Looks Like A Masterpiece, Plays Like A Mood Swing.(6/10) Ori and the Blind Forest is a stunning game. The visuals are jaw-dropping, like walking through a living painting. The art team deserves a raise, a trophy, and maybe even a pizza. But once you stop admiring the scenery and actually play the game, things get a little bumpy. For a platformer, the movement just isn’t as tight or responsive as it should be. It feels floaty in the wrong places and sticky in others. Ori controls like he’s wearing fuzzy socks on a waxed floor. On the bright side, the bash ability is genuinely awesome and super creative. It's easily one of the coolest traversal mechanics I’ve used in a game like this. Combat is pretty weak. It’s like waving a flashlight at enemies until they disappear. There’s barely any feedback or satisfaction. I wouldn’t even call it combat, really. The chase sequences are meant to be the big highlight, but honestly, they were frustrating. One mistake and you're restarting the whole thing. It’s less of an adrenaline rush and more of a repetitive obstacle course. The game calls itself a Metroidvania, but it's very linear. You do get new abilities, but exploration is limited and backtracking feels more optional than rewarding. It's more of a guided tour through a pretty forest than a true interconnected world. The story is decent, the ending was okay, but the gameplay didn’t leave a strong impact. TLDR: Beautiful art, unique bash mechanic, but clunky movement, weak combat, and shallow exploration hold it back. Worth a look for the visuals, just don’t expect a top-tier platformer experience.

DO NOT PLAY DEFINITIVE EDITION. Spent a couple hours being frustrated and underwhelmed by the movement and controls thinking it was an artistic choice, turns out the definitive edition just runs poorly. The original, on the other hand, is rock solid. If the definitive edition is the better deal fine but only install the original.

Be warned, there's an unpatched lagging issue on PC that completely breaks the game at seemingly arbitrary points. apparently there is a fix if you reinstall the drivers/ game, but for a game that has been released for nearly a decade now its inexcusable.

One of the best platforms I ever played in my life honestly. The Art is most definitely the selling point. Only thing I found annoying was not being able to save in dangerous areas. Also having to restart the entire escape if you died.

I played up until the first major escape sequence using a keyboard, and while the early sections were manageable, that moment marked a serious spike in difficulty. It quickly became frustrating, so I switched to a controller—and while that smoothed out some of the tighter platforming, the game still demanded precision and quick reflexes. The challenge is no joke. The level design stands out with that familiar yet satisfying Metroidvania structure. Areas open up gradually as you unlock new abilities, and backtracking never feels like a chore thanks to how seamlessly the world is interconnected. Each ability genuinely changes how you move through the environment, and the enemy placements are smartly done—never overwhelming, but always pushing you to stay sharp. Visually, it's a stunner. Every frame feels hand-painted, with vibrant lighting and ethereal effects that perfectly complement the emotional beats of the story. Speaking of which, the narrative is pretty straightforward, but told with such care and atmosphere that it hits hard. The wordless storytelling, combined with that gorgeous score, really elevates the experience. I died a lot. But I never felt like the game was unfair—just that I had to learn and adapt. When I finally cleared a tough section, especially those escape sequences, it felt genuinely earned. The characters, despite minimal dialogue, leave a lasting impression. The combat is simple compared to other action-platformers, but it's fast and responsive, and later upgrades add just enough depth to keep things interesting. Overall, Ori and the Blind Forest is a challenging, visually stunning, and emotionally resonant experience. I’m excited to see how the sequel builds on this one.

Phenomenal Game. Once you start, you just can't let it go. A bit on the shorter side in terms of length but amazing game nonetheless especially since on sale it's dirt cheap. Recommended for sure.

All the critters are very cute. The graphics, music and storyline are all incredibly interesting and beautiful. I really liked the game and combat mechanics too! I got the game on sale, and it's very worth the price imo.

Really cute story, and incredibly addicting gameplay. A world that is so incredibly easy to get wrapped up in, and probably the best executed chase sequences I've seen in a game.

to start it off this is my first story mode game which I completed. I played games like valorant, CS, pubg but I've always wanted to give try to story mode games and I'm glad it was ori and the blind forest as my first game. the moment I've start this game in under first 10 minutes the music and art of the game captured my heart. it was really fun story and gave a important life lesson. DON'T JUDGE and then the skills figure out what to do next and platform destruction it was all super fun. 10/10 recommended. I always didn't give fair chance to these type of games and was just in bubble of FPS games but trust me give them fair chance and it will be a good experience.

So much love for this game. Super solid metroidvania, but the things that stand out most are its emotional and beloved story, told through more actions and stills than words. It wrenches on your heart with just a few great scenes. The platforming and combat are truly wonderful, and the challenges are really great. There are some flaws that hold the game back from a 9 or 10 score: mainly being some annoying enemies that *seem* unfair at times, and some bugs/glitches that require outside the box thinking and an ability only in the DE game to get around. All in all a super solid 8/10 with a whole heart recommendation to play!! AND the music is REALLY good :)

I came to this game looking for an experience like hollow knight, and I did not find it, I found an experience much different, yet more fun because the game isn't all about combat as most games I play, the storytelling was amazing and the platforming was great, this is what a metroidvania should be

I've been playing for a few hours now, but it's safe to say this game is brilliant. For me it is a lot like Child of Light and Trine collided together to create an exhilirating new universe. Soundrack - ★★★★★ The soundrack takes it on a whole new level. It really projects the magic of this world through sound. Story - ★★★★★ Try not to cry! Graphics - ★★★★★ Make a brilliant atmopshere and overall are absolutely stunning. Gameplay - ★★★★★ Very enjoyable overall, doesn't get boring. Fights - ★★★★ Can get slightly annoying, but as you progress through the game it gets way better. Overall: ★★★★★ Five stars it is brilliant, gorgeous and visually pleasing.

I adored this game from start to finish. Although I have severe ADHD, the mechanics along with the story and the well balanced mixture of platforming, puzzles and combat kept my attention even before I started taking my medication. The visuals and the music are stunning as well – worth playing just for that, imo. I am currently finishing the second game, which is just as spellbinding.

Ori is great. The story itself is basic, but the game doesn’t need a great story. The gameplay and mechanics are fantastic. Beautiful game. The amount of gameplay options and exploration is done to perfection. Looking forward to playing the sequel.

Ori and the Blind Forest, which is basically emotional manipulation disguised as a platformer - and bloody hell, it works. The thing is absolutely gorgeous, like someone took a Disney film and crossbred it with liquid poetry. I binged it for 3-4 hours straight because I couldn't stop staring at the damn thing, every frame looking like it should be hanging in the Louvre next to the Mona Lisa's prettier sister. Then it decided to actually become challenging, at which point I hit a wall harder than a drunk driver hitting a tree. Two months later, I'm still stuck on whatever sadistic puzzle the developers cooked up while presumably laughing at my suffering. Had to shelve the bastard before it consumed what's left of my sanity. Here's the kicker: I don't even like Metroidvanias. But Ori's visual splendor is so overwhelming it tricked me into thinking I might actually enjoy backtracking through the same pretty forest for the thousandth bloody time. Still reckon it's worth playing through though, because sometimes a game can be so achingly beautiful you'll forgive it for being harder than explaining TikTok to your gran.

At first I did not think I would like this game, but it was on sale so I thought I would give it a try. I have to say, it is a brilliant game. The level design, art work and character movement is really something special. If you like metroid style games, or just platformers in general then I can recommend this game. It is tough as balls in some places , but is rewarding if you have the patients to stick at it.

I've played the game for about 3 hours so far and the experience has been very pleasant and enjoyable. The only complaint I have is that sometimes the checkpoint feature (I'm playing on easy mode) can get you stuck somewhere and you need to reboot it to work around. Other than that, great game!

I actually completed this game months after I have have completed Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Weirdly enough, I thought this game was better designed than its sequel, in its 'auto scroll' boss fights, story and even platforming.

this game is REALLY good, the art, music and atmosphere is majestic. that being said, i personally DON'T really recommend it to just anyone. i would say if you're into platformers already, give it a shot!! if you're thinking of getting the second game, also give it a shot!! but if you're like me who barely ever touch this kind of games, get ready for five the cycle of playing it for five minutes before giving up because you're stuck in a death loop. this game is NOT easy alongside that, there's also game's control. it's really convoluted for some reason, and the default binding left my hand hurting. would recommend using a rebind mod if there's any, but i managed to finish it w/o one, so it's definitely playable, just... not great on top of this, the chase sequence... there are some obligatory chase sequences to have to do in order to progress. the first time i encounter them, it always gives me goosebumps... and then i died, so i had to try again. and again. and again. by the time i finish them, i don't feel fulfilled, i simply feel relieved that i don't have to do that again. imo they're too hard for their own good there's also combat... it's pretty nonexistent. i read that people think it's too simplistic, but personally, i feel like the problem is the fact that they made the enemies' attacks hard to read. on top of this, ori is a very sparkly baby, so most of the time i just spam attack and pray for the best all in all, i think i still enjoyed the game, especially towards the end when i explored the bonus area (i didn't know this, so i only explored it after finding pretty much everything else). if you don't mind the flaws, please do give it a shot because the game is just absolutely gorgeous

Yet another masterpiece. I played the WOTW first, Better platforming in this part. Story that make you cry, sad and then happy. At the end when you unlock many of the abilities the traversal just becomes a lot fun. I recommend people to play it and play it first. ** Spoiler ** I didn't find this one that difficult, reason might be that I completed the ori and the will of the wisp first and man that sandworm chase was soo difficult.

I really liked it. I would describe it as a atmospheric movement-focused platformer. The enemies are not really designed for combat, but as dynamic obstacles. Reading the negative comments, I see their points, and agree with most, but those were not even close to a dealbreaker for me.

One of the best games I've played all time. The music, graphics and storyline all perfectly executed and I even teared up a bit. Coming back to this game after so many years and honestly enjoyed it even more the 2nd time. I played it on difficulty mode. I really enjoyed the soundtrack the most because I felt it painted the image on emotion for every part of the game.

This game is might have the metroidvania tag, but as a metroivania it is *really* weak. If you go in with the expectation that this is a great mv you will be disappointed. This is a movement focused 2D platformer before anything else. Combat is weak, backtracking is weak, exploration and nonlinearity all weak even though those are generally staples in what a great mv should have. That being said, this game's movement is phenomenal. It has a great sense of weight and momentum, though some people are more accustomed to snappy movement that allows you to move at full speed and swap directions mid air near instantly might feel like the game is floaty, or slippery. It's cause you gotta shift your momentum and it takes a moment to do so. I will say this is only for aerial movement, grounded running feels snappy and there is no skidding, or long turnaround animation. The way this game is structured is for you to move. Enemies and their attack are nothing more than a vessel to propel your movement though an area, they aren't really meant for you to kill all of them on screen. I cannot express how much I love the movement in this game. If you love schmoving and grooving this a game for you. If you like getting lost in a world and fighting difficult enemies, then this won't be it. If you want more of a typical mv experience you'd probably have to learn some speed run strats, or even play a randomizer. Once you learn how to sequence break the game it feels much more open.

If I could describe Ori and the blind forest in one word it would be beautiful. From the amazing art style that felt like a moving painting, the peaceful music that made me feel like the forest alive, and the simple but beautiful story this game told. I'm someone who loves Metroidvania game play and amazing complex stories this game was a breath of fresh air I didn't realize I needed. Especially in the story because how this game presents its narrative is pretty straightforward and it's all laid out for you and normally I play games where you have to dig deeper to find everything example being Metroid. But this game that such a simple but effective story which has made me come to realize not every story has to be like that to be effective nor amazing. The game play was also mechanically not super complex but the level design ans everything working together lead to amazing puzzle design and difficulty that was challenging but fair. I highly recommend this game to anyone who likes Metroidvania's wants to get into them or just wants a heartwarming story told with stunning art direction or really anyone who wants an amazing experience for an amazing price.

I would recommend this game for someone starting out the metroidvania genre beacuase it's not very hard(it lets you choose the difficulty) and teaches you the general metroidvania stuff, although the parkour can be a bit tricky. Good sides for me are: music, graphics, character animations, cutscenes, alot of diffrent parkour types and the movement is really fluid Bad bad are that battle is really repetitive and it doesn't have variety, the story is a bit too simple which i kinda didn't like. I give it like an 8.5/10
