Iron Curtain is Just too Raw
+ Beautiful map with comforting vibe
+ Proper weapon zeroing
+ Improved grenade usage
- Many of the weapons use vanilla reload animations
- Sound designs that either use vanilla sound or just bad original sound
- No Czech radios
- Improvised grenade doesn't really work like proper mine
- Bikes don't lean when turning
The moment you open the editor and the first it shows is vanilla NATO force, there's something wrong with this CDLC. Even being the cheapest CDLC with less than $10 price tag and biggest price cute on sale don't save it. This cannot be compared to Global Mobilization in terms of quality. I would argue that the price should be as same as Western Sahara which did import and improve Arma 2 assets (only map assets, though).
Let's start with the positive, the map itself. I will say that Gabreta is the most beautiful paid map in all CDLC. Idle driving and traveling throughout the town and forest is the most fun experience compared to Normandy, Cam Lao Nam, and Weferlingen. Houses feel like true house, there's also a highway along with the blockade, of course, an airfield which Global Mobilization lacks. Oh yes, I will use GM as comparison to IC more here.
And I will say their weapon mechanics, while don't improve much, but still a plus side compared to other CDLCs. First is rather proper zeroing. Almost all of weapons have animated iron sight when zeroing. Not only that, this CDLC features more way to use grenade. Certain grenades can have its detonation costumized and all of the grenade can be converted to be tripwire mine.
As for the negative, plenty. Let us start with the weapons. Like... almost all of them are using reload animations from the vanilla (plus Marksmen DLC) weapons. I cannot help but being offended by most CSLA's (weapons) weapons and machine guns as a whole. Like, too many of them are vanilla, for example Sa-58P use MAR-10's animation. Because of that, the animations don't look good. Not to mention the magazine sometimes are not on the character's hand. Just flying straight to the magwell. Of course, I'll give credit for them for having original animations for bolt-action rifles and vz. 52. But... I will appreciate it IF this is a mod, not a paid CDLC. I think most of the original sounds are just plain bad.
Well let us take a ride for a bit in this beautiful region with some vehicles...
Oh would you look at that, another problem are present. While it is better than GM to put dynamic all-black interior for heavy vehicles, the sound are again, vanilla. For example, M1 Abrams uses T-100 Varsuk's sound, OT-65 uses Strider's sound. The vehicles are fun to use (I think the problem that was shown by Rimmy Downunder in YouTube has been rectified), but these sound are breaking my heart.
I mention that the motorbike on this CDLC doesn't lean. So the bike works almost like a quad of vanilla Arma 3. It comes with the sound along with the way it turns, and how stable it is when it turns. I know that there aren't many people use this, but considering that GM and SOGPF have bikes that work rather properly, this will be another issue to be addressed.
Anyway I think I want to ask the locals about the region
And what a good coincidence, the locals speak English properly! What do you mean, Czech speak good English? Sigh, this is another issue. Like, why doesn't a CDLC based on Czechoslovakia have a native Arma 3-style voice. Of course this is too, an issue for SOGPF, but at least it was compensated with idle Vietnamese speech. But using English voice without reason is just a major sin.
Let us take a step back and talk about tripwire grenade. While it works as a tripwire by exploding those who trip on it, unfortunately, you cannot shoot it so it can be exploded safely as an alternative way to disarm the mine. I love the idea, but I still think CSLA Studio should make it to be true tripwire mine along with its charachteristics.
So yeah, I won't recommend this CDLC. I am not a person who likes to use harsh words. But if they don't rework their work, especially their sound designs, they will keep ruining their legacy and reputation. They already ruined it, of course, but I believe they can redeem themselves in future updates.
Adding a bit of salt to injury, there's a point I want to point out which will make this CDLC looks even worse, but won't be enough to do so. They don't name "UAZ" cars as it is, instead they come with the altered name "AZU". Of course it is understandable since UAZ do have base in Czech Republic. But what I want is to have their classnames retain the original name, just like how GM have their MP5s name changed but still have their true name.
