Not a Contra game, but it wasn't bad at 90% off. I needed a mindless shooter that I could play without thinking much about story or depth, and it delivered that. It is kind of a looter shooter where the loot is mostly trash, but once you get some good weapons, you could just upgrade them until the end of the game. Most of the main missions were on the easier side until the last 2 chapters, everything before that was just repetitive, but I was ok with that.

What can I say about this game that anyone hasn't said before. It's ugly and not just like the assets look cheap but it feels like you're playing a modern arcade reboot of the game that both looks terrible and is designed poorly to siphon money from your bank account. It's edgy and not in like a "We aged Contra up with its audience" and more like a middle schooler who discovered how to swear for the first time and that's all he says Looking at this as anything but a Contra game; it's a mediocre twin stick shooter that feels stiff and awkward. It is not worth more than about $5 and should not be played sober. As a Contra game, it is abysmal and shouldn't even have the title. Bill Rizer would be disappointed. Save yourself $40, maybe spend like $10 just to get a better Contra game with Blazing Chrome alone and stop Konami from pushing out garbage like this or their pachinko machines so that they can actually, I don't know, focus on good games.

This game is a rather unique take on the classic Contra franchise, while still maintaining some iconic gameplay elements. The game definitely achieves a "modern day" status by keeping a look similar to other "loot" and "online multiplayer" style games. Run-N-Gun is still present and with a view similar to Playstation 2's Neo Contra, but now adds additional movement options to make run-n-gunning on the go quite smooth. A Cooldown feature is present to change things up a bit, turning this game into a "zombie survival" type of game also. in many instances. Horror elements have shaped this game; the city at night scenery definitely sports a "Escape from New York" feel. Playing as four different characters with their own skill sets and that resembles Sega Genesis's Contra Hard Corps gives the game a good variety, especially when paired with the multiple weapon choices available. Game has a lot of items to sort thru and gives them all neat customizable options to constantly explore, mostly with a in-game currency system. The game surely succeeds at keeping the playability factor high for those that are willing to see the good this game has to offer. Co-op isn't too high to offer with regards to story but at least it is present in some form (I haven't tested much co-op or online play yet unfortunately...). The Season Pass DLC is definitely worth paying for those who enjoy neat surprise ; ) . . . All in all, the game has good points to it, I did not see much B.A.D (no pun intended) relating to gameplay other than trudging through the Tutorial without settings adjustment first (a real challenge worth clearing) and the lack of the game freezing when "pausing" in single-player (which I suspect was built to accommodate online multiplayer functions easily). Resolution options cannot be changed during a mission but that is likely understandable as the game probably already renders the mission before starting, and changing it mid-game could cause many issues. This game requires some sturdy PC specs to run at higher graphics quality but should be able to run 1280 x 720 on most PCs no problemo, even at Full Screen 1280 x 720. As long as the PC can run the game well, the game is something worth enjoying in my opinion. Definitely recommend waiting for a sale, as $4 + $3 was worth the price and actually convinced me to pay for something on Steam publicly for the first time in my life. Game is worth a try, you can judge for yourself if you are into a zombie survival action run-n-gun in the end. I for one will see this game through to its conclusion. Happy Hunting!
