Just feels lacking in every area. Gear has a ton of stats and modifiers, but none of them feel compelling or interesting and going through it all to decide what is worth using is a massive chore that gets old really quickly, since so much of the loot is boring. Despite all the time you'll spend looking at the loot, upgrades will be very few and far between and in all my time playing so far, I've never been able to find gear that actually synergizes into a coherent build yet. The game needs some kind of weighting system to bias the drops toward your current class/job so that loot feels more rewarding and relevant. This is one of those games that drops way too much loot and none of it is ever useful. It's a cardinal sin for a game based on loot and plenty of games have failed due to this one critical flaw. The unique parts of the game like the pets are more of a liability since their AI is terrible and they run headlong into battles with bosses and get ganked easily, even when you order them to stay close. So most of my time has been spent trying to get their approval back up so I can use them again after they've died, only to have them die soon after. Being without a pet as some classes makes the game extremely punishing, so having your pet repeatedly kill itself is very demoralising. The tree planting/farming sounds good at first, but it's just busywork and I'd rather not have to deal with it at all, but the food and cooking system kind of mandates it since if you don't engage with that part of the game, you are putting yourself at a significant disadvantage in terms of healing and buffs. I just don't care for any of that. Just let me dungeon crawl, find good loot and get really powerful. The game feels lacking in every one of these areas because it tries way too hard to be unique and fails because of it. All in all, it just feels bad and punishing and tedious in a way that isn't really intended due to poor balance and the insistence on inserting "innovative" systems that don't belong. There are hundreds of roguelikes just like this one which are a far better use of your time and are much more rewarding to boot.

It's a solid game but some of its systems don't really mesh with how short it is. I felt no real need to engage with the pet system, and the item dreams have a lot depth when it comes to skill extraction, but that is completely unnecessary to get into by the time the credits are rolling.

This game was recommended to me by ChatGPT of all things. I gave it a try after looking for a game that mimicked Final Fantasy XIV's Palace of the Dead system. This was pretty close but in a totally unique way. I'm absolutely in love and will definitely play more.

God, it's so good, Beautiful, funny, unique, the pet system is perhaps a draw but perhaps provides too much risk for some, honestly a fave of mine, though, for context, I'm a total slut for pixelart, somewhat of a furry(I promise, it's as weird as an old-school disney movie, just characters that happen to be animals, I know that term brings a lot of things to people's minds, but some it's a far broader thing than society at large considers it to be, sorry for this long sidebar, I just don't want to scare asnyone off from a beautiful, funny game that I have, and still adore, through and through, though I've taken a long hiatus from playing it due to a computer upgrade and all the process that is...)and have been a diehard roguelike fan since... I guess, The binding of Isaac: Rebirth came out(November 2014)? Also melt for games with good soundtracks. Tl;dr; funny, beautifully stylized and unique, replayable af with a host of self-imposed difficulty options and playstyles. I promise, it's worth every penny, and getting a sequel (asoon?) too!

Turn-based, dungeon crawling RPG with different classes. Feeds an itch.
