Castle of Illusion is a 2.5D platform game and was released originally in the year 1990, but SEGA made a remake and released it in 2013. Even though I haven't played the original version, I still enjoyed playing this game. The story is a classic one: You play as Mickey Mouse and you have to fight your way through the castle of illusion to rescue Minnie Mouse from the evil witch, who wants to steal her youth and beauty. The gameplay reminds me of classic platform games. You walk from side to side, jump over or on obstacles, throw items at targets, solve puzzles and do boss fights. I tried playing it on the keyboard, but I do recommend playing it on a gamepad instead. The graphics look really great to me and really colorful. Reminds me of the good ol' times when I watched those cartoons. The voice acting was done pretty well and I really enjoyed playing this one. Overall it's a great game with a short gaming experience mixed with a lot of nostalgia. I enjoyed it and if you enjoyed watching or playing Mickey Mouse shows and games, I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy playing it as well.

Despite trying for hours on end to beat Mickey Mania with a friend, a long time ago, we never made it past the third level. Spotting this game on sale, it brought back many good memories and I thought that maybe, this was a Mickey game I could finally beat ! Impressive remake of the eponymous game from 1990, Castle of Illusions sends Mickey across 5 diverse and colorful worlds, to gather the seven Chaos Emeralds that Sonic apparently misplaced again. Those will help him create the "Rainbow Road" from Mario Kart, that he will use to reach the tower, where the level "Stormy Ascent" from Crash Bandicoot is waiting for him. Once at the top, he will fight a very chatty Maleficent and try to save his one true love, Minnie. Phew... Quite the adventure for our little mouse, and yet, you'll see the end in about 2 hours. That's very short, mostly because the 10 levels and 6 bosses are fun and inspired but not particularly difficult, so you'll have to go after the hidden diamonds and collectibles to extend your playtime to 4 hours. Most of them are shoved in your face as you go through the levels, but you'll need a keen eye to locate the others, hidden out of sight or at the end of trickier platforming sequences. Nothing too hard, and fun to look for. If you don't mind its obvious shortcomings, Mickey and his Castle of Illusions is a pleasant retro adventure that I happily went on. I may even be a little too enthusiastic, but I want to give it a 7, since it allowed me to take my revenge on Mickey Mania. It's not the same game but it counts, right ? Right ?

Castle of Illusion has pretty much everything I hated about old platformers. First and foremost there is no double jump or hover, you just get 1 awkward floaty jump which is really cool for the constant leaps of faith. Every level is filled with collectibles that are past mini points of no return, which means you have to do levels over and over again to collect everything. If you die to a boss, you don't get full HP to try again, and a lot of them have cheap trial and error hitboxes. This might be a semi-faithful recreation of the original Sega Genesis game, but with an HD remake I kind of hoped it would be a bit more modernized. I wouldn't say this game is hard, it's just that it's obvious the intent was to waste as much of your time as possible. Would not recommend unless you are a diehard fan of the original.

Do not buy this game. Within just five minutes of being in the game, not even actually playing, so many technical issues popped up that made it impossible to proceed. Based off of my own brief experience and that of others, this game should not even be allowed to be sold right now.

I Loved it, took me back to the good ol days 😁 I really wish they would Remake all the classic Mickey games like, Fantasia, World of illusions starring Mickey mouse and Donald duck (never got to play as a kid😔) The great circus mystery starring Mickey and Minnie, and of course Mickey Mania. While on this topic i honestly think they need to Remake all the Disney classics like Aladdin, The lion King Etc. i would purchase all of them for sure!

I'm not into this at all. It's so simple and feels soulless.
