Sonic Adventure is a fantastic game. It's my favorite 3D Sonic game because it's just a fun experience to play the whole game. The gameplay and level design as Sonic is a really good transition to 3D. The homing attack could definitely take the reticle that the newer games use, but it is very usable without it, and honestly feels natural. I forgot that it was missing when I first played the game. The camera is also a little outdated since the triggers control it, but it definitely works. For the other characters, Tails has a pretty unoffensive gameplay style, although it is weird that you need to beat Sonic. I like Knuckles in this game more than in Sonic Adventure 2 since his stages are a bit shorter and the radar tracks all of the emeralds. Sonic Adventure 2’s unique stages for the treasure hunting stages makes sense, but the levels take too long in that game. That might be a skill issue though. Amy is decent, but is a little slow. I don't mind it too much. It's definitely an interesting character story to go through. Gamma has a pretty cool story and is pretty fun to play as. Big the Cat's gameplay is a bit boring, but it's short so I don’t hate it. One big thing I prefer about this game compared to Sonic Adventure 2 is the progression. I prefer picking a character to play compared to being forced to play as a character that I don't feel like playing at the moment. If I was forced to play as Big the Cat in between the Sonic stages, I would hate him a lot more, but because I can just go to his story whenever I want, I don't really dislike it. The way Sonic Adventure 2 works does make the story a lot easier to understand though, with only two sides to keep track of instead of six, but this game's story wasn't that hard to understand. Also, you do have to watch the credits after every story which is a little annoying. I don't think there was a way to skip them, but I may be wrong. The overall story is pretty good in this game, although Sonic Adventure 2 has a better story. The soundtrack is amazing in this game, too. It is one of my favorite Sonic soundtracks, and that's saying something because Sonic has consistently good soundtracks. The final thing I have to say about this game is about the DX port. It makes the good look and play worse, so I did play this game with mods that made it more similar to the original Dreamcast version. This unfortunately makes the game much harder to recommend to people since they would have to set all of that up to get the best experience. I think I also set it up incorrectly since I ended up not getting the achievements for beating the game, and the amount of time that Steam says that I have played the game seems to be inaccurate. I will eventually replay the game so that it shows that I have beat the game. Anyway, Sonic Adventure is an amazing game and I would recommend it to anyone, even if they have to set up mods for it. It's a very fun experience and it really hooked me when I first played it.
