Halftime Heroes made me question if I was playing a game or just babysitting my keyboard.
Gameplay: If you’re looking for engaging, responsive combat, this game ain’t it. Halftime Heroes leans heavily on idle-style progression, meaning you’re more of a passive observer than an active participant. At times, the builds can get interesting but after a few runs, it just felt like I was watching numbers go up instead of having fun. ★★☆☆☆
Graphics: Its basic pixel art gets the job done, but doesn’t impress. Enemies and environments lack variety, and it never really evolves into anything visually exciting. ★★☆☆☆
Sound: Although the soundtrack exists, the music loops are repetitive and forgettable. There’s not much else in terms of audio design to elevate the experience. ★☆☆☆☆
Story: Non-existent, which isn’t always a problem in these kinds of games, but it makes the grind feel even more hollow. There’s no worldbuilding or narrative hooks to keep you invested—just an endless loop of survive, upgrade, repeat. ★☆☆☆☆
Replayability: To its credit, Halftime Heroes offers plenty of permanent unlocks and a variety of build combinations to try. If you’re the type who enjoys watching passive upgrades accumulate over time, there’s some replay value there. However, the lack of engaging mechanics meant I had little reason to keep coming back. ★★☆☆☆
Final Thoughts: Halftime Heroes tries to ride the Vampire Survivors wave but forgets to bring the fun. The idle mechanics drain any real excitement, and with no style or substance to carry it, it’s hard to stay invested. I do find it strange that it mostly has positive Steam reviews. Perhaps Steam users really just love cheap, easy 100% achievement games.
Overall Rating: 3/10, would rather idle in real life than in this game.
