Beautiful and amazing game. There are many possible career endings as well as romance endings with both female and male characters. I got the ending with the daughter in a yuri threesome relationship with Gwyneth and Mona and that's all I need. 10/10.
Our lives are the sum of our choices
Volcano Princess propose you to raise a daughter and to give her a good education. Very cozy story with a lot of choices you should make to define what person your daughter will be and what kind of people she will be friends with.
She completes different courses of education each week. You do a lot of talks, small games like simple dungeon crawling roguelike with turned-based combat system. Or playing in a theater, taking a part in banquets, festivals, food cooking, taking part in a very simplified horse races and etc.
This game gives you unique experience and allows to raise the daughter in many different ways. From a waitress or a rascal to a theater star or an archbishop, or even the Queen.
That's your choice.

So far, this is a really well made game. I haven't finish the game / finish my first file, but I enjoy the art work and the characters a lot. The art style reminds me of early to mid 2000 anime, so it feels like a throw back. I was able to play this on my steam deck, but I had troubles on the math game event on Bird's Day. I had to hop on my computer to use the mouse to answer. However, I still enjoy this game regardless.
edit: I finished two routes and I got a really good ending on my second run, i'm not spoiling anything. just get this game!

This game triggers my "perfectionist" so bad. I thought I was done after the second run, but then I ended up going for a third, and a fourth, just trying to get a “better” ending, higher stats, you name it. 🤡 The art is chef’s kiss--so my style, and it really sets the mood. The romance was surprisingly cute too--not super complex, but it works. 🧑🍳😙🤌 The main story, though... it’s a little all over the place. I kind of get it, but some parts still don’t fully make sense. Still, it's a solid stats-raising game, and I’d definitely recommend it. 💯

Should I ever have children I hope they too can wipe out thugs in dark alleys in one hit at the age of 15.
Seriously though, great game. Multiple endings. Played through twice in less than 2 days, but I'm crazy and it's a weekend. Learned so much more in my second play through and the replayability is definitely there. Always more to discover or different routes to go down. Really enjoyable.

just really enjoyable and wholesome and there's so much to do! i love it
there's a lot to make it your own e.g. being a good father or not, how doing certain activities affect your daughter's career etc. and i find it a lot more engaging than your average visual novel :>

I absolutely adore this game! I got for free through Xbox Game Pass then ran to steam to purchase it just because I wanted to give the studio more money for future projects. At first glance it seems a bit shallow and laid back compared to the likes of Teenaged Exocolonist but it really shows up and shows out in the massive amount of detail and care that clearly went into everything! Even with the translation being a bit rough sometimes I find myself caring so much for all of these characters!

Daughter raising adventure where you send your single child to fight off demons alone in the forest at age 12 and she comes back having killed god by age 16
Accidentally did the true ending first try making the whole meta narrative inbetween endings completely worthless but that's not where the bulk of the game is, it's all about whether your daughter ends up a real worker in society or as someone worthless, do note the ending for being unemployed is among the rarest in the games only beaten by the Bricklayer ending
Plenty of systems that make all playstyles viable, whether you make money through killing god, being smart or selling your body (the 3 paths of life) you won't feel like you HAVE to do something over the other to progress to the point where it kinda devolves into being a sandbox
The rarest endings are the ones where you don't play the game or debuff yourself on purpose by the way, you can't fail so hard you end up with a boring ending so there's that
To keep you busy despite doing those seemingly less interesting endings you have romance endings and the characters are pretty damn cool
Also such a small prince like jfc man
TLDR 100% go for it, achievement hunting is comfy and intended and all the systems are very well crafted
TLDR
It's pretty good but has flaws. The date mechanics are sold, and most characters are well-written. The turn-based combat is simple yet fun. Unlike a lot of daughter-raising sims, the dad feels like a real character. And while the game is poorly translated, I find that didn't hamper my enjoyment too much.
8/10
the TL
Volcano Princess is an entry in the niche genre of daughter-raising sims, the Princess Maker games. Like those games, you're a single dad trying to raise a daughter and carve out her future, but planning the class/activities she'll do that month. Unlike those games, Rose (the default name of the daughter) is your biological kid instead of being some kid that was given to you by some high power.
Right now, I would like to state I'm somewhat familiar with the genre; I've played P.M.2 and P.M.5 and this game. So this review will be from this mindset. I will try to explain things so that someone unfamiliar with this style of game can understand it.
The gameplay of Volcan Princess (and Princess Maker) can basically be boiled down to a fancy spreadsheet simulator, as in stats are everything. Rose has 3 main stats and many skills affected by those stats: Stamina, which determines combat stats, and sword/bow skills. Mind, which is study skills like math/language. And charisma, which affects drama/art skills, chatting up nobles, and dates. Skills are raised by setting which 7 classes Rose will take at the beginning of every month, and stats are raised after finishing a course. For example, the basics of archery need 5 classes to finish the course. Each class will raise archery, and on course completion, stamina will increase. Her stats upon graduation will determine what job she gets, from a city guard to a court musician, and even being the damn queen. Your daughter's potential is limitless.
Along with class selection, each month you'll take control of Rose and be able to do activities around town. These can be rowboating to increase stamina, dating one of the many characters you'll meet, going on an adventure, or horseback riding. Each one of these actions takes energy, and different actions have different costs; adventuring costs are high, while rowing costs are low. Once energy is up, you'll have to progress to the next month.
You may decide you want your daughter to be a tough cookie and have her do some adventuring. The best way I can describe the combat is diet Slay the Spire. Choose a path; there may be an encounter, treasure, or event. Gain energy every turn; moves cost energy; and moves are determined by equipment and the classes Rose takes. It's all very simple, but it's a refreshing shake-up from normal gameplay. Depending on how far you get is a prerequisite for certain endings.
The story is fairly simple (until the end of the game). Your wife dies shortly after giving birth to Rose. When she turns 5, you play a tutorial where you show her around town and help her develop basic skills like reading and understanding emotions. There's then a time skip when your daughter, now 13, enrolls in Knight School. Over the next 5 years, Rose will either become a warrior, an artist, a lady of class, etc. As the months tick by, you'll learn more about the world, Rose's heritage, and a mysterious monster named the Owl Lady.
Your daughter isn't going to class alone. There are many potential friends and love interests, like the quiet and shy pianist, the adorable prince (with potential brain damage), and Mark... we love Mark. Whatever character's affection level is highest, she will marry at the end of the game.
The game is made by an Eastern studio, and the English is... just a bit shit. I never got lost in the broad story, but I would be lying if I said I didn't get confused several times. Unlike Princess Maker, the father you play as isn't 100% a blank slate. He'll comment on how well Rose is doing in school, sit down and actually parent his damn daughter, and actually show concern when something happens to Rose.
Now, so far, I have been mostly informal and positive about Volcano Princess. But it does have one fairly large drawback compared to Princess Maker, and that's the development of Rose. In Princess Maker, if you're a shit dad, your daughter will constantly let you know. She'll become rebellious, commit crimes, and straight-up run away from home. In Volcano Princess, even when you're being the worst dad ever, you'll get a few extra lines of dialogue, and that's it. This pattern applies to all aspects of Volcano Princess. When I raise my daughter to be an actor, she doesn't feel like an actor, warrior, or mathematician. This is likely because Volcano Princess has a more structured plot, but this does kill a lot of replay value for me.
Overall, if you like management games or visual novels, you will like Volcano Princess. It's really fun the first few runs as you explore the town and get a few endings. It is more accessible than the Princess Maker series, but it does feel more limiting than those games. Thank you for reading my ramblings. I don't usually write reviews (especially this long), so give the game a try, and if you like it, then there's more like it.

Fun game, although the game play loop I can see getting stale after 3-4ish runs. I only have 2 runs done right now and they were pretty fun although if I do have one complaint if you arent doing the dungeons (something you have to invest heavily into str and stamina for which you might not be going for), essentially for the last third of the game you don't have a ton of content.
Despite this lack of new gameplay in the final third of the game the first halfs gameplay is good enough to help support the second half and not keep you too bored, even if you aren't doing dungeons. On top of that the energy system helped make the game a lot more strategic with what you wanted to do, as if you don't think hard enough on any day you may just waste a whole seasons worth of time you could have used otherwise.
I do think that over all the game is very fun (despite translating issues, which I give it a pass for as it originaly in chinese), but you may get tired of it after a couple runs. For that reason I'd get it on sale, but if you really like these types of games then its pretty worth it even on full price.

This game is a heartfelt love letter to Princess Makers, the translation does comes with issues and the presentation might be a little bare, but the low price justifies itself. The new cycle feature borrows heavily from another PM clone Lair Land that makes the game easier as cycles go by. The barebones RPG element also returns, personally I am not a huge fan of it in PM or here, but YMMV.
It also funnily fixes one of the problems that princess maker had which was the daughter is the actual breadwinner, while money still isn't plentiful, there is enough so Rose can be a normal girl going to school and taking side jobs to supplement the household without working her to the bones. (lol PM2).

It's entertaining for sure. It's basically a management simulator for the life of a girl from being a toddler until she becomes an adult. There's some story mixed in. I skimmed over a lot of it. It took me about 7 hours for one playthrough. There are multiple endings and paths you can take which gives it great replay value. You get bonuses the second time around to make it more efficient. I'd recommend it if you enjoy those types of things.

Volcano Princess is a charming and surprisingly deep life simulation game that blends fantasy, parenting, and storytelling into an emotionally rich experience. Developed by Egg Hatcher and steeped in the warmth of pixel art and heartfelt writing, it’s a game that sneaks up on you—not with flashy mechanics, but with soul.
At its core, Volcano Princess is a life sim-meets-parenting RPG, where you raise your daughter in a fantasy realm after the death of your wife. What starts as a simple routine of scheduling classes, managing stats, and choosing activities quickly evolves into a web of choices that affect not only her skills but her personality, relationships, and even her destiny.
There’s a robust stat system with dozens of traits to improve: intelligence, strength, charisma, etiquette, magic, and more. The daily planning is reminiscent of classics like Princess Maker 2, but more forgiving and accessible.
The twist? Your daughter is not just a doll you level up—she has agency, questions your decisions, and changes dynamically based on how you raise her. It feels less like a simulator and more like a genuine parent-child relationship.
Set in a fantasy kingdom brimming with lore, volcano gods, noble houses, and mysterious factions, the world of Volcano Princess is colorful, rich, and surprisingly political. Your choices affect not just your daughter’s path—be it scholar, knight, bard, or even queen—but the fate of the kingdom itself.
Dialogues are warm, sometimes funny, and occasionally bittersweet. The relationships your daughter forges—with friends, rivals, and mentors—feel meaningful, and the game encourages multiple playthroughs with its branching storylines and multiple endings.
The game’s pixel art is gorgeous—a mix of Ghibli-esque whimsy and fantasy charm. Character sprites are expressive, environments are lush, and UI is clean and thematic. The music complements the tone well: soft piano tracks for reflective moments, upbeat village tunes for daily life, and stirring scores for climactic events.
Some players may find the early game pacing slow, as it takes a few in-game years before the narrative threads really bloom. Also, while the localization is mostly good, a few translation hiccups and awkward phrases occasionally appear. Minor bugs and UI inconsistencies crop up, but nothing game-breaking.
Volcano Princess is a beautiful, emotional, and engaging parenting sim that rewards patience, experimentation, and empathy. It manages to be both nostalgic and fresh, with an emotional core that hits surprisingly hard. Whether you're in it for the min-maxing, the multiple endings, or simply watching your pixel daughter grow up and make her own choices, this is a story worth playing through more than once.
A touching and magical parenting tale that blends choice, consequence, and care into one of the most unique indie gems in recent years.

i raised my daughter into to a theatre star who had a happy loving poly relationship with her two wives, then an elegant queen who was also dashing knight that married a beautiful princess. and then i raised her to become an actual literal demon who keeps her former boss who is also her gf trapped in her house, completley dependent on her, basically in an abusive relationship. 10/10 exactly what i seek out in princess maker games.

Pretty fun. Overall very cute/wholesome game with a great atmosphere.
Interacting with the daughter is nice, and her "Growth" is clearly felt.
The characters are fleshed out with an impressive amount of content. Most have 3 "Relation" events + at least 1 ending. Most have a good chunk of lines each "Round", where they comment on current events etc. This might not seem like a lot, but it really adds up with 18 characters over 42 rounds. The non-talk interactions are cool too, guessing their preferences for dates and gifts are pretty easy if you have been paying attention doing talks.
Endings are plentiful and split up in Career and Romance endings. Most of the art is great and the mini games are okay. Overall a good game with an interesting plot.
Now for the downsides.
The event system is a bit clumsy, but far from the worst i have seen. It gets especially bad if you are maxing out all relations as the event queue will be filled to the brim with relation events and almost no random events will fire off. There is a few bad translations here and there too, but its fine overall. The worst is a few mistranslated names in the ending slides, but nothing too immersion breaking.
Replaying the game can go from alright to painful, getting most of the top careers is not too bad, but i would really have liked a few more "skip" options. Farming the rest of the 42 Careers varies from painful to agonizing. Which is not too bad compared to most non-western RPG standarts. (I could have done without the trauma of getting Oarsman, Bricklayer and Commoner tho.)
I recommend the game to anyone who likes casual life-sims or "Princess Maker" like games. Most will find it enjoyable to play a run or two.

Overwhelmingly positive (I assume) comes from the Chinese audience. Because the translation is so bad it's nearly impossible to understand what is going on.
It's Persona-style time management. You improve stats, I don't know what they do. You do do school courses to improve other stats, I don't know what they do. You fight monsters in a forest, but I don't know what to do since even the very first area is a much higher level than you so you die in the first room. There are events that occur throughout the year, I don't know what or why they're happening. You receive letters in the mail from secret admirers that you can respond to (super creepy btw but maybe a cultural difference??), I don't know what they do. Activities level up the more you do them, I don't know what this does. You're given a grade after every week of activities, I don't know what they mean and if they're good or bad.
Most of these things are explained, but it's incredibly vague and 'off'. Like the translation has messed up one sentence that was really important to comprehending these systems.
It also really cripples the dialogue and character interactions when I have to spend brainpower deciphering what the character is trying to say. I'd rather skip past it all because it's not worth the hassle.
This is so harsh for a team of 2 people, I know. But holy fuck this has bare minimum 40,000 purchases. Please use that cash on something better than Google Translate.
