off at your base 1st before looking for an encounter.
24) In PVP, don’t wear your best gear and weapons when farming iron and magnesium. It is also best not to wear it if you are exploring.
25) Last Tip – Stop reading the negative reviews, you’re not going to get anything useful from them. Most people write bad reviews because of a single bad experience, I guess you can call it “Rage Reviewing” Usually these people have hardware issues, are spoiled, and/or feel entitled to be superior to everyone else, the game does not have a lot of glitches that affects the way it should be played and bases don’t just disappear, they get blown up (razed).
Good Luck, and see you soon, hopefully before you see me!!!

I been playing this game a lot and I have to say it looks really nice, quests, big map, crafting, building, mining, LOOT :), skill tree... there is also a guide online so you can set up your own private server PvE or PvP or both, you have freedom to change all controls settings keys, it is first person only game , I been really busy on it and having fun, I just wonder why they are letting the game to die ? Why there is no one on their official discord server answering the new players questions? I been trying to help with the questions as much I can, but I feel bad for what the Developers are doing to their own game, well maybe something to do with this stupid pandemic, anyway I play PvE only and if you like to explore and do PvE stuff like me you will like the game, not sure about PvP since the Developers are doing nothing I guess there is a lot cheating going on even a guy on their own discord showing to people how to dupe items LOL!
Today I joined into the official server, I was really scared to get killed by a player, so then I saw a player and told him: I am new pls do not kill me, he said all good because we are not in PvP area, he helped me out with food and some game stuff and told me if I like to do PvE only all I have to do is avoid pvp area that you can see marked in the map, also you will see a white laser going into the sky meaming the PvP area is on, so you can PvE without fear to be killed by PvP players in the official server, just great :).
Anyway take the opportunity and buy it since are on sale -75% off.

Cool game. Survival, crafting...and it's on mars.
Even though I play PvE, there are others there. But in a friendly atmosphere, offering help.
Graphics : good
The storyline is good
Combat : good
Progres system : very good
crafting : OK
What I really like is that there is a constant need for more resources, like copper and magnesium. And a constant longing for that next and better tool and weapon. Exactly how it should feel. You are kept long enough on the tiny pistol to appreciate the first rifle a lot.
Maybe this game is not developed any more, but I am having lots of fun with the content it has. Also very good is how the missions get more difficult without becoming impossible. Good balance found here!
What a bargain :-)

have put countless hours into this game and while it was fun for a while the lack of developer support, ultra low player base (usually less than 2 players on the servers at one time) no new content and that the game forces you into pvp makes this a big NO from me

Good game, enjoyed it a lot. Played on PvE Official server and had no issues with Achievements and even though there is a PvP Area and PvP Events they are no longer part of progression. The Jet pack is fun, the Vanguard boots are a blast. Best to play with a friend though IMO, the servers don't seem very populated and no one ever wants to trade.

Game has very serious issues with regards to people raiding and destroying your base even on pve servers, and devs don't care. they haven't been seen or heard of in 3 months. just another greedy cash grab by another greedy dev using steam as a platform for theft. DON'T BUY. wait and see if devs fix the game. I will change my review if the devs fix the game, but I doubt that will happen.

To begin with I had a bit of scepticism about getting this game because of the mixed reviews, but looking at the more recent ones, they are quite positive, so i thought i'd give this game a go and seeing as this has easily been one of my favourite games in only a very short time period I thought I'd give a positive review and encourage anyone who enjoys Survival & Sci-Fi games to pick this one up too. To start with I'll outline both the pros and cons.
Pros:
-Great Progressive Skilltree
-Varying Enemy Difficulty & Abilities
-Very In Depth Base Building
-Base Upkeep & Upgrade System
-Loads Of Crafting Recipes
-Lots Of Guns & Explosives
-Ammo Types With Strengths/Weaknesses
-Nutrition & Oxygen System
-Different Healing Options
-Looting & Resource Tracking
-Currency System In FLOPS
-Challenging Achievements
-Very Easy To Follow Tutorial/Guide
-PVE Servers + PVP Zone & Events
-Only Able To Raid In PVP Zone
-Varying Outpost Building Types
-Huge Terrifying Mech In The Crator
-High Risk High Reward Gameplay
-Unstuck Button In Escape Menu
Cons:
-Very Laggy & Unoptimised In Outposts
-Crashes Often Due To Bugs
-Sound & Audio Bugs
-Snipers Have No Range
-Hasn't Updated in 6 Months
Overall the pros drastically outweigh the cons and this game is extremely fun, I highly recommend it, Especially with a friend. With a bit of tweaking and bug fixes or overall polishing this game would be perfect as it is already a real masterpiece I just hope the developers are either planning something big or are picking it up again, because it truly is a very special game that has given me great levels of entertainment, I have never spent this amount of time in only two weeks playing a game every single day like I have with Memories Of Mars, it is the best of its genre in my honest opinion.
Hope This Helps,
Cheers!

I logged into a official server and all there was to do was loot stuff and kill spiders, Upgrades made looting and killing spiders easier.
I lost interest fast as I felt alone in a huge map solo, One other person afk somewhere on the server.
At the time of this review there's 2 servers with 8 people on them and a few with 1 or 2 people.
The mining tools felt unrewarding, Probably a mix of knowing the materials were pointless because I'd already decided I didn't care to continue, And I knew I could just log out in the open and log back in and still be alive with all my items.
Steam Tag for Disbanded would be nice. I wanted to try it though.

I absolutely love Memories of Mars! Even though it's an older game, it's still just as fun to play today as it was when it was first released. I've set up a dedicated server and have been playing it with a group of friends, and we've been having a blast. The world of Mars is vast and full of danger, and it's always exciting to explore and see what we can find. I would love to see the developers pick this game back up and release some new content, as it would breathe new life into an already amazing game. Overall, I would highly recommend giving Memories of Mars a try, especially if you're a fan of survival games. It's a real treat!

[Early Access Review]
For a game concept it is a good idea - mars, colonies, clones, resources, good initial concept.
As for their sole reliance on one game 'currency' item type(FLOPS(Floiating Point Operations Per Second)) which regulates the mecahnic of your entire game progression through from player progression to survival and any base expansion (leveling) you require I am not so sure - if you want to pregress you have to consistenly add flops to your character AND base, otherwise your base will get wiped due to a timeout on the flops stored within it.
Having the entire game hang on one players ability to amass enough FLOPS to maintain their 'base' as well as rank up their player progression within the same currency scheme seems rather limiting in scope, albeit overall.
In addition to this the 'seasons' - solar flare events that occur when the developers wish to progress the timelime do not seem a realistic mechanic at all - you can for example save your progression within the memory banks of a harvestor (a conveniently placed massive structure reminiscent of a nuclear steam tower within which you can save your brains(FLOPS)) and completely avoid such an event - irregardless of the fact that a CME is much like an EMP in which case it would have detrimental effects to anything electronic operating at the time.
After any CME/solar flare events you can then just re-upload this harvestor content to your new clone-brain (how did you know it existed if you are a 'new' clone?) - missing game logic/mechanic.
There are a lot of things missing from this game concept which you would expect of a space/planetary-exploration type game tackling such a scenario.
If you are looking for the type of game where you actually have to farm relevant resources, make friends and allies in other players then I would I'd suggest you wait until they develop it further, possibly change their end-game rhetoric or maybe just look at another title that promotes a more survival game-mode instead of a kill-all-and-win-all scenario.
If you are looking for Rust in space, this is probably your game - farm the crap out of the world - shoot people, / repeat.

Another abandoned ware.
Servers are up but lacking of players. At this rate, the game will be sunset really soon and it will be a waste of money.
Once the game is out of early access, it is out of development too. Developers abandoned this game.
Should have had offline mode instead of online only!

Fun game, But there aren't any people anymore, It's just you and a friend wandering around this huge map finding bases without any door or security etc. I would recommend this game if there were more online players, But if you wanna talk gameplay and not community then yes it's a good game you can create guns armour and much more. Like i said would recommend if there were more players, Until then i'm sorry but you would not have fun.

Instead of reviews for Early Access games Steam should change it to feedback too many E.A. games get review bombed while still in devolpment by people who dont seem to understand that the game is still being made. then when it comes out of E.A. change it to the review system, to me give the devs time to add features and content, too many E.A. games get neg. standing.

Most reviews are during the pre-release phase. Honestly folks, most all comments i read was bug this bug that. All games will have this and the game is excellent, even for all you nay-sayers. Common sense hardly exists anymore. Please think before you type all the nonsense. GG all MoM is great.

DO NOT PLAY!!!!
The developers have abandoned this game and left it with a super toxic end-game. DO NOT BUY OR PLAY THIS!
Waste of money and time.
Edit: If you have already wasted your money on the game, get the free dedicated server and play on ur own private server. It is the way to even begin to enjoy this game.

The game has some cool elements and if you love Mars, you will enjoy it. My main beef is that it's so damn quiet. Minimal voice acting and lack of diversity in enemies.
I feel like they need to improve the base building element and add alot more variety.

At first the game has a lot of promise and provides you with the missions and tools to have a great time and has a lot to explore. Once you get a group of friends like I did it becomes an even better time exploring mars meeting other people on servers, but once all the cool new things become tasks for grinding and you realize the story ended way faster than your end game objectives to even get the end game armors.... it tends to strain on you. I can't stress how fast the game turns into a bunch of information into an empty runner of an experience. Maybe it was because I was the last person to leave from my group of friends but once you play for some time and have all these odd bugs that destroy your game like random bugs that kill you and removes all your stuff. (How one friend stopped playing) and just having server issues that locks you out for 2 weeks killing the rest of the people playing to either move on or wait for something of a response. Unless you're playing on a really popular server I don't think this game is worth it if you're just playing solo. Very sad too because now that I've 100% the game and it's achievements, I don't feel that great about my time spent.
