Mafia II: Definitive Edition

Mafia II: Definitive Edition is one of my favorite games that I regularly return to, especially in winter. It’s incredibly atmospheric and captures the spirit of the era like no other. The story is one of the best in the genre—engaging, dramatic, with charismatic characters and natural dialogue. The shooting and cover mechanics feel satisfying, and I personally enjoy the driving, even though some may find it repetitive. After all, the focus here is on story-driven missions rather than an open world. Unfortunately, the side missions were cut. The remaster slightly improved lighting and textures. I personally had no issues with optimization or bugs, although some players have reported problems. Mafia II is a masterpiece. I spent countless hours in the original version—it’s truly a childhood classic for me. I highly recommend it to everyone. My rating: 10/10.

Man, i have some mixed feelings about this game. To begin with, it is called a definitive edition, which should mean that if there are any bugs, graphical or audio issues, should have been fixed, however, the classic Mafia 2 is more polished and clean off bugs than this. I have gone through most cut-scenes without any music or sound, for some weird reason it was off. There were times when both Vito and Joe would talk over each other and i could not understand a thing or one of the characters would repeat a sentences 5 times while another was talking normally over the 1st character. Besides that, the combat felt annoying, but not because the gun-play or fist fighting was bad, it was actually fantastic, but the amount of health i have is just too low. I get it, the devs were aiming for the game to be more realistic, but 1 or 2 bullets and i was dead. That sort of realism is great from the beginning, but it gets to a point where it is just frustrating. There were not any visual bugs, at least not any i can recall. Now, the main part, the story and the characters. I will not lie, the game feels a lot like the first. last two chapters were kind of predictable, because it is that similar to Mafia 1. I knew what and how it would end and to my absolute no surprise it ended exactly like that. Overall the story is rather simple, it follows the main character Vito, who used to be an ordinary kid, but because of his father and a mischievous friend Joe, he became obsessed with money, women and material wealth in general and that lead him to cause trouble to himself. I like Vito, i really do, but despite all the praise he gets, i think Tommy from Mafia 1 was better, not only as a character, but also as a guy who was trying to get out of the struggles he faced. I really liked how the story was told in the first game, although it was rather difficult to understand from the beginning, it gave me an unique view at the end. To concluding what i am saying, this is a good game with many flaws (notable audio), good character development, good gameplay, but if compared to Mafia 1, Mafia 1 takes the cake. I just felt more connected to Tommy and other people, here Henry was great, but he disappeared at once then came back like 10 chapters after, Joe was okay, but he was predictable often times. Anyway, i will not stretch it any further. Play it yourself, everyone seems to love it and i m probably the only one who simply just liked it. Actually, lastly, i have to mention this. The game has this weird cult like following, where if you disagree with them and say that "i did not really like that game as much you did' then apparently you have no taste in games or you are a clown for not liking it and i kind of get it, but it simply was not as good as you guys make it out to be, it is good / okay

Not much of a difference from the classic version of the game. It would have been nice to have the option to free roam after completing the story, it makes no sense to gather money if you don't get to spend it. The extra content is awful and a waste of time.

Absolute masterpiece. One of the top 3 video games of all time. I've played it at least a dozen times, and I'll play it another dozen. Everything in it is top notch. Never gets old. The only issue is that the 'Definitive Edition' is the inferior way to play it. it's full of bugs with no added benefits.

1st hour in and let me tell you - I'm hooked. It's like reliving the nostalgia of playing GTA 3 (with Mafia vibes) all over again. It's refreshing to play this type of game in 2025. Considering the original game was released 2010, it was that ahead during its generation Only downside is it's playable only up to 1080p, but understandable. Enjoying so far

This game is an amazing game of course please don't compare this game to the first version. The game has beautiful environments interesting characters and dialogues there has been a lot of progress in the physics and innovation of this game it may be strange but i think driving in this version is better than version one overall this game is a great choice for both mafia lovers and those looking for a good game

Where to even start with this cash grab? The graphics are basically the same as the "classic" edition. The major soft locking glitch near the end of the story is still in the game. The gunplay is still trash. Why even make a "Definitive Edition" when there is no major fixes or at the very least better graphics. Please for the love of god DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. When this edition first came out, there were a lot of complaints. And here we are a while later and it feels like nothing was done. Pathetic and the people who pushed this game out should feel ashamed of themselves.

2K wants to know every single bit of information that exists about you if you want to play their games now. Complete trash.

Story good. Game play is shit. buggy and doesn't feel good to drive, shoot, or do almost anything. every mission is an uphill battle with the enemies AI the NPC's, random game breaking bugs and the games controls.

One of my favourites in the series. Highly recommended on sale. Its a no brainer especially getting it with the Mafia franchise bundle which includes all the games.

just as good as the first game, imo. encountered a couple bugs (mostly graphical) during my playthrough but nothing game breaking. story and characters are still great and i think the gunplay is a little better than the first here. insane cliffhanger to end on btw..

Mafia Two is a game I've completed many times, both on console and PC and is probably one of my favourite games of all time.

No fucking way this game is "definitive edition". Everything is thrash. FPS stuttering problems bugs even the gameplay and the graphichs, looks like Rockstar types of "definitive edition"

It improved the in between mission moments with clothes and gun shopping, custom car modifications including hot rods, and food and booze. Unlike Mafia I which was strictly an interactive movie Mafia II interactive plus more. Having multiple guns was great, variety of firearms, and the back story for the game was good. Very few glitches mainly just one mission where Vito's hat was in the middle of his face. This was a good game! The music is really amazing by the way!

10/10 Linear story, no bullshit, no side quests, follows the same element as the first.. Loving the Comedic Duo <3

Like its ok and i have played this like 3 times before on console. But why do people think this is better than mafia 3? the main story is only kinda good but if you have seen any mafia movies this does nothing original and its even mid gameplay-wise. In 3 the story is so much better with more interesting characters and its actually open world and i like the gameplay loop even when its repetitive. Like the singular thing why i like this still is the vibes and visuals but even then this versions sometimes runs so badly.

Great story, and a good quick play.

Base game is good. The story is intriguing and got me hooked for most of the game. The wanted level system is a little ridiculous on this game compared to the first. The DLCs, especially Jimmy's Vendetta, is a bit trash. The only cutscenes you'll have on that DLC are on the first mission and the last mission - everything else is do this, do that and go to a "safe zone" to complete the mission. Joe's Adventures is better in some ways. Overall, I'd still recommend it just for the story alone.

this is a great 2nd game and one with another very well done story with dlc that is kinda strange but i really enjoy 8.5/10

The ending is crazy. Yeah Joe was always getting Vito into trouble, but after ALL that bromance, and them sticking their necks out for each other, Joe is carted off to die while Vito cannot do anything about it and is probably just glad to be alive.. That's how mafia works. Just like Mafia 1, there are no happy endings to this thing of ours.

One of the best gaming trilogies ever made. Highly recommend playing the Mafia games. Great story, Characters and gameplay ever. Excited for Mafia Old Country to come out in August.

Would rate it higher but my game failed to load after chapter 12, still a good game overall, I enjoy the driving, though I wish there are more checkpoints.

if you love a good gripping story line game, definitely try this w the definitive edition the graphics look way better and the game play is extremely smooth and the story keeps you gripped till the end 10/10 would recommend

I really want to like this but its literally unplayable (for me) my saves dont work, they dont SAVE, ive heard great things about this game so ive tryed to play it in one setting but i either crash or give up. Im glad I was able to play Mafia: Definitive edition, without this issue. it only seems to be happening with ALL my 2K games now.

This game still holds up after all these years. The Story is great and I love how it ties into Mafia.

Story is good, and combat mechanics are good. I don't like how you lose pretty much everything a few times during a playthrough.

Great series, I highly recommend that you give it a shot, especially if you are in to mob movies.

Only recommended because of better storyline combining action and sad emotions, massively emotional once it started going to story's conclusion.

Great game really immersive but some glitches and bugs

Mafia II: Definitive Edition 🔫🖤 this ain’t just a gangster game—it’s a cinematic masterpiece. vito scaletta? classy, dangerous, broken. the man’s got style and trauma. both. the city? cold and cruel. the soundtrack? chef’s kiss. 🎷🕴️ the cars, the coats, the 40s/50s aesthetic? unmatched. you don’t play this game… you live it. family, betrayal, respect. every mission feels like a scene from a scorsese film. ending? broke me in ways I didn’t expect. 🥀 it’s not just about crime… it’s about the cost of loyalty.

Mafia II is a overall good game. Just finished in yesterday and I've begun to play #3. The main story is shorter than Mafia I which is a bit disappointing. However, there are collectibles and extra gamemodes for you to get some more playtime out of. I currently have only played the main story but I plan to go back and get all of the collectibles and play the additional gamemodes. I felt the story wasn't as intriguing as Mafia I. Don't get me wrong, it was still enjoyable. Just I feel like it could have had more substance, I didn't feel like I was a true mafioso. In the first game I would roll out in a full suit, but this game I stuck to the leather jacket. Although, I did really like the tie in to the first game in Chapter 14. My favorite part of the game is the cars. You still have the vehicles I remember loving in Mafia I (now current to the 1950s), but you have many customization options. Things like engine tuning, paint jobs, custom plates, and decals allow you to customize a vehicle to your liking (The blower on the supercharger having an animation is a nice, although small, touch). Also, the free cars you get from either owning the other games or having a 2K account are pretty cool. They also give you some outfits from the other games. Unlike Mafia I, I did experience some bugs. Things like characters being invisible in cut scenes, duplicate audio when a character is speaking, hair looking weird, and clothes glitching. This being the case, the bugs did not negatively affect my playthrough. I will say, however, it was a little strange to be in a cut scene "talking" to someone and it is just a wall on your screen. As far as the gameplay: The gun play is more drawn out than Mafia I which I enjoyed. You need to use cover or you will get your ass kicked. I felt like I was in control and could handle myself but I wasn't the terminator going around demolishing everyone. The medium difficulty was great for me. It challenged me multiple times. There were some parts that felt like they were impossible but I eventually completed them after a few tries. There is a lot of driving, so be prepared. The good thing about the driving is that it feels pretty good! Much easier to control than I remember the first game being. Overall, I think if it is on sale it's a decent purchase. Right now it is $6 on the summer sale. You get some okay playtime and a decent story out of it. I also want to comment on the EULA because I see a lot of people talking about it. A lot of other games do the same stuff. Its not some new thing. Also, you can deny the info tracking. And if you are complaining about not being able to use cheats, you have some other problems. The game is not that hard.

Its a good game but it has some flaws. The engine is dated and at times buggy. Driving is not really all that fun and youre gonna have to do a lot of it. The biggest flaw for me personally are basically all characters. They arent bad, but compared to the first installment they do feel like a significant step down. The story overall is still solid and pacing felt fine too. Overall a good game, even if it does fall short of the fun I had with the first game.

changed the eula after i bought the game when i was wanting to experience playing this amazing game again but not thanks im not interested in all the spyware you bring out so it like the other games that have been changed against our wills after agreeing to a different eula years ago from your company will sit in a nice spot of hidden on my account so i dont make the mistake of letting a company with no business observing what i do see my pc... why does a single player game need all this ? thats what you should ask yourself what single player game needs to see your location at all times and forbids a vpn and mods must be only genius decisions made at the tip top of 2K

Mafia II for me is one of those games that you don't forget. I played it for the first time a long time ago, but every time I play it again, it has something to it. Vito Scalletto's story is a classic mafia story, maybe better than the one in the first game. Joe and the other characters are great and complement the story perfectly.

The story is great, and it does not have that annoying race car mission. However, it is still a little bit buggy, and the graphics is not a whole lot better.

Not sure what the big fuss is about. The game's fine. I finished it. It's looks a bit better than Mafia 2 in my opinion and I finished Mafia 2 Original about 4 or 5 times around the time it released. Although one of the last scenes has a weird eye bug that's not in the original. Honestly, its more like a reshade than anything...not really a remaster or whatever. I recommend it because it's Mafia 2 at the end of the day.
