Company of Heroes is a groundbreaking real-time strategy game that revolutionized the genre with its intense tactical gameplay, immersive World War II setting, and innovative mechanics that emphasize strategic positioning, cover, and resource management. Developed by Relic Entertainment, the game captures the brutal realities of the Western Front through meticulously detailed environments and a narrative-driven campaign that follows the Allied forces during the liberation of Europe. Unlike traditional RTS titles that focus primarily on base-building and resource hoarding, Company of Heroes places a heavier emphasis on squad-level tactics and battlefield control, requiring players to think carefully about unit placement, terrain advantages, and coordinated attacks. The gameplay shines in its dynamic combat system, where cover and line of sight are crucial, and every decision can tip the balance between victory and defeat. Units feel distinct and authentic, from infantry squads and armored vehicles to artillery and support units, each with their own strengths and vulnerabilities. The destructible environments add a layer of realism and strategy, as buildings, trees, and obstacles can be torn down or used for tactical advantage, forcing players to constantly adapt their plans. Resource control is tied to capturing strategic points on the map, encouraging aggressive play and map dominance rather than passive defense, which keeps the action engaging and fast-paced. The single-player campaign is well-crafted, offering a compelling narrative that is both emotional and historically grounded. Players experience a range of missions that vary in objectives and scale, from fierce urban firefights to large-scale assaults, each demanding different tactical approaches. The story is supported by impressive voice acting, detailed cutscenes, and authentic sound design, which together create an immersive and cinematic war experience. Beyond the campaign, the game’s multiplayer mode is highly competitive and well-balanced, with a strong community that appreciates the depth and skill required to master the game’s mechanics. Visually, Company of Heroes was a technical marvel at its release, featuring richly detailed maps, realistic animations, and impressive particle effects such as smoke, explosions, and weather conditions that enhance immersion. The audio design is equally noteworthy, with authentic weapon sounds, battlefield chatter, and a stirring musical score that underscores the tension and drama of combat. The user interface is intuitive, providing players with easy access to unit commands, minimaps, and tactical information without overwhelming the screen. While the game excels in many areas, it is not without minor drawbacks. Some players may find the steep learning curve challenging, especially those new to RTS games, as success often depends on mastering micro-management and quick decision-making under pressure. Certain mission scenarios can feel punishingly difficult or overly scripted, which might frustrate casual players. Additionally, the AI, while generally competent, can sometimes exhibit predictable behaviors or fail to provide a consistently challenging experience in single-player skirmishes. In conclusion, Company of Heroes remains one of the most influential and critically acclaimed real-time strategy games, celebrated for its tactical depth, historical authenticity, and engaging gameplay. Its focus on squad tactics, environmental interaction, and strategic resource control creates a uniquely intense and rewarding experience that stands the test of time. Whether playing through its gripping campaign or competing online, players will find Company of Heroes to be a richly satisfying tribute to the complexities and chaos of World War II combat. As someone who’s played all three games, I keep finding myself going back to the original. There’s just something about the 2006 classic that the sequels couldn’t fully recapture its simple tactical and even thought its 2006 the graphics looks great. It’s not just nostalgia—it’s that the first Company of Heroes nailed the core of what makes an RTS both thrilling and deeply tactical. PS there is always online ppl making matches but they require expert players to play with them .

I think that this game is very good for something as old as this. It is an excellent RTS game despite other reviews of it complaining about bad graphics (this game came out in 2006) or only being for people trying to find nostalgia. However, I can say that I really liked the game despite it being my first time playing. This game is worth trying out!

I'll be playing this game in 2062 god willing, this is my RTS GAME OF ALL TIME. The digital standard of what a rts should be. Like Nas first album illmatic though relic outdid themselves on their first attempt and still have not been able to outdo this masterpiece of a game!!!!!!!!! Play alone, with bots, with friends or randoms... offline or online. 10/10 gem. Thank you to relic and all who worked on this masterpiece!

Enjoyed this game. Not one that has kept me gripped for days on end but it's definitely a game that has ticked a few boxes for me. Company of Heroes is remarkably simple for me, very enjoyable to just lose yourself in for a few hours at a time.

How many divisions' worth of enemies can someone have shoved up their ass? Play this game and find out, because HOLY FUCK, WHERE ARE YOU PULLING THESE GUYS FROM?! I’m only allowed to have a total of 75 men across various squads, but they can have—what? Three divisions’ worth of troops?! Like, how is that fair, man? Anyway, this game is... not fun, but it's cool. But if you don’t like games where you have to micromanage—and I mean micro micro micro-manage—this game will bring you a lot of pain. Wouldn’t strongly recommend.

Definitely showing it's age, and it's not as polished as DoW. But man, old school relic really knew how to make an RTS, this one is a classic. Real time destruction adds so much, and Relic did it in 2006 where most modern devs can't. I also like how this game captures the feel of old school WW2 media. I HIGHLY recommend looking up hotkeys for this game. Using ctrl + 1,2,3... Can save selections of units. Clicking the minimap or using arrow keys for movement is also nice, wish it supported wasd, but oh well.

This game is very fun, and i am not over exaggerating. I have played this for a long time mostly in single player modes. The campaign is mid, but everyone says that's why you should get the game. Which I don't agree with at all, but that's just me I guess. The reason why I play that game is because you are always having to think and look every where on the map because the enemy or AI is so aggressive and really hard to beat. Unfortunately the AI has a huge advantage over you, so it takes time to learn how to beat it. When you play against real people it is the most fun, just because you almost feel like you can't lose. Don't join people in multiplayer because most of the time they have practiced those maps and have a advantage over you. So what I do is ranked where it is more fair and fun, so overall this game is worth it fun wise. With friends or being alone, it is worth it, but the graphics are alright but not terrible.

Still one of the best RTS games ever, and it has held up really well over time. A perfect mix of depth and realism with plain cool and fun mechanics, and the environment destruction is still genuinely impressive. The campaigns are also brilliant and some of the best I have ever played, back when they were new as well as now.

Even though I didn’t play Company of Heroes back in the day, it’s impressive how well it holds up. A solid RTS—still worth playing today. Landing in Normandy brought back the same vibe I got from the D-Day mission in Commandos 3 and Call of Duty 2.

I was just at Omaha Beach, and the campaign mission doesn't match the real life terrain or defenses. For DDAY being one of the most documented battles in history, game developers seem more interested in copying Steven Speilberg and Saving Private Ryan instead of the real place.

the tutorials and campaign have drastically different difficulties compared to skirmish. get ready to read extensive online strategies just to survive against an easy AI. if you enjoy rts, stay away. this game is the definition unbalanced trash. all of the positive reviews are either bots or smooth brain losers who have never played a quality game.
