IN A WORD: MAYBE

IN A NUTSHELL:

WHAT TO EXPECT: Previously a one time free, event. Stand-a-lone pve content. Now must be purchased as dlc. Get to play as Chaos. Endless mode map designed with odds stacked up against one character. New cards for player decks. Required for 100% achievement completion. ACHIEVEMENTS: FIVE. ONE IS VERY GRINDY. STATUS: COMPLETE. WHEN TO BUY: AS PART OF COMPLETE BUNDLE. ON SALE.
More info below.... https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2497955774
THE LOWDOWN:
Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf - Wrath of the Damned (WotD) follows on from the Fall of Kanak. Bringing its contents to players who missed it's short-lived duration as a free to play event. Set after another dlc (Saga of the Great Awakening) players take control of legendary space marine not playable in the main game. Gameplay takes place on a solitary new map consisting of an entrenched defensive area. With two turrets and two wounded space marines to the north and south of the these. The only aim is to keep the main marine alive. To kill as many enemy chaos marines as possible. As they constantly pour forth and attack the position in never-ending waves. Essentially to fight to the last bullet. Eventually though the Space Wolves will be overrun as wounds add up. Then ability to heal is minimal. However if the correct strategy is employed it should be possible to ensure the demise of dozens of enemy forces. As in the previous new game mode, WotD also utilises periodic drops of special weapons and abilities. It is vital that these be collected by the main character. Though only if they have the opportunity to do safely. Their use in the player's tactics, ensues that enemies will be quickly dispatched. Keeping the kill counter ticking over faster. Required for achievements: . The Hour of the Damned - Take part in the Wrath of the Damned event. . In Dedicato Imperatum Ultra Articulo Mortis (common) - Destroy 50 enemies. . In Dedicato Imperatum Ultra Articulo Mortis (rare) - Destroy 100 enemies. . In Dedicato Imperatum Ultra Articulo Mortis (epic) - Destroy 200 enemies. . In Dedicato Imperatum Ultra Articulo Mortis (legendary) - Destroy 500 enemies. . Dark Truth - Defeat all the enemies. . Blessed by the Omnissiah - Keep both Sentry Guns. . Saviours from Beyond - Egil and Corus must survive. . In Dedicato Imperatum Ultra Articulo Mortis (mythic) - Destroy 1000 enemies. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2497957840
THE GOOD:
+ New set of six cards for the main game. Two are legendaries. + Two new tactical mechanics. A number of new weapons and booster pickups.
THE BAD:
- Fairly repetitive. - Required for 100% completion - One very grindy achievement. - Just a single intimate map. A PvE arena. - Uses a non-customisable deck. - Was previously free.
AND THE REST:
* Play against old and new enemies – Chaos Warriors, Bloodletters and a new special enemy. * Play as a different Space Wolf marine. * Nine new achievements. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2497969021
ANALYSIS:
WotD provided a minimal amount of content similar in quantity, as the initial dlc Fall of Kanak (FoK). With the addition of the two wounded allies and turrets fixed in position, the gameplay dynamic was different enough. The tactical play experienced was a notch more enjoyable that FoK. Mainly due to the extra challenge posed by larger waves of enemies, their spawn frequency, health pools and damage out. It was actually quite fun to try and keep both marines alive and both turrets working for as long as possible. The tactical pick-ups; weapons and boosters possessed enough differences with those in the FoK dlc to stand out. However the difficulty proved brutal. Especially when the special enemy appeared. But then player's will have the special weapons of their own to let loose against these and the never-ending waves of enemies. Generally speaking the combat was fine even if some waves were brutally short. Others seemed to drag on when the tactics were nailed on. Due to the amount and frequency of pick-ups being spawned a significant element of gameplay could see the character running from one item to another. Especially given the enemy's preference to precluding the player from getting these. A couple of additional nice touches where the time limited challenges to kill special enemies with in a short number of turns. Plus the randomisation of turrets spawning meant that strategies would need to be altered on every replay. Even if it is just one map, with continous waves of enemies attacking your only character. No allies make an appearance here. Of the two legendary cards to augment your deck, neither is required for achievements. The heavy bolter card is fine for the terminator build but can be overlooked for a lesser model or bypassed for other comparable weapons. The turret cards on the other hand were a really nice addition to the core game card pool. Adding another dimension to the tactical options available in combat. Though I played this content when it was previously a free to play event. I did not complete all the achievements and bought it on a decent discount. Since it is unlikely to ever return in such a format, player's searching to gain the nine or so achievements will need to purchase this dlc. If they want to attain 100% completion.
VERDICT:
WotD like its predecessor was certainly a middle of the road dlc. The content was okay and the gameplay pretty good. Better than FoK. However it did get repetitve as quickly as that dlc. Given that it is unlikely to ever be released as a free event again, it is worth getting purely for the 100% completion. Though those interested should wait to see how far through the main campaign they make it. For it doesn't anything but a few extra cards classes to collect. It is worth getting purely for the distraction of the extra content. On a decent discount. If you intend to get all dlc content for this game then consider getting this as part of a complete bundle. It will be cheaper. I certainly recommend it.
Thank you for reading. | Follow my curator here.
On a sale discount, there's no excuse not to get this DLC as it does add a great Arena mode to the game. This is a pleasant diversion from the Campaign and gives you, the player a chance at trying different tactics and card combos to compete against waves of very smart and strategic bots. With new Heroes to play with, and more cards to add to the main Campaign game that you will not get anywhere else, this is simply a must to complete this fantastic mobile ported PC game.

If you only buy one DLC for Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf, buy this one. This scenario appeared temporarily during a special event in mid-2018. It is extremely replayable, extremely rewarding each time you complete it fully (5 decks + cards + around 7000 to 9000 parts for cards) and DAMNED good fun. :D GAMEPLAY Defend your ♥BELOVED TURRETS♥ (Omnissiah be praised) and Corus & Egil from waves of Chaos goons and 3 bosses. It's consistently a challenge if you want to achieve all the bonus objectives, but very doable with a little luck and some smart strategy. You control Regulus Tenax and up to 2 other Damned Legionaires as instruments of the Emperor's wrath, being able to summon and resummon them once you have picked up the Pale Blue & Cyan (Darker BlueyGreen) pickups. Speaking of pickups, AVOID the Yellow pickup like Yellow Snow. The Red pickup allows an area of effect missile strike, Green allows an area of effect heal (good for keeping those turrets alive), Cyan adds Ferox (Melee Legionaire) and Pale Blue adds Tacitus (Ranged Legionaire) to Regulus' scenario deck. This means you only need pick these up once each game, although you can pick them up more than that so each card appears more frequently. Additionally the Scenario has weapon pickups that also rotate through your deck, perfect for teaching a lesson to the Chaos goons being mean to your turrets. And they can be great for taking down the bosses quicker if used against their weaknesses. The bosses are also strong versus certain attacks. The scenario takes around 40-60 minutes to complete depending on how fast you play. And if you're struggling look for help on the forums. REWARDS How essential the cards that can be earned by completing the scenario is a matter of your playstyle, but more cards are always welcome. As mentioned at the beginning, completing the scenario awards a lot of cards and card parts. IN SUMMARY If playing as a not quite alive, not quite dead dude that's ON FIRE appeals to you then I can highly recommend this. Very replayable, fun and rewarding, even after multiple playthroughs. Edit: A note on the colour the 2 Blue of the pickups. If the Blue is lighter than your Turrets, it's the ranged guy, if it's a darker blue it's the melee guy. I still get confused by this myself even after 70 odd playthroughs. :D And at the time of writing there is a bug with the Heavy Flamer weapon which is easily fixed, see my comment below.
If you want to grab the main game before it is removed from Steam, take this DLC with it!
This DLC is one arena setup added to the main game. It is absolutely worth it as the gameplay is fun, but even more by the loot it provides you with. Do not forget that the main game is a card game. You need equipment, action and movements cards in order to play . This DLC will provide high quality cards more often then not, which will allow you to get better equipment and other needed cards. It is sold at a hefty discount because the main game is being pulled out of Steam in a few days. If you want to buy the game, buy this DLC with it!.
